Cricket is a gentleman’s game, but having a brawl with rivals is a part and parcel of the sport. Players do it all the time to each other either to let their frustration out or get inside a rival’s head and force a mistake from their end. Something of a similar sort happened as star South African Heinrich Klassen got involved in a tussle with some of the Pakistani ??pla??yers that didn’t end well for him.

ICC fined Heinrich Klassen for kicking the stumps

It started during the 26th over of the South African innings as they were chasing down a total of 329 runs from Pakistan. Haris Rauf bowled the final ball of the over after which he said something to Klassen which ignited the South African wicket-keeper who retaliated with some words of his own. Pakistani skipper Mohammed Rizwan got involved in the scene to defend his  bowler and there was some finger-pointing between him and Klassen. The mood on the pitch returned back to some normalcy as umpires and some senior Pakistani players like Babar Azam mediated but it s?eemed that the flashpoint had got into Klassen’s head ever since.

The South African chase came to an end as Klassen was the last man dismissed by Naseem Shah. Klassen made a valiant effort to save the match for his team and keep the Proteas’ hope alive in the series, but he didn’t get any support from other South African batters. Furious with the loss, Klassen hit the stumps to let his frustration out. Later on, ICC announced that Klassen has been found guilty of breaching the ICC code of conduct and levied 15 percent of his match fee for the same.

The offence of Klaasen

ICC further explained that Klassen breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures? and fittings during an international match.?/em> Additionally, one demerit point has also been added to Klassen’s disciplinary record since it was his first offence in a 24-month period.

Klassen has reportedly accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Richie Richardson. On-field umpires Alex Wharf and Lubabalo Gcuma, third umpire Nitin Menon, and fourth umpire Allahuddien Palekar levelled the charges against him f??or the offence.

South Africa will play the third and final ODI of the series against Pakistan in the Wanderers sta??dium. The visiti??ng side has already secured an unbeaten 2-0 lead in the series. However, Proteas will quest to avoid a series white-wash against a Pakistani side who has managed to defeat them convincingly in the first two ODIs.

The first T20I of Pakistan’s tour of South Africa 2024-25 will be played on Tuesday, December 10 at Kingsmead Stadium in Durban, promising fans an ??exhilarating contest between two cricketing powerhouses.

A clash of equals

South Africa, ranked 6th in the ICC T20I rankings, and Pakistan, cl??osely following at 7th, are set to reignite their rivalry in the shortest format of the game. Both teams aim to assert dominance in a format where they once ruled supreme. Having faced each other in 22 T20Is, Pakistan holds a slight edge with 12 wins to South Afr?ica’s 10.

South Africa enters the three-match series determined to recover from a 3-1 series defeat against India in November. Meanwhile, Pakistan brings confidence from their recent 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe. With match-win??ners and power-hitters on both sides, the stage is set for a fierce ??showdown.

3 battles to watch out for in South Africa vs Pakistan 1st T20I

1. Heinrich Klaasen vs Shaheen Shah Afridi: A duel of prowess

South African skipper Heinrich Klaasen, celebrated as one of the most dangerous batters in modern cricket, will face a stern test against Pakistan’s left-arm pace sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi. Klaasen’s ability to hit sixes against any bowler, be it pacers or spinners, is legendary. On the other hand, Afridi, renowned for his wicket-taking prowess in the powerplay and middle overs, will look to exploit any vulnerabilities in Klaasen’s techn?ique. This battle promises to set the tone for the series.

2. Anrich Nortje vs Babar Azam: Speed meets elegance

Anrich Nortje, South Africa’s tearaway pacer, is known for his blistering pace and precision. His versatility, ranging from toe-crushing yorkers to sharp bouncers, makes him a formidable opponent. However, standing in his way is Pakistan’s batting maestro, Babar Azam. Ranked 5th in ICC T20I batting rankings and boasting three centuries in the format, Babar’s elegant stroke play has often left bowlers baffled. Interestingly, one of his T20I centuries came against South Africa. Fans wi??ll eagerly anticipate how Babar tackles Nortje’s fiery spells, particularly given Nortje’s stunning four-wicket haul in his only previous T20I against Pakistan.

