Rohit Sharma has been under much fury from Indian fans and analysts after his failure as a batter and captain of the squad which lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Australia for the first time in 10 years. The latest to comment on Indian skipper’s current form woes is from former Australian batter Simon Katich who shared his unique perspective on what Rohit should do in t??he futur?e.

Simon Katich takes a dig at Rohit Sharma’s post-retirement plans

Without giving any chance of return to Rohit, Katich highlighted that red-ball cricket has indeed come to a dead-end for Rohit according to him. In a discussion with Star Sports, Katich took the criticism of the Indian skipper to a whole new level and reckoned Rohit has a fut??ure in?? stand-up comedy.

“Well, if you look at the numbers, they are damning??. We saw it in this Test. It was very selfless of him to opt out of the Test, I saw in that interview, very well-spoken. There’s no doubt he has a future after he is done playing cricket in stand-up comedy because his humor was very good,?/em> Katich mockingly remarked.

Additionally, Katich highlighted the kind of physical inconvenience Test cricket can be for a 37-year-old. He said: “Those numbers are not for pretty reading. Test cricket isn??’t a place for 37-year-olds at the top of the order.?/em>

India are set to play England in a 5-match Test series in June this year. This will be a major bilateral Test series that the Indian team will play after their defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. According to Katich, the tour? to England is not going to be easy for Rohit.

“Only he knows whether he has the hunger and drive at 37 to go again. England is not going to be an easy series,” Katich pointed out.

Rohit’s batting woe a constant concern for India

Rohit had a disappointing season with the bat, particularly in the longest format of the game. Indian cricket’s “Hitman?scored his last Test century in March 2024 against England in Dharamsala. His performances in overseas Test matches have been particularly concerning. A series of underwhelming knocks from the Indian skipper started with his poor batting display in South Africa at the beginning of 2024. The 37-year-old endured a dismal run with the bat during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Hi?s current form in red-ball cricket has further clou??ded his prospects of getting a place in the Indian squad for the England tour.

Looks like the Australian hangover over Jasprit Bumrah has not come to an end even after Border-Gavaskar action be?tween the two nations reached its climax in Sydney. The Australian analysts and broadcasters still can’t get over the terror which Indian pace maestro Bumrah inflicted in the hearts of Aussie batters and those watching him.

Mark Waugh highlights striking similarity between Jasprit Bumrah and Lockie Ferguson’s action

A rather hilarious incident occurred in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 which shows Bumrah’s shadows are still scaring Aussies. During a BBL match between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder at The Gabba, an unconventional b??all from Lockie Ferguson caught Heat batters by surprise?.

However, Australian former cricketer Mark Waugh who was in the commentary panel couldn’t let go off?? the delivery easily and immediately pointed out the similarity between Ferguson’s slight limp in run-up before bowling the delivery with Bumrah’s run-up.

Ferguson has managed to astonish the batters in BBL this season with this move by taking the pace off the run-up and outsmarting the batters as they wrongly anticipate the speed of the incoming delivery. Ferguson bowled a marquee spell as Thunder clashed with Heat in the 25th clash of the season. He also made highlights in the same match by bowling a sensational delivery to take the bails off Jack Wood’s off-stump to send the Heat opener back to the?? pavilion on just 2 runs??.

More importantly, Ferguson has managed to keep his economy rate at a remarkable 7.16 which makes him one of the most efficient bowlers in the season so far. Ferguson had earlier also featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL) playing for teams like Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Gujarat Titans (GT). The New Zealand international played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the previous season. Ahead of the IPL auctio??n the franchise decided to release him.

Online impersonation has fooled the very best of us sometimes. Cricketers are no exception to it. Be it Anil Kumble who had to issue a statement after fake quotes of him went viral on social media platforms or Virat Kohli who felt the need to check if tennis star Novak Djokovic’s Instagram account is real after he received a message from the tennis champion. Latest in the list of people caught in an impersonation fiasco is former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who interacted with an impersonator of Ritika SajdehRohit Sharma’s wife.

Ravichandran Ashwin engages in a chat with Ritika Sajdeh’s parody account

The incident occurred as Ashwin who is highly active on social media platform X after his retirement, received a comment on one of his posts which said, “Australia thought they can clean sweep us,” the account with a username @Nishitha018 commented. However, since the account had used the name and photo of Ritika, Ashwin? thought it is indeed Rohit’s wife and gave an instant reply to the comment.

“Hi Ritika, how are you? Regards to the little one and family,” Ashwin replied on the impersonator’s post. The user continued being Ritika and enjoying the traction it had received online following a reply from Ashwin. “I’m good Ashwin anna,?/em> it replied back. However, by that time, Ashwin realised that it was a fake account and deleted the whole conversation.

The couple welcomed a baby boy in November 2024, their second child after they were blessed with a girl, Samaira in 2018. Rohit opted out of the first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth and did not travel with the Indian squad to Australia in order to be with his wife. The 37-year-old joined the squad in Adelaide for the second Test match. Rohit confirmed the birth of his second child in a social media post captioned, “The FAMILY, the one where we are four.?/em> A date was also mentioned by the Indian skipper 15.11.2024 to confirm the birth of their newborn.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 have gone as expected for Australian opener Usman Khawaja. The 38-year-old scored only 184 runs in 5 Test matches with a worrying average of 20.44. In the midst of Australia’s triumph and his silent season with the bat, the Australian batter recently revealed the toughest bowler he has faced in h??is career so far.

Usman Khawaja opens up on his bowling nightmare

The Australian batter who hails his roots from Pakistan, after securing a historic win in Sydney to clinch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years, spoke about the situation that developed in the second innings of the last Test match. Speaking to ABC Sport, the 38-year-old revealed that Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is the toughest bowler he has faced.

“I was just getting Bumrah’d. It’s a shame he was (injured) but thank god for us. Today would’ve been an absolute nightmare facing him on that wicket. As soon as we didn’t see him out there we thought ‘alright, we’ve got a chance here’. He’s the toughest bowler I’ve ever faced,” Khawaja said.

The stand-in Indian skipper in the opening and final match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Bumrah has been a bone of contention for Australian batters throughout the series. The 31-year-old pace maestro was the leading wicket-taker with 32 dismissals to his name and was named the Player of the Series. However, he was unable to bowl ??on Day 3 of the final Test match in Sydney due to a back spasm. This paved the way for Australia’s 6-wic??ket triumph over India in the Sydney Test and seal a 3-1 series win.

Bumrah’s injury can be directly attributed to the excessive workload that the Indian pacer had to undergo throughout the series. He bowled more than 150 overs in 5 Test matches as he was the sole in-form pacer for his side. Notably, Bumrah saved the Indian team from an early humiliation in the Melbourne Test as he bowled ?a total of 52 overs and clinched 9 Australian wickets.

Khawaja talks about Sam Konstas’ character in the series

Another talking point throughout the series has been the youngster Sam Konstas who featured in the Australian squad ahead of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne and had a dream debut against India with a 60-run knock in the first innings of the 4th Test. More than his batting skills, Konstas has been in the headlines due to his heated exchanges with seasoned Indian campaigners like Bumrah and Virat Kohli. Khawaja, who opened with the 19-year-old in the last 2 Tests, observed Konstas?behaviour on? the pitch.

“I’ve never met anyone so arrogant but so endearing at the same time. He’s a very lovable character. He’s got this sense of being arrogant but saying it with a smile on his face.” Khawaja remarked on Konstas.

With their triumph over India, Australia have sealed a spot in the WTC finals set to be held in June against South Africa, who have already qualified to win the coveted Test mace at the Lord’s.
