Gulbadin Naib‘s dramatic display became an unforgettable moment as Afghanistan secured a historic victory over Bangladesh by 8 runs, clinching a spot in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals. This remarkable achievement also resulted in Australia’s exit from the tournament. Led by Rashid Khan, Afghanistan reached the?? semifinals of an ICC event for the first time ever.

Strategic move during rain delays

The match experienced several rain delays, and during one such interruption, Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott advised his team to slow down the game as light rain began, with Afghanistan ahead on the DLS method. Gulbadin Naib responded by pretending to be injured, a ?move widely believed to be a tactic to waste time. Despite the apparent injury, Gulbadin returned to bowl shortly af??ter.

Naveen-ul-Haq’s playful jab

Gulbadin’s teammates joined in the fun, with pacer Naveen-ul-Haq posting a humorous meme on Instagram, mocking Gulbadin’s antics. The meme was inspired by the popular Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar movie ‘Welcome.’

India are gearing up to face Afghanistan in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Super-Eights encounter in Barbados. The Indian team concluded their group stage with an impressive record, se??curing three wins out of three matches against Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA ??in Group A. Their final match against Canada was abandoned due to rain, leaving India unbeaten in the group stage.

In contrast, Afghanistan finished second in Group C, achieving three victories and suffering a single defeat against the West Indies. Both ?teams will be eager to continue? their strong performances in the Super Eights.

India aims to end ICC Trophy drought

India’s primary objective in this tournament is to break their long-standing drought of ICC tournament titles. Their last major triumph was the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Before that, India celebrated victories in the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the 50-over World Cup in 2011.

In recent years, the Indian team has consistently reached the semifinals and finals of vari??ous tournaments but has fallen short during the knockout stages. The current squad is determined to overcome this hurdle and claim a coveted ICC trophy.

AB de Villiers reveals how India can win their next ICC trophy

South African cricket legend AB de Villiers has weighed in on how India can secure a victory in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. De Villiers believes that India must adopt an aggressive approach and “throw the first punch” in their matches to gain momentum early on.

“Just make sure you throw the first punch. In the past World Cups, I think they have been a bit conservative, sort of feeling their way into a game. They are such a quality team that I feel they can take a bit of a risk early in the game to get the momentum because there is no looking back once they get the momentum,” said De Villiers on his YouTube channel.

De Villiers suggests Virat Kohli to change his batting order

De Villiers also offered specific advice for Virat Kohli, who has struggled with the bat in the T20 World Cup 2024. In the three matches against Ireland, Paki??stan, and the USA, Kohli has scored one, four, and zero runs respectively. While many experts suggest Kohli should continue as an opener, de Villiers believes a change in his batting position could be beneficial.

“I have always said please bat Virat at No. 3. Especially in better wickets that they will play now, Virat is the go-to guy at No. 3. He can play the attacking game and also pull back and absorb the pressure if necessary. He is the best player in the world in the middle overs. I don’t see any reasons [for opening],” added De Villiers.

Sri Lanka’s early exit from the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia involved players partying at casinos and corruption, revealed an enquiry on Thursday.

Notably, Sri Lankan batter Danushka Gunathilaka was arrested soon after Sri Lanka’s premature exit from the T20WC and charged with four counts of sexual assault on a woman in Sydney.

An independent panel that had been investigating Danushka’s case has now come up with a report that shows other players, officials and associates of the Sri Lanka team also being involved in some mischiefs.

In the Men’s World Cup in Australia, Sri Lanka had faced an upset by Namibia in their opening match and couldn’t reach the knockouts, finishing 4th in the super 12 group.

The 63-page investigation report said that bowler Chamika Karunaratne was involved in a nasty fight at a casino accompanied by six teammates. Karunaratne, following the? incident, was fined and suspended for a year.

The team manager of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Halangoda, told the investigation panel that the players went to a casino for dinner because all restaurants in Australia are closed after 8:00 or 8:30 pm, and it was the only food-offering venue. But the panel wasn’t convinced by the explanation.

According to the document seen by AFP, it was further revealed that a former manager Jerome Jayaratne had no role in the team but still stayed in Melbourne for ten days and?? got paid $7000.

The investigative panel reported that Jayaratne contributed nothing to the team an?d spent time with his sister.

Retired Supreme court Justice Kusala Sarojini Weerawardena had asked for an aud??it of the Sri Lankan board and urged their sports minister to seize the documents to ensure? that evidence is not destroyed.

The report also said that a man claiming to be a prophet had established an influential connection with some team members and officials. Unde??r his influence, only Karunaratne left an oil lamp burning in his room d??espite the fire alarm, they added.

Following the report’s disclosure, Sri Lankan sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe said he would study and act on it.

Pakistan will take on Bangladesh in the 41st match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday, November 6.

The winner of this contest will progress to the semifinals in case South Africa or India end up as a losing side in their respective games. By the time Pakistan-Bangladesh meet, South Africa’s clash against the Netherlands would have already been over. So ?if South Africa collapses, it will give Pakistan and Bangladesh a huge lift? before their encounter.

Pitch and Weather report

The Adelaide Oval favours both fast bowlers as well as spinners be?cause of the bounce in the surface. Batters can also score runs freely at this ground once they settle down in the middle. The captain winning the toss may look to bat fir??st as it will be the second game of the day on the same pitch.

A full ??game is?? in the offing as no rain has been forecasted for Sunday.

Who said what?

“This is the best tournament Bangladesh has ever had in a T20 World Cup. We’ve never won two games in Super 12s in the history of Bangladesh cricket, so we’ve done that, so I think the boys should be proud of themselves,” Bangladesh’s technical consultant Sridharan Sriram said in the pre-match presser.