3. David Miller vs Haris Rauf: A finisher against the enforcer

David Miller, South Africa’s T20 specialist, has built a reputation for game-changing performances during the middle and death overs. His dominance on home soil makes him a crucial player for the hosts. Countering him will be Pakistan’s Haris Rauf, the leading wicket-taker for his side in T20Is and the only P??akistani bowler ranked in the top 20 of ICC T20I bowling rankings. Rauf’s ability to strike during the middle overs and adapt to overseas conditions makes this contest a must-watch. Fans can expect fireworks as Miller’s explosive batting comes up against Rauf’s precision and pace.

Australia took a decisive 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series against Pakistan, registering a 13-run win at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday (November 16). The star of the show was Spencer Johnson, whose exceptional spell of 5/26 dismantled Pakistan’s batting order. Johnson’s precision and pace made him unplayable, ensuring that the modest target of 148 was enough for Australia. This emphatic performance leaves the final match of the series inconsequential, with Australia already crowned victors.

Australia’s innings: A mixed bag with the bat

Australia’s innings began with a flurry of runs, thanks to Matthew Short (32 off 17) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (20 off 9). Their aggressive stroke play propelled the team to 52 in under four overs, giving the hosts a strong platform. However, a middle-order collapse followed, triggered by Pakistan’s bowlers. Haris Rauf’s lethal spell (4/22) removed key batters, including Glenn Maxwell and Josh Inglis. Abbas Afridi (3/17) provided excellent support, choking runs and claiming crucial wickets. Despite a valiant 28-run knock by Aaron Hardie, Australia could only muster 14?7/9, leaving them vulnerable.

Pakistan’s bowling unit executed their plans brilliantly, particularly in the middle overs. Rauf showcased his ability to deliver under pressure, dismissing dangerous batters at critical junctures. Afridi’s pinpoint accuracy ensured Australia’s lower order couldn’t capitalize in the death overs. Sufiyan Muqeem (2/21) was equally effective, varying his pace to deceive the batters. The bowling effort was a testament to Pakistan’s depth in this department, even in the absence of their lead spinner.

Pakistan’s chase: Early stumbles and collapse

Pakistan’s chase began on the wrong foot as Babar Azam (3 off 3) departed cheaply, caught off a mistimed shot. Mohammad Rizwan, who managed only 16 runs off 26 balls, struggled to find any rhythm against Australia’s disciplined bowling. Usman Khan (52 off 38) was the lone bright spot, mixing aggressi??on with calculated risks. His quick 50 gave Pakistan hope, but the lack of partnerships at the other end proved costly. Wickets fell in clusters, with Pakistan ?losing four batters for just 6 runs in the middle overs.

Spencer Johnson’s fierce five-wicket haul spell

Johnson’s fiery bowling was the defining moment of the match. The left-arm pacer claimed five wickets, including key players like Usman and Agha Salman. Johnson’s control over line and length, coupled with his variations in pace, left the batters guessing. His spell not only stifled Pakistan’s scoring but also ensured the tailenders couldn’t contribute significantly.

Australia’s fielding unit backed their bowlers with sharp catches and athletic stops. Xavier Bartlett was instrumental, taking two key catches to dismiss Usman and Sahibzada Farhan. The run-out of Muqeem, orchestrated by Matthew Short further broke the lower-order resistance. Such coordinated efforts in the field reflect Australia’s high standards and team synergy.

Shaheen Afridi’s historic climb to the top

Shaheen’s consistent performances against Australia played a crucial role in Pakistan’s landmark series win, as he took eight wickets across three matches at an impressive average of 12.62. His relentless accuracy and pace allowed him to maintain control over Australian batters. Shaheen’s efforts earned him a jump of three places in the ODI rankings, taking him to the top with a personal best of 696 rating points, which he achieved after the final match in Perth. Adam Zampa, who previously held a higher position, has now dropped five spots to sit at No. 9. Similarly, Josh Hazlewood fell by?? three places, moving to 10th. Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf spearheaded with a sensational bowling display against Australia, claiming a brilliant five-wicket haul in the second ODI at Adelaide Oval. Rauf’s devastating spell led Pakistan to restrict Australia? to a lo??w total of 163, setting the stage for a?? comfortable run chase and boosting Pakistan’s chance??s in the ODI series.

