The Day 2 of the 4th Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) didn’t start for the Indian team as anticipated. Australian batters Steve Smith and Pat Cummins went on to develop a solid 7th wicket partnership. The Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, failing to get a breakthrough, got more furious and visibly frustrated when an unexpected inte?rr?uption took place during the first session of the second day.

Rohit Sharma shouts at the intruder who breached security to hug Virat Kohli

The incident occurred after the third bowl of the 97th over as Cummins and Smith were on the crease testing the Indian bowlers. The intruder, who was wearing a Free Ukraine T-shirt ran towards Kohli while Rohit tried to get in the middle to stop him. The intruder’s run was initially headed towards Rohit but later on, he changed his trajectory towards the former Indian captain. The MCG guards and even Rohit failed to stop the invader from reaching Kohli. The play had to be halted while security officials acted swiftly to take the intruder off the pitch. But an unplanned halt instigated the Indian skipper who shouted at the intruder once he passed through him. It is now widely speculated that the same person had also invaded the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad during the finals of the ODI World Cup between India and Australia back in 2023.

Meanwhile, the Australian batters completely dominated the morning session of the second day with Smith leading the offensive and went on to score 140 runs before getting dismissed in an unfortunate manner by Indian pacer Akash Deep. Before Smith, Cummins fell short off his half-century as Ravindra Jadeja ended a 112-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Tailender Mitchell Starc too tried to support Smith after Cummins?dismissal but could only add 15 runs to the Australian total. With these courageous knocks, Australians scored 474 runs in their first innings of the Boxing Day?? Test. In response, India have lost two crucial wickets in the form of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul up until now with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Kohli on crease.

The Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) saw an intense moment of confrontation as Indian skipper Rohit Sharma clashed with Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne ov?er repeated violations of the danger zone on the pitch.

Rohit Sharma confronts Marnus Labuschagne over pitch violations

With Australia dominating the first day, Rohit’s frustration was evident when Labuschagne was found running down the center of the pitch, a tactic that could compromise its condition for India’s second innings. In the 50th over, shortly after Usman Khawaja‘s dismissal, Rohit approached Labuschagne at the non-striker’s end and sternly addressed the issue.

Replays confirmed Labuschagne had been consistently treading on the danger zone, but the umpires refrained from taking any action. Rohit took matters into his own hands, warning Labuschagne: “It’s not about ball spinning or not; what is rule is rule. It has been few times now,” The ?Indian captain emphasized that this was Labuschagne’s third violation and urged him to respect the rules.

Labuschagne steers Australia past 200 despite tensions

Following Khawaja’s departure, Labuschagne took charge of the innings. The prolific number three batter showcased his class, mixing caution with aggression to stabilize the innings. Labuschagne’s calm approach further compounded India’s woes as he stitched vital partnerships to steer Australia past 200. However, Labuschagne’s tactics of running down the pitch added an undercurrent of controversy. Despite Rohit’s repeated warnings, Labuschagne appeared unfazed, continuing to run in the danger zone. His resilience at the crease culminated in a gritty 72 off 145 balls, featuring seven boundaries, before he was finally dismissed by Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar.

Steve Smith’s crucial fifty for Australia

Steve Smith emerged as the backbone of Australia’s middle order, scoring currently at 67 runs off 93 balls. His composure under pressure ensured Australia’s innings did not completely unravel. Meanwhile centurion of last two games, Travis Head was dismmised for duck by Jasprit Bumrah. Mitchell Marsh’s struggles with a score of 4 off 13 left Australia teetering at 246/4. Nevertheless, Alex Carey?/strong>s unbeaten ??23 off 30 balls provided some late-order re?silience and adding crucial runs for the sixth wicket with Smith.

Cricket has the potential to bring out all kinds of emotions in both fans and players. While unfortunate incidents are part and parcel of the game, a rare accident occurred involving two Bangladeshi batters during the third T20I against West Indies. The confu?sion that followed after the run-out added fuel to the fire and a player was called back by the umpires from the pavilion to bat once aga?in.

A horrendous mix-up leaves the two batters startled

The incident occurred during the 15th over of the Bangladeshi innings with Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain on the crease and Roston Chase bowling the third delivery of the over. Ali flicked the ball and charged for a quick run to come back for a second. However, Shamim was relatively slow to react as he saw wicket-keeper Nicholas Pooran collecting the ball and throwing it to Chase on the non-striker’s’ end. Clandestinely, he told Ali to stop running for the second run but by that time Ali had gone too far. Ali kept on running towards the striker’s end and managed to reach the crease. However, with no batter reaching the other end of the crease Chase hit the bails.

