Australian captain Meg Lanning got out due to one of the unluckiest dismissals in cricket in the recently concluded thir?d T20I against India at Carrara Oval in Queensland on Sunday. The Aussie skipper hit th?e stumps while batting and lost her prized scalp.

It all happened during the seventh over of Australia’s innings bowled by left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad. On the last ball, Gayakwad bowled a short delivery asking ??for trouble.

Lanning saw the opportunity and connected the ball well that ran away to the fence for a four. But little did she know that while attempting to play the attacking shot, Lanning ended up hitting?? the stumps and was declared hit wicket.

“She would be devastated, she smoked that for four. It’s gone for four. The skipper, who was looking in great touch, has registered a boundary which will have to be removed. What a disaster for the skipper,” said former Australian cricketer Brad Hodge in the commentary for Fox Cricket.

Here is the video:

In the game, Lanning could only score 14, but opener Beth Mooney and tailender Tahlia McGrath shined with the bat to help th?e hosts reach a respectable total. Mooney continued her golden form, smashing yet another half-century. She scored 61 off 43 balls with the help of 10 boundaries. Similarly, McGrath chipped in with a valuable 44 from 31 down the order as Australia posted 149/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, the visitors could only manage to reach 135/6 in 20 overs, losing the contest by 14 runs. Smriti Mandhana contributed well, w?ith a crucial fifty at the top. She scored 52 off 49 deliveries with the help of eight boundaries. But the middle-order failed to chip in as India fell 14 runs short of the total and lost the T20I series 2-0.

India seamer Shikha Pandey bowled an unplayable delivery in the second T20I against Australia at the Carrara Oval on Saturday to send Alyssa Healy back to the pavilion.

Defending 119, Pandey struck in the second ball of her first over. After being hit for a boundary off the first ball, the right-arm quick returned stronger with a length delivery that came bac??k in sharply to bamboozle Healy and dislodged the bails. While the Women in Blue erupted in joy to celebrate an early brea??kthrough, the Australian camp was completely shocked to see their star opener knocked over by a sensational delivery.

Here’s the video:

As soon as the video went viral on social media, former cricketers like Wasim Jaffer, Aakash Chopra lauded Pandey for her brilliance. Jaffer took to his Twitter handle and shared the slow-motion video of Pandey’s delivery. Lauding her, Jaffer called the delivery as ‘Ball of the century’.

Chopra captioned his post as, “Kamaal-Dhamaal Karte Ho, Pandey Ji.”

Well, Indian bowlers put up a valiant effort to defend the low score before Tahlia McGrath won the battle of nerves in the death overs, guiding Australia to a four-wicket victory. With this win, Australia also sealed the multi-format series ??as they won the ODI series 2-1 last month and drew the pink-ba?ll Test.

India Women produced a phenomenal display of all-round cricket to end Australia‘s record 26-match unbeaten streak with a two-wicket win in the third and final ODI at Harrup Park in Mackay on Sunday.

The Mithali Raj-led side chased down the target of 265 and registered their hig??hest-ever successful run-chase in ODI history. The Aussies, who lost their last 50-over fixture back in 2017, clinched the three-match ODI series 2-1.

Top-order batters Shafali Verma (56 off 91 balls) and Yastika Bhatia (64 off 69 balls) played crucial knocks in India’s epic chase. Deepti Sharma (31 off 30 balls) and Sneh Rana (30 off ??27 balls) also chipped in with valuable contributions down the order to take their side close to the finish line.

However, it was senior player Jhulan Goswami who scored the winning runs with a lofted drive straight down the ground fo??r a boundary in the final over of the match.

Earlier, Australia posted 264/9 on the board in their allotted 50 overs. The hosts were struggling at one stage after being reduced to 87/4, but Beth Mooney came for ??the rescue, scoring 64-ball 52 to steady the ship.

Ashleigh Gardner (67 off 62) and Tahlia McGrath (47 off 32) also made vital contributions ?to take their team to a respectable total.

For India, Goswami, who hit the winning runs during the chase, picked up three wickets for 37 in her quota of 10 overs. Apart from Goswami, Pooja Vastrakar a??lso bagged a three-wicket haul for 46 runs in n??ine overs.

India Women opener Smriti Mandhana has shared her views on the controversy regarding the no-ball in the final-over against Australia in the recently concluded s??econd One Day International ??(ODI) of a th??ree-match series at Harrup Park in Mackay, on Friday.

With 3 needed from 1 ball, Australia’s Nicola Carey hit a full-toss from Jhulan Goswami straight into the hands of the mid-wicket fielder. However, the full-toss was called a ?no-ball.

The confusion was around whether the full-toss delivery was a waist-high no-ball? or not. But after several reviews, the umpired decided to declare it as the illegal delivery. Australia required two runs off the final ball, and Carey, along with Beth Mooney, managed to register the impressive vict??ory.

Mandhana shared her thoughts on the controversy stating that they haven’t yet to watch the ball and would only be able to comment anything on it.

“We have not really seen the ball yet as a team. We were out there on the field, so it is very hard to judge if it was a waist-high no-ball or not. It is too early for us to call, we have to see the ball, and we will have a look at it,” Mandhana said during?? the post-match presentation.

“When these things go in your favour, you are really happy but would not add up to the controversy. I have seriously not looked at the ball yet,” she added.

Mandhana also spoke about her phenomenal innings during the match. She scored? a 94-ball 86 to assist India post 274/7 in 50 overs. Mandhana mentioned she was hurt not to carry along but was happy to score runs.

“I thought about where I need to improve; the support staff and everyone were behind me. So happy to get some runs under my belt, especially in the first innings. Getting out on 86 did hurt. I would have felt better if I had continued,” Mandhana added further.

India cricket team’s captain Mithali Raj added another feather to her illustrious cap as she completed 20,000 international runs in women’s cricket with her knock of 63 against Australia in the first On??e-Day In??ternational (ODI) at Harrup Park in Mackay on Tuesday.

Mithali and Yastika Bhatia (35) formed a crucial 77-run partnership for the third wicket to help the visitors post 225/8 on the board in their allotted 50 overs. While Bhatia was removed by Darcie Brown, Sophie Molineux sent Mithali back to the pavilion.

However, the total put by Women in Blue wasn’t enough for the Aussies as Rachael Haynes’ unbeaten 93 and Alyssa Healys sensational 77 steered the hosts to victory in just 41 overs with nine wickets to spare. Skipper Meg Lanning also remained unbeaten on 53 off 69 balls.

Reacting to Mithali’s record knock, Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu, who is all set to play the Indian skipper’s role in her biopic ‘Shabaash Mithu’, took to Twitter to congratulate her.

Need partnerships rather than thinking about fearless cricket: Mithali

After the match, Mithali exp??ressed her disappointment on the batting unit, especially the top-order. She stated that at present, Team India need few partnerships instead of paying attention to adapt the fearless cricket ??approach.

“We need to have now partnerships rather than thinking about fearless cricket. The girls need to get down to developing some partnerships in the middle, and that will definitely give them confidence at some point to play fearlessly,” said Mithali as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Mithali als???o spoke about her innings, where she took as many as 107 deliveries to score 63 runs at a poor strike rate of less than 60. Mithali said irrespective of her consistency to score runs, she needs to find some ways to improve further.

“It is always in my mind to improve on that [strike rate] aspect. I wouldn’t say I definitely don’t think about it, but it’s not something that crosses my mind when I walk in to bat. I’ve always felt no matter how many runs I score, there’s always some room for improvement. I want to evolve as a player, too. I know I’ve been scoring runs, but it isn’t enough for the team to win, so there’s always room for improvement,” added Mithali.
