Australian explosive opener Travis Head has clarified his stance on franchise cricket, expressing a clear focus on representing his national team and maintaining a balanced schedule. Head emphasized that apart from playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he h?as no intention of participating in other franchise leagues.

Travis Head: “IPL is the only franchise league I’ll play”

Head stated that he will not participate in franchise cricket outside of the IPL and Big Bash League. He emphasized prioritizing rest and Test cricket, acknowledging the difficulty of balancing multiple tournaments like Major League Cricket (MLC) or The Hundred. Head values the oppo??rtunity to rest during the current tour and remains focused on contributing to Test cricket as his ??top priority.

I won’t play franchise cricket other than IPL. Big Bash will be the third team I play for, so I won’t play anything other than that at this stage, and I think that gives me the opportunity to have that time off. It’s pretty hard to have those eight days off and then play MLC in a couple of months?time or the Hundred. So I understand that and I’m very lucky to have those seven days off on this tour and Test cricket’s the most important thing at the moment for us as a group. So I want to put as much effort as I can into that,” Head said to the reporters ahead of the first Test against Sri Lanka.

Head’s IPL success and contributions in various franchise

Head showcased his batting prowess in the IPL while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). In the last edition, he delivered a stellar performance, amas?sing 567 runs in 15 matches. His campaign included four half-centuries and a century, earning him the title of the fourth-highest run-scorer of the t??????????????????????????ournament.

Head also represents the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League, though scheduling conflicts prevented him from playing in BBL|14. The overlap with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, where Head excelled as Australia’s leading run-scorer with 448 runs in five matches, kept him out of the domestic T20 league. Head’s franchise success extends to Major League Cricket, where he plays for Washington Freedom. In the previous edition, he tied with teammate Steve Smith as the second-highest run-scorer, tallying 336 runs in nine matches. Despite his achievements, Head’s decision to scale back his participation reflects his desire to manage?? workload and focus on key commitments.

Two in two: Meredith’s bowling brilliance continues

Meredith’s brilliance continued as he claimed another wicket in the 19th over. This time, it was Oliver Davies, who succumbed to the mounting pressure. George Garton’s screamer shatters Sydney Sixers’ hopes

The 13th over of the Sixers’ innings witnessed a breathtaking fielding display by Garton, which left the crowd in awe. Tom Andrews bowled to Henriques, and the ball was slightly short and wide of off. Henriques, looking to capitalize on the delivery, attempted a back-foot punch, but he sent the ball high and to the left of cover. It was traveling at speed, and it seemed destined to land for a boundary. However, Garton threw himself to his left, diving with both hands, but miraculously managed to snare it one-handed. The stunning catch not only ended Henriques’s knock at 29 ru?ns (off 30 balls), but it also dealt a huge blow to the Sixers?chase.

Here is the video:

Andrews was the key figure with the ball, claiming two crucial wickets in the same over. After dismissing Henriques, Andrews struck again to remove Lachlan Shaw for a duck. The delivery was slower and wider off, prompting Shaw to lean forward for a drive. However, he mistimed the shot and lobbed a simple catch to Thunder captain David Warner at cover. The ball was pushed away from Dwarshuis’s hitting zone, and he reached out for a swipe, b?ut mistimed the shot, sending it high into the air. Weibgen, stationed at deep mid-wicket, sprinted forward, dived, and held onto the catch with both hands. It was a fantastic piece of fielding, and Garton had claimed his first wicket of the night, sending Dwarshuis back for 30 runs (off 20 balls).

Sam Billings?match-winning knock guides Sydney Thunder to the final

In the Eliminator match of the Big Bash League (BBL) | 14, Sydney Thunder defeated Melbourne Stars by 21 runs at the Sydney Showground Stadium, securing their place in the upcoming Challengers match. With a brilliant performance from Nathan McAndrew, who claimed five wickets, Thunder sealed a hard-fought win and advanced to face Sydney Sixers for a spot in the final.