“We believe we can beat Pakistan. Qualifying for the semi-final is not in our hands, unfortunately,” he added.

South Africa and Zimbabwe faced each other in their opening match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 on Monday.

Zimbabwe posted 79/5 in a nine-overs per-side contest due to rain, and in reply, the Proteas were cruising to victory after smashing 51/0 in just three overs. However, the rain had some other plans as it came down heavily again, forcing the umpires to call off the game, awarding both sides a point each.

During the match, an incident caught everyone’s attention when the on-field umpire awarded Zimbabwe five runs in a penalty after the ball touched Quinton de Kock’s gloves, which were lying on the ground.

It all happened in the final over of Zimbabwe’s innings, bowled by pacer Anrich Nortje. The South African pacer bowled a full-length delivery, which Zimbabwe’s Milton Shumba tried to scoop but ended up sending to the fine leg. Keeper De Kock had removed his gloves in anticipation of gathering the ball for a quick throw. But the long throw from Lungi Ngidi hit the glove piece lying on the ground.

The on-field umpire noticed it and immediately awarded five penalty runs to Zimbabwe, leaving South African players in shock. Notably, the rules also specify that in occurrence of such an incident, umpire has the right to call it a dead ball and penalis??e the fielding side with five runs.

According to MCC’s Law 28.3.2, “If the ball while in play strikes the protective helmet (or any other object placed by the fielding team on the ground), the ball shall immediately become dead and, the umpire shall signal No ball or Wide to the scorers, if applicable, and, the umpire shall award 5 penalty runs to the batting side”.

In the first match of the Super 12 stage at ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, defending champion Australia will take on their Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground (??SCG) on Saturda??y (October 22).

The Black Caps will look to take revenge for their defeat in the final of last year’s T20 World Cup and make a positive start in this edition, but it won’t be easy as they don’t have an impressive record in Australia.

On the other hand, the Aussies would like to live up to their reputation of being the t??itle holders and g?et their campaign off to a flying start.

Weather conditions

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecasted 90% chances of rain in Sydney with 3 to 6mm. “Partly cloudy. Very high (90%) chance of showers, most likely in the afternoon and evening. The chance of a thunderstorm,” it stated in a weather report.

A minimum of five overs is required to get a result?? for the match and there are no reser??ve days during the group stages.

Pitch report

The pitch was under cover for most of Friday so Aussie skipper Aaron Finch only got a brief l?ook at?? it. He said it was on the drier side.

betvisa loginICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 – Cricket Times - betvisa live //betvisa68.com/2022/05/sri-lanka-legend-mahela-jayawardene-names-first-five-players-of-his-dream-t20-xi/ Tue, 03 May 2022 14:10:55 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=63562

Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022, Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene has picked five players from the current era for his dream T20 side. Jayawardene went with a maximum of two cricketers from Pakistan and one each from India, England, and Afghanistan.

Starting with his first pick, the current Mumbai Indians (MI) coach chose Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan, who is currently playing for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Jayawardene opined that Rashid has the ability to pick wickets in different situations and also score pric?eless runs with the bat.

“For me, the bowlers are the most important aspect of T20 cricket, and Rashid Khan is a proper spinner that can bat. He is a very good number seven or number eight batter, and you can use him in different circumstances depending on your combinations. He can also bowl in different phases of an innings like during the Powerplay, the middle overs and also at the death he is not a bad option depending on the conditions, so Rashid would be my first pick,” said Jayawardene while speaking on the ICC review show.

The 44-year-old then picked Pakistan pace sensation Shaheen Afridi, who performed outstan??dingly well in the previous edition of the multi-team event. Jayawardene reckoned ?that Shaheen is a wicket-taker who bowls really well in the death overs.

“I am then going to go with two more bowlers, actually, and the first one is going to be a left-armer in Shaheen Afridi. He had a great World Cup last year, bowls very well with the new ball and is more than capable of getting some swing early too. He is a wicket-taking option too that bowls very well at the death as well, so can be considered a good attacking option,” added Jayawardene.

When it comes to the third pick, Jayawardene went with none other than India’s frontline pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The Colomb?o-born cricketer-turned-coach said that he admires Bumrah a lot as the right-armer is a wicket-taker and possesses the ability to close an innings off.

“Jasprit Bumrah is a guy I have always admired as he is capable of bowling in different phases of an innings. He is another wicket-taking option, and when you need guys to close an innings off, there is no one better than Jasprit Bumrah,” observed Jayawardene.

The former Sri Lanka skipper picked England’s Jos Buttler and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan as his remaining two options. Jayawardene said that Buttler would be his opener because of the latter’s explosive batting at the top. Notably, the English star is currently the orange cap holder in IPL 2022, with 588 runs to his name in 10 matches for Rajasthan Royals (RR).

“I would probably open the batting with Jos. He is very aggressive and plays both pace and spin well. He has been in great form at the IPL of late and did well at the last T20 World Cup as well, where he played really well in tough conditions in the UAE,” the former Sussex batter asserted.

Jayawardene named Rizwan as the wicket-keeper of his side and argued that despite Rizwan being an opener for Pakistan, he would bat him in the middle-order due to the Peshawar-born batter’s skill of playing spin.

“The next option is the wicketkeeper-batter, and I am going with Mohammad Rizwan. I know he does often open the batting for Pakistan, but I think he can bat in that middle order. He is a good player of spin and a very busy player,” Jayawardene added further.
