In a thrilling display of fast bowling, India pacer Prasidh Krishna made headlines during the ongoing Test match against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). His crucial wicket of Alex Carey not only showcased his skill but also shifted the momentum in favour of India. As the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series intensifies, this match has become a battleground of strategy, resilience, and raw ?talent.

Prasidh Krishna shatters Alex Carey’s stumps on Day 2

On the second day of the Test, Krishna delivered a game-changing performance by dismissing Australian wicketkeeper Carey for 21 runs. This wicket came at a critical juncture when Carey and debutant Beau Webster had constructed a solid partnership of 41 runs for the sixth wicket. The dismissal was significant as it halted Australia’s progress and provided India with a much-needed psychological advantage.

Krishna’s approach was tactical; he bowled round the wicket and unleashed a full delivery that caught Carey off guard. The batter attempted to drive but was beaten by the pace, resulting in the ball sneaking between bat and pad to shatter the middle stump. The Indian players erupted in celebration as Carey trudged back to the pavilion, leaving behind four boundaries from his 36-ball innings.

Krishna’s journey till Test debut

At 28 years old, Krishna was making his debut in this series after being sidelined for the first four matches. He replaced Akash Deep, who was ruled out due to injury. Krishna’s selection proved to be a masterstroke as he demonstrated his potential on a grand stage. His ability to adapt and find his rhythm after initial struggles highlights his determination and skill as a fast bowler.

Throughout the innings, Krishna’s bowling was characterized by its precision and pace. He ended up taking two wickets in total, including that of Steve Smith, who was on the verge of reaching 10,000 Test runs. His performance not only reinforced his position in the team but also contributed significantly to India’s bowling attack, which thrived in Bumrah’s absence due to injury.

An intriguing battle of wits

The SCG Test has unfolded as an intriguing contest between bat and ball. Australia began their innings with Marnus Labuschagne after the dismissal of Usman Khawaja at the end of previous day but quickly found themselves under pressure from India’s bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj set the ton??e early on, claiming key wickets that lef??t Australia reeling at 39/4 within the first hour.

As the day progressed, Smith and Webster attempted to stabilize the innings with a resilient partnership. However, Krishna’s breakthrough against Carey shifted the tide back towards India. The dismissal sparked a collapse in Australia’s batting lineup, leading them to be bowled out for just 181 runs, giving India a slender lead of four runs. Though, the end of the second day’s play did saw a turn around where India bolstered a lead of 145 scoring 141 runs losing six wickets.

Australia‘s fast bowling sensation Mitchell Starc faces uncertainty about his participation in the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Starc, who struggled with back and side pain during the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, has sparked concerns about his fitness. Ahead of the last Test, Starc’s teammate and Australia wicket-keeper batter Alex Carey comes up with a key update regarding left arm pacer’s availability

Alex Carey confident in Mitchell Starc’s toughness

Speaking about Starc’s condition, Carey praised the left-arm pacer’s fortitude, and expressed confidence in Starc’s resilience, describing him as one of the toughest cricketers he’s played with. Despite occasional discomfort and visible signs of pain, Carey believes Starc will persevere and be ready for the challenge.

He’ll be fine. He will push through. I’ve played with Starcy (Mitchell Starc) for a long time now and he is one of the toughest cricketers that I’ve played with. He’ll grimace and grab his rib without a doubt at times but he’ll be ready for the contest,” Carey said to the reporters.

Starc’s stellar performance in the ongoing series

With four matches completed in the gripping five-match Test series, Australia holds a 2-1 lead over their opponents, with one match ending in a rain-affected draw. The stage is now set for a high-stakes finale at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground. Australia’s success has been built on the foundation of their formidable bowling attack, with Starc playing a pivotal role. Despite a challenging outing in Melbourne, Starc has been a standout performer throughout the series.

In four matches, Starc has claimed 15 wickets, ranking as the fourth-highest wicket-taker overall and the second-best among Australian bowlers, trailing only captain Pat Cummins. His impressive average of 28.73 and a tidy economy rate of 3.28 underscore his consisten??cy and impact. A shining moment of the series came in the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide, where Starc delivered a career-best performance with figures of 6/48. In the ongoing fourth Test match between Australia and India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Jasprit Bumrah showcased his exceptional bowling skills on Day 4, leaving cricket fans in awe. The Indian pace spearhead delivered a sensational performance, particularly highlighted by his stunning dismissal of Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey. This match has been a thrilling contest, with both teams vying for supremacy as th??ey seek? to secure an advantage in the series.

