Manoj Tiwary, the renowned cricketer from India and Bengal, bid adieu to his professional cricket career on Sunday, February 18th, amidst the final fixture of the Ranji Trophy 2024 against Bihar. The occasion was marked with heartfelt tributes from his team and the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), with former India captain Sourav Ganguly gracing the farewell ceremony to honor Tiwary’s contributions to the sport.

Regrets and reflections on the international stage

In the wake of his retirement, Tiwary candidly shared his reflections on his international cricket journey, expressing regret over certain aspects of his career. Notably, he raised questions about his abrupt exclusion from th?e national team, particularly after a commendable century against West Indies in Chennai.

Manoj Tiwary raised concerns over MS Dhoni’s decision

Tiwary’s disappointment was palpable as he questioned MS Dhoni and the rationale behind his exclusion from the playing XI in 2011, despite his noteworthy performance. The Bengal cricketer lamented that he possessed the potential to achieve greatness akin to stalwarts like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli but was denied the opportunity to showcase his capabilit?ies fully.

‘I would like to ask Dhoni why was I dropped from the playing XI in 2011 after scoring the century? I had the potential to be a hero just like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli but could not be. Today, when I see many people getting more opportunities on TV, I feel sad,” said Tiwary in an interview with News18.

Tiwary’s international career saw him represent India in 12 ODIs, where he amassed 287 runs at an average of 26.09, including a memorable century. Additionally, he featured in three T20Is but fell short of leaving a significant mark in the shortest format of the game.

The Test cap dilemma

Tiwary’s reflections also touched upon his unfulfilled aspiration of donning the Test cap for India. Despite a stellar first-class record, boasting an average of around 65, Tiwary found himself overlooked in favor of other contenders, leaving him disheartened and questioning the selectors’ decisions.

“I did not get the Test cap for India. When I had completed playing 65 first-class matches, my batting average was around 65. The Australia team had toured India then, and I had scored 130 in a friendly game, then I scored 93 against England in a friendly game. I was very close, but they picked Yuvraj Singh instead. So not getting a Test cap and dropping me for 14 matches after I scored a century…when confidence is at its peak and someone destroys that, it tends to kill that player,” added Tiwary.

Career highlights

His accomplishments place him behind stalwarts like Cheteshwar Pujara and Wasim Jaffer, and notably ahead of cricketing icon Sachin Tendulkar in the domestic arena.

Retirement decision and U-turn

betvisa loginBengal – Cricket Times - betvisa888 //betvisa68.com/2022/07/wriddhiman-saha-gets-noc-from-cricket-association-of-bengal-to-switch-state/ Sun, 03 Jul 2022 03:24:07 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=64429

Indian wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has parted ways with Bengal – his team in the domestic circuit – after a public fallout with a state association official. He has obtained a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to join the Tripura team.

The Saha-CAB issue came to light, particularly after the association’s joint secretary Debabrata Das publicly questioned his commitment to State cricket. Saha, who debuted for Bengal back in 2007, had expressed his disappointment to see pe?ople raising questions about hi?s integrity.

“For me, too, it is a very sad feeling that I have to go through something like this after playing for Bengal for so long. It is disappointing that people make such comments and question your integrity. As a player, I had never faced such a thing in the past, but now that it has happened, even I need to (move on),” Saha had said.

Notably, the possibility of Saha joining Tripura was making rounds in the domestic circuit for some time. Meanwhile, the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA)? mentioned that Saha would be the mento??r-cum-captain of the team.

“We (both TCA and Saha) have come to an agreement, in principle, on this matter. The details will be finalised next week when he comes to Agartala. Yesterday (Friday, July 1), we had an Apex Council meeting, and the members had a video-conferencing with him. The association is unanimous that Saha will be a good pick as a professional for the state. It will be the 35th year in our Ranji Trophy. We have not had a player from Tripura in the Indian team. That is our main target apart from doing well,” said Kishore Das of the TCA, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Saha has so far played 122 first-class matches, in which he has scored 6423 runs at an average of 41.98. The right-handed batter has smashed 13 hundreds and 38 half-centuries. When it comes to Test cricket, Saha has pl??ayed 40 matches and made 1353 runs at an average close to 30.

Saha also had a tremendous season for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The veteran stumper scored 317 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 122.39 for Gujarat, who went on to clinch the trophy in their maiden season.

Senior Indian wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha broke his silence on his future regarding the domestic circuit. Confirming that he won’t represent Bengal in the current edition despite being selected in the squad for the knockout stage, Saha said he is in talks with multiple associations but hasn’t finalised his destination yet.

Notably, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) tried its level best but could not change Saha’s mind. The veteran stumper was annoyed with the comments made by a CAB official questioning the right-hander’s commitment to Bengal cricket last year.

Saha, who debuted for Bengal back in 2007, said he was ‘very sad’ to take this decision after playing for the state for nearly 15 years. The 37-year-old stated that it is always disappointing to see people raising questions about your integrity. Saha said he had never faced such a thing in the past and now has made up his mind to not play for Bengal.