Thinking that Shamim’s bat had touched the ground before him, Ali walked out of the ground ?furious with the run-out. However a replay of the whole mix-up revealed that Shamim’s bat was in fact in mid-air by the time Ali reached the striker’s end. Therefore, the umpires ultimately ruled Shamim as the one run-out by Chase. Ali was called upon from the Bangladeshi dressing room to resume batting.

Ali’s dismissal might have saved West Indies from a humiliating defeat in the final T20I of the th?ree-match series. He was playing on 17 runs in 16 deliveries. However, with the luck favouring him, Ali went on to score an emphatic 72-run knock off 41 balls. His contribution helped Bangladesh put a competitive total on board which the home team failed to chase down and ended up losing th?e match.

Ravindra Jadeja delivered a memorable performance on Friday (November 1) in the third Test between India and New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The left-arm spinner, showcasing his impeccable control and experience, ripped through New Zealand’s batting lineup to claim his 14th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. His stellar spell concluded with a remarkable dismissal of Matt Henry for a first-ball duck, sealing a commanding position for I??ndia. This spell was not just crucial in the context of the match but also significant in Jadeja’s journey, as he surpassed milestones that placed him among India’s all-time greats.

Challenging conditions for New Zealand at the start

Winning the toss and opting to bat, New Zealand entered with confidence but quickly faced difficulties on a pitch that began to show signs of wear from the first session. The surface offered both turn and bounce, with a variable pace that kept Indian spinners interested. Three early wickets fell in the morning session, though Jadeja remained wicketless as he found his rhythm. Despite the conditions, New Zealand’s Will Young and Daryl Mitchell seemed to stabilize the innings, building an 87-run stand and showing s??igns of a comeback. However, this effort was short-lived as Jadeja began his lethal spell after lunch, dismantling the Blackcaps lineup.

Ravindra Jadeja’s spell: A perfectly timed breakthrough and a five-wicket Haul

Jadeja’s first breakthrough came at a crucial juncture. The experienced left-arm spinner broke the threatening stand between Young and Mitchell, with Young pushing forward to a delivery that turned just enough to kiss the edge and land safely in slip’s hands. This opening wicket seemed to unlock Jadeja’s full potential. Just three balls later, he bowled a stunning delivery to wicketkeeper-batter Tom Blundell, pitching on middle and leg and turning to take the top of off stump. Not long after, he added Glenn Phillips to his tally, dismis??sing him with a straighter ball that darted in to crash into the stumps. By tea, Jadeja’s three-wicket haul had dented New Zealand’s progress, shifting momentum firmly in India’s favor.

Returning in the third session, Jadeja showed no signs of slowing down. He dismissed Ish Sodhi and Henry in the same over, mark?ing his? second double-wicket over of the day. This fifth wicket marked yet another impactful performance from the all-rounder, underscoring his value in the Indian lineup with a sublime five-wicket haul.

Additionally, he matched the legendary Bishan Singh Bedi’s tally of 14 five-wicket hauls, achieved in 118 innings compared to Jadeja’s 145, demonstrating his prowess in India’s bowling legacy. He also became India’s highest wicket-taking left-arm bowler, marking a historic achievement. Jadeja’s performance was a testament to? his skill and experience, reinforcing his standing as one of India’s premier Test match-winners. His brilliant spell left New Zealand struggling to recover, showcasing the impact of his return to form.

Washington Sundar made a sensational impact on the third Test match against New Zealand in Mumbai, claiming the pivotal wickets of Tom Latham and Rachin Ravindra with outstanding deliveries on Day 1. His spell not only showcased his exceptional bowling prowess but also highlighted India’s strategic advantage in the match. At lunch, New Zealand found themselves in a precarious position, sitting at 92 for 3 after 27 overs, with Will Young unbeaten on 38 and Daryl Mitchell at the crease with 11 runs.

