In the second-last fixture, Asia Lions defeated India Maharajas by a massive margin of 85 runs, with Upul Tharanga and Mohammad Hafeez dominating the proceedings. Batting first, the Lions posted an enormous total of 191/5 in 20 overs. Tharanga top scored with 50 off 31, while Hafeez smashed 38 off 24. Asghar Afghan (34 not out), Tillakaratne Dilshan (27 off 26), and Thisara Perera (24 off 12) also chipped in?? with valuable contributions to the team’s total.

In response, India Legends got bundled out for 106, courtesy of a fine bowling display from Sohail Tanvir (2/25), Abdur Razzak (2/27) and Hafeez (2/21). India skipper Gautam Gambhir was the top scorer for his team. Gambhir smashed 32 off 17 but d?idn’t get enough support as the Maharajas fell 85 runs short of the total.

After the game, Asia Lions skipper Shahid Afridi, who took one wicket in the match, won so many hearts with his warming gesture of signing the Indian flag ??upon request of a fan. In a video shared by the official Twitter handle of Pakistan cricket, a fan can be seen requesting Afridi for an a??utograph on the Indian flag.

The former Pakistan skipper respectfully held t??he India Tricolour and gave an autograph to the fan. The video of the heartening incident became an instant hit among the fans and follower??s of the game as they showered praises on the Pakistan legend for his brilliant gesture.

India Maharajas squared off with Asia Lions in the eliminator of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2023 at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha on Saturday (March 18) and lost the contest by huge 85 runs.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Asia Lions got off to a flying start and scored 191/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Upul Tharanga top-scored for his team and smashed a brilliant 50 off 31 balls comprising seven fours and one six. Mohammad Hafeez (38) and Asghar Afghan (34) also added crucial runs to the Lions’ total.

Meanwhile, Stuart Binny and Pragyan Ojha picked up two wickets each for India. Among the two wickets that Ojha picked also included the dismissal of Tharanga, who was brilliantly caught by Mohammad Kaif inside the third-yard circle.

On the fifth ball of the 9th over, Ojha delivered a short delivery to Tharanga, which the latter tried to hit for a boundary over the leg side. But Kaif diving towards his right, pulled off a one-handed stunner to send the half-centurion back to the pavilion and celebrated the left-hander’s departure in style with other teammates.

Kaif finished with three catches in the match. Apart from Tharanga, the veteran India cricketer also caught Thisara Perera and Hafeez.

Talking about India’s innings, the Indian side failed to chase the set target as they were bundled out by the Asian team for 106 in 16.4 overs. Gautam Gambhir scored a convincing 32 runs but failed to sail his team through, and India eventually failed to reach the League’s summit clash. On the other hand, Hafeez and Sohail Tanvir scalped two wickets each for Asia. Tharanga was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his exceptional batting performance.

The LLC tournament brought together Afridi and Gambhir, who are playing for different teams. During one of the matches, Gambhir was hit on the he??lmet ?by a delivery from Abdul Razzaq. Afridi, captaining the Asia Lions, checked on Gambhir’s well-being, demonstrating a compassionate side that fans had not seen before. The handshake between the two players during the toss also garnered attention on social media.

Despite their newfound cordiality towards each ot??her, Afridi has spoken up about their rivalry.

“We are both ambassadors of our respective countries. If you live in the past, you won’t be able to live. We are enjoying in our present. He is leading his team and is in good form, he is playing beautifully and it’s fun watching him bat. I have spent two to three days with him and it has been amazing,” said the retired Pakistan all-rounder during his recent interview with TV presenter and sports anchor Yashika Gupta.

During the post-match press conference, Raina was asked about his comeback to the Indian Premier League (IPL). He responded to the query by taking a hilarious dig at former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi. Raina stated that unlike Afridi, he is not someone who makes several comebacks after announcing retirement, and that ther?e are n??o chances of him returning to the IPL.

“Main Suresh Raina hoon. Main Shahid Afridi nahi hoon (laughs). Retirement le chuka hoon (I’m Suresh Raina, not Shahid Afridi. I’ve taken retirement),” he said leaving everyone in the room in splits.
