Virat Kohli is often hailed as the modern-day cricket icon and has left an indelible mark on the sport with his exceptional t??alent, unwavering dedication, and unparalleled passion.

From his humble beginnings to becoming one of the most celebrated cricketers in the world, Kohli’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. On that note, let’s take a nostalgic trip down memory lane and explore the remarkable timeline of Kohli’s extraordinary international cricket career.

1) 2008: The India debut

Virat made his One Day International (ODI) debut for India against Sri Lanka on August 18, 2008. The young and determined batter failed to score big in the match an??d was dismissed for mere 12 runs. However, Kohli bounced back stronger and scored his maiden half-century in the fourth match of the same series.

2) 2009-2010: Rising star

It was in 2009, on December 24, that Kohli slammed his maiden ODI century? against Sri Lanka and proved his mettl??e as a class batter.

A year later, Kohli became just the third Indian player to score two ODI centuries before the age of 22. He was also entrusted with the vice-captain role by the Indian management in the tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe the same year.

He finished as India’s leading run-scorer in ODIs in 2010, amassing 995 runs from 25 matches at an average of 47.38, including three centuries and seven half-centuries, solidifying his place in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup Squad. Kohli’s T20I debut for India also came in the same year on 12 June against Zimbabwe.

3) 2011: World Cup glory

Kohli played a crucial role in India’s triumphant 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup campaign. The right-handed batter hammered a brilliant ton in the first match against Bangladesh, becoming the first Indian batter to score a century on World Cup debut. Kohli’s form continued, and he contributed with vital runs throughout the tournament, including a pivotal 35 in the final against Sri Lanka.

4) 2011: Test debut and vice-captaincy

Kohli made his Test debut against West Indies in 2011 on June 20, marking the beginning of his journey in the longest format of the game. The young cricketer notched up his first Test century against Australia in Adelaide in January 2012. He was ev?en appointed as the vice??-captain of the Indian cricket team for the Asia Cup in the same year.

5) 2012-2013: Ascending to greatness

On March 18 2012, Kohli registered his personal best ODI score of 183 runs against Pakistan in the final group stage match of the Asia Cup. He next year was included in India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 and lifted his second major ICC title as a player.

6) 2014: Taking over the captaincy reins from MS Dhoni in Tests

Kohli became the captain of the Indian team for the first time in December 2014 on the Australia tour due to MS Dhoni not being part of the team owing to? injury. The batter was later appointed full-time skipper of the side after Dhoni announced his retirement ahead of the fourth Test.

Kohli’s first series win as Test captain and India’s first away Test series win in four years came on the Sri Lanka tour in 2015.

Apart from this, Kohli continued his consistent batting performance in the T20I format as well and won the second consecutive ‘Man of the Tournament’ award at the 2016 World Twenty20.

8) 2017: Dominating across formats

Kohli became the first batter to score double centuries in four consecutive Test? series, breaking several records and establishing his dominance as a batsman. He even led In??dia to the final of the ICC Champions Trophy the same year.

9) 2018: Rise as the leader

On August 2 2018, Kohli registered his first Test century on English soil. Three days later, he became the No. 1 ranked Test batter of the world in the ICC Rankings. During an ODI series against West Indies in the same year, Kohli achieved the feat? of becoming just the 12th ba??tter to amass 10,000 ODI runs in the 50-over format.

Kohi also won the 2018-19 Border Gavaskar Trophy later, becoming the first Asian and Indian skipper to win a Test series in Australia.

10) 2019: World Cup Campaign

Kohli guided India to the team to the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. However, India were eliminated after suffering a loss against New Zealand in the knockout fixture.

11) 2020-2021: Resignation from captaincy

Although Kohli captained India in the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, he stepped down from the skipper’s post in the limited-overs format soon after the conclusion of the event. Notably, India failed to reach even the semi-final round of the event.

On January 15 2022, Kohli also stepped down as India’s Test captain after the 2-1 test series defeat against South Africa.

12) 2022-Present: Return to form

Despite a dip in form for almost two years, Kohli made a strong comeback in the Asia Cup 2022 and remains a pivotal figure in the Indian team’s batting lineup. He has slammed 76 international centuries in international cricket so far and is just behind legendary Sachin Tendulkar in terms of most hundreds.

The age-old rivalry be??tween India and Pakistan produces the magic in their cricketing encounters. The high-octane clashes between the two neighbouring countries hav?e been some of the best cricket lovers have witnessed thus far.

Inspite of the contests turning out to be heated occasionally, the off-field relations between players have always been amicable. And so it has for legends such as Yuvraj Singh and Shoaib Malik.

Team India always has had the better of their a??rch-rivals during World Cup games. In fact, they remain unbeaten against Pakistan in ICC events.

However, the story is different when it comes to the Champions Trophy, where the ‘Men in Green’ have dominated the blues.

Pakistan defeated India in the ICC Champions ??Trophy of 2004, 2009 and then their title-winning encounter 2017.

The 2017 Champions Trophy final win went on to show the unpredictability with the Pakistan cri??cket team, which came out triumphant starting as underdogs.

Therefore, the win holds a special pla??ce for veteran Malik who has been a part of all the three Champions Trophy wins against India.

“In terms of winning that tournament in 2017, yes it was a great feeling to win another ICC Trophy, but I have another memory that is very special to me,” Malik told PakPassion.net.

Even after losing the all-importa??nt finals, despite winning the group encounter in the tournament, the Indian team were seen in jovial ?spirit with Malik and Co.

