The points table ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 currently looks a lot cl??earer after?? India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 to Australia. The leaderboard of the WTC table is determined through Percentage System (PCT) points.

South Africa vs Australia showdown at the Lord’s

As Australia clinched a historic win in the SCG Test to secure the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years, the two teams for the coveted ICC WTC finals are now decided. South Africa currently sits at the top of the table with 66.670 points. The Proteas managed to secure 7 wins and 3 draws in the current cycle with a total of 11 matches they have played. The only match the South Africans lost in the cycle till now was? against India in the Freedom Trophy back in January 2024. The South African team is currently playing a 2-match Test series against Pakistan on their home soil.

The road to finals for the Aussies has not been as smooth as the Proteas, but the Australian team proved their mettle and earned their spot the hard way during the course of the cycle. The Australians managed to draw the 2023 Ashes against England and the Frank Worrell Trophy against the West Indies. However, the Australian team gained important points for the WTC cycle by a clean sweep in the Benaud-Qadir Trophy against Pakistan and Trans-Tasman Trophy against New Zealand. The Australian critically needed to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to reach the WTC finals and the former champions managed to do just that by defeating India 3-1 in the series. Australia are yet to play Sri Lanka in the current cycle.

Notably, the two finalists, South Africa and Australia have not played against each other in the cu?rrent WTC cycle.

India gets the third place in the current WTC cycle

The stark decline of the Indian team in the longest format of the game i??s evident not just with their performance in the recent series loss against Australia, but also from the fact that India, the two-time WTC runner-up has failed to reach the finals of the prestigious title and could only get the No.3 in the league table.

India had played all its matches in the current cycle and with 9 wins and 8 losses only managed to garner 50 PCT points. A clean-sweep against New Zealand and the recent 3-1 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy had hurt the Indian prospects of going to the WTC finals the most. The Kiwis are behind India in the league table with 48.210 PCT points followed by Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh, Pakistan and West Indies.

The 2025-27 cycle of the World Test Championship is set to begin i??n June this y?ear as England take on India for a 5-match Test series on their home soil.

betvisa888 casinoICC World Test Championship final – Cricket Times - betvisa888 //betvisa68.com/2024/09/nathan-lyon-suggests-his-radical-approach-for-world-test-championship-final/ Wed, 04 Sep 2024 07:32:29 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=153445

As the anticipation builds for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) Final, Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has offered a groundbreaking suggestion to elevate the tournament’s stakes and ensure a truly fitting conclusion.

Australian spinner proposes innovative approach to determine champions

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Tuesday that the highly anticipated WTC Final will be held at Lord’s from June 11, 2025. However, Australian spinner has proposed a radical change to the format, suggesting a three-match series to crown the ultimate Test champions.

Lyon’s suggestion comes amidst a growing chorus of voices advocating for a more comprehensive approach to the WTC Final. The current format, which involves a single decisive match, has often been criticized for its potential to produce anticlimactic results.

A balanced way to determine a champion

The Australian veteran believes that a three??-match series would allow teams to showcase their dominance and resilience across various conditions. Lyon envisions one match each in Engla??nd, India, and Australia to truly test the mettle of the finalists.

“One thing I would like to see, I’d like to see the World Test Championship Final potentially in a three-match series. That may become a little bit better because you potentially can lose using a Test match in one session where [i?n a three-match series] it may allow teams to bounce back all your show their dominance and win 3-0. We’re pretty time-poor anyway and that’s going to be a challenge but that’s one thing I would change,/em> Lyon said in an interview with ICC.

Lyon’s proposal presents a compelling argument for a more equitable and engaging way to determine the WTC champions. While the logistical challenges of implementing such a format are significant, it raises important questions about the future of Test cricket’s most prestigious tournament.

Lyon looks ahead to Border-Gavaskar Trophy

As the Australian team gears up for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, Lyon will have a well-deserved break until November. He is expected to participate in the Sheffield Shield to stay match-fit alongside other key players like Pat Cummins and Steve Smith.