The wicket of Tom Latham: Washington Sundar’s magical delivery

Sundar first delivered a stunning breakthrough by dismissing Tom Latham, one of New Zealand’s key batter. The ball was bowled full and pitched around off stump, enticing Latham to come forward to defend. As the ball landed, it exhibited subtle straightening, a hallmark of Sundar’s skillful bowling. Latham, anticipating the delivery, aimed to block it, but the ball cleverly deviated past his outside edge, resulting in a dramatic kiss on the outer half of the off stump. This dismissal came at a crucial juncture when New Zealand was 59 for 2, placing pressure on the batting side. Latham’s innings ended at 28 runs off 44 balls, which included three boundaries.

Here’s the video:

The wicket of Rachin Ravindra: Sundar’s unplayable ball

Sundar continued to assert his dominance by claiming the wicket of Rachin Ravindra, who had been the standout performer in the series. The delivery was a full ball pitched around off stump, aiming to draw Ravindra into a defensive stroke. The key moment came when the ball, upon pitching, turned slightly away from the batter, creating an opening in Ravindra’s defense. Eager to play a defensive shot, Ravindra misjudged the line, allowing the ball to sneak past his bat and clip the off stump, ending his innings at a mere 5 runs. This wicket fell when New Zealand was positioned at 72 for 3, intensifying the pressure on their batting order. Ravindra’s dismissal was particularly significant given his reputation as the series’ highest run-scorer, marking a vital moment for India.

Early breakthrough by Akash Deep for India

The match unfolded dramatically as New Zealand’s captain, Latham, won the toss and opted to bat first, hoping to set a challenging target on a pitch that promised assistance to bowlers. India, meanwhile, made a notable change to their lineup, resting Jasprit Bumrah and bringing in Mohammed Siraj to strengthen their attack.

India’s innings commenced with a burst of energy from Akash Deep, who quickly set the tone for the day. He trapped Devon Conway in front of the stumps with a sharp nip-backer, sending the opener back to the pavilion for a mere 4 runs. This early breakthrough put New Zealand on the back foot, creating pressure that would carry into the rest of the innings. The loss of Conway meant that captain Latham had to regroup with Young, as they sought to stabilize the innings and build a foundation for their team’s total.

Latham and Will Young forge a partnership for New Zealand

As the innings progressed, Latham and Young formed a resilient partnership, helping New Zealand recover from the initial setback. Together, they navigated through a challenging phase, steadily pushing the score past the 50-run mark. Their efforts were critical in restoring some confidence within the batting lineup. However, Sundar, displaying exceptional skill and precision, disrupted their progress ?by delivering crucial two-wickets spell before the lunch.

In a positive development for Indian cricket, Mohammed Shami demonstrated impressive form during a recent nets session, catching the attention of assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. Shami, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury, was seen bowling at near full intensity, working alongside young opener Shubman Gill, who also missed the first Test against New Zealand due to a stiff neck. This practice session marked a significant milestone in Shami’s recovery, as he focused on his rhythm and fitness while sporting heavy str?apping on his left knee.

Mohammad Shami’s net session: Bowling to Shubman Gill and Abhishek Nayar

During the session, Shami, dressed in a sleeveless black t-shirt and shorts, concentrated on his line and length. Bowling primarily around the wicket to Nayar, he consistently found good areas while also surprising with sharp, short-pitched deliveries. When bowling to Gill, Shami opted for a shorter run-up, showcasing his technical precision under the watchful eyes of bowling coach Morne Morkel. This training not only allowed Shami to refine his bowling rhythm but also s??erved as a crucial step towards achieving full fitness.

Here are the videos:

Impact of Shami’s absence on India’s Performance against New Zealand

India’s recent loss to New Zealand in the first Test has intensified discussions regarding Shami’s absence, which many attribute to a lack of pace in the bowling attack. The combination of Shami and Jasprit Bumrah has been vital for India’s success, particularly in Test matches. Shami’s ability to generate swing and speed has been sorely missed, raising concerns about the team’s performance in challenging conditions. Although not part of the squad for the ongoing New Zealand series, there is growing speculation about his readiness for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

Shami’s Journey: Overcoming injury and preparing for a comeback

Shami has been recuperating since the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, where he played through an ankle injury in the final. Following India’s defeat to Australia, Shami underwent ankle surgery and has been diligently rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. His absence has been felt not just in international fixtures but also in the IPL, where he withdrew due to fitness concerns. Shami’s contributions as one of India’s premier fast bowlers have been crucial, making his anticipated return a focal point for both the team and supporters.

