The Champions Trophy 2025 is right around the corner with teams gearing up to face each other and stake their claim on the coveted trophy. Before the coveted ICC tournament begins, almost all teams are suffering several injury concerns with several key players set to miss the tournament. The Indian team’s situation has not been any different in this regard. The team had to readjust and tweak its squad to balance the team dynamics due to numerous key players being unavailable. However, not everyone is happy with the kind of squad India has chosen for the much-anticipated ICC tournament. Amidst growing skepticism, Ravichandran Ashwin has now voiced his co??ncern regard?ing the team selection.

Ashwin raises concern over India’s selection strategy for the Champions Trophy

Ashwin raised concerns over the logic behind India‘s squad selection for the upcoming Champions Trophy, particularly the inclusion of five spinners at the expense of a key player like Yashasvi Jaiswal. India’s young batting sensation was initially part of the provisional squad but was later omitted to make way for mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy. He has now been relegated to the non-traveling substitutes list alongside Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube.

Speaking on his YouTube show ‘Ash ki Baat,’ Ashwin expressed his surprise at the decision, citing recent conditions in Dubai, which have not favoured spin as much. He referenced the ILT20 tournament as an example, questioning whether selecting so many spinners was the right call. Ashwin’s remarks highlight concerns about the balance of the squad and whether the selectors have misread the pitch conditions, potentially weakening India’s batting depth in a crucial tournament.

“What I don’t understand is the number of spinners we are taking to Dubai. Five spinners, and we have made Yashasvi Jaiswal sit out. Yeah, I understand taking three or four spinners for a tour. But five in Dubai? I don’t know. I think we are one spinner too many, if not two, I don’t think there is any doubt that Kuldeep Yadav will walk into the team. So how will you make space for Varun? Is he bowling well? Of course. Either you bring in Varun and Kuldeep as a duo, which I feel would be good. But my question is, in Dubai, are you expecting the ball to turn? In the recently held ILT20, we saw that the ball was not turning that much in Dubai and teams were chasing 180-run totals with ease. I feel a bit uncomfortable with this team,” Ashwin remarked.

Ashwin shocked at Yashasvi Jaiswal’s exclusion

Ashwin further voiced his bewilderment over the omission of young opener Jaiswal, implying that the decision has left him perplexed. Jaiswal was widely expe??cted to be a key?? member of the Champions Trophy squad. His exclusion from the final squad has raised eyebrows, especially given his promising form and potential to provide solidity at the top of the order.

“I am honestly glad that I am not in a position of explaining things to Yashasvi Jaiswal. If I was the coach or captain, what would I even tell him? I raise this question many times – what message are you sending to a player? Yashasvi was bringing water for the players. I was thinking, what would be going on in his mind? He would have been happy that he would be in the Champions Trophy team. And now suddenly he is not in the team. It’s the same for anybody who misses out,” the former Indian off-spinner concluded.

India are set to play their group stage fixtures of the Champions Trophy with their opening encounter against Bangladesh, followed by a clash against arch-rivals Pakistan and their last match against New Zealand.

The recent Valentine’s Day post of model-cum-actress Natasa Stankovic has sparked significant speculation among fans, particularly in light of her separation from Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya.

Former India cricketer and analyst Aakash Chopra has sparked debate by suggesting the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, set to begin on February 19, could mark the final international tournament for stalwarts Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja. The trio, integral to India’s success for over a decade, may opt to bow out of ICC events po?st the eight-nation spectacle, with the 2027 ODI World Cup?? deemed too far in their career trajectories.

Retirement speculations of Indian trio gains momentum

Kohli (36), Rohit (37) and Jadeja (36) announced their T20I retirements after India’s 2024 T20 World Cup triumph, fuelling speculation about their ODI futures. Chopra, in his recent YouTube video, emphasized the Champions Trophy as a fitting finale, citing age and the absence of imminent ICC opportunities. “I am saying with a heavy heart… There is a strong possibility. The Champions Trophy is about to happen and after that, there will be another ICC event this year, which is the WTC final and we haven’t reached there. So none among Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja will play that,â€?/em> Chopra said.

