India pacer Mohammed Siraj sent Bangladesh batter Litton Das packing with an absolute beauty on Day 3 of?? the second and final Test between t?he two series in Dhaka.

Siraj and Das already had a face-off in the first Test of the two-match series, and the former once again had ??the last laugh. The lower-order Bangladeshi batter looked set to register his maiden Test hundred against India, but Siraj cleaned him up with a delivery th??at pitched on the hard surface and jagged back to hit the off-stump.

After dismissing Das, Siraj celebrated with a finger on his lips and then put his hand behind his e??ars.

Here’s the video:

In the post-match interview, Siraj explained that his celebration was targeted at the Bangladesh team fans who were at his ears after he failed to get No. 9 Taskin Ahmed out.

“The crowd was shouting things that is why I did that. After an LBW appeal against Taskin, I went back to fielding, and the crowd was shouting something. That’s why I did that,” he said.

“There is nothing with Litton Das. It’s a gentleman’s game. Don’t think so much. All a fast bowler needs is a bit of chit chat with the batsman so that his focus shifts and then he says some words. There is no such rivalry. It’s just fun.”

Talking about the match, India successfully chased the 145-??run target after some early jolts on Day 4. All-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer stand tall in between Bangladesh’s dream of recording their maiden victory over India in red-ball cricket.

Meanwhile, with the two-wicket win in Dhaka, India sealed the Test series 2?-0 as they won the first match in Chattogram by 188 runs.

On the fourth day of the second Test against India, Bangladesh spinners – Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz – took three wickets in the first hour, leaving the tourists in a difficult position at 74/7. But Ravichandran Ashwin (42 not out) and Shreyas Iyer (29 not out) worked together to take their side over the finish line. They hit several boundaries in a successful 71-run partnership for the eighth wicket, leading India to victory with a 2-0 series sweep by chasing a target of 145.

With India’s victory, Mehidy’s five-wicket haul went in vain. However, he had a strong outing in both the ODI and Test series against the mighty Indian team. Mehidy Hasan was even named ‘Player of the Series’ in the ODI leg for his all-around performance, and his bowling almost led to India’s defeat in the second Test.

After the conclusion of the Test series, Mehidy Hasan received a signed jersey from Indian superstar Virat Kohli. Mehidy posted about it on his Twitter handle with a caption stating, “Special souvenir from one of the greatest cricketer Virat Kohli.”

Mehidy Hasan sent back Kohli (1) in the second innings on the evening of day 2. Kohli didn’t get the desired outing in the red-ball series and failed to score big. He scored a century in the third and final ODI as India registered a record victory.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh skipper Shakib acknowledged that both teams played good cricket and entertained the fans. The ace all-rounder also lauded Iyer and Ashwin for handling the pressure wel??l in the fourth innings of the game.

During the post-match presentation, Shakib said: “We always know we have a chance in Mirpur. We’ve been playing really well at this venue. Very good Test cricket, that’s what the crowd loves. Credit should go to Shreyas and Ashwin, they absorbed the pressure. We couldn’t bowl in partnerships at that point of time.”

He added: “We needed maybe one more wicket and they had two other tail-enders. Lots of ifs and buts but I’m happy with the way we fought. The attitude of the boys has been impressive. We hope to improve and hopefully next year will give us better results.”

Ravichandran Ashwin (42 not out) and Shreyas Iyer (29 not out) added an unbeaten 71-run partnership for the eighth wicket that helped India register a thrilling victory against Bangladesh in the second and final ?Test match of the series.

India resumed Day 4 on 45/4, needing 100 more runs to win in Dhaka and a series sweep (2-0). Early in the day, Bangladesh skipper and left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan trapped Jaydev Unadkat in front, sending the Indian batter back to pavilion for 13. Wickets continued to fall as the touring part lost two more wickets – Rishabh Pant (9) and overnight batter Axar Patel (34) – in quick succession. Both Pant and Patel were dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who claimed a five-for in the second innings.

The next two batters – Iyer and Ashwin – batted with caution and just kept rotating the strike before settling in nicely. The duo started batting aggressively only when the required number of runs came under 50. At that stage, it looked like India’s game and it eventually turned out to be one.

