Veteran cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim was the chief architect as he came up with impressive batting performances throughout the contest. After bundling out Ireland for 224, the hosts managed to post 369 in their first innings, courtesy of Mushfiqur’s scintillating century. The right-handed batter smashed 126 from 166 deliveries, including 15 fours and a six. He was well supported by skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who smashed 94-ball 87.

In the second innings, Mushfiqur continued from where he left, scoring an unbeaten half-century (51 off 48) to help Bangladesh complete the chase of 138 runs. Notably, this victory also marked Bangladesh’s first Test win since they defeated New Zealand earlier in 2022, ending a nine-match winless streak.

Apart from Mushfiqur, spinner Taijul Islam was the major highlight for the hosts. He finished with match figures of 9/148, taking five wickets in the first innings and four in the second essay.
