Indian pacer Shardul Thakur recently shared an in-depth account of the Indian Cricket team’s experiences during their historic win at Gabba in Brisbane, marking the final test of the India Tour of Australia 2020-2021. Thakur’s revelations shed light on the adversities faced by the team, both on and off the field.

Shardul Thakur reveals Indian team challenges

During an interactive session, a fan asked about the emotions following the monumental victory at Gabba. Shardul responded candidly, highlighting the numerous challenges the team endured, “The way they treated us was very horrible for four or five days. There was no room service in the hotel. If you wanted to change the bedsheet, you had to walk up four or five floors to get it yourself, even when you were tired.

Shardul also discussed the Queensland governor’s comments expressing reluctance to host the Indian team, adding pressure with negative remarks, “Going from Sydney to Brisbane, we heard the lady governor of Queensland saying that if Indians do not want to come, well, do not come. We do not want to host them, or we are not happily hosting them. There were a lot of negative things said about us that put us under pressure.”

Shardul accused Tim Paine of lying, claiming he falsely portrayed that no pressure had been applied and that they had met all demands, “I heard an interview from Tim Paine. That man was absolutely lying because he was saving himself by making up things in the media, covering up that they did not put any pressure on the Indian team and that they gave us whatever we wanted.”

Injuries and problems faced by the Indian cricket team

Shardul further elaborated that Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli had left and frequently clashed with the Cricket Board of Australia for necessary support, “Our coach, Ravi Shastri, and Virat Kohli had left. Ajinkya Rahane was leading. They both were regularly fighting with the Cricket Board of Australia to get the things we needed.”

In the end Shardul said that the tour was challenging with multiple injuries, including Navdeep Saini and Natarajan. In the final innings, Mohammed Siraj and I bowled nine overs each and ignored the Australians post-victory, “It was difficult the whole tour. Injuries kept happening. Even in the last game, Navdeep Saini got injured, Natrajan also got injured, and in the second innings, Siraj and I bowled nine overs each. For the first time ever, we didn’t even look at the Australians after winning. We said, ‘go and sit back in your dressing room.”

Despite the numerous obstacles, the Indian Cricket team emerged victorious, clinching the series 2-1. The win at Gabba, in particular, has been etched in history as a testament to the team’s resilience, determination, and indomitable spirit.

Indian cricket players Shardul Thakur and T Natarajan recently received their respective new Mahindra Thar SUVs. The ultimate vehicle was gifted to them by Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra ?the Indian multinational automotive manufacturing company.

Mr Anand provided the off-roader to Indian cricketers as a goodwill gesture for their incredible performance in the memorable India-Australia Test series, held earlier this year down under. The Ajinkya Rahane-led team had breached the Gabba fortress and won the four-match series by 2-1.

After the series victory, Mr Anand had announced on his Twitter handle that he would gift the Thar SUV to six young Indian cricketers. Apart from Natarajan and Thakur, the other players that will receive the valuable gift are Mohammad Siraj, Washington Sundar, Shubman Gill and Navdeep Saini.

“Six young men made their debuts in the recent historic series #INDvAUS (Shardul’s 1 earlier appearance was short-lived due to injury. They’ve made it possible for future generations of youth in India to dream & Explore the Impossible,” Mr Anand had written in a series of tweets on January 23.

Receiving the SUV, both the players took to their official Twitter handle and thanked Mr Anand for the wonderful gift. Shardul, who picked up seven wickets from one Test, wrote: “New Mahindra Thar has arrived!! @MahindraRise has built an absolute beast & I’m so happy to drive this SUV. A gesture that the youth of our nation will look up to. Thank you once again, Shri @anandmahindra Ji, @pakwakankar Ji, for recognising our contribution on the tour of Australia.”

Similarly, Natarajan, who bagged three wickets from one Test, expressed his gratitude towards Mr Anand, thanking him for the appreciation.

“Playing cricket for India is the biggest privilege of my life. My #Rise has been on an unusual path. Along the way, the love and affection I have received has overwhelmed me. The support and encouragement from wonderful people help me find ways to #ExploreTheImpossible,” wrote Natarajan.

“As I drive the beautiful @Mahindra_Thar home today, I feel immense gratitude towards Shri @anandmahindra for recognising my journey & for his appreciation. I trust, sir, that given your love for cricket, you will find this signed shirt of mine from the #Gabba Test meaningful,” added Natarajan.

Team India recently had a remarkable tour of Australia where they fought against all the odds to stand tall on the required occasions. The 2-1 victory in the Test series was even more special as the game-changers turned out to be the players who had least international experience. And one such name among them was T. Natarajan.

The 29-year-old left arm-pacer from Tamil Nadu made his international debut across all three formats during the same tour. After his debuts in the ODI and T20I series, Natarajan made his Test debut in the series decider against the Aussies at the Gabba.

India went on to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in a dramatic fashion, winning the fourth and final Test in Brisbane by 3 wickets. Natarajan received widespread praise from fans and experts of the game for his performance.