The eighth wicket stand was India’s second highest in Test cricket in the fourth innings, and it ensured that India moved up to second pace in the 2021-23 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) table.

India’s next WTC assignment is against Australia, a four-match series at home in Fe??bruary-March 2023.

Team India’s star batter Virat Kohli lost his cool during the se??cond innings of the ongoing ICC ?World Test Championship match against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Saturday.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed Kohli on Day 3 of the second Test, being p??layed at? the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

India’s top three batsmen were dismissed cheaply in their second essay, leaving them at 29-3. Kohli came in to bat at number 5, joining Axar Patel who was promoted to number 4 to counter the Ban?gladesh spin attack.

Kohli struggled at the crease and was eventually got out for 1 off 22 balls by Mehidy Hasan, with Mominul Haque taking a fine catch at short leg. As Kohli walked back to the pavilion, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam said something inappropriate, which made Kohli reac??t ??angrily.

The umpires and Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan intervened to calm the situati??on. After Kohli left the field, Shakib was seen instructing Taijul to control ?his emotions.

In the press conference after the second day’s play, when Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was asked about Patel’s promotion, he said: “It’s management’s call. I think it was because of the left-hand, right-hand combination to try to make things difficult for bowlers.”

When asked about Kohli’s argument with the Bangladeshi player, Siraj replied he was taking an ice bath when the incident happened.

At stumps, India were 45 for the loss? of 4 wickets, and they still need 100 runs to seal the series by 2-0. Mehidy Hasan has bowled brillian??tly in the second innings with his three wickets.

Day 2 of the second Test between Bangladesh and India saw wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant falling short of a deserving century but his counterattacking 93-run knoc??k in Mirpur helped India take a 87-run lead after the first innings.

The 159-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Pant and Shreyas Iyer (87) was the only highlight of the Indian innings as their top-order batters threw wickets away after making good starts. Both Pant and Iyer were heading towards their respective ton when a disciplined spin bowling performance from the home team saw them reap the rewards towards the end. Four-wicket-hauls from skipper Shakib Al Hasan and left-arm spinner Taijul Islam helped Bangladesh in preventing India from taking a huge lead as the KL Rahul-led side got all-out for 314.

In their second innings, the hosts did well to finish the day without ?losing any wickets in a six-ball period. They will now be looking to continue their resistance on Day 3.

Here is the video of Rishabh Pant’s 93-run knock:

Brief scores: Bangladesh 227?? & 7-0, trail Indi??a 314 (Rishabh Pant 93, Shreyas Iyer 87; Taijul Islam 4/75, Shakib al Hasan 4/79) by 80 runs.

Team India bowlers had a memorable outing on the opening day of the second Test against Bangladesh at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. The pace and spin combination of Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin destroy??ed the? Bangladesh batting unit as the hosts got bundled out for 227 in 73.5 overs.

Umesh made full use of the conditions and returned with a sensational four-wicket haul, dismissing the likes of Shakib Al Hasan (16), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (15), Nurul Hasan (6) and Taskin Ahmed (1). The right-arm pacer had a phenomenal economy rate as he just conceded 25 runs from 15?? overs, including 4 maidens.

Similarly, Ashwin also picked up four scalps, including the prized wicket of Mominul Haque, who went on to smash a brilliant knock of 84 runs. Ashwin bagged four wickets wh??ile giving away 71 runs from 21.5 overs, including 3 maidens.

Apart from the duo, Jaydev Unadkat, who is making a comeback in the Test side after 12 years, took two wickets. After packing the home team for 227, India have managed to reach 19 without a loss at stumps with captain KL Rahul (3 not out) and Shubman Gill (14 not out) at the crease.

“The start is good for the pacers early on. Some balls are kicking off, and some are seaming. I just looked to hit the right areas. When Ashwin started, we thought it would turn. But it didn’t, the pace isn’t there for the spinners to turn. The dry grass has made the surface spongy. We were trying to reverse and bowled wicket to wicket. Happy to have gotten it,” said Umesh after the end of the day’s play.

