On Monday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi responded asse?rtively to hi?s critics, emphasizing his commitment to delivering results. Naqvi stated that he remains focused on his objectives and is unconcerned with the opinions of those who question his understanding of the game.

PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi blasts the journalist

Mohsin Naqvi, a businessman-turned-politician who previously served as the caretaker chief minister of Punjab Province before this year’s general elections, expressed frustration when a journalist questioned his cricketing knowledge, asserting that he focuses on delivering results for the PCB. He underscored that his experience and commitment to the role matter most, despite any doubts about his cricketing expertise. Naqvi also announced the formation of advisory board headed by Waqar Younis

“Time will tell how much I know about cricket but we are here to deliver. I don’t care about what people say but you will see the results, I am bringing in former stars to vet and improve the cricket system and end this culture of personal likes and dislikes. We will vet this new domestic structure into the constitution as well so that in future it cannot be changed,” he said.

Naqvi introduces new domestic structure for Pakistan’s cricket improvisation

Naqvi announced that the new domestic structure will be introduced next month. It will feature five teams, each comprising 30 players. These teams will compete in various Champions tournaments, in??cluding first-class, 50-over, and T20 matches.

“Each team will be supervised by a reputable former stalwart and he will be given three years to manage and get results,”  Naqvi concluded.

Further emph?asizing on the structure the committee head Waqar said he agreed and liked the concept of the new system and resources would be spent to s?trengthen domestic cricket.

Each team will have a support staff of some 10 people including coaches. We will appoint five legends to head the teams and I am already in touch with some of them, the former Pakistan fast bowler said. Cricket remains our product and we have to play good cricket to maintain our brand. All rest comes later,” Waqar concluded.

Former Pakistan cricketer Waqar Younis recently unveiled his picks for Pakistan‘s squad in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, slated to be held in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA) from June 1. With his extensive experience of over 300 international matches, Younis offered insights into the composition of Pakistan’s lineup for the prestigious tournament, crucial for their bid to secure the T20 World Cup title.

Waqar Younis reveals Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad picks

Younis’s selections come ahead of the looming deadline on May 1 for the official squad announcement. Currently engaged in commentary duties for the ongoing five-match T20I series between Pakistan and New Zealand??, Younis was posed with the question of which players he would favor for the World Cup squad.

Top-order power and middle order assurance

In his envisioned lineup, Younis opted for a formidable top-order trio comprising Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman and Usman Khan, bolstering the batting lineup alongside skipper Babar Azam. Despite Azam Khan‘s absence from the ongoing series due to injury, Younis included him in the middle order, showcasing confidence in his potential return to form and fitness.

“This is what I feel, if they are all fit, I think this is my squad with Babar Azam, Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman, three openers. Then you got [Mohammad] Rizwan, Usman Khan, I think he needs to go to the World Cup. And then, of course, you have Azam Khan, if you’re going to have two wicketkeepers then he should be in the side as he is another match-winner,” Younis was quoted as saying by Geo Super.

Spin-oriented approach

When it came to the all-rounders, Younis leaned towards a spin-oriented approach, selecting Shadab Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed and Imad Wasim, indicating a strategic preference for versatility and spin options in the squad. Furthermore, Younis fortified the spin arsenal by incorporating wrist spinners Abrar Ahmed and Usama Mir into the mix.

“Iftikhar [Ahmed], Shadab [Khan] definitely comes in the side automatically, Imad Wasim and Abrar [Ahmed], I feel that you’d be needing a mystery spinner, that is why I have gone with him, then Usama Mir, I think Pakistan might need another spinner there in the West Indies and United States,” the 52-year-old added.

Pace prowess

In the pace department, Younis envisioned Shaheen Afridi leading the charge, backed by the seasoned experience of Naseem Shah, Mohammad Amir and a recovering Haris Rauf. This selection strategy emphasized Younis’s inclination towards prioritizing experienced campaigners and proven talent over budding prospects like Abbas Afridi and Zaman Khan, who are currently part of the team facing New Zealand but did not secure a spot in Younis’s projected squad for the T20 World Cup.

