Former New Zealand cricketer Scott Styris and current Kiwi all-rounder James Neesham took a cheeky dig at England after the English football team lost the 2020 Euro Cup final against Italy. T??he summit clash took place at the Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday??.

After a nail-biting contest that went to the penalty shootouts, England lost the match 2-3 as the English trio of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Buyako Saka missed their strikes.

After the game, both Styris and Neesham shared their views on social media and recalled England’s cricket team’s win at the 2019 Cricket World Cup against Black Caps.

Notably, the final between England and New Zealand involved a few controversies, with the biggest being how the winner was decided. First, the match ended in a tie, and then the Super-Over? also ended in a draw.

However, England were still declared the champions as at that time according to ICC rule “if a Super Over ends in a tie, the team with more boundaries count will be declared the winner”. Though right after the World Cup final, the boundary count rule was scraped, and now a Super Over is followed by a 2nd Super Over in case the first one ends in a tie.

Styris took a dig at the boundary count rule, pointing out that England had more corners in the game (5) than Italy (3). Hence the Harry Kane-led side should have been crowned champions.

Neesham also came up ??with a hilarious take on the whole event. He asked if the Euro 2020 final could be decided by counting the passes made by each team.

In reply, Ashwin went for the famous slogan of England football fans, making it clear that he wants the Harry Kane–led England to emerge champions.

In the semi-fin?al, England defeated Denmark by 2-1 and qualified for the final of the UEFA European Football Championship. They will meet Italy in the s??ummit clash and are just one step away from winning a major title trophy for the first time since 1966. The EURO Cup final will take place at Wembley Stadium in London on Monday (July 12).

Ashwin is currently in England for the upcoming five-match Test series against the home team. The first Test will start from the first week of August. Ashwin recently completed the first cycle of World Test Championship (WTC) 2019-21 as the leading wicket-taker. He took 71 scalps in this time period.

England defeated Germany 2-0 in the Round of 16 stage on Tuesday during the Euro 2020 that is currently underway. It was the first time in five and a half decades that the English side has managed to beat the mighty Germans in a football knockout clash. The players who scored the two goals were Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling.

With this win, England have reached the quarter-finals of the European Championship. England will now clash with  Ukraine in Glasgow next week..

Meanwhile, the England cricket team were also not far behind their exploits on the field when they trumped Sri Lanka by five wickets in the first ODI at Chester-le-Street on Tuesday.

Put in to bat first, Sri Lanka were all bundled out for a paltry 185 as Chris Woakes and David Willey barraged the opponent’s batting line-up.

In response, Joe Root registered a match-winning 79 off 87 balls in his ODI comeback as the Three Lions chased the target with 15.1 o?vers to spare.

Earlier, England had whitewashed Sri Lanka during the three-match T20I series.

After the Sri Lanka series, Eoin Morgan & Co. would compete with Pakistan in three ODIs and as many T20Is, following which the hosts will play a five-Test match series against India.
