After a fiery spell from debutant Aamer Jamal, Pakistan led by their batters finished the second day of the opening Test against Australia at 132/2, trailing by 355 runs. Despite losing a couple of wickets, including skipper Shan Masood, the visitors managed to end the day on a decent note. At stumps, Khurram Shehzad and opener Imam-ul-Haq ??were holding the creas??e, showing resilience against the formidable Australian bowling attack.

Solid start and early losses in Pakistan’s innings

Pakistan’s first innings began on a positive note with openers Imam and Abdullah Shafique forming a gritty partnership of over 50 runs. However, Australia’s Nathan Lyon broke through, claiming his 497th Test wicket by dismissing Shafique. Newly-appointed captain Masood  tried to steadied the innings alongside Imam but succumbed to Mitchell Starc‘s delivery. Despite these early setbacks, Pakistan showcased determination and fight in their response.

Australia batting display on Day 2 and Aamir Jamal’s bowling brilliance

Earlier, resuming their innings from 346/5 on Day 2, Australia’s Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey built a sturdy partnership, crossing 50 runs. Nevertheless, Pakistan struck with timely breakthroughs, leaving Marsh to battle alone until lunch. After the lunch break, Jamal targeted the remaining Australian tailende?rs, concluding their innings.

Jamal emerged as the standout bowler for Pakistan, finishing his debut Test spell with impressive figures of 6/111. His impact on Australia’s innings was significant, contributing to the host’s dismissal shortly after lunch on Day 2 as they were bowled out for 487.

Back in 2010, the hallowed turf of Lord’s hosted a Test match between Australia and Pakistan. The two old foes clashed against each other for a two-match Test series then.

Pakistan’s left-arm seamer, Mohammad Amir, in a recent interaction, talked about how the then Australian captain Ricky Ponting, sledged the Pakistan team relentlessly.

Amir went live on Instagram in conversation with Shan Maqsood while talking about the incident.
After being dismissed on 2??6 by Amir, Ponting got physical with the ??left armer.

“Remember, Umar Amin took the catch of Ponting,” Maqsood said. To which Amir replied by saying. “Me and Umar Amin got verbally abused by Ponting after dismissing him. He elbowed me as well,” Amir replied.

While sharing further details about the Test match, Maqsood described how Pakistan’s number three batsman received a mouthful from Ponting for not tucking in his shirt.

“When he [Umar Amin] went to bat in that match, his shirt was not tucked in. So, when he was taking his batting guard, Ponting came up to him and asked him to tuck in his shirt because he was not playing in his backyard,” Shan stated.

As a result, a scared Amin, making his debut, could only manage a single run, before being dismissed by Mitchell Johnson. “He scared the poor guy before he could bat,” said Amir.

Australia managed to win th??e Test match by a margin of 150-runs. The two-match series ended in a dra?w as Pakistan bounced back in the second Test match at Leeds.

Amir was instrumental in the second inn??ings of the Headingley Test match as he clin??ched a four-wicket haul with the prized scalp of Simon Katich, Mike Hussey, Ponting and Marcus North.

The quarter-finals of 2015 ODI World Cup saw hosts Australia at ?loggerheads with the unpredictable Pakistan side.

Batting first, Pakistan were in all sorts of trouble, finding it difficult to cope up with the pace o??f Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc on a juicy Adelaide pitch.

So much so that pinch-hitter Wahab Riaz had to walk in to ??bite the bullet against firm-favourites and the eventual winners of the tournament.

During his v??olatile stay at the crease, Riaz was finding it challenging to meet the ball with his willow. To which, the Australian close-in fielders with their sledges swarmed in to build a pressure-cookers situation for the Pakistani pacer.

One of the comments made from Shane Watson at slips fired up Riaz. ‘Are you holding a bat?’ asked Watson obeying the renowned Aussie culture of sledging.

However, the left-arm fast bowler got his revenge by bowling one of the great spells in World Cup cricket. Watson received a dose of his own medicine when Riaz sledged him back during his long follow-through??????????????????????????s.

Riaz gave the Aussie all-rounder a mouthful as he found it a hard task to survive an unplayable spell. Had Rahat Ali not dropped the catc??h, Watson would have been back to the p?avilion.

“When he came into bat, I settled the score with him. When I was batting Watson just came up to me and said ‘are you holding a bat?’ and that was going through my mind,” Riaz was quoted as saying by Indian Today.

“I let him know that even he had a bat, but he couldn’t touch the ball,” added Riaz. Watto then steered Australia to a comfortable win as the hosts progressed to the semi-finals.

Ricky Ponting, the former Australia skipper, was no doubt a legend in the cricketing field. The way he has captained the Aussies is an inspiration to many. Ponting is not o??nly a good leader but also an excellent analyzer of the game and on Friday he gave an example of his breathtaking wisdom.

In the Gabba Test, Australian top-order batsman Marnus Labuschagne scored a resplendent century, which helped his side to claim the victory over Pakist???an.

Labuschagne, in his 185-run knock, played some fabulous shots consisting of a pull shot, which reminded a few of the Ricky Ponting’s.

‘Punter’ was one of the best pull shot players; his style of putting his stride forward, leaning towards the length of the ball and striking the full pace deliveries either towards the mid-wicket or in the square region of the wicket was a treat to watch. The Master of this art gave his own view as to what does he think of Labuschagne’s pull shot.

Ponting came up with exceptional analysis and revealed why Australia’s new No. 3 is so good. Labuschagne, during his sensational innings in the first Test, played grounded pull shots, which is difficult as it always attracts top edges.

“The toe of the bat is up nice and high. Never at any stage does that get below the height of the ball. When you have the toe of the bat up in the air like that, all the weight has gone out of the bat, and all you have to do is drop the bat onto the ball,” said Ponting.

“Very rare, you get top edges when you’re playing like that. The ones that you top edge are ones that come from underneath the ball. If your bat is slow and your hands are low, and you’re swinging up and underneath the height of the ball, that’s the one you hit in the air,” added Ponting.