Sharing his opinion on Natarajan, the Australian superstar David Warner said, “First thing I’d like to say is Vazhthukal (greetings) Nattu, you’re an absolute legend. I’ve got so much time for you, you’re a great person on and off the field and I love having you in our team. Cheers!”

Natarajan and his wife became parents of a baby girl towards the business end of IPL 2020 in UAE, however, instead of returning back to India, the SRH seamer decided to stay back with the Indian contingent for Australia tour. Speaking about the same, Warner lauded Nattu for his grit and dedication.

“What a talent he is, we’ve just seen a guy who played unbelievably well in the IPL 2020, going on tour with the Indian team as a net bowler while sacrificing being there for the birth of his first child and then making his debut in all forms?what a magnificent achievement.

“The way we used him ?outside the powerplay, maybe an over in the powerplay and bowling alongside Rashid Khan in partnership worked very well. I think he bowled 80 yorkers in the tournament which is an exceptional display of death bowling whenever he did come on. I’m extremely excited to see what he brings to the table this year,” Warner added on the YouTube channel of ‘Sports Today’.

While growing up, right-handed batsman Shubman Gill dreamed of playing for his country. Hailing from Chak Khehrewala, a small village in Ferozepur district of Punjab, a young Shubman used to be glued to the television set to watch Sachin Tendulkar bat and idolise his style.

Back in those days, not many would have thought that Shubman will actually live his dream of playing for India.

He made his ODI debut against New Zealand in January 2019 but had to wait a little longer for making into the Test side. And when the opportunity arrived in the series against Australia, Gill proved his worth, amassing 265 in three Tests at 51.80 including two fifties. Even though the 21-year-old could not convert his good starts into big scores in the first couple of innings, his 91 in the second innings at the Gabba guided India to a series win over Australia.

Shubman Gill credits Yuvraj Singh for his success

Just a few months ago before IPL 2020, Gill had long sessions with former India international Yuvraj Singh and a few other young cricketers. Those sessions helped Shubamn in tackling short balls from the Aussie pacers.

“The camp with Yuvi paaji before the IPL was very useful. During that camp, he prepared me to face the chin music. He used to throw hundreds of short-pitch balls to me from different angles, and I think it helped me a lot,” Gill was quoted as saying by TOI.

On missing out on his maiden Test hundred, being caught in the slip for 91 during the fourth and final Test in Brisbane, Gill stated, “I am relaxed now. Making my debut for India is a big relief. I was a bit nervous. A century could have been cherry on the cake. I was well set and I should have scored the century, but at the same time, I am happy that I have contributed to the team’s victory. This series was a big learning curve for me and I have become a better cricketer.”

He further opined, “The next goal is to score consistently at this level. England series will be crucial for me because now I will not be an unknown entity. Facing the likes of James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Jofra Archer will be challenging but I am up for it. I was craving for homemade food. For the next couple of days, I just want to be home and eat my favourite dishes.”

India scripted history after they defeated Australia in the fourth Test at The Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday.

It was the first time Australia lost a Test at the Gabba since 1988. Despite being suffered from several injuries, the young Indian squad did the unthinkable and retained the prestigious Border Gavaskar Trophy.

India’s head coach Ravi Shastri delivered a stirring speech in the dressing room after the famous victory, tagging some of the key performers from the Gabba Test and the whole series.

In a video shared by the official Twitter handle of BCCI, Shastri can be heard appreciating the team for the resilience and top-class spirit they showed to bounce back from the Adelaide disaster and defeat the Aussies in their fortress.

“It doesn’t come overnight, but now that you have this self-belief, you can see where you have taken a game as a team. Today forget India, the whole world will stand up and salute you,” said Shastri.

The India head coach lavished praises on Shubman Gill for his outstanding 91. He hailed Cheteshwar Pujara ?who copped as many as 14 blows on his body in the entire series ?as “the ultimate warrior”.

Shastri referred Rishabh Pant as “simply outstanding”, and said he gives heart attacks to so many people while batting.

The former India international also praised debutants Washington Sundar and T Natarajan, along with Shardul Thakur, stating that Thakur and Sundar’s unbelievable 123-run partnership in India’s first innings “broke Australia’s back”.

Lastly, Shastri lauded India’s stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane, stating that his leadership was the reason India bounced back in the series and wrote the history.

Here is the video:

India have now won two back-to-back red-ball series in Australia. The memorable victory also saw India go to the top of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) table. So far, India have played 13 matches under WTC category and won nine of them. They have lost three games, and one contest met the fate of draw.

From not being featured in the playing XI of the four-match series opener in Adelaide against Australia to becoming the hero of India’s historic triumph in Brisbane, the journey of Rishabh Pant has been tremendous.

On Day 5 of the series decider at the Gabba, Pant smashed an unbeaten 89 to help India successfully chase down 328 runs in their second innings to clinch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1.

Pant slammed nine fours and one six during his match-winning knock and grabbed everyone’s attention. When the Ajinkya Rahane-led side needed 10 runs to win the contest, Pant fell on the ground while scoring a boundary against Josh Hazlewood in the 97th over.