“After that, the ICC event next year is the T20 World Cup but all three have retired from that format. So all three won’t play there as well,” the cricketer-turned-commentator added.

Despite fluctuating Test performances, the trio showca?sed their ODI prowess during India’s recent series win over England. Kohli, a linchpin in? ICC events, remains critical at the top order, while Rohit aims to cap his captaincy tenure with a third Champions Trophy title. Jadeja’s dual role as a spin all-rounder continues to bolster India’s balance.

Champions Trophy 2025: A farewell Campaign for Kohli, Rohit and Jadeja?

India, grouped with big teams like Pakistan and New Zealand, will open their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Karachi. The tournament offers a platform for the veterans to cement their legacies, with Chopra noting, “The ODI World Cup will be in 2027, which is a bit too far. The world will look very different by 2027. I think the players also feel this could be their last”

As fans brace for a potential transition, the trio’s experience could prove pivotal in navigating high-pressure clashes.

While uncertainties linger, one truth remains: should ?this be their ICC s?wansong, Kohli, Rohit and Jadeja will vie to script a farewell befitting their monumental contributions to Indian cricket.

Former England batter Kevin Pietersen has revealed his preferred India playing XI for their opening game upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against Bangladesh, which will take place on February 20.

Kevin Pietersen picks India’s playing XI: Key omissions

His selection notably excluded pacer Harshit Rana, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, and the spin duo of Varun Chakravarthy and Washington Sundar. Harshit Rana, who made his ODI debut against England, played all three matches in the recent series. He was later named in India’s final Champions Trophy squad, replacing Jasprit Bumrah, who was initially part of the provisional squad. Meanwhile, Varun Chakravarthy also earned his ODI cap in the same series and eventually secured a spot in the final squad, replacing Yashasvi Jaiswal. Despite these in?clusions, Pietersen opted against selecting th??em in his playing XI.

Pietersen on his bowling choices

Before announcing his final XI on Star Sports, Pietersen explained his reasoning for choosing Kuldeep Yadav over Chakravarthy and Arshdeep Singh over Rana in the pace attack.

“Chakravarthy has been very good, but I think Kuldeep has been outstanding in terms of his performances and the numbers he has produced. I like having a left-arm seamer, so that’s why Arshdeep starts for me. The three seamers in my XI would be Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya. Then, of course, Jadeja is always my first pick, and the rest of the spin attack consists of Kuldeep and Axar Patel,” Pietersen said.

Pietersen on India’s batting order

Pietersen believed India’s top order is shaping up well for the Champions ??Trophy 2025, highlighting the strong performances of key batters. Speaking on Star Sports, he emphasized the importance of KL Rahul batting at No. 5, ensuring he gets enough time at the crease to build an innings.

“One thing they’ll be happy about is that Virat Kohli got runs today. So Rohit’s got runs. Gill, Shreyas… it’s a pretty formidable start, I tell you that. I want KL Rahul at No. 5 because I want him to face more deliveries. He came in today with 17 overs to go, which allowed him time to settle and construct his innings. I don’t see KL Rahul as the kind of batter who walks in with three overs left and smashes 30 off 12 balls. He needs time to get himself in, especially in one-day cricket, and the best way to give him that opportunity is to bat him at No. 5,” Pietersen concluded.

Pietersen’s comments indicate his preference for a structured batting lineup, with Rahul playing a stabilizing role in the middle order, rather than being used as a finisher. His views also suggest confidence in India’s top four, comprising Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, as the team prepares for the high-stakes ??Champions Trophy in the UAE.

The Champions Trophy 2025 is around the corner with preparations of the participating teams in full swing. However, amidst the coveted ICC tournament’s arrival, the Indian camp is still clouded with the controversial decision that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took after India’s defeat against Australia in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The decision that BCCI took centered around player conduct during overseas tours and guidelines for players around bringing family and other acqua?intances during such events. Over time, the board has toned down a bit on the guidelines but has not taken its verdict back. Despite this, a PTI report suggested that a senior Indian team player approached the board to make an exception, but the board rejected it.