“And then the four pacers, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Amir and Haris Rauf, if he is fit,” Waqar concluded.

betvisa loginWaqar Younis – Cricket Times - betvisa888 bet //betvisa68.com/2024/04/pakistan-selector-wahab-riaz-discloses-the-reason-behind-shaheen-afridis-removal-as-captain/ Wed, 10 Apr 2024 17:31:19 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=130553

In recent developments within Pakistan cricket, Shaheen Afridi‘s tenure as the captain of the T20I team has come to an end, paving the way for Babar Azam to reassume leadership responsibilities ahead of the forthcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand.

Shaheen Afridi’s removal and Babar Azam’s reappointment

Shaheen’s elevation to the captaincy of Pakistan’s T20I team came in the wake of Babar’s resignation following Pakistan’s early exit from the ODI World Cup 2023. However, the dream of having a promising and fresh start under Shaheen’s leadership soon dwindled as Pakistan suffered a comprehensive 1-4 defeat in New Zealand in January.

Matters only worsened with Lahore Qalandars, the franchise he led in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 campaign, languishing at the bottom of the points table. Consequently, the string of poor performances led to Shaheen’s removal from the captaincy role, paving the way for Babar’s reinstatement as the skipper of the national team.

Wahab Riaz sheds light on the motive behind removing Shaheen

Now Pakistan’s selector and men’s team manager, Wahab Riaz explained that the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to manage Shaheen’s workload stemmed from their recognition of his pivotal role as the team’s primary strike bowler, emphasizing the necessity to maintain his fitness for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Additionally, Wahab highlighted that while Babar may not have won any trophies as captain thus far, his extensive experience in leadership roles made him the most suitable candidate for the captainc??y, particularly given the circumstances prevailing at the moment.

“We wanted to manage Shaheen Afridi’s workload because he’s our main strike bowler and we need him completely fit for the World Cup. Babar Azam is the most experienced captain in this squad, obviously, he hasn’t won any trophy but still, due to his experience, we thought Babar is the right choice for captaincy at this moment,” ?Wahab was quoted as saying by the Cricket ??Pakistan.

Criticism of Ramiz Raja’s remarks regarding Mohammad Amir

Additionally in response to former PCB chief Ramiz Raja‘s remarks regarding Mohammad Amir, Wahab expressed criticism, labeling Raja’s comments as “harsh,” Raja’s statement, indicating that he would disown Amir if he was his son due to the left-arm seamer’s involvement in match-fixing, drew strong rebuke from Wahab. Defending Amir, who recently returned to the national side after a four-year absence, Wahab emphasized the negativity of Raja’s remarks, asserting that such comments were unwarranted and unfair toward Amir.

“Ramiz Raja Saab’s comment on Mohammad Amir is very harsh. I don’t believe that he deserves that because it was a very negative comment,” the 38-year-old concluded.

Upcoming T20I series against New Zealand

Looking ahead, Babar’s leadership will be put to the test as Pakistan prepares to face New Zealand in a crucial five-match T20I series scheduled from April 18 to April 27. The series opener will take place at the historic Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, followed by two more matches in Rawalpindi before shifting to Lahore for the final two encounters. This series will present an opportune moment for Babar to showcase his captaincy prowess and guide Pakistan to success against a formidable opponent, thereby solidifying his position as a leader in Pakistan cricket’s future endeavours.

In the aftermath of Pakistan‘s demoralizing loss to Afghanistan, former cricketer Waqar Younis has made a significant statement. Pakistan’s campaign in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 have been dealt a severe blow, suffering their third consecutive defeat, this time at ??the hand??s of Afghanistan in Chennai on Monday (October 23).

Pakistan’s batting performance and Afghanistan’s target chase

Opting to bat first, the Men in Green relied on noteworthy performances from Babar Azam, who scored 74 and Abdullah Shafique, who notched up 58. Additional contributions from Iftikhar Ahmed (40) and Shadab Khan (40) enabled? Pakistan to post 282/7 on the scoreboard.

However, Afghanistan exhibited exceptional composure under pressure, successfully chasing down the target with eight wickets in hand and an over to spare. The opening duo of Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65) and Ibrahim Zadran (87) laid the foundation with an impressive 130-run stand. Rahmat Shah (77 not out) and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (48 not out) guided Afghan??istan to ?a commanding victory.