The five-match series, which will commence on November 22, 2024, will undoubtedly be a fierce battle between two cricketing giants. Lyon’s experience and skill will be invaluable to Australia’s hopes of retaining the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The World Test Championship (WTC) final stands as a pinnacle event in the cricketing world, drawing anticipation and excitement from fans worldwide. It symbolizes the ultimate showdown between the top two teams in the championship, encapsulating the essence of Test cricket at its finest. However, a recurring question among cricket enthusiasts revolves around the consistent hosting of the WTC final in England only.

England’s reign as hosts of the WTC Final

The inaugural edition being held in Southampton in 2021 and the subsequent final between India and Australia took place at the Oval in London in 2023. Despite hosting it two times already, the upcoming summit clash in 2025 is also set to be held at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground in England, marking the third consecutive time England will host the decider of this red-ball format tournament.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s perspective

The consistent choice of England as the venue for the WTC final has raised eyebrows, prompting discussions within the cricketing community. Ravichandran Ashwin, the veteran off-spinner from India, recently joined the exclusive 500-Test Wickets club and voiced his ???opinion on this matter.

Ashwin advocated for giving hosting rights to countries like India and Australia, which are prominent members of the ‘Big 3’ club in world cricket. He emphasized that India’s Narendra Modi Stadium could be the perfect venue for the summit clash, showcasing the grandeur of Test cricket in the country.

“The last two WTC finals happened in England. Should we change the venue? Why not Australia or India? We have the massive Narendra Modi Stadium waiting to host another great final. What do you think about that? Another person suggested playing on the home ground of the table toppers. That is also a decent thought. But the Australian weather in June is a little dull, so we don’t know about that,” Ashwin said.

Ashwin’s confidence in Team India

Furthermore, Ashwin expressed confidence in India’s potential to qualify for the WTC final for the third time in a row and speculated that the final could once again feature Australia as the opponent.

“We still have two home series and an away series. Same with the Aussies. Looking at all of this, I feel yet another WTC showdown awaits us. Of course, we are at a transition, so our fingers are crossed,” the 37-year-old concluded.

WTC 2023-25 points chart

Presently, India leads the WTC 2023-25 points chart with a Points Percentage System (PCT) of 68.21, while Australia closely follows in second place with a PCT of 62.5%. Ashwin’s remarks shed light on the desire among players and fans alike to see the WTC final hosted in diverse cricketing nations, adding to the global appeal of Test cricket’s premier event.

Former Australia bowler Glenn McGrath has shared his opinion on the controversial catch taken by Cameron Green off Shubman Gill during the Day 4 of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final.

Chasing the mammoth target of 444 in the second innings at the Oval, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma and ??his partner Gill provided a solid? foundation to the team in the run chase. They both put together 41 in just seven overs.

However, in the first delivery of the 8th over bowled by Scott Boland, Gill was undone b?y the extra bounce on the Oval pitch a??s the ball hit the shoulder of his bat when he was lunging forward. The ball then flew to the slip cordon, where Green dived to his left and took a one-handed catch.

The dismissal was referred to the third umpire, Richard Kettleborough, who took his time to review the catch from var??ious angles before ultimately giving the decision in favor of Green.

The decision sparked a debate on social media, with many expressing the view that the catch was not clean and?? that the ball had touched the grass. Several former cricketers also shared their opinions on the ca??tch.

McGrath during an interaction with PTI commented on the catch, stating that he believed most of those catches are out, and he was happy with the decision. He added that if India ha??d taken the catch, he would have been happy as well. McGrath clarified that he was not speaking from an Australian perspective, indicating ?that his opinion was based on the merit of the catch itself.

“I think most of those catches are out. We find ways to give it not out which I like to go the other way. So, I was happy with it. And if it was India taking that catch, I would have been happy too. I’m not just saying from an Australian perspective but that’s the way it goes.” McGrath said as quoted by PTI.

Team India faced a devastating loss in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final against Australia, succumbing to a massive 209-run margin. This defeat marked India’s second consecutive disappointment in the WTC finals, following their previous loss to New Zealand in 2021.

The resounding defeat has ignited a frenzy of discussions on social media, with fans expressing their concerns and raising questions?? about the performance of the cur?rent players. The demand for a complete overhaul of the squad has grown louder, as the team has consistently faltered in crucial matches across all formats.