BCCI’s toned-down stance on bringing playerspeers during overseas tours

In a new development, the BCCI appears firm in its original stanc?e but may allow certain exceptions regarding player accommodations for the Champions Trophy. According to the PTI report, while the board remains steadfast in its policy, players wishing to bring their families along will have to cover the expenses themselves.

According to the report, a senior Team India player recently sought an exemption, hoping for special consideration, but his request was ultimately denied, rei?nforcing t??he board’s strict approach to the matter.

“If anything changes then it is different, but as of now, the players are unlikely to be accompanied by their wives or partners for this tour. One of the senior players had enquired about it and he was told that the policy decision will be followed, since the tour is of less than one month, families won’t be accompanying the players. But if exceptions are made, I think that individual will have to bear the full expenses as the BCCI won’t be covering any cost,” a BCCI source told PTI.

What was BCCI’s 10-point diktat?

The BCCI had implemented new guidelines to enhance team cohesion, discipline, and commitment to domestic cricket. Under these regulations, players must participate in domestic tourn??aments to remain eligible for national selection, with exemptions granted only? in exceptional cases. The board has also reinforced strict team travel protocols, prohibiting individual arrangements unless specifically approved by the Head Coach and Selection Committee Chairman. Additionally, personal staff, such as hairdressers and nannies, will no longer be allowed on tours without prior authorization from the BCCI.

To foster team bonding and continuity, players are required to stay with the squad until the completion of a series or tour. Non-compliance with these rules may result in disciplinary actions, including fines or suspensions. The BCCI had also introduced a revised family travel policy, permitting playersfamilies to join tours exceeding 45 days, with shared accommodation costs covered by the board. Furthermore, players must adhere to baggage restrictions, attend full practice sessions, refrain from personal endorsements during tours, and prior?itize BCCI-related activities. These measures aim to maintain professi?onalism, focus, and unity within the team.

As the countdown to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 begins, the debate over India’s best playing XI continues to gain momentum. Former Indian cricketer and commentator Deep Dasgupta has shared his thoughts on the select??ion ??dilemma, particularly addressing the wicketkeeping role.

With KL Rahul likely to bat at No.5 in the tournament, Dasgupta has suggested that if the Karnataka lad does not feature in the top-order, Rishabh Pant should replace him in the playing XI.

Selection Debate: KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant?

KL Rahul has been a key figure in India’s middle order in ODIs, often balancing the innings with his composed batting. However, during the recent ODI series against England, he batted in multiple positions, with mixed results. His 40 off 29 balls in the third ODI showed glimpses of his ability, but questions remain about his suitability for the high-pressure Champions Trophy.

On the other hand, Rishabh Pant’s aggressive approach and explosive batting make him a strong contender for the wicketkeeper’s role. Known for his ability to take on bowlers in crunch situations, Pant could provide th?e X-factor India needs in the middle order. Dasgupta believes that Pant’s game-changing ability with the bat makes him a better fit for the team, especially in conditions where attacking batting could be crucial.

Bowlers to lead India’s charge

Another crucial aspect of Dasgupta’s selection is the pace attack. With Jasprit Bumrah ruled out due to injury, the onus will be on the experienced Mohammed Shami and the young Arshdeep Singh to spearhead Ind?ia’s bowling lineup. Shami, with his knack for picking wickets in crucial moments, an??d Arshdeep, known for his ability to swing the ball and deliver in death overs, form a balanced pairing.

The spin attack is equally formidable, with Kuldeep Yadav’s wrist spin and the all-round abilities of Axar Patel and Washington Sundar offering depth and variety. Their presence provides India with flexibility, especially in conditions favouring slow bowling.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to begin on February 19, with India taking on Banglades??h in their opening match. India wi?ll play all their games in Dubai (UAE), making conditions a significant factor in team selections and strategies.

With India aiming for glory, getting the team combination right will be crucial. As the squad finalization approaches, the management will have to make tough decisions, particularly regarding the wicketkeeping conundrum between Rahul and Pant. As the cricketing world gears up for the much-anticipated return of the ICC Champions Trophy, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has put an end to the speculation surrounding the team’s first-choice wicketkeeper. In a decisive statement, Gambhir confirmed that the current Delhi Capitals player will don the gloves ahead of Rishabh Pant for the upcoming tournament, which kicks off on February 19. This announcement comes after a series of strategic adjustments in the Indian lineup, particularly following the team’s recent performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) and the ODI series against England.