The Paki??stan bowlers maintained relentless pressure from the outset.

Haris Rauf dominates Australian batters

Rauf’s first wicket was Australia’s promising wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis, who fell for 18 runs in the 14th over. The dismissal was set up with a short delivery down the leg side, which Inglis attempted to pull but only managed to glove to keeper Mohammad Rizwan, who took the catch cleanly.

Just two overs later, Rauf returned to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne, a key player in Australia’s middle order. Known for his consistent ODI record, Labuschagne could only manage 6 runs before edging a backfoot defense to Rizwan. Rauf’s delight was evident as he unleashed a roar of triumph.

In the 26th over, Aaron Hardie became Rauf’s third victim. The full delivery on the fourth-stump line forced Hardie into a defensive shot, but the ball edged to Rizwan, who took?? his f??ourth catch of the innings.

Rauf’s fourth wicket came when he dismissed the aggressive Glenn Maxwell in the 28th over. Bowling a short ball outside off, Rauf baited Maxwell into a pull shot. Maxwell misjudged, inside-edging the ball onto his stumps, sending his off-stump cartwheeling. With Aust??ralia’s score plummeting, Maxw?ell’s wicket felt like a hammer blow.

To complete his memorable fifer, Rauf claimed the wicket of Australia skipper Pat Cummins in the 32nd over. A ??short ball enticed Cummins to pull, resulting in a faint edge to Rizwan. Cummins initially reviewed, but Snicko showed a clear spike, confirming the dismissal. Rauf knelt down and performed a Sajda (prostration), a gesture of gratitude, as he celebrated his five-wicket haul in ??style.

Rauf capped off an extraordinary spell, taking five wickets for a mere 29 runs over eight overs, maintaining an impressive economy rat?e of 3.60. This marked his second five-wicket haul in ODI cricket. His performance not only put Pakistan in a commanding position but also earned him widespread praise, highlighting his skill and growth as a pace bowler on the international stage.

In the second ODI of the ongoing series between Australia and Pakistan, held at the iconic Adelaide Oval on Friday (November 8), Pakistan’s captain Mohammad Rizwan delivered a re??markable performance, setting a n?ew benchmark in wicketkeeping.

Mohammad Rizwan’s stunning performance against Australia

On a day of exceptional wicketkeeping, Rizwan achieved a historic feat by matching the world record for the most catches in a single ODI innings. Rizwan held onto six catches, demonstrating remarkable agility and sharp reflexes. His exceptional display behind the stumps played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s control over the Australian batting.  However, the record-breaking performance was nearly flawless, save for one slight lapse in concentration – Rizwan missed a seventh catch when he dropped a skier offered by Adam Zampa off the bowling of Naseem Shah in the 34th over.

Rizwan matches remarkable feats of Sarfaraz Ahmed and Adam Gilchrist

Despite this, Rizwan’s overall performance remained outstanding, and his six catches saw him joining the ranks of eight other wicketkeepers, including his compatriot Sarfaraz Ahmed, who have achieved this rare feat. The record of six catches in an ODI innings is no small accomplishment. Rizwan’s remarkable achievement places him alongside the best in the business. Australian legend Adam Gilchrist holds the record for the most instances of six catches in an ODI innings, with four such feats to his name, further underlining the significance of Rizwan’s performance. His flawless keeping was not just a personal triumph but also an indicator of his leadership, which inspired Pakistan’s bowlers to execute their plans effectively on the field.

Pakistan’s bowling led by Haris Rauf decimate Australia

Earlier, Pakistan’s bowlers put on a masterclass in the second ODI, reducing Australia to just 163 runs, marking their lowest-ever total in the first inning in an ODI. The Pakistan pacers, led by Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi, delivered an awe-inspiring display, dominating the Aus??tralian batting line-up from the o??utset.

Rauf, the standout performer, took five wickets, completely dismantling the Australian middle order. The Rawalpindi-born pacer, who had already contributed three wickets in the first ODI, came back with a vengeance, ensuring that Australia had no chance of recovering after the early breakthroughs. Shaheen set the tone with the new ball, removing both Aussie openers?strong>Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short within his first few overs.