A fiery start to Day 4 for India

The day began with Team India aiming to make early inroads into the Australian batting lineup. Bumrah and his fellow seamers wasted no time, striking early by dismissing Australia’s openers cheaply. Bumrah’s first breakthrough came when he dismissed Sam Konstas, while Mohammed Siraj quickly followed suit by removing Usman Khawaja. Despite these early setbacks, Australia managed to extend their lead past 150 runs, setting a challenging ta??rget for India.

Jasprit Bumrah bamboozles Alex Carey with stunning delivery

The highlight of Bumrah’s day came during Australia’s second innings when he bowled a remarkable delivery to Carey on the last ball of the 36th over. The ball pitched on a good length and jagged back sharply after hitting the ground. Carey attempted to punch it through the covers but was caught off guard by the movement, resulting in an inside edge that crashed into the off-stump. This delivery not only showcased Bumrah’s skill but also emphasized his ability to deceive even the most adept batters.

Here’s the video:

Australia’s post-lunch collapse

After lunch, Australia found themselves at 53/2, leading by 158 runs, with Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith at the crease. However, the second session saw a dramatic collapse as Bumrah continued to wreak havoc. He claimed three wickets in quick succession, dismissing Travis Head for just 1 run and Mitchell Marsh for a duck. This flurry of wickets left Australia reeling at 135/6 before Tea, with Bumrah reaching a signif??icant milest??one of 200 Test wickets in only 44 matches.

India’s bowling strategy and Australia’s response

Bumrah’s performance was crucial in maintaining pressure on the Australian batting lineup. His unique bowling action and ability to generate swing and seam movement have made him one of the most feared bowlers in world cricket. As noted by former players and analysts, his unorthodox style often leaves batters unsettled, particularly those who have not faced him before. With Australia losing four wickets for just 11 runs in a mere 22 balls during this session, it was clear that Bumrah’s presence had a profound impact on the match dynamics.

India aim to bowl out Australia for a manageable target, they are keenly aware of the stakes involved. The series is currently tied at 1-1, and a victory in this match would significantly enhance India’s chances of reaching the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final in 2025. Earlier in the match, India had been bowled out for 369, adding only 11 runs to their overnight score. Controversy erupted during their innings when Mohammed Siraj appeared to edge a delivery only for the third umpire to rule it a bump ball, leaving Australia??n pla??????????????????????????yers frustrated.

Australia‘s preparations for the second Test against India have intensified as they seek to neutralize the threat posed by Jasprit Bumrah. The Indian stand-in captain was the star of the opening Test in Perth, leading India to a dominant 295-run victory, courte?sy of his fine bowling performance.

Bumrah’s exceptional performance, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings, earned him the Player of the Match award and reaffirmed his reputation as one of the most lethal bowlers in world cricket. With the stage set for the pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval, Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey h?as shed light on the t??eam’s strategy to counter Bumrah and bounce back in the series.

Alex Carey reveals Australia’s plan to tackle Jasprit Bumrah

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Carey acknowledged Bumrah’s brilliance but emphasized his confidence in Australia’s batting lineup to overcome the challenge. Carey highlighted that having faced Bumrah in the first Test, the Australian batters are now bette??r?? equipped to deal with his variations and relentless accuracy.

Carey pointed out Travis Head‘s aggressive approach in the first Test as an example of how Australian batters could challenge Bumrah. Despite the team’s struggles in Perth, Head’s counterattacking innings demonstrated that attacking the opposition’s spearhead could disrupt their plans.

“Oh, look, he’s a fantastic bowler and has been for years. Our batters are world-class and always find solutions. We’ve analysed him, and hopefully, we can handle his first and second spells better, getting him to bowl later with an older ball. Travis’s counterpunch was effective, and I trust our batters to adapt. Not just Bumrah, but their other debutants also bowled well, and we’ll strategise accordingly,” Carey remarked.

In the world of cricket, few sights are as electrifying as a fast bowler delivering a perfectly executed bouncer. On September 21, 2024, during the second ODI between Australia and England at Headingley, Mitchell Starc showcased his prowess with a magnificent bouncer that not only dismissed Olly Stone but also sealed a comprehensive victory for Australia by 68 runs. This moment encapsulated the essence of fast bowling and highlighted Starc’s critical role in the Australian squad.

Australia’s comeback paves way to England’s shortcoming

As the match progressed, Australia set a challenging target of 271 runs after their innings concluded at 270 all out in 44.4 overs. Key contributions came from Alex Carey, who top-scored with 74 runs, and Mitchell Marsh, who added a solid 60. England’s response began shakily, losing early wickets and struggling to build partnerships. By the time they reached 202 all out in just 40.2 overs, they were well short of the target, with Starc’s lethal bowling proving pivotal.