Offering his insights, veteran Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik emphasized the need for a fresh approach. Karthik pointed out that several players in the current lineup are in their 30s, highlighting the importance of looking towards the future. He urged the selectors to introduce young talents into the team, advocating for the inclusion of three uncapped players – Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, and Mukesh Kumar.

Interestingly, Jaiswal and Mu??kesh were among the three reserve players selected alongside the 15-man squad for the WTC Final. Despite displaying remarkable performances in domestic cricket, Sarfa?raz is yet to receive a call-up for the national team, making his inclusion even more noteworthy.

“I think a bit of both. In many ways we know that a lot of them are in their mid-30s. So few questions there for Rahul Dravid, who he wants to keep and who he wants to move on with. Now other names that you said, Bumrah, Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Pant. Iyer will walk into this team. Let’s make it very obvious. I think they warrant a place in the team. In this cycle, they have been one of the key reasons, why we are sitting here and talking in England today because that’s the kind of success they have helped India achieve,” said Karthik while talking on Cricbuzz.

“No. 1 Yashasvi Jaiswal. He has had a phenomenal domestic season. Are we going to find a place for him? No. 2 Sarfaraz Khan. Now that’s been a big name doing the rounds for some time now in the middle order. If you want to fit him in, who are you going to leave out and then followed by the Mukesh Kumars and the rest of them, is there a place for a new medium pacer to come in and stamp his authority over a period of time? Are you going to give him that two-year cycle?,” added Karthik.

In a highly anticipated clash at the Oval in London, Team India suffered a defeat at the hands of Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final. With the win, Australia etched their name in cricketing history as the first team to clinch all majo?r ICC trophies.

Over the course of five days,?? Australia demonstrated their dominance, eventually securing a 209-run victory over India on Sunday. Chasing a target of 444, the Indian team were bowled out for 234 in 63.3 overs.

This defeat adds to India’s disappointment, as they had previously lost the inaugural WTC final to New Zealand in 2021. Refl??ecting on the ?match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma expressed his prefer??ence for having 20-25 days to prepare for such high-stakes encounters like the ?WTC final.

“Ideally, yes, event like this, final like this, you need a lot of time to prepare yourself and that is what we did the last time when we were here in England. We had good 25-30 days to prepare ourselves. And you saw the result. We were 2-1 up until that game (5th Test, Old Trafford) got called off,” Rohit told in the post-match press conference.

Notably, the team had a mere week to prepare for the final, given that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 had ended on May 28.

Rohit’s comment regarding the need for extended preparation time drew a response from former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri, who disagreed with the captain’s remarks. Shastri suggested that if the team requires 20-25 days to prepare for a tournament of this magnitude, it may be necessary to consider sacrificing participation in the IPL.

That’s never going to happen. Let’s be realistic. You’re going to get 20 days, but if that’s the case, you got to miss the IPL. The choice is yours,â€?/em> Shastri said on Star Sports.

He also emphasized the importance of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) working closely with IPL franchises to address the issue?? of inadequate preparation.

It’s up to the establishment as well. I’m sure the BCCI is going to review this in the future. If the WTC Final is going to come after the IPL, in month of June, for that season, if your team qualifies for the final, there should be certain clauses put in for the franchises,” Shastri further said.

Team India will kick off their campaign for the 2023-?25 WTC cycle with a Test series in? West Indies next month.

India faced an embarrassing defeat of 209 runs at the hands of Australia in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 at the Oval. Rohit Sharma was the captain of Team India in the final. However, when the cycle for the second edition of WTC started, Virat Kohli was the leading man. Nevertheless, Kohli left the captaincy following India’s away defeat against South Africa in 2022. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) under the presidency of Sourav Ganguly then gave the no?d to Rohit to lead the side in the longest format.

Now, former India captain Ganguly has said that the board was not ready for Virat’s Test captaincy exit, which was the latter’s personal decision. Ganguly’s latest remarks come in the wake of fans calling for the reinstatement of Kohli as India’s Test skipper after the Rohit-led side suffered a heavy defeat in WTC 2023 final.

“BCCI were not prepared for Virat Kohli leaving the Test captaincy. It was unexpected for us also after the South Africa tour. Only Virat Kohli can reveal why he left the captaincy. There is no point talking about this now because Virat Kohli left the Test captaincy. Selectors had to appoint an India captain. And Rohit was the best option at that time,” Ganguly stated in an interview to AajTak.

