The innovative 3 Team Cricket marked the return of live sport in South Africa for the first time since March??. The match was put together to rai??se funds for the Hardship Fund, a joint Cricket South Africa (CSA) project aimed at providing relief to those affected by COVID-19.

The Eagles got profited from a swashbuckling knock by De Villiers and his century s??tand with Aiden Markram went a long way towards cementing the gold medal for their side.

ABD smashed a 24-ball 61 while Markram registered a score of 70 from 33 balls and helped th?eir side score 160/4 across the two halves of six overs each that they faced.

The Eagles were 22 runs ahead of the 138/3? posted by silver medalists Kites and 47 ahead of the Kingfishers (113/5), the team that won the bronze.

During the match, De Vil??liers saw his shoe coming out in a funny turn of events as he tried to run for a single of the bowling of young Thando N??tini.

Earlier, ahead of the start of the match, all players and officials showed their support towards the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement as they wore black armbands and then took a knee in support of the campaign.

Cricket South A?frica (CSA) revealed that six people had been tested?? positive for coronavirus ahead of the 3 Team match that will be taking place on Saturday, July 18.

However, CSA has not disc?losed the identity of infected patients.

“Cricket South Africa can confirm that approximately 50 Covid-19 PCR tests were performed on players, coaches, support and venue staff during the period of 10 to July 13 at various venues across the country, in preparation for the 3 Team Cricket match that will be taking place on Saturday, July 18 2020,” CSA said in a statement.

“Six positive results were returned but none among any of the participating players. They have been managed by the CSA Medical team according to the current Department of Health & National Institute for Communicable Diseases guidelines.”

The Solidarity Cup will mark the resumption of crick??et in S??outh Africa.

The format of the tournament is quite inventive where three teams each with eight players will lock the??ir horns simultaneously in a single match.

The Solidarity Cup would mark the resumption of cricketing actions in South Africa after the Ministry of Sports approved the revised date of July 18. The match, earlier expec?ted to be held on June 27 at SuperSport Park in Centurion, was?? postponed for an indefinite period due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Further, July 18 also happens to be the auspicious day for Africans as they celebrate th??e birth anniversary of their revolutionary leader Nelson Mandela.

“It’s very exciting to get live cricket, featuring our top players, back on our TV screens again,” I can’t think of a more appropriate day on which to hold this game than Nelson Mandela Day when its prime objective is to raise funds for those who have been badly affected by the Coronavirus,” remarked CSA Acting Chief Executive Jacques Faul to the local press.

This would be a charity match, and the funds received will be utilised to help those who were severely affected by the ongoing epidemic. Top 24 players of the nation would play a unique, impromptu format of ‘3T CRICKET,’ in which three teams with eight players each battle out simultaneously for the trophy.

AB de Villiers would lead the Eagles, while for the Kingfishers, Kagiso Rabada will be at the hel??m and Quinton De Kock will be captaining the Kites.

The fixture is to be played for 36 overs, and there will be an innings break after the? completion of the first 18 overs. Each team gets an opportunity to bat for 12 overs -six in each half. A bowler can bowl a maximum of three overs in a match.