After 12 years, six days and 179 deliveries, Jaydev Unadkat finally got his maiden wicket in Test cricket. The left-armer had gone wicketless on his Test debut way back in December 2010 against South Africa in Centurion. After that, Unadkat is playing his second Test, which began today against Bangladesh in Mirpur.

Notably, it is the longest wait between two Test matches by an Indian in terms of years and Test matches missed and the second-longest in the world after England’s Gareth Batty. Unadkat missed 118 Tests between December 2??010 and December 2022. But his wait paid off well as he bowled an absolute beauty to get rid of Bangladesh opener Zakir Hasan.

It all happened on the fifth ball of the 15th over when Unadkat, who replaced Kuldeep Yadav in the India XI for the second Test, delivered a short-of-length ball that had some extra bounce. Zakir was cramped for room, and the ball lobbed up towards the fourth slip off his glove before Indian skipper KL Rahul took a simple catch.

Here is the video:

Most consecutive Tests missed between appearances:

142 โ€?Gareth Batty (2005-16)
118 โ€?Jaydev Unadkat (2010-22)*
114 โ€?Martin Bicknell (1993-03)
109 โ€?Floyd Reiffer (1999-09)
104 โ€?Younis Ahmed (1969-87)
103 โ€?Derek Shackleton (1951-63)

Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. While the Bangladesh skipper was certain about the conditions, Indian skipper Rahul said he wasn’t sure about how the surface would perform.

“We’d have done the same. To be honest, on seeing the surface, not sure what to make of it. There is some grass that you can see, but it’s generally good to bat here. There is generally some bounce here and some help for both pacers and spinners. We’d have wanted to bat first, but we aren’t sure what to expect,” said Rahul.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Tuesday, announced their men’s updated squad for the upcoming second Test and final Test against Bangladesh.

Regular captain Rohit Sharma and fast bowler Navdeep Saini, who were part of the initial squad, have been ruled out due to their respective inj??uries. Roh??it suffered an injury in his left thumb during the second ODI of the three-match leg in Dhaka.

“Rohit Sharma is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team following his left thumb injury, which he sustained during the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka. The Medical Team is of the opinion that the injury needs some more time to heal completely before the Indian captain can bat and field with full intensity. He will continue his rehab and will not be available for the second and final Test against Bangladesh,” BCCI said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Sai??n?i will miss the last game of the tour after sustaining an abdominal muscle strain. The right-arm pacer will soon report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for further management of his injury.

Stand-in-skipper KL Rahul now has two fast bowling options, Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat, to choose from in case his team needs a third seamer in the second Test, scheduled to be played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka fr??om December 22 onwards.

India’s revised squad for the second Test against Bangladesh:

KL Rahul (c), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara (vc), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Akshar Patel, Kuldeep ?Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Saurabh Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat.

Team Indiaโ€™s regular skipper Rohit Sharma would be unavailable for the upcoming second and f?inal Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh, scheduled to get under??way in Dhaka on December 22.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, Rohit, who missed the opening Test in Chattogram due to a thumb injury, will not travel to Dhaka for the second Test. In his absence, vice-captain KL Rahul, who led the team in the first Test, will continue to lead the tourists in the ??second game.

According to the ??report, Rohit, who injured his left thumb while fielding in slips during the second ODI against Bangladesh on December 7, has not fully recovered. Rohit is still suffering from stiffness and considering Indiaโ€™s upcoming projects, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the selectors, along with the team management,?? have decided not to take any risk with the Mumbaikar.

The report further stated that the medical team has given a green flag to Rohit regarding batting in the second Test, but there is a risk involved while fielding as if t?he skipper hurt his thumb again; it could be a serious one, therefore, the medical team and the team management decided to continue giving rest to Rohit.

Notably, Team India won the first Test by a massive margi??n of 188 runs, with Shubman Gill smashing his maiden Test hundred while senior batter Cheteshwar Pujara also returned to form and hitting his 19th ton in the longest format. Rohitโ€™s unavailability could give another opportunity to Shubman, who mightโ€™ve missed his place if Rohit had been fit despite scoring?? a ton.

The Indian team travelled to Dhaka from Chattogram on Monday, where they are supposed to practice over the next two days before the start of the final Test on Thursday (December 22). The win in the upcoming game will further boost Indiaโ€™s chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