“I remember after the final at The Oval against India sitting in the dining hall talking to Yuvraj Singh. We were just chatting and he said, ‘Your team-mates are celebrating, don’t miss out on this special moment, you should be celebrating with them.’ It is just a small example of how cricket generates very good friendships no matter where we come from.” Malik added

“Yes, we do battle on the field, and we try our best to win for our country, but off the field, we can still be friends,” said Indian Tennis star Sania Mirza’s spouse.

Unfortunately, the cricketing world is currently devoid of one of its keenly?? fought rivalries along with the same bracket as?? the Ashes.

Since 2012, Indo-Pak cricket duels have been only limited to ICC e?vents, and multilater??al series on neutral grounds basis.

“I think the world badly needs this rivalry to resume, in the same way that world cricket needs the Ashes. Could England and Australia imagine Test cricket without an Ashes series? Both series are played with the same kind of passion and have such a great history, so it is a shame that we don’t play right now,” Malik concluded.

It was a heartbreaking moment for all Indian fans when they saw the misunderstanding between Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya in the final of ICC Champions Trophy?? 2017, which cost the run-out of Hardik, who was smashing Pakistani bowlers out of the park and was playing extraordinarily well.

No Indian fan can also forget the foo??tage ?of Hardik screaming and yelling in anger while walking back to the pavilion.

Even fans on Twitter trolled Ravindra Jadeja badly as they thought it was completely his fault. And now it was Jadeja’s turn to shut out his critics who held him responsible for Pandya’s unfortunate run-out in the big final.

In his recent interview, Jadeja slammed his trollers and said, “True followers of cricket, ones who understand the game, know that such things are a part of cricket.” “It happens in the game. No one does it intentionally. Everyone wants to play for the country, everyone has their own dreams. Run-outs happen hundreds of times. I don’t think about it too much. Critics can say what they want. They change their views after every series. I don’t play for them,” Jaddu added.

Ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy final played between Pakistan and India at the Oval, former MS Dhoni was pictured carrying Sarfaraz Ahmed‘s adorable baby boy Abdullah.

Sarfaraz’s son was born in February this year and the Pakistani captain had revealed that he is a great admirer of Dhoni and also idolizes him.

Well, Sarfaraz has become the hero of his country after he led his team towards victory in the final against India. He is e?njoying the limelight and attention like never before, but the best thing is he has maintained the sanity.

He has ?been giving lots of interviews these days, but unlike the media would expect him to do, in no??ne of his interviews he said bad words about Indian team.

In fact, in a recent interview, he praised Dhoni for clicking a pi?cture with his son.

Here’s what he said:

“I was sitting in the lobby with my family. We were sharing the same hotel so once I saw MS, I went after him and asked for a picture of him and my son Abdullah. Once he grows up, he would have fond memories of him, lapped on one of the greats of the game.”

Indian cricket team’s star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was in England for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 when media reports flashed of Yuvraj and his beautiful wife Hazel Keech becoming parents soon.

All this happened because, after their marriage, the adorable ?couple is mostl??y spotted together. But fans could not find Hazel supporting her husband in the ICC tournament although it was played in her hometown.

Everyone raised eyebrows when they didn’t find Hazel during India’s matches against Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Yuvi and Hazel fans on Twitter wanted to know why the Bollywood beauty didn’t come in the stadium.

Some of the entertainment websit??es claimed that it was because Hazel is going to deliver a baby soon. But all these reports and updates on social media are false.

If haters of Sania Mirza on social media think that they are hurting their target by trolling her or ??sending hateful messages, they had to better think again.

In a recent interaction with media, she has finally opened up on trolls and you will become her fan (if you are not yet) after kn?owing her thoughts which are above and beyond hatred. The woman certainly deserves a big round of applause for her viewpoint and it will change your thinking too??.

Here’s what Sania said:

“I’m pretty numb to them. It is very easy to sit and judge someone from the outside and, honestly, I feel sad for the haters. I don’t have that many â€?it’s probably 20 percent haters and 80 percent good â€?but it’s still a large number of people. I feel sad for them that they have so much hate for a person they don’t even know. To have such a strong dislike toward someone you have never met or have no idea about, and who you’re so irrelevant to â€?you’ve got to be really miserable.”

“I support my husband, of course, but I support India, too. It’s not as dramatic as people want to make it sound. They think we are at each other with knives every time India plays Pakistan. It’s not like that. We have to remember it’s sport. That’s the message every athlete wants to put across. It doesn’t matter. When India lost to Pakistan, they lost a game of cricket, that’s the bottom line. It’s not war, a matter of life and death.”

Sania Mirza tweet

“There were some amazing visuals the ICC put out after the match: my husband was talking to (India players) Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli, sharing a joke. It was 10 minutes after the match, before the presentation ceremony. That is the spirit of the game.”

Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik

The Indian Tennis sensation also told people about the similarities between India and Pakistan, “India and Pakistan are so similar: we speak the same language, eat the same food, most things are the same. They [the teams] actually get along with each other as well as, or probably better than, with other people because the cultures are so similar. I find it absurd that people can’t understand that, but maybe if you don’t play a sport it’s tough.”

sania-mirza

“It doesn’t really matter what a random guy sitting 5,000 miles away is saying to me. I don’t take anything to heart, whether it’s good or bad because neither of them lasts,” she added.

A video has become viral on the internet, which shows that a Paki?stani guy who insulted Indian cricketers is being brutally beaten up for t??rolling team India.

He is the same cricket fan who had made Mohammad Shami furious after Pakistan’s win in the ICC Champions Trophy final by asking ‘Baap Kaun hai?’

Shami must have given him the reply at that very moment but it was former skipper MS Dhoni, who then calmed down the situation and took him back to the dressin??g room.
