The Kraigg Brathwaite-led West Indies beat Bangladesh by 17 runs in the second Test at Dhaka’s Shere Bangla National Stadium to complete a 2-0 series sweep.

“Boys stuck to their plans, they were very disciplined.

“Cricket means everything to us. People will be proud. People wrote us off but we kept it simple, enjoyed it, and we proved them wrong,” he added.

Debutant Kyle Mayers’ maiden double century powered West Indies to an impressive three-wicket win over Bangladesh in the first Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Sunday. The middle-order batsman remained unbeaten on 210 after facing 310 deliveries.

Meanwhile, this is the highest successful chase in Asia in the history of Test cricket.

Chasing a mammoth 395 to take 1-0 lead in the two-match series, the visitors seemed to be in a spot of bother by losing their top-order inside the three-figure mark. The middle-order duo of Mayers and Nkrumah Bonner then added 116 runs for the fourth-wicket partnership before the latter was dismissed for 86.

The Kraigg Brathwaite-led side did lose a couple of wickets after Boner’s dismissal but the 28-year-old Mayers kept fighting on from the other end as he took the Bangladesh bowlers to the cleaners. In the end, his efforts paid off as the Men in Maroon did the unthinkable in the final session of play.

Bangladesh thrashed West Indies by 7 wickets in the second ODI to take a comprehensive 2-0 lead in the three-match series on Friday.

The home team’s bowling unit produced a phenomenal performance against visitors to guide their side to a comfortable win at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

Hasan dismissed opener Kjorn Ottley (24), Joshua Da Silva (5), Rovman Powell (41), Raymon Reifer (2) to pick four wickets in 9.4 overs.

Apart from Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman (2/15) and Shakib Al Hasan (2/30) picked up two wickets each. Hasan Mahmud (1/54) also claimed one scalp.

Playing his first international fixture after a one-year suspension, veteran Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan shined with the ball in the first One-Day International (ODI) against West Indies at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Shakib picked up four wickets for eight runs in his international comeback to guide Bangladesh to a comprehensive 6-wicket victory over West Indies.

Debutant pacer Hasan Mahmud also impressed with the white leather, bagging 3/28 as the hosts bowled out a relatively weak visiting side for 122 in 32.2 overs.

Bowling all-rounder Kyle Mayers was the highest scorer for the visitors with 40 off 56 deliveries including 4 fours and a six.

Apart from Mayers, senior cricketer Rovman Powell made a valuable contribution of 28 from 31 balls.

Chasing a paltry target of 123 was not going to be difficult for the home team and precisely what happened. Skipper Tamim Iqbal top-scored with 44 off 69 balls to take his side over the finish line.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad were unbeaten on 19 and 9 runs respectively to complete the win.

For the visitors, left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein was the most successful bowler, claiming 3/26 in 10 overs.

Even though the West Indies beat Bangladesh by 50 runs in the third T20I to clinch the series 2-1, cricketer experts and fans on Twitter were rather unhappy that a close decision didn’t go in the visitors’ favour.

It was the final delivery of the fourth over of Bangladesh’s chase, when Oshane Thomas had Liton Das caught at mid-off, only to be called a no-ball by umpire Tanvir Ahmed.

Replays showed that the umpire was wrong in his judgement, as Thomas’ foot was behind the popping crease.

Windies skipper Carlos Brathwaite seemed livid on watching it on the big screen, and insisted on using the DRS to review it. After animated discussions, the umpires allowed him to take it upstairs, and umpire Ahmed, after discussion on his walkie-talkie, signalled Das out as well.

However, the fourth umpire and match referee Jeff Crowe were quick to step in, calling Brathwaite to the boundary for another discussion, this time joined by the Windies team management and Bangladeshi skipper, Shakib Al Hasan, following which Das was reinstated and a free-hit was signalled.

The commentator on-air, Gautam Bhimani, soon cleared the air on the matter reading out a statement from the third umpire, which stated that “the very fact that the onfield umpire called a no ball is the decision of the onfield umpire and has to be accepted as an error and CANNOT be reviewed”.

Windies skipper Carlos Brathwaite lost his composure and cool as he was seen having an animated discussion with the on-field umpires after a controversial decision during the third and final T20I between Bangladesh and West Indies in Dhaka.

While officiating in an international match, local umpire Tanvir Ahmed called Windies pacer Oshane Thomas deliveries no-ball when his foot was well inside the line.

It was surprising to see the standard of umpiring which has nothing less than shoddy.

In the final ball of the fourth over by Oshane Thomas, Liton Das mistimed the ball and the fielder took a simple catch. On-field umpire gave it not-out and called it a no-ball. Meanwhile, Brathwaite and the other Windies players weren’t satisfied with the decision and felt that the ball was legal and Das was wrongly given not-out.

Immediately after, Brathwaite asked for the Decision Review System (DRS) and it was sent upstairs to third umpire Gazi Sohel. Replays showed that Thomas’ foot landed inside the bowling crease and he was indeed out. The decision was reversed, but the batsman stood his ground.

In the meantime, Brathwaite lost his cool and was seen having a heated conversation near the boundary ropes. Then, Jeff Crowe, the match referee came down to solve the matter. Even Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan came out to have a chat, wearing his helmet.

As per the law, one can use the DRS for a mode of dismissal, but in this scenario, the decision was reviewed for the call of no-ball to be overturned. The decision eventually stood and the batsman got a much-needed reprieve.

During the second T20I between Bangladesh and West Indies played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, the tourist’s opener Evin Lewis could have been dismissed in the first over of the innings, but DRS saved him after a poor decision was made by the on-field umpire.

Lewis completely missed a fullish delivery bowled by Bangladeshi pacer Abu Hider Rony. Umpire gave him out after the bowler and slip fielders appealed in unison thinking the ball had hit the batsman’s pad. Umpire too raised his finger soon and gave Lewis LBW out.

Seeing Lewis walking back, his batting partner Shai Hope decided to show objection on the decision. When reviewed, it turned out to be an umpiring howler. The ball didn’t even touch the pad instead it was hitting the bat.

Evin Lewis DRS

The third umpire quickly asked the on-field umpire to change his decision and the bizarre dismissal of Lewis was avoided.

West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell has produced what could be the worst delivery of all time.

The left-armer was opening the bowling against Bangladesh when he unleashed the wild ball, which went straight to second slip on the full, stunning onlookers and leaving commentators perplexed.

Sheldon Cottrell all-time horror delivery

“Goodness me,” one commentator said. “I have not seen this before.”

The 28-year-old bowler apologised to teammates before returning to the crease to have a look at his foot mark.

Meanwhile, the umpire struggled to contain laughter as he signalled a wide.

“Luckily no one was in danger, second slip had to take a simple catch,” another commentator said.

Unfortunately for Cottrell, his day didn’t get much better as Bangladesh’s opener Tamim Iqbal went on to make a century and lead his team to a series victory.

Here’s the video of Sheldon Cottrell’s bizarre delivery:
