Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) played a thrilling contest against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday (September 20).

Chasing 158, Kings needed 13 from the last over bowled by Stoinis. Mayank started the over with a six followed by a couple and a four, thereby equalling the score.

Now, the KL Rahul-led side required just one run to win off three balls. But in a significant twist, Punjab failed to score. The game went to the Super Over where DC successfully defeated KXIP.

For Punjab, Mayank Agarwal (89 off 60 balls) was their hero as he nearly took his team to victory. Similarly, for Delhi, Marcus Stoinis (21-ball 53) did wonders by firstly taking the score to 157/8 and then picking crucial wickets in the final over.

Before the game, West Indies speedster Sheldon Cottrell was given his IPL debut cap by Caribbean superstar Chris Gayle. Cottrell was bought for a whopping INR 8.5 crore by Punjab during the IPL 2020 auctions.

Gayle, who is known for his unique style, imitated Cottrell’s traditional ‘salute’ celebration while presenting the debut cap to the left-hander.

Here is the video:

In the match, Cottrell gave 24 runs in his quota of 4 overs. He picked up two wickets in the form of Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Gayle shows his moves on a Bhojpuri song

Albeit, Gayle didn’t play the first game, but there was no shortage in his enthusiasm. The Jamaican is widely popular for his dancing moves, and he again gave a glimpse of it while grooving at a popular Bhojpuri track.

KXIP have posted a video on their official Twitter handle in which the West Indies cricketer is showing his dance moves along with bowler Harpreet Brar. The video seems to be shot in the team bus and shows the relaxed and cheerful side of Gayle.

Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) played a cracker of a game on Sunday (September 20) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in Dubai.

Batting first, DC posted 157/8 on the scoreboard, thanks to a blistering knock from Marcus Stoinis (21-ball 53).

In reply, Mayank Agarwal smashed a brilliant 89 off 60 balls and nearly pulled the match before being dismissed by Stoinis in the final over.

The Australian all-rounder after impressing everyone with the willow showed his magic with the ball as well. He defended 13 runs in the last over to take the game into a Super Over where DC outshined KXIP comfortably.

Umpire’s error cost KXIP the match

There was a moment in the match which has created a buzz on social media. In the 19th over of KXIP run chase bowled by Kagiso Rabada, Mayank sliced away the full-toss and ran for a couple along with his partner Chris Jordan.

However, square leg umpire Nitin Menon declared it a short run and awarded only 1 instead of 2 runs to KXIP. Menon signalled that Jordan did not get his bat over the line while completing the first run.

Contrary to what the umpire had seen, the TV replays showed that Jordan legally completed the first run and his bat was well inside the crease. The result would’ve been different had the umpire not declared it a short run.

The umpire should have been Man of the Match: Virender Sehwag

After the game, several experts and fans expressed their outrage over the umpiring error.

Former India international Virender Sehwag didn’t waste time to react on the controversial decision. Viru took a dig at leg umpire and said he should have been awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ for calling the ‘short-run’.

“I don’t agree with the Man of the match choice. The umpire who gave this short run should have been Man of the match. Short Run nahin tha. And that was the difference,” Sehwag wrote on Twitter with a picture of Jordan’s legal run.

The former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) coach Tom Moody also gave his reaction on the blatant error in the DC versus KXIP match. Moody said that these kinds of mistakes have no place at a time where technology is available.

“This shouldn’t happen with the technology available. This was a line call like a no-ball, run out or stumping we can’t afford to have these errors influencing the outcome of matches in such a competitive tournament. #DCvKXIP” tweeted Moody.

Mayank Agarwal’s heroic knock (89) in the second game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 played between Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Delhi Capitals (DC) went in vain as Punjab lost the match in the Super Over.

Chasing 158 at the Dubai International Stadium, KXIP started terribly. They lost four wickets for just 35 runs. Albeit, the opening pair of KL Rahul (21) and Mayank took the team to 30 without a loss.

As soon as Mohit Sharma dismissed Rahul, it opened the floodgates. KXIP lost wickets at regular intervals, but Mayank held his wicket at one end.

Mayank took the game to the final over before he was dismissed at the second last ball of Punjab’s innings when the score was already tied. In the Super Over bowled by Kagiso Rabada, KXIP could score only two runs and lost both their wickets – Rahul and Nicholas Pooran. DC, meanwhile, chased it down comfortably.

Earlier, Capitals all-rounder Marcus Stoinis ripped apart the bowling of Punjab as he smashed a 20-ball half-century to help his side reach a competitive total of 157.

