Gujarat Giants delivered a commanding performance, registering a massive 81-run victory over UP Warriorz in the 15th match of Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 at the Bharat Ratna Shr?i Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

Riding on Beth Mooney’s unbeaten 96 off 59 balls, Gujarat posted a formidable 186/5 in 20 overs. In reply, the Warriorz crumbled under pressure, managing only 105 runs in 17.1 overs, thanks to a stellar bowling display led by Kashvee Gautam and Tanuja Kanwar. This emphatic win marked Gujarat’s third victory in th?e tournament, propelling them to the second spot in the WPL 2025 points table.

Beth Mooney anchors Gujarat Giants to a mammoth total

Opting to bat first after losing the toss, Gujarat got off to a shaky start as they lost Dayalan Hemalatha for just 2 runs in the opening over. However, Mooney showcased her class and took control of the innings with a magnificent knock, playing the anchor role while keeping the scoreboard ticking at an impressive strike rate. She formed a crucial 101-run partnership with Harleen Deol, who played a fine supporting role with a quick 45 off 32 balls before falling to Sophie Ecclestone. Mooney was at her aggressive best, piercing gaps with elegant stroke play and dominating the opposition bowlers. Even after Harleen’s dismissal, Mooney kept the momentum going, finding boundaries at regular intervals. Contributions from Deandra Dottin (17 off 8) and Ashleigh Gardner (11 off 10) ensured Gujarat finished with a massive 186/5 in their 20 overs, putting UP Warriorz under immense p??ressure.

The UP Warriorz bowlers struggled to contain Mooney, with all bowlers going for plenty. Ecclestone (2/34) and Deepti Sharma (1/37) were among the wickets, but their economy rates remained on the higher side. Kranti Goud (1/46 in 4 overs) had a forgettable outi??ng, conceding runs at over 11 runs per over. Despite a few breakthroughs, the bowlers could not break Gujarat’s dominance??, setting up a tough chase for the Warriorz.

UP Warriorz collapse as Gujarat’s bowlers dominate in the WPL 2025 clash

Chasing a challenging target of 187, the Warriorz got off to a horrendous start, losing three wickets inside the first over. Dottin struck twice, dismissing Kiran Navgire and Georgia Voll for ducks, leaving UPW reeling at 2/2. Things worsened when Dinesh Vrinda fell cheaply for 1, as Gautam and Kanwar ripped through the batting lineup. Despite a fighting 25 off 30 balls from Grace Harris, the Warriorz never gained any momentum, as wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. Chinelle Henry’s late cameo of 28 off 14 was the only silver?? lining, but it was too little too late.

Gujarat’s bowlers were relentless, with Gautam (3/11) and Kanwar (3/17) leading the charge. Dottin (2/14) and Ashleigh Gardner (1/9) also chipped in as the Warriorz folded for a mere 105 in 17.1 overs, succumbing to a crushing 81-run defeat. The disciplined bowling attack ensured Gujarat continued their impressive run in WPL 2025, moving up to second place in the points table with this commanding win.

UP Warriorz arrive at their home for the first time in Women?Premier League (WPL) 2025 season as they face Gujarat Giants in an epic clash of the prestigious tournament.

The Warriorz are currently placed 3rd in the points table with 2 wins and 3 losses. A win for the Warriorz at this point would? solidify their position and put them right in the race for a spot in the playoffs. The Giants, on the other hand, are still at the bottom of the table with a poorer run rate than the Warriorz. They would aim to register a win against the Warriorz on their home ground and overtake other rival teams to jump upwards in the ??points table.

Ekana Stadium Pitch Report:

Unlike many other venues that are often seen as batting havens, the wickets at Ekana Stadium tend to favor the bowlers, particularly those who specialize in slower or spin deliveries. Last season’s IPL matches here yielded mixed results, with the pitch offering something for both batters and bowlers, depen?ding on the conditions. However, the general trend has been that the surface provides more assistance to the bowlers, making it challenging for the batters to dominate.

In WPL 2025 season, it will be intriguing to? see how the p?itch behaves, and whether it continues to offer an edge to the bowlers or if the batters will find a way to capitalize on it. The unique nature of the Ekana wicket always adds an extra layer of excitement and unpredictability to the game.

Gujarat Giants (GG) registered a comprehensive six-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 12th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday, February 28. The game saw some intense moments, including a sensational yorker by Kashvee Gautam that knocked over Richa Ghosh, further tilting the match in Gujarat’s favour.

Gujarat Giants’ smart call at the toss

Winning the toss, Gujarat Giants opted to field first, a decision that proved to be? instrumental in restricting RCB’s batting lineup. Their bowlers displa?yed a disciplined performance, stifling RCB’s batters and ensuring they couldn’t accelerate at any point during their innings.

RCB’s struggle with the bat

RCB had a rocky start as they lost early wickets, making it difficult for them to build momentum. Wickets at regular intervals never allowed them to break free, despite efforts from Kanika Ahuja, who top-scored with 33 runs. Richa attempted to stabilize the innings,?? but her stay at the crease was cut short by a breathtaking delivery from Kashvee.