As the innings unfolded, Rauf’s destructive spell ensured Australia’s collapse. He finished with five wickets, while Shaheen supported him with three. Mohammad Hasnain and Naseem also contributed by picking up one wicket each, leaving Australia with no answers to Pakistan’s relentless bowling attack. Steve Smith wa??s the top scorer for Australia, managing just 35 runs in an otherwise dismal batting performance.

Pakistan won the toss and chose to field first against Australia in the 2nd ODI of the three-game series, hoping to take advantage of the early conditions in Adelaide on Friday (November 8) . Their decision quickly paid off as Shaheen Afridi struck in the third over. Bowling with pace and precision, Shaheen targeted Australia’s opening pair, creating pressure with his tight line and length. In the third over, Jake Fraser-McGurk attempted to take on Shaheen but missed a straight delivery and ?was trapped lbw for 13 runs off 10 balls. Australia lost their first wicket at 21, giving Pakistan an early breakthrough and momentum.

Babar Azam’s swift catch wraps up Matthew Short’s time at the wicket

In the 7th over, Shaheen clinched his second wicket with Matthew Short’s dismissal, thanks to a brilliant catch by Babar Azam. Shaheen, aiming to unsettle Short, bowled a short and wide delivery – far from his best. Sensing an opportunity, Short tried to slash it through the off side with a powerful cut. However, he failed to get it past the infield and the ball flew off the bat, veering towards cover. Babar, stationed nearby, reacted instantly, diving sharply to his right to complete a clean, low catch, showcasing both his anticipation and safe hands. This catch not only rewarded Shaheen’s effort but also redeemed him after a prior missed opportunity. Short departed for 19 and reduced Australia to 41/2.

Virat Kohli, arguably one of the greatest batters of his generation, had already announced his retirement from T20 Internationals in June following India’s historic victory over South Africa in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Despite stepping away from the format, Kohli left the stage on a high note, contributing a crucial 76 runs in the final match, which propelled India to their second T20 World Cup title. His performance not only secured the championship but also solidified his legacy as one of the all-time greats in the shorter format of the game. However, amid his illustrious career, one particular innings stands out as a defining moment that transcends all others. While Kohli’s performances are legendary, none can overshadow his unforgettable knock against Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.

The match for the ages: Virat Kohli vs Pakistan

In a high-pressure encounter held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Kohli showcased his remarkable ability to perform under pressure. After Pakistan posted a competitive total of 159/8, India’s innings faced an immediate setback, with both openers dismissed early, leaving the team reeling at 10/2. The situation worsened when India found itself in a precarious position at 31 for 4 within the first seven overs.

Yet, the arrival of Kohli at the crease instilled hope in the Indian camp. Partnering with Hardik Pandya, he orchestrated a remarkable recovery, forming a crucial 113-run partnership that brought India back into contention. Kohli’s calm demeanor and tactical acumen were on full display as he guided the innings with precision.

The turning point: Kohli’s brilliance shines and world famous six on 18.5

As the match reached a nail-biting climax, India needed 28 runs off the final eight deliveries. In a breathtaking turn of events, Kohli struck Haris Rauf for two consecutive sixes, swin??ging the momentum back in favour of India. His ability to read the game and execute under immense pressure highlighted why he is regarded as one of the finest in T20 h?istory.

Kohli’s unbeaten 82 runs off 53 balls not only sealed a remarkable victory for India but also etched this innings into the annals of T20I history. ??His performance in that match is often cited as one of the greatest T20 knocks ever?, exemplifying his extraordinary talent and mental fortitude.

3 tactics Pakistan could have used to counter Virat Kohli’s 82-run performance in the T20 World Cup 2022:

1. More aggressive bowling against Kohli

What Happened: Pakistan’s bowlers were overly cautious in their approach to Kohli, failing to challenge him effectively. They often bowled too short or offered him width, allowing Kohli to settle into his innings and dominate the scoring. This lack of aggression meant that he could play his natural game without facing significant pressure, ultimately enabling him to guide India to victory.

What Pakistan Could Have Done: Pakistan’s bowling unit, particularly the fast bowlers, could have adopted a more aggressive strategy by targeting Kohli’s stumps and employing a consistent fuller length. By utilizing bouncers strategically to unsettle him, they could have forced him into risky shots. A proactive bowling plan that adapted to Kohli’s strengths would have placed him under greater pressure, potentially altering the match’s outcome.