Gautam Gambhir gives his verdict on India’s wicketkeeping conundrum

The debate over India’s preferred wicketkeeper has been a hot topic among fans and experts alike. Pant, known for his explosive batting and match-winning performances, was India’s primary wicketkeeper during the BGT in Australia. However, Gambhir’s pick KL Rahul, a versatile player who has seamlessly transitioned between roles, took over the gloves in the ODI series against England, leaving Pant on the bench. His decision to stick with ??R??ahul underscores the team’s emphasis on consistency and adaptability.

KL (Rahul) is the number-one wicketkeeper, and he has delivered for us,” Gambhir stated in the post-match press conference, highlighting Rahul’s contributions in recent matches.

From a specialist batter to wicketkeeper

Rahul’s journey in the Indian team has been nothing short of remarkable. Initially playing as a specialist batter, Rahul has embraced the additional respon?sibility of wicketkeeping with aplomb. His ability to balance both roles has made?? him an invaluable asset to the team. In the third ODI against England, Rahul showcased his batting prowess with a brisk 40 off 29 balls, including three fours and a six, helping India secure a commanding 142-run victory.

Rahul’s calm demeanour under pressure and his ability to adapt to different situations have earned him the trust of the team management. As Gambhir pointed out, em>Ultimately, it’s very difficult to talk about individuals, but all I can say is that if he’s part of the squad, he might get an opportunity when the time comes./p>

Rishabh Pant’s challenge for the big stage

While Rahul has bee?n given the nod for the Champions Trophy, Pant remains a crucial part of India’s plans. Gambhir’s message to Pant was clear: be prepared for any opportunity. Pant’s aggressive batting style and ability to change the course of a game in a matter of overs make him a formidable option. However, with Rahul currently in form, Pant will need to bide his time and stay ready for his chance to shine.

em>When you have two wicketkeepers in the squad, you can’t play both, given the quality we have. Hopefully, whenever he gets an opportunity, he should be ready,Gambhir said.

India’s road to the Champions Trophy

After completing a dominant 3-0 series sweep against England, India are now focused on fine-tuning their preparations for the Champions Trophy. The team will open their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai, ??with Rahul expected to play a pivotal role as the fi??rst-choice wicketkeeper.

The return of the Champions Trophy after a seven-year hiatus ??adds an extra layer of excitement to the tournament. With Gambhir’s clear vision and Rahul’s consistent performances, India will be aiming to make a strong statement on the global stage.

The anticipation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is reaching new heights as teams gear up for the prestigious event set to take place in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Scheduled to begin on February 19, the tournament marks the return of the 50-over? competition after an eight-year gap, with top teams vying for glory.

For India, the focus remains on assembling a formidable squad capable of adapting to the conditions in both host nations. With spinners likely to play a crucial role, the team management has mad??e some strategic selections t??o bolster their bowling attack.

Gautam Gambhir names India’s X-Factor for the tournament

Former Indian cricketer and current India head coach Gautam Gambhir has identified mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy as India’s potential ‘X-factorâ€?for the Champions Trophy 2025. Speaking after India’s third ODI against England, Gambhir highlighted the value that the unorthodox bowler brings to the team, particularly against opponents unfamiliar with his variat?ions.

“See, the only reason was that we wanted to have another wicket-taking option in the middle. We know what Varun brings to the table and know that Varun can be a big threat for many teams who haven’t played him. He can also be an X-factor,” said Gambhir in the post-match presser.

The decision to include Chakravarthy in India’s Champions Trophy squad came as a surprise to many, given that he has not been a regular in the ODI setup. However, Gambhir explained that his selection was based on the need for an additional attacking option in the middle overs.

“I am not saying he is going to start and everything else, but it is always good to have a strong bowling line-up because we know if he can actually get wickets in the middle, it will always be beneficial and that was one of the reasons,” added Gambhir.
