The final of Legends League Cricket (LLC) Masters 2023 saw the Asia Lions, led by Shahid Afridi, take on the World Giants at West End Park International Cricket ?Stadium in Doha on Monday, March ?20.

The Lions chased down a target of 148 runs as their opening batsmen – Upul Tharanga and Tillakaratne Dilshan – scored magnificent half-centuries to help them secure a victory with 23 balls to spare. The duo put on a solid partnership of 115 runs within the first ten overs of the chase, frustrating the Giants’ bowlers. However, Brett Lee finally? broke the partnership w??hen he bowled Tharanga.

Tharanga played a brisk knock, scoring 57 off just 28 deliveries, including five fours and three sixes. On the other hand, Dilshan continued his dominance and soon brought up his half-century. He put on a brief partnership of 17 runs with Mohammad Hafeez before Samit Patel dismissed him. Dilshan was the top-scorer for the Lions in the run chase, with a knock of 58 runs off 42 balls, featuring eight boundaries. The Lions lost another wicket in the next over when Abdul Razzaq wa?s dismissed after scoring just three runs of??f six deliveries.

The Lions’ mainstay, Misbah-ul-Haq, joined Hafeez in the middle and ensured their side reached the target without further damage. Both batsmen remained unbeaten, scoring nine runs each. The Giants’ bowling attack struggled against the Lions, with Lee, Patel and Monty Panesar getting one wicket apiece.

Earlier, the Giants won the toss and elected to bat first. However, they got off to a dismal start, losing three wickets for just 19 runs within the powerplay. Lendl Simmons, Morne van Wyk and Shane Watson perished cheaply. Jacques Kallis anchored the innings, scoring a gritty knock of 78 runs off 54 deliveries, with five four and three sixes. But he didn’t receive any support from the other end, and the Giants could only post 147/4 on the scoreboard in their allotted 20 overs.

Batting first, the Lions posted an enormous total of 191/5 in 20 overs. Tharanga top scored with 50 off 31, while Hafeez smashed 38 off 24. Asghar Afghan (34 not out), Tillakaratne Dilshan (27 off 26), and Thisara Perera (2??4 off 12) also chipped in with valuable co??ntributions to the teamโ€™s total.

In a video shared by the official Twitter handle of Pakistan cricket, a fan can be seen requesting Afridi for an autograph on the Indian flag.

The former Pakistan skipper respectfully held the India Tricolour and gave an autograph to the fan. The vid??eo of the heartening incident became an instant hit among the fans and followers of the game as they showered praises on the Pakistan legend for hi??s brilliant gesture.

India Maharajas squared off with Asia Lions in the eliminator of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2023 at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha on Saturday (March 18) and lost the contest by huge 85 runs.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Asia Lions got off to a flying start and scored 191/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Upul Tharanga top-scored for his team and smashed a brilliant 50 off 31 balls comprising seven fours and one six. Mohammad Hafeez (38) and Asghar Afghan (34) also added crucial runs to the Lions’ total.

Meanwhile, Stuart Binny and Pragyan Ojha picked up two wickets each for India. Among the two wickets that Ojha picked also included the dismissal of Tharanga, who was brilliantly caught by Mohammad Kaif inside the third-yard circle.

On the fifth ball of the 9th over, Ojha delivered a short delivery to Tharanga, which the latter tried to hit for a boundary over the leg side. But Kaif diving towards his right, pulled off a one-handed stunner to send the half-centurion back to the pavilion and celebrated the left-hander’s departure in style with other teammates.

Kaif finished with three catches in the match. Apart from Tharanga, the veteran India cricketer also caught Thisara Perera and Hafeez.

Talking about India’s innings, the Indian side failed to chase the set target as they were bundled out by the Asian team for 106 in 16.4 overs. The handshake between the two players during the toss also garnered attention on social media.

Despite their newfound cordiality towards each other, Afridi has spoken up?? about their rivalry.

“We are both ambassadors of our respective countries. If you live in the past, you won’t be able to live. We are enjoying in our present. He is leading his team and is in good form, he is playing beautifully and it’s fun watching him bat. I have spent two to three days with him and it has been amazing,” said the retired Pakistan all-rounder during his recent interview with TV presenter and sports anchor Yashika Gupta.
