Ahead of the second and final Test of the two-match series against New Zealand, England have added off-spinner Dom Bess ?to their squad. The second Test will take place from June 10-14 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

England’s first-choice spinner Jack Leach is already part of the squad, but under COVID protocols and difficult times, Bess has been added to provide cover for Leach. The 23-year-old represented Yorkshire in the ongoing County Championship 2021, where he has bagged 14 wickets from eight f??ixtures.

Bess arrived in Birmingham on Sunday night the day when England drew the first Test? against New Zealand at Lords Cri?cket Ground in London. After a couple of days of isolation and testing, he will be free to train with the rest of?? the English squad, i.e. on Wednesday.

“The reason we’ve added Dom is that any cover we may need has to be in here with us. If Jack was to feature, we would need back-up for him regarding concussion replacements and things like that,” said England’s head coach Chris Silverwood as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

“If we are looking at playing a spinner and Jack were to get injured leading into the game, then we will need someone else there as well. So it’s making sure we cover that. Are we expecting a spinning wicket? We will see when we get there, but I’m making sure we’ve got every base covered,” he added.

Silverwood further gave his reaction to England’s performance in the series opener against New Zealand, admitting that the lack of discipline forced them to pay the price.

“I felt we showed a lack of discipline at times, with shot management, and we paid the price for that. It’s something we addressed; we talked about in the dressing room. One thing I am keen for this team to do is to face problems and grab a difficult day,” Silverwood explained.

betvisa casinoDom Bess – Cricket Times - betvisa888 //betvisa68.com/2021/04/england-spinner-dom-bess-reveals-why-he-started-hating-cricket-after-a-tough-india-tour/ Sun, 25 Apr 2021 10:02:32 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=54644

England off-spinner Dom Bess is currently plying his trade for his county club Yorkshire in the ongoing County Championship 2021. On Saturday, he produced a phenomenal performance against Sussex?? at Hove, picking up his first fifer of the seaso?n.

After the incredible performance, Bess revealed how he ‘hated cricket’ after the challenging tour of India but reckoned that the lessons learned in the subcontinent would improve his bowling in the long run.

Bess was dropped after assisting England to victory in Chennai in February early this year. He returned to the team for the final Test in Ahmedabad but went wicketless in an innings defeat.

The offie then started focusing on County cricket and achieved success against Sussex. After the day’s end, Bess disclosed how he learned some tough lessons from the India tour.

“In India, in the bubble, everything was about cricket. And it’s fine when you’re going well, but it is very tough when things aren’t going well. But I only see what I had in India as a great positive. It’s been a tough time really, but one hell of a learning curves for me,” said Bess as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

“After India, I had a good break away from it because I really did start hating cricket. It got too much at times, certainly, in that bubble in India, there’s a lot of pressures going on, and it was really important for me to come back and get away from it,” he added.

The 23-year-old spinner asserted that he is paying all attention to Yorkshire and not focusing on pushing his case for a Test recall. Bess spoke about the support he received from English spin coach Jeetan Patel and teammate Jack Leech.

“In all honesty, I’m not thinking about [England] at all. Of course, it’s there, but I’m not pushing that. It’s about banking what I do, making sure it’s a long-term process. I’m 23, so I’m looking at four-five years, and what I do now – if the chance did come, I can go back into the international scene and know my game more.

“It’s more the trust and the process of that, trusting England that they’re not just going to throw me out, and it goes both ways. I had some really tough lessons in India. I had some great support from Jeetan [Patel] and Richard Dawson, with who I’m in regular contact. I’m in regular contact with Leachy [Jack Leach] as well. And I think it’s really important that you build that entourage because it’s not about yourself; it’s about the team, whether it’s England or Yorkshire,” Bess added further.

On Day 3 of the ongoing first Test between India and England at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara lost his wicket in an unusual manner.

It all happened in the 51st over of India’s innings, when Pujara got a half-pitched delivery from Dominic Bess. The right-handed batsman rocked onto his backfoot and connected a pull shot. However, the ball ricocheted off Ollie Pope’s shoulder, who was stationed at short leg and jumped straight into Rory Burns’s hands.

On-air commentator Nick Knight termed it as the most ‘unluckiest’ of dismissals.

“The most unluckiest of dismissals, via the body of Ollie Pope and it, just hung in the air, Rory Burns with a simple catch and it’s the last thing India needed. They worked so hard to get back into this game and a moment of luck for England and Dom Bess,” said Knight.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) reckoned the mode of Pujara’s dismissal as ‘unusual’.

“Pujara falls! An unusual dismissal, Pujara’s pull shot rebounding off the short leg fielder straight to Burns at short mid-wicket Astonished face India’s No.3 walks back for 73,” tweeted ICC.

At the end of day’s play, India have posted 257/6 on the board in reply of England’s 578. At one stage, India struggled for 73/4, but then Pujara and Rishabh Pant steadied the ship and formed a vit??al 119-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Both Pujara and Pant smashed half-centuries. While Pujara scored 73 runs off 143 balls, Pant contributed with 91 runs from 88 deliveries. The wicketkeeper-batsman missed out on a hundred?? by just nine runs. He slammed nine fours and five maximums.

Bess removed both Pujara and Pant to hollow India’s crucial recovery.

Earlier in the day, England added 23 runs to their overnight score of 555/8 before being bundled out on 578 in thei??r first innings?.

Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up three wickets each while Ishant Sharma and Shahbaz Nadeem bagged two scalps apiece for the home team.