“For me, too, it is a very sad feeling that I have to go through something like this after playing for Bengal for so long. It is disappointing that people make such comments and question your integrity. As a player, I had never faced such a thing in the past, but now that it has happened, even I need to (move on),” said Saha, as quoted by Sportstar.

“Since I had made up my mind that I won’t play for Bengal, I had informed (the Cricket Association of Bengal president Avishek Dalmiya) over the phone. But I will meet him in person and finalise the formalities. I have spoken to a lot of people, but no decision has been taken yet. There is still time left for next season?#8221; added Saha.

Saha has represented Bengal in 122 first-cla?ss matches and has scored 6423 ru?ns with the help of 13 hundreds and 38 half-centuries. The Shaktigarh-born cricketer has also played 102 List A games for Bengal, in which he has scored 2762 runs, including two tons and 19 fifties.

Perhaps the best wicketkeeper in the country presently, Wriddhi??man Saha, reflected on the current crisis which has plagued the sporting world currently, the COVID-19 pandemic.

The coronavirus outbreak ?forced all cricketing action to be suspended, canceled, or postponed. For Saha, it is his li?fe and family which comes first.

The thi?rteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has also been postponed till April 15, which was initially scheduled to commen??ce from March 29.

Saha affirmed? that no one has a choice but to wait for the pandemic to die down, before?? the resumption of all sporting activities.

“Life and family come first. Then you can talk about sport. We all sacrifice a lot for the game, but eventually, if a lot of people are hampered, that is not necessary,” Saha stated during his interaction with IANS.

“So, we need to take appropriate precautions. For the time being, we all have to wait, and when the situation gets better, we all will look to do well in the IPL,” added Saha.

The Ranji Trophy Finals of 2018-19 just managed to conclude in time before the virus rea??ched the shores of India.

Bengal came heart-wrenchingly close in their first appearance in the domestic league finals since the 2006-07 season. However, it was Cheteshwar Pujara’s Saurashtra team, which won their maiden Ranji Trophy title.

Saha, who took part in the finals representing Bengal, revealed that the game was even until the final day. But early wick?ets on Day 4 cost them the game.

“Bengal played so well throughout the season. They won tough games en-route to the final. I would have loved to win the Ranji Trophy with Bengal. But it’s a sport. Till the fifth day, it was a 50-50 match. But we lost early wickets on the fifth day, so it became tough for us,” concluded Saha.

The last year runner-ups Saurashtra won the 2019-20 season of Ranji Trophy. In eight years, Saurashtra has qualified in four fin??als, and finally, the day came when they lifted their maiden Ranji Trophy ??title.

A big credit goes to Saurashtra captain Jaydev Unadkat who led his side from the front. The left-arm pacer had an unbelievable tournament. He grabbed 67 wickets in the competition ?second highest in a single season by any bowl?er in the history of Ranji Trophy.

During the semi-final game against Gujarat, Unadkat etched his name in record books after he broke a 21-year-old record for most wickets by a fast bowler in a single season. Unadkat surpassed Karnataka’s Dodda Ganesh, who previously held this record when he claimed 62 scalps in the 1998-99 season.

In the match against Bengal, Saurashtra posted 425 in their first innings with Arpit Vasavada smashing a brilliant century. Opener ??Avi Barot and No.3 batsman Vishvaraj Jadeja scored 54 each. Experienced Cheteshwar Pujara also joined the party and played a vital knock of 66 runs.

In response, Bengal got all out for 381, with Sudip Chatterjee (81) scoring the most runs. Wriddhiman Saha contributed well with 64 off 184 balls, followed by Anustup M?ajumdar (63 off 151 balls). Arnab Nandi (40) too, played a handy knock ?down the order.

In the second innings, Saurashtra posted 105-4 in 34 overs when the match ended in a draw.? However, Saurashtra won the trophy on the? basis of a first-innings lead.

For his outstanding ton, Vasavada was honored with the ‘Player of the Match’ award.

The ongoing Ranji Trophy finals between Saurashtra and Bengal at the SCA Stadium in Rajkot already had its fair share of controversy with a life-less pitch on offer.

Moreover, another instance from the finals raised q?uite a few eyebrows as only a single umpire is officiating fro?m both ends.

During play on Day 1, umpire Chettithody Shamsuddin was hit on the lower abdomen area, after one of the fielders?? passed the ball post dismissal of the batsman. The injury to the umpire forced him to remain out of action in the first session of Day 2.

It meant that KN Ananthapadmanabhan? had to officiate from both ends in the match, while Piyush Kak??kar stood at square leg throughout the entirety.

Due t??o the various responsibilities of the third umpire, Sundaram Ravi was not able to deploy himself on the ground.

According to the laws of domestic cricket in India, only two umpires are deployed for officiating the match. The third um?pire plays the dual role of match referee as well as the controllers of six cameras overlooking the game for DRS? appeals.

As opposed to the role of the fourth ump?ire in the international game, when an umpire is injured or feels unhealthy, the liaison officer for umpires and match referee replaces them. These are usually local umpir??es on the ground deployed by State Association.