Hazlewood came round the stumps and bowled a short delivery to the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman. Pant shuffled to his left and guided the ball towards fine leg fence for four. However, after connecting the shot, the Delhi-lad lost his balance and fell near the pitch.

One of my biggest days: Pant on the epic win

Resuming from 4/0 on Day 5, India lost Rohit Sharma (7) and Ajinkya Rahane (24) cheaply, but half-centuries from Shubman Gill (91), Cheteshwar Pujara (51), and Pant (89 not out) guided the visitors to record the highest successful chase in the fourth innings of a Test match at The Gabba.

After the victory, Pant received the Player of the Match award and admitted that it was one of his biggest days in life. The left-handed batsman revealed that the Indian team management backs him as a match-winner and he himself wants to go out and win the games for his nation.

“This is one of my biggest days in life. The support the team has given me even when I was not playing has been incredible. It’s a dream come true. We’ve been practising hard after the first Test. The team management always backs me and tells me you are match-winner, and you have to go out there and win, and I am happy I did it today,” said Pant at the post-match presentation.

Indian middle-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has displayed unbelievable courage in countering Australia’s fast bowlers on the final day of the fourth Test at The Gabba in Brisbane.

Pujara has been hit on the body 11 times, including three times on the helmet, as he fought to save the Border-Gavaskar trophy for his nation.

From brutal head knocks to nasty blows on the body and fingers, Pujara stood like a rock against the intimidating Aussie bowlers, who tried every possible strategy to take down India’s number 3 on the final day.

At least thrice the Indian team physio had to rush out to the middle to check on Pujara as he was constantly taking body blows from the Aussie pacers to ensure his end stay safe.

Pujara was seen bravely standing tall against a bouncer barrage from the Aussie pace trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc.

Despite showing visible signs of pain, Pujara continued to defy the Australian bowlers. He eventually stretched his innings beyond four hours before he was finally dismissed for 56 (211 balls) in the last session, trapped lbw by Cummins.

The 32-year-old senior Indian batsman stitched a crucial 61-run partnership (off 141 balls) for the fourth wicket with Rishabh Pant, who later propelled India to historic victory at Gabba.

According to The CricViz Analyst, Pujara was hit on the body or the helmet for 14 times in the entire series, making it a record for body blows received by a batsman in a single series.

After registering the epic triumph, Pujara took to Twitter to post his reaction. He praised the Indian unit for showing the immense character and skill to beat the Aussies in their own backyard.

“Overcome with emotion and filled with pride. The character & skill shown by the entire squad has been commendable. Moments like these make the countless hours of toil and practice truly worth it. Thank you for all the support and wishes. #TeamIndia #InItTogether #AUSvsIND” tweeted Pujara.

Team India scripted a historic win on the final day of Brisbane Test to seal the four-match series 2-1. With 324 runs to win on Day 5, the conversation amongst most circles was about how India will save this match.

However, on Tuesday, the Ajinkya Rahane-led side did the unthinkable and defeated the Aussies in their fortress by three wickets.

After the epic match, reactions poured in from all across the world as social media was flooded with praise for Team India. An interesting response captured everyone’s attention from none other than Ravichandran Ashwin, who missed playing the fourth Test due to an injury.

Ashwin took a jibe at Aussie captain Tim Paine and thanked Australia for ‘playing some hard cricket’. He also went on to add that India as a unit will ‘remember this series forever’.

“Good evening from Gabba!! I am sorry I couldn’t play here but thanks for hosting us and playing some hard cricket during these tough times. We will remember this series forever! @tdpaine36 @CricketAus,” Ashwin tweeted.

Ashwin’s response was in the context of his banter with Paine in the third Test at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). The off-spinner, who displayed amazing grit during that game, was sledged by Paine.

In an attempt to distract Ashwin, Paine was caught on stump mic as saying: “Can’t wait for you to reach Gabba, Ash.”

To this, Ashwin had immediately responded: “Can’t wait for you to come to India as well, that would be your last series.”

After that, the Australian skipper crossed the line and used some derogatory words. Later Paine had to apologise for the language that he has used on the field.

On Tuesday, the Indian team registered history when they came to chase 324 runs on the final day of the fourth Test against Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane.

The heroics of Rishabh Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara led the Ajinkya Rahane and Co. to win the fourth Test by three wickets and seal the Test series 2-1. By doing that, the visitors have also retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

It was the second consecutive time that India won the Test series in Australia after their successful 2018-19 tour.

Shubman Gill made his highest Test score of 91, before falling against Nathan Lyon. The youngster added a crucial 114-run stand with Pujara. Rahane made 22-ball 24 before Pat Cummins got rid of him.

Then Pujara, along with Pant, took charge and formed another vital stand. Pujara battled for 211 balls and scored 56 runs. However, Cummins yet again produced a breakthrough by sending the right-handed batsman back to the pavilion in the 81st over.

On the other hand, Pant kept on scoring boundaries at regular intervals and soon took his side to the epic victory. He remained unbeaten on 89 with 9 fours and 1 six off 138 balls, as India won the match by three wickets. The left-handed batsman was named the Man of the Match as well. Cummins who bagged 4/55 for Australia received the Player of the Series award.