From 100/6 after 17 overs at one stage in their opening game, the Capitals added 57 runs in the final three overs. The chief architect of the destruction was Stoinis. He took KXIP bowlers to the cleaners with his 21-ball 53, including seven fours and three gigantic sixes.

The explosive knock of Stonis assisted DC to collect 44 runs from the last two overs. He mainly targeted the final over bowled by Chris Jordan, who conceded 30 runs. Apart from Stoinis, DC skipper Shreyas Iyer (39) and wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant (31) also contributed to the team’s total.

Shami registers his best bowling figures

Before the magnificent show of Stoinis, DC started their innings on a dreadful note. At 13, the Capitals lost their top three batsmen in the form of Shikhar Dhawan (0), Prithvi Shaw (5) and Shimron Hetmyer (7).

For Punjab, their paceman, Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers. He registered his best bowling figures in IPL by finishing with 3 for 15 in four overs. Shami’s previous best was 3/21, which came against Mumbai Indians (MI) last year.

In the 37th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, Kings XI Punjab posted a competitive total of 163 for seven against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium on Saturday.

Chasing 164 to win, the DC openers – Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw – started with a bang despite scoring just 1 run in the first over; they clubbed 24 runs in the next two overs. However, Shaw lost his wicket in the fourth over owing to a rocket throw from Mandeep.

Dhawan chipped the ball towards the covers and ran forward a bit. He then changed his mind and moved back to his crease, in the meantime, Mandeep hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end with Shaw left stranded.

Here’s the video:

Meanwhile, DC turned their poor home record with a convincing 5-wicket win over KXIP in Delhi. They reached 166/5 with two balls to spare. With the win, DC now have 12 points from 10 games and have moved one step closer to qualifying for the play-offs.

Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during the IPL 2019 match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday.

Ashwin’s team have been found to have violated the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences and since this is their first such offense in the ongoing season, the off-spinner has been fined Rs 12 lakh.

Ashwin is not the first captain to have been penalised for slow over-rates this season. Before him, Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians), Ajinkya Rahane (Rajasthan Royals) and Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore) have also incurred same punishment for the over-rate violation.

The current IPL season has also faced its fair share of criticism as more than a few matches have extended to well beyond the stipulated time.

The contest at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi finished seven minutes before midnight with two balls to spare.

At the Kotla, the hosts finally broke the jinx of not being able to win at home after half-centuries from Shikhar Dhawan and captain Shreyas Iyer helped them chase down the target 163.

The KXIP side has now lost three of their last four games and will face RCB on Wednesday, while the Delhi Capitals goes to Jaipur to face the Rajasthan Royals on Monday.

Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Shikhar Dhawan, on Saturday, came up with a hilarious response after Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin issued a ‘Mankad’ warning.

The incident took place at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium during 13th over of the second innings when Ashwin warned the southpaw for backing away. However, Dhawan decided to mock the off-spinner post the warning.

When Ashwin crossed the umpire to bowl his next delivery, Dhawan at the non-striker’s end started dancing and twisting albeit keeping his bat inside the crease.

On Friday, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli teased Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Sunil Narine with a funny play-acting. Earlier in the season, when Ashwin mankaded Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Jos Buttler in Jaipur, it gave rise to a huge controversy.

Here’s the video:

Chasing a target of 164 runs, Dhawan laid the foundation with a fluent 56 of 41 balls, while skipper Shreyas Iyer anchored it with an unbeaten 58 off 49 balls.

For KXIP, Chris Gayle hammered 69 runs off just 37 deliveries to take the score to 163/7 in 20 overs.

Delhi Capitals overseas player Colin Ingram pulled off a remarkable one-handed pull-back to dismiss Kings XI Punjab’s swashbuckling opening batsman Chris Gayle at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday.

In the 12th over of first innings, Gayle was batting on 69 and looked all set to score big. Attempting to hit his sixth six of the innings Gayle went after Delhi leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane.

However, the overspin on the ball got the toe end off Gayle’s bat and almost crossed the boundary rope at deep mid-wicket. But Ingram showed sensational fitness and poise to leap in the air and pull back the ball after it looked like it had gone for a maximum.

Since the momentum was taking him over the boundary, Ingram threw the ball inside to Axar Patel near long-on. The back hand flick was equally perfect as Axar completed the catch. Just the ball before that Lamichhane was hit for a monstrous 97-meter six by Gayle.