Kashvee Gautam’s yorker stuns Richa Ghosh

The defining moment of the first innings came in the 15th over, on the last ball, when Kashvee  delivered a pinpoint yorker. Richa, attempting an off-side drive, failed to bring her bat down in time, resulting in the ball crashing into the off-stump. The Giants?bowler erupted in celebration as the crowd acknowledged her brilliance. Ghosh departed a??fter scoring 9 runs off 10 balls, including one six, leaving RCB struggling to post a compet??itive total.

RCB managed to put up only 125/7 in their allotted 20 overs, with Tanuja Kanwar (2/16) and Deandra Dottin? (2/31) leading the bowling attac??k for Gujarat. Their tight spells ensured that RCB could not reach a par score on a traditionally high-scoring Bengaluru pitch.

Ashleigh Gardner and Phoebe Litchfield seal the chase for Gujarat Giants

Chasing a modest target of 126, Gujarat Giants displayed a composed batting effort. Ashleigh Gardner led the charge with a magnificent 58-run knock, supported by Phoebe Litchfield, who remained unbeaten on 30. Their partnership ensured that Gujarat maintained control throughout the chase. Despite a few hiccups, Gujarat reached the target comfortably in 16.3 overs, finishing at 126/4.

Renuka Singh provided some resistance with the ball for RCB, claiming two wickets for 24 runs, but her efforts weren’t enough? to prevent GG from sealing the win.

With 4 points in 4 matches, RCB are currently 2nd in the points table and will try to dominate the Giants who are still at the rock bottom?? of the points tab??le struggling to break in much like previous season.

The hosts will rely upon skipper Smriti Mandhana’s ability to score runs on the board along with the all-round capabilities of Ellyse Perry. On the other hand, the Giants are reliant on Ashleigh Gardner and will hope that players like Deandra Dottin and Harleen Deol gain their momentum back for the team.

M. Chinnaswamy Stadium Pitch Report

The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is widely acclaimed for its batting-friendly conditions, making it a favorite venue for high-scoring T20 matches. The pitch offers a consistent bounce, which enables batters to play their shots with confidence and ease. The short boundaries further amplify scoring opportunities, often leading to thrilling, high-run encounters. Teams batting first typically target a total of over 180 runs, capitalizing on the favorable conditions. While fast bowlers can extract some movement early on, it is the spinners who generally come into their own as t??he match progresses, with the pitch becoming drier. Given these dynamics, teams often prefer to bat first upon winning the toss, aiming to post a commanding total and put pressure on the ??opposition.

Delhi Capitals (DC) made a dominant start in Match 10 of Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 as their bowlers ripped through Gujarat Giants’ (GG) top order in the powerplay at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Marizanne Kapp and Shikha Pandey led the charge, striking early to leave Gujarat Giants reeling at 20/4 within the first five overs. Harleen Deol, Phoebe Litchfield, Beth Mooney and Kashvee Gautam fell cheaply as Delhi’s disciplined bowling attack exposed Gujarat’s batting frailties.

Marizanne Kapp strikes early to dismantle the Gujarat Giants’ top-order

The Capitals came out firing on all cylinders in the powerplay, with Kapp leading the charge in a devastating opening spell. The damage began on the first ball of her second over when she produced a textbook outswinger with Deol fishing at it outside. The extra movement off the surface forced an indecisive poke, resulting in a straightforward catch to wicketkeeper Sarah Bryce. Deol, who had been promoted to open, never looked comfortable and departed for 5?? off 10 balls, giving Delhi an early breakthrough.

If that wasn’t enough, Kapp delivered another lethal blow just three balls later, trapping Litchfield LBW with a sharp in-swinging delivery. The Australian batter misjudged the length, failing to account for the late movement and was caught plumb in front.? A desperate review only confirmed her fate, as Hawk-Eye showed all three reds, making it a golden start for Kapp and the Capitals. The Giants were reeling at 16/2, with both openers back in the pavilion.

Shikha Pandey continues the wreckage with twin strikes

If Giants thought things couldn’t get worse, Shikha ensured their misery deepened. With her very second delivery of the match, Pandey exacted revenge on Mooney, who had struck her for a boundary earlier. Pandey cleverly adjusted her angle and came around the wicket, angling the ball into Mooney. The Giants former captain attempted a pick-up shot towards the longer boundary, but mistimed it completely, offering a simple catch to Niki Prasad at long le??g. The Capitals?camp erupted in joy as Mooney departed for 10 off 11 balls, leaving her team in disarray at 20/3.

Pandey wasn’t done yet. The very next ball, she delivered a well-directed short-pitc??hed delivery that climbed sharply on Gautam. The batter attempted a pull shot but was completely undone by the steep bounce, skying it high towards deep midwicket. Once again, Niki positioned herself perfectly, sprinting in and diving forward to grab an outstanding low catch. With two wickets in two balls, Pandey had completely rattled Gujarat’s top order, reducing them to 20/4 in just 4.3 overs.

