Gujarat Titans (GT) battled against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 51st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 7). GT emerged victorious by 56 runs ?in a one-sided affair. The match also saw a hilarious ?incident take place, where Gujarat wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha rushed onto the fiel?d wearing the trousers the other way around.

Asked to bat first, GT got off to a flying start with Shubman Gill and Saha webbing a 142 runs partnership for the opening wicket. While Gill scored brilliant 94 runs off 51 balls, Saha hammered 81 off 43 deliveries. The sensational knock from the duo eventually powered Gujarat to a mammoth 227-run total for the loss of just two wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Meanwhile, the only bowlers to pick up a wicket for LSG were Mohsin Khan and Avesh Khan.

Following the first innings, GT decided to substitute 38-year-old Saha with KS Bharat to give the former rest after his heroic knock. However, as soon as Bh??arat was walking onto the ground to perform the wicketkeeping duties in Saha’s place, the on-field umpire quickly intervened and stopped him.

The match official told the GT captain Hardik Pandya and coach Ashish Nehra that they can only field a substitute wicketkeeper if Saha is injured or Bharat comes in as an impact player. Amidst all this confusion, Saha mistakenly wore his pants in the wrong way before rushing onto the ground. The pictures and videos of the Bengal cricketer wearing trousers the other way around soon went v??iral on the internet.

Notably, GT later bought in Alzarri Joseph as an impact player replacing Gill. On the other hand, Saha was also taken off the field and replaced wi??th Bharat as he struggled to keep the wickets after several overs

Coming back to the match, LSG failed to chase the target set by Gujarat and ended up losing the game by huge 56 runs. Although Quinton de Kock played a fighting 70-run knock for his team, he couldn’t get his team across the line. Mohit Sharma shined with the ball for GT and?? scalped four wickets in ??the contest.

In the battle of brothers (Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya), the younger one got the better of elder as the Titans registered a dominant 56-run triumph.

During the LSG’s chase, GT all-rounder Rashid Khan displayed outstanding fielding skills to grab a catch of Kyle Mayers, who was going bonkers with his power hitting. The catch was so good that it even impressed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) icon Virat Kohli, who couldn’t resist himself to praise the Afghanistan stalwart.

It all happened during the ninth over of LSG’s chase bowled by Mohit Sharma. The right-arm pacer went for a short delivery and Mayers tried to hook it but couldn’t get the timing right. It seemed the top edge would drop in the no man’s land in the deep square leg region, however, Rashid did the unthinkable as he sprinted across to his right and completed an outstanding diving catch.

Rashid stunned the fans and commentators and Kohli, was also impressed with the former’s efforts. The Delhi-born cricketer took to his official Instagram profile and posted a story with a captain “One of the best catches I’ve ever seen. Brilliant @rashid_khan19.”

Speaking about the game, the Titans posted a mammoth score of 227/2 in 20 overs with Shubman Gill smashing a brilliant unbeaten 94 off just 51 balls, hitting seven sixes and two fours in his splendid knock. His opening partner Wriddhiman Saha also sizzled ?with the bat, smashing 81 from 43 balls, featuring 10 fours and 4 maximums.

In response, LSG could only manage to reach 171/7 in 20 overs, losing the contest by 56 runs. Opener Quinton de Kock smashed a quickfire 41-ball 70 and Mayers scored 48 off 32 but other batters couldn’t contribute much.

Speedster Mohammed Shami was at his level best in the inaugural match of Gujarat Titans (GT) against another debutant Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Monday. Shami destroyed the top-order of Super Giants and gave Gujarat a perfect start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign.

Although Shami wasn’t the only major highlight for the Hardik Pandya-led side, there was another moment that captured a lot of attention featuring young superstar Shubman Gill. The 22-year-old exhibited acrobatic skills to take a stunning catch in the game.

It all happened during the fourth over of Lucknow’s innings bowled by pacer Varun Aaron. The right-armer delivered a short outside off ball to Evin Lewis.?? The batter rocked back?? and pulled it towards the deep mid-wicket region.

However, due to lack of timing, the white leather went miles in the air, and Gill ran back from the mid-wicket position, kept his eyes on the ball, and took the catch over his shoulders, reminding many fans of the unforgettable catch taken by the legendary Kapil Dev in the 1983 World Cup Final.

In the match, after losing four wickets for 29 runs, the KL Rahul-led Lucknow bounced back and ended up scoring 158/6 in 20 overs, thanks to stunning half-centuries by Deepak Hooda and debutant Ayush Badoni.
