Indian star Shubman Gill had a memorable outing on Monday when the Men in Blue took on Zimbabwe in the third and final ODI in Harare. Shubman smashed his maiden century in the 50-over format, ??scoring 130 off 97 balls, including 15 fours and a six, to h??elp the tourists reach 289/8.

Gill not only impressed one and all with the bat, but he also gathered attention with a stunning catch that ended Zimbabwe’s centurion Sikandar Raza‘s astonishing innings, who was looking well-set to take the hosts over the finish line.

While defending 289/8, the visitors looked set for victory after reducing Zimbabwe to 122/5. However, Zimbabwe’s in-form batter Raza had some other plans. He stitched a 104-run partnership with Brad Evans and scored 1?15 ??from 95 deliveries, bringing Zimbabwe back in contention.

But during the penultimate over of Zimbabwe’s chase, Raza, in an attempt to go the full monty, swung a short of length slower ball over long-on. Though, the right-handed batter didn’t get the required elevation. Meanwhile, Gill swooped in from long on and timed his forward jump to perfection to take an absolute screamer inches above the ground.

Here is the video:

“I was just trying to minimise my dot ball percentage. I tried to hit the gaps as much as possible. When I went in, there were a couple of bowlers bowling good. It was crucial to get through that. Once we were settled, we knew we could attack. The bat was pretty good. That’s why I changed it after my 50, I wanted to save it. Definitely special (on hitting his maiden international ton). (Playing in this team) It feels great, great bunch of players. Feels good when you are with the same bunch,” said Gill after the match.

Indian batting sensation Shubman Gill continued his golden touch with the bat in the third and final ODI of the ongoing three-match series against Zimbabwe, hitting his maiden ??century in the 50-over format.

Gill reached the milestone in the 44th over of Indiaโ€™s innings when he took a single on the very first ball bowled by Victor Nyauchi. After taking the single, the right-handed batter removed the helmet and had a big smile on his face as he bowe??d to celebrate. The whole Indian camp applauded and appreciated t?he masterful knock by Gill.

Gill, who came to bat in the 15th over upon his skipper KL Rahulโ€?/strong>s dismissal, stayed unbeaten until the final over when he was removed by Brad Evans for a well-made 130 off 97 deliveries, with the help of 16 bo??undaries, including a six.

After winning the first two ODIs against Zimbabwe, Team India will be aiming for a whitewash in the ongoing three-match ODI series. But would there be any changes in the playing XI? Well, India’s 2007 T20 World Cup-winning team member Robin Uthappa has suggested a few changes that KL Rahul should make in the final XI of the Indian team.

Uthappa reckoned that India should make changes to their batting order for the third ODI in Harare and give chances to Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who haven’t got the opportunity in the series yet.

“As far as batting is concerned, I don’t know if they will make too many changes. Shahbaz may get a game, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rahul Tripathi have been waiting in the wings for a while. It will be unfair if they don’t get a game, and it will also be unfair to the youngsters who are playing right now, for example, Shubman Gill, who is in such great form,” said Uthappa while speaking on Sony Sports Network.

Further, Uthappa also observed that Deepak Chahar would be back into the playing XI, and Shardul Thakur shall remain in? the side. He mentioned that Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj might get a break ??as well.

Notably, Shardul didn’t play the series opener but was included in the second ODI and took three wickets as India won? the match by five wickets to clinch the series. Chahar, on the other hand, p??layed in the first? ODI and took three wickets, and was named Player of the Match.

“Definitely, I think Chahar will come back into the frame, I think Avesh Khan will get a game, and Prasidh might get a break. Maybe Siraj could also get a break, Shardul would play, I think. They have anyway decided to rotate the fast bowlers so that everyone remains fresh,” Uthappa added.

India’s new ball weapon Mohammed Siraj is having a good run in the ongoing ODI series against Zimbabwe. The right-armer has bowled with utm??ost discipline, delivering as many as four maidens in the two ODIs so far in Harare.

Siraj has constantly applied the pressure from one end that has helped yield wickets at the other. He finished with figures of 1/16 in eight overs in the second ODI, which the tourists won by five wickets to clinch the three-match series.

In the absence of senior bowlers, Siraj ??has led the pace attack well and revealed that hitting consistent areas has be??en the key to his success in Zimbabwe and in the recent few outings against England as well as West Indies.

“In West Indies and England also I bowled well, my rhythm was good in the first match as well, so my plan was to hit an area consistently without worrying whether I will get wickets or not,” said Siraj as quoted by ICC.

The Hyderabad pacer mentioned that his main focus was to bowl with the right line and length and at consistent areas because the white leather doesn’t swing as much as the red cherry.

“I just kept belief on myself, because ups and downs are part of everyone’s life, so I just kept belief that I can do it no matter if it is a white ball or red ball. So just wanted to keep hitting the right areas and bowl dot balls to build up pressure on the opposition. Starting with the new ball, I went for wickets a few times, but as you know, the white ball doesn’t swing much, so I was planning to consistently hit one area and bowl maiden overs,” added Siraj.

An all-round performance from Team India helped them defeat Zimbabwe in the second ODI to take the unassailabl?e lead of 2-0 in? the ongoing 3-match series.

Put to bat first, the hosts were bundled out for a mere 161 in 38.1 overs, thanks to disciplined bowling by India, especially Shardul Thakur. The right-armer dom??inated the proceedings and picked up a three-wicket haul for 38 runs in seven overs.

For Zimbabwe, former skipper Sean Williams and all-rounder Ryan Burl fought back to take their side across the 150-run benchmark. While Williams scored 42 runs with the help of ?four boundaries, Burl stayed unbeaten at 39 fro??m 47 deliveries, including three fours and a six.

In response, the tourists gunned down the target in 25.4 overs with five wickets in hand. Captain KL Rahul, who came to open, failed to leave his impact, but Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill made notable contributions at the top.