Mitchell Starc’s bowling brilliance shatters Olly Stone

The fall of wickets for England was rapid and relentless. They lost their first wicket at just 26 runs, and by the ninth over, they were reeling at 65 for five. Starc’s bowling was instrumental in dismantling the English batting line-up, claiming three wickets for 50 runs in his spell. His final wicket was particularly memorable, a bouncer that Stone attempted to duck under but instead deflected off his bat to slip, where Steven Smith made no mistake in taking the catch.

Starc has long been recognized as one of the premier fast bowlers in modern cricket. With his ability to generate pace and reverse swing, he poses a significant threat to any batting order. In this match, he utilized his s??kills effectively, consistently troubling the English batters with short-pitched deliveries that kept them on edge.

Here’s the video:

Starc’s control over the art of bowling

Starc’s dismissal of Stone was not just a stroke of luck, it was a culmination of strategic planning and execution. The bouncer was well-directed and at an uncomfortable height for the batter, showcasing Starc’s understanding of how to exploit weaknesses in his opponents. This dismissal not only ended Stone’s brief innings but also marked a decisive moment in the match where Australia firmly established their dominance.

Australia’s victory by 68 runs not only boosted their confidence but also emphasized their strength as a unit heading into the remainder of the ODI series. With players like Starc leading from the front with both bat and ball, Australia looks poised to continue their winning momentum against England for the remaining 3 encounters.

The second ODI of Australia’s tour of England 2024 at Headingley saw the Aussies continue their dominance with a comprehensive 68-run victory over the hosts. This win, led by a brilliant half-century from Alex Carey, secured Australia a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. England, despite some moments of resistance, couldn’t cope with Australia’s superior bowling attack, ultimately falling short of their target.

Australia’s innings: Alex Carey and Mitchell Marsh play anchor role

After losing the toss and being put into bat, Australia got off to a quick start with openers Travis Head and Matthew Short setting the tone. Head showed his aggression early on, hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes off just 27 balls, while Short played a supporting role with 29 off 36, including 4 fours and a six. However, the openers couldn’t convert their starts as both fell within the first 10 overs, leaving Australia at 65/2.

Skipper Mitchell Marsh then took charge, building a solid middle-order partnership with Marnus Labuschagne after Steven Smith’s brief stay at the crease. Marsh looked in good touch, scoring 60 runs off 59 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes. His fluent knock ensured Australia maintained a healthy run rate, though he was dismissed by Jacob Bethell.

The star of the innings, however, was wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey. Coming in at 5, Carey played a crucial role in holding the innings together. He displayed excellent shot selection, smashing 74 runs off 67 balls, with 8 fours and 3 sixes. Carey’s ability to rotate the strike while attacking at key moments helped Australia reach a competitive total. His innings, combined with a 23-run contribution from Aaron Hardie, powered Australia to 270 all out in 44.4 overs.

England’s bowlers had mixed results. Brydon Carse was the most successful, taking 3 wickets for 75 runs in his 10 overs. Adil Rashid continued his?? consistent form, grabbing 2 wickets for 42 runs in his full quota, while Jacob Bethell impressed with figures of 2/33 from 5 overs. Matthew Potts  also chipped in two wickets, bu?t Australia managed to put up a challenging total on the board.

England’s response: A collapse amidst brief resistance

Chasing 271, England struggled to build momentum from the outset. Australia’s experienced bowling attack, led by Mitchell Starc, applied pressure right from the start. England’s top order failed to fire, with Philip Salt (12 off 14), Will Jacks (a golden duck), Harry Brook (4 off 9) falling cheaply, leaving England reeling at 46/3 within the first 7 overs.

Ben Duckett’s dismissal for 32 runs off 25 balls further dented England’s hopes, and it was Jamie Smith who provided some stability. Smith played a gritty knock of 49 from 61 balls, hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes. He tried to rebuild the innings alongside Jacob Bethell, who contributed 25 off 35 balls. However, just as England appeared to be steadying, Smith was dismissed by Jason Hazlewood, triggering another collapse.

Carse (26 off 46) and Rashid (27 off 34) tried to offer resistance in the lower order, but it was too little, too late. Australia’s bowlers, especially Starc, continued to pick up wickets at regular intervals. Starc finished with figures of 3/50 in 9.2 overs, including the final wicket of Olly Stone, sealing Australia’s win. Hazlewood also impressed with 2/54 in 8 overs, while Glenn Maxwell’s off-spin proved effective, as he grabbed 2/15 in 6 overs.

