The Under-19 women’s team of India achieved a historic milestone as they managed to enter the finals of the Women’s U-19 World Cup 2025 and move a step closer to clinching the ultimate glory. The Indian team will now face South Africa for an epic final face-off to determine the winner of the coveted competition.

Indian bowlers stormed England

England women won the toss in Bayuemas Oval and elected to bat first. However, their intentions of applying scoreboard pressure in India could not bore fruit as a dominant display from Indian bowlers restricted the flow of runs and paved the way for quick dismissals of England batters. India prevented the English batting line-up from switching gears leading to anxious moments on the pitch.

For India, it was a stellar show by Parunika Sisodia and Vaishnavi Sharma as both bowlers took 3 wickets each to put England on backfoot. Aayushi Shukla further added concerns for the English batters as she sent 2 English batters back to the pavilion including opener Davina Perrin who was also the highest scorer for England with a 45-run knock off 40 balls. Shukla also crucially took the wicket of skipper Abi Norgrove to further dent England’s hopes of making a comeback in the match with the bat.

Indian batters wreaked havoc to enter into the finals

A disciplined effort from Indian bowlers restricted England to 113 runs in their 20 overs. With an achievable target in sight, it was the time for Indian batters to continue the remarkable show with the bat as they hammered down English bowlers left, right and center. Openers Kamalini Gunalan and Gongadi Trisha stormed the English and played some empathic shots to build a partnership of 60 runs. Kamalini, who was the star batter for India, played a power-packed 56-run knock off 50 balls and paved the way for India into a historic final by achieving the target in 15 overs with 9 wickets in hand. The epic face-off against South Africa will be played on February 2.

In a spectacular display of skill and determination, India’s women’s cricket team triumphed over England in the one-off Test match, with Deepti Sharma emerging as the star performer. The historic encounter, held at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, showcased India’s dominance as they outclassed the English side in all departments of the game. It was the biggest win in terms of runs in the history of Women’s Test cricket.

Bowling Brilliance: Deepti Sharma’s spectacular performance

Deepti stole the spotlight with her outstanding bowling performance. The all-rounder exhibited resilience and class as she completely dominated the proceedings with her skillful bowling. Deepti, who took a brilliant 5-wicket haul in the first innings, continued the momentum and bagged four wickets in the second innings.

England’s struggle in front of the mighty target

The relentless pressure applied by the Indian bowlers resulted in regular breakthroughs, restricting England to a modest total. They faced an uphill battle of chasing the mighty target of 479 as their batting lineup failed to withstand the onslaught from the Indian bowlers. The team struggled to build partnerships, and wickets fell at regular intervals and got bundled out for just 131 in their second innings.

Batters dominate English bowlers

Notably, India maintained their overnight score of 186/6 against England, opting to declare and setting a challenging target of 479 runs in Mumbai. The formidable total was achieved by India following an impressive performance in the initial innings of the match and an exceptional bowling display on Day 2.

India amassed 428 runs in the first innings, propelled by noteworthy half-centuries from Shubha Satheesh, Jemimah Rodrigues, Yastika Bhatia, and Deepti. Taking the ball in hand, the Indian bowlers wreaked havoc on the England batsmen, dismissing them for a mere 136 runs.

India clinches the one-off Test

With a commanding lead in both batting and bowling, India asserted their dominance and secured a historic victory in the one-off Test against England by 347 runs. The win showcased the team’s depth and versatility, highlighting their ability to excel in all formats of the game.

In a spectacular display of skill and dominance, India Women continued to assert their authority in the only Test against England Women. After a stellar performance with the bat on the opening day, India showcased their prowess with the ball on the second day of the match, firmly placing themselves in the driver’s seat.

Deepti Sharma’s superb spell

The turning point of the day came from the remarkable performance of India’s spinners, spearheaded by Deepti Sharma. The seasoned bowler delivered a superb spell, claiming a sensational 5-wicket haul for just 7 runs in 5.3 overs. England’s batters struggled to find answers to Deepti’s spin, collapsing in a heap as they lost their last six wickets for a mere 10 runs, concluding their innings at 136.

England’s struggle

Despite Nat Sciver-Brunt‘s valiant effort with a score of 59, England’s batting lineup failed to withstand the pressure imposed by India’s bowling attack. With little support from the rest of the team, England found themselves at the receiving end of India’s aggressive performance.

