The deadly disease Covid-19 has shocked the entire world and put fears amongst many. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared it a pandemic. Since then, many events belonging to various fields ??around the world have either been cancelled or postponed.

Several cricket series have been affected by ?the Coronavirus outbreak. The India vs South Africa One-Day International (ODI) series has bee?n postponed after the first game got washed away at Dharmsala.

The Chappell-Hadlee series between Australia and New Zealand was also cancelled after the first game held at Sydney Cricket Ground, where the hosts managed to defeat the visitors by 71 ru?ns. During the series, Aussie fast bowler Kane Richardson and Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson were quarantined for Coronavirus, but their tests came out as negative.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) till April 15 after the Indian government cancelled all visas except employm??ent and ??diplomatic ones till the same date.

BCCI has also suspended all remaining domestic games, including the Irani Cup, due?? to Coronavirus scare. The Irani Cup was supposed to start on March 18. Apart from this, many other domestic tournaments have been postponed by BCCI.

The Indian Board issued a press release and said:â€?#8221;In view of the ongoing Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) outbreak, the BCCI on Saturday announced that all matches of the Paytm Irani Cup, Senior Women’s One-Day Knockout, Vizzy Trophy, Senior Women’s One-Day Challenger, Women’s Under 19 One-Day knockout, Women’s Under 19 T20 League, Super League and knockout, Women’s Under 19 T20 Challenger Trophy, Women’s Under 23 knockout, Women’s Under 23 One-Day Challenger have been put on hold till further notice.”

New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson, who was placed under isol??ation amids??t fear of COVID-19, has been cleared after being tested negative.

The right-arm pacer had complained of the sore throat after the completion of the first One-Day International (ODI) between New Zealand and Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday (Mar?ch 13).

In the match, Australia managed ?to defeat Kiwis and led the three-match series of Chappell-Hadlee Trophy 1-0. However, now the series has been postponed due to coron?avirus scare.

Ferguson will fly to New Zea?land from Sydney on Sunday. At the ??same time, the rest of the BlackCaps squad will leave Australia on Saturday night as the New Zealand government imposed a lockdown due to the outbreak of deadly disease.

“In accordance with recommended health protocols, Lockie Ferguson has been placed in isolation at the team hotel for the next 24hrs after reporting a sore throat at the end of the first ODI,” a statement read in NZC.

“Once the Test results are received and diagnosed, his return to the team can be determined,” the statement further read.

During the game, Ferguson pi??cked up two wickets for 60 runs in nine o?vers.

In the thick of the Coronavirus outbreak, Australia and New ?Zealand played first One-Day International (ODI) of Chappell-Hadlee trophy on Friday at Sydney Cricket Ground but in front of empty stands.

Th??e Aaron Finch-led side opted to bat first and posted 258-7 in 50 overs. Skipper Finch remained the highest scorer (67), while David Warner contributed with 60. Marnus Labushagne (56) smashed his first ODI half-century in Australia.

Chasing 259,  New Zealand could only reach 187 and lost the contest by 71 runs. Martin Guptill contributed with the most??????????????????????????? 40 runs, followed by Tom Latham with 38.

Aussie bowlers bowled brilliantly and helped their side to defend the low score. Pace duo of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Marsh grabbed three wickets each, whereas Josh Hazlewood picked up two. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa bagged a couple of scalps.

Apart from excellent bowling, Australia exhibited outstanding fielding as well. During the match, former Aussie captain Steve Smith grabbed a stunner to dismiss Guptill.

It all happened in the 23rd over of Kiwi run-chase. Guptill tried to slice the delivery bowl?ed by Cummins through the backward point region to gain some quick runs. But Smith, who was positioned there, had some other plans. The 30-year-old dived to his left to grab a screamer.

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni was known for the proper utilization of the Decisio?n Review System (DRS) technique in cricket. However, unlike him, current skipper Virat Kohli is widely mocked for his poor use of the DRS method.

For those who aren’t aware, DRS is a technology-based system used in cricket to assist the match officials with their decision-making. On-field umpires may choose to consult with the third umpire, and players may request the third umpire to review the on-field umpires’ decision.

Just like Kohli, New ?Zealand captain Kane Williamson also had a weak history with respect to DRS choices, and he showed it again in t??he ongoing One-Day International (ODI) game against Australia in Sydney.

During their opening contest of the three-match series, the BlackCaps wasted two opportunities to send Australian captain Aaron Finch back to the pavilion. Finch went on to score 60 runs and added a crucial 124-run stand with David Warner (67). However, the situation could’ve been different had New Zealand reviewed not one but two decisions.

In both cases, Finch was clearly out, but Kiwi skipper Williamson strangely decided not to use the DRS. The first instance took place in the 3rd over of Australia innings when Trent Boult bowled a bouncer to which Finch tried a pull shot, ?but in an attempt of doing so, it carried a top edge which went straight into the hands of wicket-keeper Tom Latham.

There were appeals made; however, it was turned down by the on-field umpire. Williamson didn’t challenge the decision, but during the replay, it showed a big spike on ‘UltraEdge’ when the ball went past the bat.

As if this wasn’t enough, Finch was given another lifeline as during the 13th over the right-handed batsman was struck on pads by spinner Mitchell Santner. The left-armer, along with his teammates, appealed but the umpire stayed unmoved.

Williamson and Santner did have a chat, and the Kiwi leader decided not to review the decision. Yet again, the replay showed that Finch was a goner. During the rerun, it showed that the delivery hit the pad first. The ball tracking then showed three reds as?? it was going to hit the leg-stump. Fin??ch was on 23 at that moment.

The entire world is suffering from Coronavirus outbreak as the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared it as a pandemic. Meanwhile, Australia paceman Kane Richardson has been tested for COVID-19, and that’s why he missed the opening One-Day International (ODI) game of the three-match series against New Zealand on Friday in Sydney.

Richardson reported a mild sore throat on Thursday a?nd is being quarantined with the results still pending. New South Wales bowler Sean Abbott has joined the squad as cover for Richardson.

“Our medical staff are treating this as a typical throat infection, but we are following Australian Government protocols that require us to keep Kane away from other members of the squad and perform the appropriate tests given he has returned from international travel in the last 14 days,” a Cricket Australia spokesperson said as quoted by cricket.com.au.

“Once we receive the results of the tests and Kane recovers in the next few days, we expect he will re-join the team. We will not be making further comment until something changes,” spokesperson added.

Cricket Australia also announced that the ongoing series will be played in front of empty stands.

As per media reports, the deadly disease was first noticed in China’s Wuhan and has since spread worldwide. More than 127,000 people have been infected with Coronavirus, with over 4,700 having died and 68,000 recovered.