2. Better field placements and defensive strategy for Kohli

What Happened: The field placements during the chase were overly defensive, lacking close-in catchers that could have applied pressure on Virat Kohli. This allowed him to play freely without the threat of an immediate dismissal. With no catchers nearby, he effortlessly found gaps and targeted specific areas of the field. As a result, Kohli settled into his innings, accumulating runs and ultimately leading India to victory. This lack of aggression in field settings significantly contributed to Pakistan’s inability to contain his scoring.

What Pakistan Could Have Done: Pakistan’s then captain, Babar Azam, could have adjusted the field better to put more pressure on Kohli, particularly during those final overs. For instance, placing fielders deeper for specific deliveries, especially on the leg side, could have cut off one of the sixes. In such high-pressure situations, adjusting to the batter’s strengths and ensuring tighter fielding would have helped. Additionally, bringing more fielders into key positions to save boundaries, or using a more defensive setup against an in-form Kohli, could have increased the pressure on him to take riskier shots.

3. Saving Haris Rauf’s final over for the 20th

What Happened: Pakistan bowled Rauf in the 19th over, where he bowled well until Kohli’s last two incredible sixes changed the game, particularly on the 18.5 delivery. Mohammad Nawaz, the left-arm spinner, was tasked with defending 16 runs in the final over, which he couldn’t do effectively under ?pressure. Nawaz’s over was marred by a waist-high no-ball, a wide, and some poorly executed deliveries.

What Pakistan Could Have Done: Pakistan could have saved Rauf’s final over for the 20th instead of bowling him in the 19th. Rauf, with his experience and pace, would have been?? a better choice for defending runs in the last over. A pacer like Rauf could have bowled tight yorkers or used pace variations to deny Kohli room to hit boundaries. While Nawaz was a good bowler, the pressure of bowling the final over in such a high-stakes situation clearly affected his execution. By switching the? roles of the bowlers, with Rauf handling the ultimate responsibility, Pakistan could have increased their chances of closing out the match.

Kamran Ghulam‘s name will forever be etched in the history books of Pakistani cricket. Not only did he debut, but he stole the show with a magnificent century, silencing his doubters and proving his??? worth on the biggest stage.

Kamran Ghulam’s painful controversial past resurfaces

While Ghulam’s debut was a dream come true, an old video from the 2022 Pakistan Super League (PSL) resurfaced online, causing a stir. The clip showed a heated exchange between Ghulam and his then-Lahore Qalandars teammate, fast bowler Haris Rauf. After Ghulam dropped a catch off Rauf’s bowling, the bowler reacted furiously, slapping Ghulam during the celebration. Though Rauf later hugged Ghulam after a successful run-out, the incident highlighted the pressure and emotions that can run high in professional cricket.

Ghulam’s selection came as a surprise to many. He replaced the out-of-form Babar Azam, the Pakistani captain and batting mainstay. This placed immense pressure on Ghulam, who had to prove his selection justified. Step??ping into the shoes of the main batter, Ghulam did not disappoint. He batted with grit and determination, anchoring the Pakistan innings and frustrating the England bowlers.

Building partnerships and reaching milestones

Ghulam’s knock was not a solitary feat. He stitched together crucial partnerships that built the foundation for Pakistan’s score. His 149-run stand with Saim Ayub, who scored a career-best 77, brought stability to the innings after early wickets. Later, he shared a 65-run partnership with Mohammad Rizwan to keep the scoreboard ticking. Finally, Ghulam reached a personal milestone, scoring a century in his debut Test. He became only the 13th Pakistani batter to achieve this feat, solidifying his place in the his?tory books.

Ghulam’s innings wasn’t without its challenges. He faced the brunt of England’s bowling attack and weathered the storm with patience and skill. His 323-minute vigil at the crease was a testament to his resilience. Unfortunately, just half an hour before the end of the day’s play, spinner Shoaib Bashir dismissed him for 118 runs.

Despite his dismissal, Ghulam’s debut has been hailed as a resounding success. He has not only answered his critics but also proven himself as a reliable and talented batter. With his talent and determination, Ghulam looks set to become a mainstay in the Pakistani Test team for years to come.