Harmanpreet Kaur helps India extend lead

In response, India capitalized on their advantageous position, building on their lead with contributions from various players. Charlie Dean‘s four-wicket haul briefly rattled India, reducing them to 136/6. However, a resilient partnership between captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Pooja Vastrakar steered India towards a commanding lead, with Harmanpreet unbeaten at 44 from 67 balls and Vastrakar contributing an unbeaten 17.

The road ahead

As the match progresses, India’s spinners have outperformed their English counterparts, leaving little room for the visitors to stage a comeback. With a formidable lead of 478 runs at stumps on Day 2, India Women are poised for another dominating performance on the third day. Fans eagerly anticipate witnessing the continued brilliance of the Indian bowlers in the one-off Test.

In a dazzling display of skill and determination, India Women asserted their dominance on the day 1 of the one-off Test of England Women tour of India by posting a formidable score of 410/7. This remarkable feat not only showcased the team’s batting prowess but also etched their name in history as only the second team in 88 years to amass over 400 runs in a single day of women’s Test cricket. The monumental total not only underscored India’s commitment to excellence but also set the stage for an enthralling encounter that promises to be a memorable encounter between two formidable teams.

India’s batting domination

Opting to bat after winning the toss, Harmanpreet Kaur‘s decision set the stage for an eventful day for the hosts. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma displayed cautious play in the beginning, but Mandhana fell prey to Lauren Bell for 17 runs. Shafali Verma, after some elegant strokes, departed for 19. Debutants Shubha Satheesh (69) and Jemimah Rodrigues (68) then orchestrated a recovery, frustrating the England bowlers. Satheesh reached her half-century in the first session as India concluded at 136/2.

After lunch, Satheesh, aiming for more aggression, fell to Sophie Ecclestone, followed by Rodrigues, dismissed by a brilliant in-dipper from Bell. Despite this setback, Harmanpreet  and Yastika Bhatia (66) stabilized the innings with a solid 71-run partnership until the second session’s end. Yastika notched up a fifty, and the duo continued in the final session, overcoming the quick dismissals of Harmanpreet and Yastika. Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana (30) then thwarted England’s attempts with a resilient 90+ run partnership for the seventh wicket.

However, Rana’s dismissal by Nat Sciver-Brunt ended India’s day at 410/7, with Deepti unbeaten on 60 and Pooja Vastrakar at the crease.

India, however, is not one to surrender easily. Despite trailing in the series, the home team is determined to salvage pride by clinching a consolation win in front of their passionate fans at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her team will be looking to put on a spirited performance, addressing the shortcomings from the previous matches.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have made an announcement regarding a major update to their squad for the one-off Test against India. England have added a dynamic batter to their outfit following the ruling out of wicketkeeper-batter Emma Lamb.

Emma Lamb’s back injury leads to withdrawal

According to an official report at ECB, England’s preparations for the one-off Test against India have encountered a setback with the withdrawal of Lamb from the squad. The Lancashire cricketer has been forced to return to the UK due to a back issue, and she is set to consult with a spinal surgeon to determine the next course of action.

The new addition to the Test squad

To fill the void left by Lamb, England has included the dynamic batter Maia Bouchier in the Test squad. Bouchier, hailing from Middlesex, is yet to make her Test debut but brings experience from her performances in 3 Women’s One Day Internationals (WODIs) and 22 Women’s T20 Internationals (WT20Is). The Kensington-born cricketer has scored 112 and 205 runs in the respective formats.

English Women A star too joins Test outfit

In another addition to bolster the squad, England has enlisted Kirstie Gordon for the Test series against India. Gordon, who recently represented England Women A in the T20I series against India A, played a crucial role in the visitors securing a 2-1 victory.

“Emma Lamb has been withdrawn from the England Women Test squad to play India due to a back problem. Lamb has returned home to the UK where she will see a spinal surgeon to determine next steps,” read a media release from ECB.

“Maia Bouchier has been called up as a replacement to the Test squad while Kirstie Gordon has also been added to Heather Knight’s Test squad. Gordon represented England Women A in their 2-1 IT20 series victory over India A last week and has remained in Mumbai,” the release added.

England Women Test squad (revised): Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Bell, Maia Bouchier, Alice Capsey, Kate Cross, Charlie Dean, Sophia Dunkley, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Filer, Kirstie Gordon, Bess Heath, Amy Jones, Heather Knight, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Danni Wyatt.