The Delhi Capitals are set to face the Gujarat Giants in a crucial match of the Women’s Premier League 2025 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengalur?u on February 25, 2025. This encounter is pivotal for ??both teams as they seek to improve their standings in the league.

Currently positioned fourth in the points table, Capitals have secured two wins and two losses from their four matches. Despite a strong squad, they have struggled with converting starts into substantial scores, with key players like Shafali Verma, Meg Lanning, and Jemimah Rodrigues failing to capitalize on their beginnings.

At the bottom of the table with just one win from three games, Giants are under pressure to perform. They heavily rely on the all-round prowess of their skipper Ashleigh Gardner, who has been their standout performer so far.

Historically, Delhi Capitals have had the upper hand against Gujarat Giants, winning three out of four matches between them. This historical advantage could boost Delhi’s confidence going into the match.

Without a doubt, Ashleigh Gardner is one of the finest players of the game with her outstanding ability to deliver at crucial junctures of the game. The Australian all-rounder is currently leading Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in which the cricketin??g world saw another glimpse of her outstanding commitment to securing important wickets? for her team.

Ashleigh Gardner takes a screamer to send Deepti Sharma back to the pavilion

The incident occurred during the 15th over of the UP Warriorz innings when Shweta Sehrawat and skipper Deepti Sharma were at the crease to get some quick runs for their team. In her quest to display some scenic shots, Sharma went down the ground and exploded on an incoming ball from Priya Mishra, but completely misjudged the speed of the bowl. The delivery edged off her bat instead and sailed high in the air towards the Giants?skipper who dived toward his right to take a breathtaking catch and marked the end of Sharma’s innings. Sharma’s wicket came at a crucial time of the match as it helped the Giants to further restrict Warriorz’s innings and managed to exert further pressure on the visitors’ batting line-up.

A disciplined effort from Gujarat Giants led to their first win in WPL

Giants secured a convincing six-wicket victory over Warriorz in Match 3 of the WPL 2025. Chasing a target of 144, Gujarat reached 144/4 in 18 overs, thanks to a match-winning knock from captain Gardner, who scored a blistering 52 off 32 balls with five fours and three sixes. She was well-supported by Harleen Deol and Deandra Dottin, who ensured a comfortable chase.

Earlier, Warriorz struggled to build momentum, managing 143/9 in their 20 overs. Sophie Ecclestone was the pick of the bowlers for UP, taking 2/16 in her four overs, while Tahlia McGrath and Grace Harris chipped in with a wicket each. However, their efforts were not enough to stop Gujarat from registering their first win of the season. Gardner’s al??l-round brilliance, which included bowling figures of 2/39 in four overs, earned her the Player of the Match award.

Gujarat Giants displayed a dominant all-round performance to outclass UP Warriorz by six wickets in Match 3 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara on Sunday (February 16). A clinical bowling effort, spearheaded by Priya Mishra’s three-wicket haul, restricted UP Warriorz to 143/9, before Gujarat chased down the target with 12 balls to spare, thanks to Ashleigh Gardner’s explosive fifty.

Priya Mishra’s game-changing spell restricts UP Warriorz

The Warriorz struggled to build partnerships after electing to bat first, as the Giants’ bowlers, particularly Priya, struck at crucial junctures. Kiran Navgire started aggressively with 15 off 8 balls but fell early to Deandra Dottin. The middle order saw a brief resurgence through captain Deepti Sharma, who top-scored with 39 off 27 balls, but wickets continued to tumble. Priya’s decisive strikes removed Tahlia McGrath, Grace Harris and Deepti, dismantling UPW’s momentum. A late cameo from Alana King (19 not out) pushed the total to 143/9, but it was below pa??r on a good? batting surface.

Ashleigh Gardner’s brutal fifty steadies Gujarat Giants’ chase

Chasing 144, the Giants suffered an early scare as Beth Mooney and Dayalan Hemalatha departed within the first two overs, leaving them reeling at 2/2. However, Gardner turned the game around with a counter-attacking 52 off 32 balls, finding support from Laura Wolvaardt (22) and Harleen Deol (34 not out). Gardner took on Warriorz’s spinners, striking five fours and three sixes, and stitched a crucial 55-run partnership with Wolvaardt to rebuild the innings. Though she fell to McGrath, Deol and Deandra Dottin (33 not out off 1?8) ensured a comfortable fini?sh, sealing the win in 18 overs.

Sophie Ecclestone’s effort goes in vain as Gujarat dominate

Sophie Ecclestone was the lone bright spot for UP Warriorz with figures of 2/16 in four overs, removing Wolvaardt and Hemalatha. However, the rest of the bowling unit lacked penetration, with King and Saima Thakor conceding 38 and 20 runs in their respective spells. Deepti’s four overs for 32 runs also failed to contain Gujarat’s aggressive approach. The Giants’ depth in batting and disciplined bowling ultimately handed them a well-deserved victory, earning them two crucial points in the tournament.