Shami’s fitness and the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy

With Shami now bowling at full intensity, there is renewed hope for his return ahead of India’s critical tour of Australia. His recent training sessions with Nayar and Morkel suggest steady progress in his recovery. Initially expected to rejoin the team for the ongoing Test series against New Zealand, Shami was ruled out due to concerns about his fitness. Captain Rohit Sharma had previously noted that Shami’s knee was still swollen before the series, but his current training indicates a commitment to regaining full match readiness. As the BGT approaches, Shami’s fitness will be closely monitored, as his experience and skills will be essential for India’s success in the high-stakes series against Australia.

Pakistan‘s off-spinner Sajid Khan delivered a remarkable bowling performance on Day 3 of the 2nd Test against England in Multan, picking up his second five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Sajid’s brilliant spell of 7/111 in 26.2 overs dismantled the England batting lineup, giving Pakistan a commanding position in the match. His spell is now the best-ever bowling figures at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Alongside fellow spinner Noman Ali, Sajid spun a web around England’s batters, sharing all 10 wickets to bundle the visi??tors out for 291. This left England trailing by 75 runs in the first innings.

Sajid Khan’s 7-wicket haul: Turning the game around

England, who had looked strong at 211/2 thanks to Ben Duckett‘s aggressive century, collapsed dramatically after Sajid’s introduction. Duckett’s 114 off 129 balls had placed the visitors in a dominant position, but Sajid’s persistence sparked an astonishing turnaround. The off-spinner claimed the key wickets of Ollie Pope (29), Joe Root (34) and Duckett, breaking England’s backbone. His delivery to remove  captain Harry Brook was a peach?, while Duckett’s dismissal halted the momentum England had built.

It was on Day 2 that Sajid’s magic truly began to unfold. England crumbled from 211/2 to 225/6 in a matter of overs, largely due to Sajid’s late flurry of wickets. His spell triggered a collapse that saw England lose five wickets in the final session. Sajid’s accurate line and sharp turn proved too much for the England batters, as they struggled to cope with his variations.

On Day 3, Sajid returned to complete his five-wicket haul, first removing Brydon Carse and then swiftly finishing England’s innings by dismissing Matthew Potts and Shoaib Bashir. The collapse was complete as England were all out for 291 in 67.2 overs. The Pakistan team celebrated Sajid’s milestone with an emotional gathering, a moment captured and shared on Pakistan Cricket’s social media channels.

Fall of England batters against Sajid in Multan

1. Ollie Pope – Bowled (125/2, 23.3 overs)

Dismissal: Sajid’s first wicket came at a crucial moment when England was looking to consolidate their position. Pope, who was settling in at 29, attempted a risky drive against the turn. The ball, delivered from outside off, sharply spun back after hitting the rough patches, sneaking through Pope’s defenses and crashing into the stumps. Pope’s aggressive intent backfired as he was beaten by the turn and sharpness of Sajid’s delivery.

2. Joe Root – Bowled (211/3, 41.3 overs)

Dismissal: Sajid’s second breakthrough came with the prized wicket of Root. Root, who had scored 34 runs, went for an expansive sweep shot off a full ball outside off. However, the ball took a bottom edge and ricocheted onto the stumps. Root, playing from a wide stance, was undone by Sajid’s flight and placement, dragging the ball onto his stumps, much to the delight of the Pakistan camp.

3. Ben Duckett – Caught (224/4, 43.1 overs)

Dismissal: Centurion Duckett had been the mainstay of England’s innings with a brilliant 114. Sajid, nevertheless, forced a mistake from Duckett with a ball that pitched full and turned away from the left-hander. Duckett attempted a drive through the off side but only managed to edge the ball to first slip, where Agha Salman took a sharp catch. This dismissal marked the turning point in England’s innings, as Duckett’s wicket triggered a collapse.

4. Harry Brook – Bowled (225/5, 43.6 overs)

Dismissal: Sajid continued his dominance by bowling Brook for just 9. Brook, trying to counter the spin, backed away from a length delivery outside off. He exposed his stumps in an attempt to push at the ball, but it sharply turned back in, beating his ??bat and smashing the stumps. This was another example of Sajid’s excellent control over line and turn, leaving Brook with no answers.