Sydney Thunder’s decent total in a reduced overs contest

Melbourne Stars won the toss and elected to bowl first, a decision they hoped would work in their favor given the conditions. However, the game was reduced to 19 overs per side due to bad weather and lightning delays. Sydney Thunder managed to post a modest total of 135/7, a score they hoped would be competitive. Sydney Thunder’s innings was built around solid contributions from Matthew Gilkes and Oliver Davies. Gilkes score 28 runs off 18 balls, hitting 3 fours and 1 six. Davies played a steady knock, scoring 36 off 35 balls with ?2 fours and 1 six. Despite the late flurry of wickets, Thunder’s total of 135/7 was a challenging one, considering ??the weather-affected conditions.

The Melbourne Stars’ bowling attack was led by Tom Curran and Usama Mir, both of whom picked up two wickets each. Meanwhile, veteran Peter Siddle, captain Marcus Stoinis, and Doug Warren each claimed one wicket. Despite the best efforts of the?? bowlers, the Stars couldn’t quite contain Thunder’s lower order, and the target of 136 proved to be a tough one to chase.

Nathan McAndrew’s heroic bowling steers Thunder to victory

Chasing 136, Melbourne Stars struggled from the outset. They were soon reduced to 114 all out in just 18 overs, fal??li?ng short by 21 runs. Glenn Maxwell was the top scorer for the Stars, contributing 28 runs off 21 balls with 3 fours and 1 six. However, a flurry of wickets halted their progress, and they could not build partnerships to threaten Thunder??s total.

McAndrew delivered a match-winning performance with a career-best 5/16, the best bowling figures by a Sydney Thunder player in BBL history. His performance was the standout moment of the game, and he was deservedly named Player of the Match. Alongside McAndrew, Tanveer Sangha and Tom Andrews each took two wickets, with Chris Green adding a crucial scalp to his name as well. With the victory, Sydney Thunder secured their place in the Challengers match, where they will face Sydney Sixers in a crucial encounter to decide who will meet the Hobart Hurricanes in the final.

In the eliminator match of the Big Bash League (BBL) | 14 between Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars, fans at the Sydney Showground Stadium were treated to some unforgettable moments in the first innings of the game. Among the standout events of the game was a special celebration by Melbourne Stars spinner Doug Warren after taking the crucial wicket of Sydney Thunder’s wicketkeeper-batter Sam Billings.

Doug Warren’s ice-cold celebration

The wicket came in the 12th over of the Sydney Thunder innings. Warren, with his sharp spin, delivered a pivotal moment when he dismissed Billings for 24 runs (off 25 balls). Billings, who had been the set batter for Thunder, was crucial for his side, and his dismissal was a blow to their hopes of posting a substantial total. It was the reverse sweep that led to Billings’ downfall.

Despite making good contact with the ball, he inadvertently hit it straight to Tom Curran, stationed at deep b??ackward point. The catch was well-executed by Curran, who took a low catch without any fuss. Billings?departure left the Thunder reeling as the Stars celebrated their breakthrough. Billings?score included four boundaries, but it was not enough to keep him in the middle longer.

Tom Curran’s early strike: David Warner goes for a duck

Earlier in the match, Melbourne Stars bowler Curran made his mark in the very first over of the Thunder innings. The Stars had an ideal start when David Warner, one of the biggest threats in the Thunder lineup, was dismissed for a duck. Warner, known for his aggressive style, was caught by skipper Marcus Stoinis afte?r attempting a cut sho??t off Curran’s delivery.

The ball appeared to have stopped on Warner, leaving him unable to control the shot, which went straight into the hands of S?toinis at cover. The early wicket of Warner sent shockwaves through the Thunder camp, and the Stars were ecstatic to have gotten rid of such a dangerous player so quickly. It was an inspired decision fro??m the Stars?management to have Curran bowl the first over, a move that paid immediate dividends.

Curran strikes again

As the Thunder tried to recover, Curran returned to bowl in the 18th over, this time striking once more to dismiss Oliver Davies for 36 (off 35 balls). Davies had played a key role in keeping the Thunder’s innings alive with two boundaries and a six, but his departure came at a crucial juncture.

Curran bowled a clever back-of-the-hand slower ball, which dipped on a full length and completely deceived Davies. Unaware of the slower delivery, Davies went for a lofted shot but mistimed it, sending the ball straight to long-off, where Peter Handscomb made no mistake in completing the catch.
