In the electrifying Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, cricket enthusiasts were treated to a plethora of outstanding performances, both from individual players and teams alike. In the final of the cash-rich league, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured their third title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

KKR, who were asked to bowl first in the match, dominated SRH batters with their pace attack and restricted the team led by Pat Cummins to a below-par total of 113 runs in 18.3 overs. In response, Knight Riders easily chased the target, reaching it in just 10.3 overs wi?th 8 wickets in hand.

After the conclusion of the final clash, players were lauded for their exceptional contributions throughout the tournament and were honoured with various titles and substantial cash prizes. Among the most prestigious accolades was the Player of the Match (POTM) award, given to the player who made the greatest contribution on the field during the game. Notably, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc was named as the winner of this award for this season for his impressive spell of 3-0-14-2. While Yusuf Pathan clinched this award in the inaugural season of IP??L.

Across the history of the lucrative league, many players have showcased exceptional performances for their respective franchises in the final match, earning them the esteemed POTM award. It’s fascinating to note that each IPL final has seen a different recipient of the Man of the Match honour. Notably, only 4 bowlers, Starc, Anil Kumble, Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult, have claimed this award. Furthermore, Kumb??le holds the distinction of being the sole player from the losing side to have received this accolad??e.

On Sunday, during the match between Sydney Thunders and Sydney Sixers, Ben Cutting took an amazing catch to dismiss James Vince in the 34th game of the Big Bash League 2022-23.

Thunders’ batting first posted a total of 133 in the allotted 20 overs. Whereas in reply Sixers went on to win the match by seven wickets and 22 balls remaining.

Cutting while fielding for thunders in the second inning took a flying catch?? at the boun?dary to send opponent opener Vince to the pavilion.

In the second ball of the third over, Brendan Doggett of Thunders bowled an outside-the-off stump delivery to Vince, on which the Sixers’ opener tried to smash an off-side boundary. The ball was going with a rocket speed, and it almost seemed a six until Ben Cutting emerged from nowhere and pulled off the stunner.

Ben judged the ball perfectly and dived full length to his right to get hold of the ball and was later seen cele??brating.

It was an important wicket for Thunders as Vince ??h?ad scored an unbeaten 91 against the Melbourne Stars in his last match.

Here’s the video:

Apart from this, the Thunders all-rounder also played a quick cameo in th?e first inn??ing and scored 26 off 15 balls with five fours. He also bowled 4 overs and gave away just 14 runs, but his effort went in vain, as the Stars lost the game.

A hilarious incident took place during the 20th match of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2021-22.

Sydney Thunder all-rounder Ben Cutting suffered a brain-fade moment on the field during the Sydney Sixers’ innings.

On the fourth ball of the 16th over – the final over of the innings in a rain-shortened fixture – where the Thunder quick Nathan McAndrew bowled a sharp yorker to Christian after having erred with a no-ball on the previous ??deliv??ery.

Christian hit the ball straight into the hands of Cutting, who was fielding on the offside inside the 30?-yard circle. Cutting threw the ball in air, presuming a caught dismissal. He completely forgot that it was a free-hit delivery.

In the meantime, Christian and Jordan Silk completed a double and were seen bursting into laughter on the scenes that unfolded, while ??Cutting looked dejected with himself. Seeing the two batters laugh, even the commentators joined in th?e fun.

Here’s the video:

As far as the result of the match is concerned, the Sixers defeated the Thunder by 30 runs in the Sydn??ey d??erby.

Batting first, the Sixers posted 168/4 on the board in their allotted 16 overs. Top-order batter Daniel Hughes played a blistering knock o??f 50 runs from 26 balls.

Chasing a revised target of 173, the Chris Green-led side got bundled out for 142 in 15.1 overs. Jason Sangha?? top-scored for the Thunder with a ?whirlwind 30-ball 47.

For the Sixers, left-arm pacer Hayden Kerr returned with impressive figures of 3/29.
