South African cricket legend AB de Villiers has weighed in on the decision by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to remove Aiden Markram as captain ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. The move comes afte?r SRH finished at the bottom of the points table in the previous season, prompting significant changes in leadership and coaching roles.

Pat Cummins appointed as captain

SRH made waves in the cricketing world by appointing current Australian skipper Pat Cummins as t?heir new captain. Cummins, who was acquired for a staggering INR 20.5 crore in the IPL 2024 auction, now holds the distinction of b??eing the second most expensive player in IPL history.

Aiden Markram’s recent success

Markram, who recently led SunRisers Easter?n Cape to their second consecutive SA20 title, found himself replaced a?s SRH captain despite his domestic success. Under his leadership, however, SRH struggled and finished at the bottom of the IPL 2023 points table.

AB de Villiers gives his take on the development

De Villiers expressed his disappointment at Markram’s removal as captain, acknowledging his leadership qualities and recent achievements in domestic cricket. De Villiers, a former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player, emphasize??d the importance of giving Markram more time to settle into his role? as captain.

“There’s reason for him (Pat Cummins) to be captain in that team, even though it’s a bit of a surprise to most people, a bit of an upset to me perhaps to see Aiden Markram being moved across and sort of just had to make way for Pat Cummins there, even though Aiden Markram has won back-to-back SA20 tournaments. I think he’s a fantastic captain, and they were just getting used to him as captain there at the SRH. So, it is disappointing to me, to him, and to all South African fans, but if it is for the best of the SRH team, then so be it,” said De Villiers on his YouTube channel.

Understanding SRH’s decision

Despite his disappointment, De Villiers understood SRH’s decision to appoint Cummins as captain, citing the Australian’s recent success in leading his national team to two ICC titles. De Villiers also recognized the influence of the Australian coaching staff, including head coach Daniel Vettori, on SRH’s decision-making process.

“It’s quite a surprise, but not a big surprise to me, thinking of the involvement of Daniel Vettori, who was with the Australian team. Also, we might see some involvement with Andrew McDonald. You just see a bit of an Australian flavour coming into that Sunrisers Hyderabad team,” added De Villiers.

The 20 year old wicketkeeper, Rishabh Pant played o?ne of the most entertaining innings by an Indian batsman in the shortest format of the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing Indian Premier Leag??ue (IPL) at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi on Thursday night.

However, Pant’s efforts went in vain as his side Delhi Daredevils lost to the visitors by 9 wickets. But he certainly received great appreciation across the world for playing a thunderous knock against the best bowling line-up in the tournament.

Pant smashed an unbeaten 128 off just 63 balls which included 15 fours and? seven sixes as Delhi Daredevils (DD) posted a total of 187 for five in ??their allotted 20 overs.

He has also become the second youngest player to ??score an IPL hundred and youngest to score 1000 runs in the Indian Premier League.

With 521 runs in 11 matches so far, Rishabh Pant also overtook KL Rahul of Kings XI Punjab to become the owner of the ‘Orange Cap’. His knock against the Sunrisers not just earned him praises from the cricketing fraternity but also from the Bollywood world.

‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ fame actress Nushrat Bharucha was in awe after watching Rishabh Pant’s innings. She took to Twitter to praise the Delhi lad for his superb knock.

So, it is an end of the road? for Delhi Daredevils (SS) in IPL 2018 as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clinched a thrilling victory over them on Saturday night.

It was a tough loss for Delhi Daredev?ils as they were in the game throughout the match but un?fortunately, lost in the crucial moment of the game and of course, the fielding department played a meaty role in the loss.

After put in to bat, Delhi lost the struggling Glenn Maxwell early but Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer helped them iron that glitch out and get them off to a good start. Shaw was dismissed for 65 and Iyer for 44 but Rashid Khan and Siddharth Kaul then pulled the breaks on the visitors’ innings. Vijay Shankar smashed 17 runs off the final over to set up a target of 165 for SRH to chase.

Sunrisers structured their way to the total much better than Delhi did. Shikhar Dhawan and Alex Hales got them off to a solid start and even after they were dismissed, Kane Williamson anchored the rest of the in??nings and ensured that the runs kept flowing despite there being a six-over period when they could not get a boundary.

In the later stage of the game, Yusuf Path??an accelerated the SRH innings and hosts won the matc?h with one ball to spare.