In 2021, Kohli expressed his wish to continue the ODI captaincy, but BCCI still decided to replace him. This decision ignited a lot of speculation about Ganguly and Kohli’s relationship. Ahead of the T20 World Cup of 2021 in UAE, Kohli announced that he would leave the captaincy in the shortest format after the conclusion of the tournament.

The 34-year-old, while leading India in whites, h??as achieved the fourth-highest number of victories with 40 wins and 11 draws in 68 matches. He is currently the fourth most successful captain in the history of Test cricket. He also ranks third among all 28 Test captains who have led their teams in 40 or more matches.

One of the biggest talking points of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season was the off-field clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) mentor Gautam Gambhir. Both were fined 100 per cent of their match fees after their verbal spat.

In the game, Kohli was involved in a verbal dispute with Lucknow pacer Naveen-ul-Haq. Following RCB’s win in an emotionally-charged contest, the dispute got worsened further when Gambhir took Kyle Mayers away during his chat with Kohli. This led to both Kohli and Gambhir engaged in a heated argument. Soon, players from both sides including LSG skipper KL Rahul and RCB captain Faf du Pleassis had to intervene to seperate the two players .

However, weeks after the heated exchange, Gambhir has finally come forward to clarify the situation between him and Kohli. Talking about his verbal spat with the 34-year-old, Gambhir opined that there is nothing personal bet?ween the two, and all the heat stays on the ground.

“I have a lot of fights on the cricket field, I always keep them limited to the cricket field. A lot of people said a lot of things and demanded that I give interviews for TRP. There is no need for a flashback, it was an argument between two individuals that happened on the cricket field. If it had happened outside, you would have called it a fight, this was just two individuals who wanted to win for their team,” Gambh?ir said in an interview with News18 channel.

The former southpaw also sp?oke a??bout having heated arguments on other occasions and taking a stand for his players.

“I? will just say this and not elaborate much, and I will say what I did, which I will endorse as I did for a person who was completely right in that match. If I felt Naveen Ul-Haq did nothing wrong, it w?as my responsibility to stand with him. If my teammate is wrong, I will never stand with him,/em> Gambhir added.

Meanwhile, Kohli’s second-innings resilience in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final went in vain as Pat Cummins led-Aus?tralia br?eached the Indian defence and sustained ??a memorable win. The tremendous victory of 209 runs helped Australia to clinch the prestigious trophy for the first time.

The highly-anticipated World Test Championship (WTC) final ended in a heartbreak for Indian fans as the Australian team registered a mammoth 209-run win over ?India at the Oval in London on Sunday. Australia swiftly asserted their dominance on the fifth day of play while defending a target of 280 runs. Their control was promptly reinforced as pacer Scott Boland dismissed Indian star Virat Kohli early on in the day’s proceedings.

Following the dismissal of Kohli, the entire Indian squad struggled and was ultimately bundled out for 234 as they found it difficult to cope with the relentless assault unleashed by the Australian bowlers. After the devastating defeat, Indian captain Rohit Sharma shared his perspective on the game, stating that India had been trailing thro??ughout all four days of play, and attributed their loss to a failure in executing their game plan effectively.

Rohit mentioned that after the first session of play, the team believed they had?? a good opportunity to dismiss the Australian batters quickly but Steve Smith and Travis Head, changed the game. He acknowledged that India fell short in implementing their game plan as intended and found themselves 160-170 runs behind the Australian total in the first innings.

“After the first session we thought we have a good chance of getting them out quickly, but two of their batters- Steve Smith and Travis Head, did well. We were slightly away from our plans, we did not execute what we had on that pitch which had a lot of assistance. We failed to do that. We were 160-170 runs behind after 1st inn. Wanted to get them out asap in 2nd innings,” said Rohit in the post-match press conference.

“One of the reasons for us to consider batting last was because we thought the wicket won’t change much and will keep getting better. We talked a lot about how we wanted to bowl and bat, but we didn’t actually do that. what to do what not to do, we were behind in the game all four days,” he added.