Waqar Younis’s substantial statement on Pakistan’s performance

In the wake of this disheartening defeat, Waqar, the former cricketing stalwart, did not mince words in his assessment of Pakistan’s performance. He voiced concerns about Pakistan’s on-field attitude and the evident disarray in their game.

“That’s not the Pakistan team. I know you know. The attitude was totally missing zero out there. There was no method. It was just you Ball, you ball. You know, we’re not going to field and we’re sitting on the heels. There was so much to sort of. We can sit down here all night and criticise because they have provided us so much to talk about,” Waqar said to Star Sports.

Praise for Afghanistan’s composure under pressure

Furthermore, Waqar praised Afghanistan?? for their remarkable display, particularly their ability to maintain their composure in a high-pressure encounter.

“It is very hurting. But I’m very happy for Afghanistan. Also, don’t forget because you know they deserve it. The way they handle the pressure, the way they played cricket. I’m happy for them. I am gutted because you know what I’ve seen today,” the 51-year-old added.

Pakistan’s semi-final hopes and upcoming match against South Africa

This loss places Pakistan on the precipice of elimination, with a challenging task ahead to secure a spot in the semi-finals. They must win their remaining four games and hope for favourable results in other games. Pakistan’s next fixture is against South Africa in Chennai on October 27, where they face a critical juncture in thei??r World Cup journey.

Pakistan cricket legend Waqar Younis has extended a helping hand to Shaheen Afridi, who has faced a rough patch with the ball in the ongoing ICC Cricket ODI World Cup 2023 in India. Shaheen’s  performance in the touranament has been a topic of concern for Pakistani cricket fans.

Performance dip in first three matches

In Pakistan’s initial three games of the tournament, the young pacer has failed to live up to expectations. Shaheen’s inability to make significant breakthroughs, having secured just four wickets, and an unimpressive economy rate of 6.31 have raised questions about his form and fitness.

Waqar Younis’ valuable advice

Amid concerns about his fitness and effectiveness as a strike bowler, Waqar has offered some sage advice to Shaheen. He suggested that the left-arm speedster should take a page from India’s fast-bowling sensation, Jasprit Bumrah, ?known for his pinpoint accuracy and adaptability.

“Jasprit Bumrah is creating pressure and his line is top of the off stump. He bowled so well against Pakistan and created pressure to get wickets,â€?Waqar was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The missing link: Discipline and fitness

In addition to technique and strategy, Younis has pointed out that discipline is a significant missing link in Shaheen’s bowling. The legendary fast bowler also raised concerns about Afridi’s fitness levels, suggesting that addressing these aspects could be pivotal in resurrecting his performance.

“I don’t know if there is a problem with his fitness. The missing link in his bowling is discipline and he is over trying to get wickets. When you do the same thing again and again, like Shaheen is bowling to get his yorker going, then batsmen know that and they are ready for it,â€?the 51-year-old added.

Impact of Naseem Shah’s Absence

Naseem Shah, another promising young Pakistani pacer, was ruled out of the quadrennial event even before the tournament commenced. Younis believes that Shah’s absence may have affected Shaheen’s performances so far. The absence of a fellow fast bowler and the need to shoulder more responsibility could be contributing factors to Afridi’s struggles.

“Naseem is a good bowler and doesn’t give many runs away.  When Naseem creates pressure, batsmen take chances with other bowlers, and they get wickets. I don’t think it’s because of missing just one bowler, but it’s because they are not keeping it simple,â€?the Vehari-born cricketer concluded.

Road ahead for Pakistan

With Pakistan’s mixed performance, including wins against Netherlands and Sri Lanka, followed by a loss to India, their upcoming match against Australia in Be??ngaluru on October 20 carries significant i?mportance on the world stage.

Cricket is often referred to as the gentleman’s game and has seen its fair share of legends, with the names of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli etched into the an??nals of cricketing history alongside many others.

Sachin was the epitome of cricketing excellence, and his legacy continues to inspire generations of aspiring cricketers. Meanwhile, Virat is the modern-day maestro and has been on a relentless pursuit to carve his own path to greatness as he’s been achieving milestone after milestone. Nevertheless, this has also sparked comparisons between him and Sachin time and time again.

The ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 in India reignited the age-old debate of comparing the two titans of the game when?? Virat recently surpassed Sachin in terms of most runs for India in ICC white-ball t??ournaments. This incredible feat left many wondering whether Virat can indeed be placed on the same pedestal as Sachin. The same question was asked to former Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis during an interview with OneCricket, and he didn’t shy away from sharing his perspective on the matter.

Waqar Younis shares his take on Virat Kohli’s comparison with Sachin Tendulkar

In his assessment, Waqar candidly pointed out that cricket has undergone significant transformations over the years. He even highlighted how pitches have improved, offering batters more favourable conditions and that modern cricketers play shots that were previously considered unimaginable. The 51-year-old further also talked about the advent of T20 cricket before concluding that there’s no comparison when we juxtapose players from different eras and
expect one to outshine the other.

“Cricket has changed. The pitches have gotten better. Nowadays cricketers play shots, jo kabhi dekha hi nahi. No right to compare with Sachin. Different generations, different eras. Formats has changed, T20 cricket is here, so comparing players from a different era is not fair,” said Waqar.

Waqar Younis on Virat Kohli and Babar Azam comparison

In addition to discussing the comparison between Virat and Sachin, Waqar also touched upon another hot topic: the comparison between Virat and Pakistan’s own star, Babar Azam. While acknowledging Babar’s undeniable talent and contributions to Pakistan cricket, Waqar emphasized that Babar still has a long road ahead of him to match Virat’s body of work.

“Cannot be compared right now. Virat has been playing for many years. Babar has done extremely well for Pakistan but needs to achieve more moving forward,” the veteran cricketer added.

Virat Kohli just two centuries away from breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record

It’s also worth noting that Kohli is just two centuries away from equaling Sachin’s record of the most centuries in ODI cricket. Currently, the Delhi-born cricketer has 47 ODI centuries to his name, while Sachin amassed 49 tons during his illustrious career.

Legendary Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis has raised concerns over the performance of Shaheen Afridi in the initial two fixtures of the ongoing ICC Cricket ODI World Cup 2023 in India. Despite Pakistan’s successful start with two victories in the tournament, the form of their lead pacer, Shaheen, has raised some worrisome questions. Across these two matches, the 23-year-old has managed to secure just two wickets with a dismal average of 51.50.

Challenging day against Sri Lanka

In Pakistan’s recent thrilling chase against Sri Lanka, where they successfully pursued 344 runs, making it the highest World Cup chase in the competition’s history, Shaheen endured a challenging day. He conceded 66 runs in nine overs while securing only a single wicket, highlighting his struggle in the tournament.

Waqar Younis shows concerns over Shaheen Shah Afridi’s poor outing

Waqar emphasized the critical need for the Pakistan team to identify and address the issues that might be affecting Shaheen’s performance. He highlights that Pakistan’s success in the quadrennial event greatly relies on the Landi Kotal-born cricketer’s ability to consistently claim early wickets.

Pakistan’s success has come when Shaheen really picks up early wickets and over the years, he’s done it many times and, uh, and he’s got capacity, capability, but at the moment he’s trying too hard. He’s just falling all over the place, you know, bowling on the pads, outside the off stump he’s tried around the wicket over the wicket, nothing really worked for him, and I’m sure he will even sit back with Morne Morkel,Waqar said to Star Sports.

Injury speculation and the India clash

Waqar further speculated?? that Shaheen might be dealing with an injury concern, which could explain his subpar performance in the first two CWC 2023 games for Pakistan.

Wi?th the highly-anticipated showdown ??against India approaching, Waqar urged that Pakistan will need Shaheen at his best, especially considering his strong track record against India in significant matches.

“They’ll probably work out what is going wrong. I think there might be, uh, some action problem. What if he’s carrying any niggle or anything? If he can fix this issue and with that left arm ball coming in, you know, early doors,” the 51-year-old added.

“You know, against India, we’ll be needing his services at the most because he has done it, uh, against India a few matches previously. So, he’s an important member of the team, and I’m gonna just chip in for Shadab as well, not really finding the rhythm, not really finding the area where he needs to bowl. So, he’s also gonna sit down and chat about it,” the Vehari-born cricketer concluded.

Pakistan will face Rohit Sharma-led Team I??ndia at ??the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14.