England wer??e bowled out for 202 in 40.2 overs, falling 68 runs sh?ort of the target.

betvisa888Alex Carey – Cricket Times - betvisa888 bet //betvisa68.com/2024/08/aaron-finch-picks-steve-smiths-batting-position-for-border-gavaskar-trophy-2024-25/ Fri, 30 Aug 2024 11:49:37 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=152744

Former Australia captain Aaron Finch has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding Steve Smith‘s batting position in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy and more importantly Test crick?et. Finch believes that Smith should revert to his traditional No. 4 slot, a position where he has consistently excelled throughout his career.

Smith’s recent stint at the top of the order, necessitated by David Warner‘s retirement, has not yielded the desired results. While he has shown glimpses of his class, his overall consistency has been lacking, especially against quality opposition.

Aaron Finch’s plea for Steve Smith’s return to number 4

Finch suggested that Smith’s promotion to the opening slot was a tactical move to accommodate Cameron Green at No. 4, given the team’s desire to develop Green as a key player.

“(Smith opening) did make a bit of sense when you’re trying to find the best spot for Cameron Green in the side when everybody’s been quite open about the fact that they want to push him in the side no matter what it takes,” Finch stated in a conversation with 7News.

While Smith has shown his adaptability by succeeding as an opener, F??inch believes that his long-standing success at No. 4 makes it a more suitable position for him.

“I can see where the move came from, Steve putting his hand up and saying, ‘You know what, maybe it is time for a new challenge,?and he proved himself a good opener, no doubt about that. But, I mean, when you’ve averaged near on 60 over your career, I think it’s time to head back in that direction, in my opinion,” he added.

A balanced batting order

Finch’s suggestion to move Smith back to No. 4 is not without merit. It would allow Australia to create a more balanced batting lineup, with experienced batters in the middle order. Additionally, it would provide Smith with the opportunity to play his natural game and capitalize on his strengths.

Travis Head and Alex Carey: A dynamic duo

To accommodate Smith’s return to No. 4, Finch has proposed a bold move, promoting Travis Head to the opening slot. Head has shown promise as an opener in the past, and his a??ggressive style could be a valuable asset a?t the top of the order.

Finch has also backed Alex Carey to?? fill the void left by Head in the middle order. Carey has demonstrated his ability to play aggressive shots and has the pote??ntial to be a valuable asset with both bat and gloves.

“All around the world, he’s probably proved himself to be an outstanding wicket-keeper and then the runs are really important, especially against a team like India. Their bowling attack is so strong that you can’t allow them to dictate terms to you because they’re so consistent. They’re so accurate. So the way that he plays and puts the pressure back on oppositions will be a really crucial role at No. 7ebecause there will be early wickets,” Finch explained.

Carey had scored a counter-attacking 65 off 49 deliveries and an unbeaten 98 off 123 deliveries against the West Indies and New Zealand, respectively, earlier this year to rescue his side. The wicket-keeper batter has proven to be a handy addition with the bat and averages ??31.8?8 in Test cricket.

Cricket Australia (CA) has unveiled the central contracts for the 2024-2025 season, awarding new deals to 23 players. However, the notable absence of veteran all-rounder Marcus Stoinis stands out as the biggest omission from the upcoming season’s contracts.

Marcus Stoinis’ absence

Stoinis, who recently dealt with injuries, was the part of the Australia‘s triumph in the ODI World Cup 2023 held in India. Nevertheless, his performance in the tournament was underwhelming, tallying only 97 runs and four wickets across six matches. Despite this, Stoinis remains in contention for a spot in Australia’s potential squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, slated to occur in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA) in?? June. But he is not among the players listed in the central con?tracts, alongside several other notable names.

Notable omissions and new talents

Apart from Stoinis, notable players like all-rounder Ashton Agar, opener Marcus Harris, pacer Michael Neser and the recently-retired David Warner are also left out of Cricket Australia’s list of central contracts. Instead, the board decided to extend new deals to a handful of promising new talents.

Further, Matt Short and Aaron Hardie are granted fresh contracts subsequent to their promotion to the contract roster earlier in the season. Alongside them, fast bowler Nathan Ellis also received a renewed deal, with Xavier Bartlett rounding out the list as the newest addition.

George Bailey’s confidence

Cricket Australia’s selection chair, George Bailey, expressed confidence in the players awarded new contracts, affirming their potential for enduring international careers. He underscored the rationale behind extending contracts to these emerging talents, emphasizing their promising future in the cricketing are?na.

“Matt, Aaron and Xavier have been extremely impressive in the early stages of their international careers. Their performances and the way they have embraced the international stage have been exciting to watch. The panel believes they have strong futures and deserve their contracts as they work towards striving to become regulars in the Australian setup,” Bailey was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au
