Sri Lankan veteran batsman Aravinda de Silva has demanded the ICC, BCCI and SLC for launching a probe looking into the match-fixing allegations regarding the final of the 2011 ODI World Cup. Aravinda was the Chairman of Selection committee at the time of the? 2011 World cup in India.

De Silva felt that ‘no one should get away telling lies�and making accusations as grave as this. Moreover, Silva reckoned that allegations dem??ean the Indian and Sri Lankan cricketers and management involved in the match.

The Lankan middle-order great, Aravinda, smashed a match-winning ton in the final of the 1996 ODI World Cup, which helped the Islanders win over Austra??lia.

Earlier, the ex-sports minister of Sri Lanka, Mahindananda Aluthgamage demanded an investigation to look at the surprise changes made on the day of the final at Wankhede stadium in Mu??mbai.

The Lions included Chamara Kapugedara in place of Chamara Silva, Thisara Perera in place of injured Angelo Matthews, Suraj Randiv in place? of Ajantha Mendis; and Nuwan Kulasekara ahead of Rangana Herath, who played against New Zealand in the semi-fina?ls of the tournament.

“Just like we cherished our World Cup victory, playe??rs like Sachin (Tendulkar) cherish these moments for the rest of their lives. The incident took place during the Karachi Test during the 2006 India tour of Pakistan. The first two matches of the se??ries were played in Lahore and Faisalabad which ended in high-scoring draws. As Asif mentioned, India fielded one of the most formidable batting lineups in tha??t era.

During the 4th innings, Akhtar took the ??ascendancy towards the India??ns who were already on the backfoot, trying to salvage a draw. Indians could only manage 265 as Pakistan won the match by a massive margin of 341 runs.

“When we started bowling, Shoaib Akhtar bowled at express pace in that match. I was standing at square leg near the umpire and I myself saw that Tendulkar closed his eyes while facing one or two bouncers bowled by Shoaib,” added the pacer.

“The Indians were playing on the back foot, and we didn’t allow them to score even 240 in the first innings. We snatched victory from the jaws of defeat,” Asif concluded.

In the end, Pakistan won the Test series by 1-0. However, India won the subsequent ODI series b??y a margin 4-1.
