India’s premier domestic cricket tournament, the Ranji Trophy, has undergone a revamp for the 2024-25 season. The new format introduces a promotion and relegation system to enhance competition and provide opportunities for teams to move between divisions.

Promotion and Relegation System

A ?key aspect of this season is the introduction of the promotion and relegation system:

Promotion: The two finalists from the Plate group will b??e promoted to the Elite category for? the 2025�?6 season.

Relegation: The two ?lowest-performing teams from the Elite groups, based on their points and quotient, will be relegated to the Plate category for the following season.

The 90th edition of the Ranji Trophy will kickstart on October 11 and continue till March 2025.

Continuing his rich vein of form, Maharashtra opener Ruturaj Gaikwad on Tuesday smashed his fourth century in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2021-2?2, making a strong case for selection in the Indian team for the upcomin?g three-match ODI series against the hosts South Africa.

Ruturaj, who is also the captain of Maharashtra, slammed 168 off 13??2, with the help of 12 fours and six sixes against Chandigarh at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.

Earlier in the tournament, the 24-year-old scored 124 off 129 against Kerala, 136 from just 112 balls against Madhya Prad??esh, and 154 in 143 balls against Chattisgarh.

Gaikwad also became the first player to complete 600 runs to the current VHT, and with every passing game, he is making his case even stronger for the South Africa tour. He is one of the top contenders to replace out of form Shikhar Dhawan.