5. Brydon Carse – Caught (248/7, 57.2 overs)

Dismissal: Sajid completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Carse. Carse, struggling at the crease, tried to break the shackles by advancing down the pitch and looking for a big shot. Nonetheless, he mistimed his shot and picked out the fielder at long-on, Saud Shakeel, who safely held on to the catch. Sajid celebrated with his signature Ga??bbar pose, enjoying the moment of getting his fifth wicket.

6. Matthew Potts – Bowled (256/8, 59.4 overs)

Dismissal: Potts, looking unsettled against the spin, became Sajid’s sixth victim. The ball, pitched wide outside off,?? turned sharply and went through Potts?legs as he awkwardly walked across his stumps. The ball scooted through t?o hit the middle stump, leaving Potts completely outwitted. Sajid’s delivery, likened to a ‘nutmeg,?showcased his ability to deceive even the most solid defenses.

7. Shoaib Bashir – Caught (291/10, 67.2 overs)

Dismissal: Sajid completed his incredible seven-wicket haul by dismissing Shoaib Bashi??r, who toe-ended a s?weep straight to short midwicket. Bashir, trying to sweep a full ball, mistimed the shot and was caught by Shan Masood. With this wicket, Sajid wrapped up the England innings, leading his team off the field with his second Test five-wicket haul, and a remarkable personal milestone.

After the conclusion of the India-Bangladesh Test series, Team India skipper Rohit Sharma and legendary batter Virat Kohli received a heartfelt surprise from Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Following India’s comprehensive 2-0 victory in the series, Mehidy, who co-founded the bat company ‘MKS Sports’ last year with Imrul Kayes and a few friends, decided to gift personalized bats to both Kohli and Rohit as a token of app?reciation.

A thoughtful gesture for Rohit Sharma

In a video posted on the official MKS Sports Facebook page, Mehidy expressed his admiration for Rohit and shared that he had always wanted to present him with a bat. He said, “I am with Rohit bhai, and I gifted him a bat from my company. I always wished to give him a bat and so I am very happy.” Rohit, touched by the gesture, praised Mehidy for his entrepreneurial venture. The Indian captain said, “I’ve known Mehidy for a long time. He is a very good cricketer. I’m proud of him for starting his own bat company with his friends. I wish him all the best; may God grant him success, and I hope his company surpasses all others,?/em>

With a smile, Kohli said, “Khoob bhalo achi (it’s very good),” referring to the quality of the bat. He added, “Wish you all the best. India’s commanding 2-0 series victory over Bangladesh

India wrapped up a dominant 2-0 series triumph over Bangladesh, further solidifying their position at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 rankings. Despite the Kanpur Test being affected by rain, which washed out two full days of play, India managed to secure a seven-wicket win. Bangladesh initially sho??wed some fight, but India’s batting depth and clinical bowling turned the tide in their favor.

This victory in Kanpur followed India’s commanding performance in the first Test in Chennai, where they posted a resounding 280-run win. India’s bowlers, led by a disciplined attack, stifled the Bangladeshi lineup, while the Indian batters responded with big scores in both Tests, underlining their dominance throughout the series.

While Mehidy Hasan will continue to feature in the upcoming T20I series against India, Rohit and Virat will enjoy a brief break before the team’s next assignment against New Zealand. This memorable exchange of gifts between the Indian stalwarts and the young Bangladeshi all-rounder stands as a testament to the camaraderie and mutual respect share?d among cricketers on and off the field.

His ability to extract turn from the pitch and dismiss key players, including Wayne Madsen on 47, was instrumental. Chahal’s control and ??guile helped Northamptonshire bowl Derbyshi??re out for just 165, giving his team the upper hand.

Previous heroics in the One-Day Cup and overall impact

Chahal’s exceptional form extends beyond red-ball cricket. In his only One-Day Cup match for Northamptonshire, he delivered another five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5/14 against Kent, his former team.

Chahal’s contributions have made him a valuable asset to Northamptonshire in the ongoing English summer. Despite a slow start in his first two County Championship matches, where he managed only one wicket, the leg-spinner has now hit his str??ide. His outstanding performance against Derbyshire reinforces his growing importance to Northamptonshire’s campaign this season.

Last representation for India

Chahal had a brief stint with Kent in the County Championship Division One last year, where he took nine wickets in two matches. Chahal last represented India in a warm-up match against Bangladesh during the T20 World Cup 2024 in New York. Although selected for the tournament, Chahal d??id not feature in any of India’s o?fficial matches. However, his current county performances may serve as a reminder of his capabilities across formats.
