In the world of cricket commentary, few names evoke as much debate as Sanjay Manjrekar. Recently, he found himself at the centre of yet another controversy during the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. While discussing the evolution of pace bowlers, Manjrekar made a remark that quickly caught the ire of former Indian pacer Vinay Kumar. He described Kumar as a “120 kmph bowler,” suggesting that such bowlers thrived prima??rily on pitches with a bit of grass. This comment did not sit well with Kumar, prompting a sharp and witty response that has since gone viral.

Vinay Kumar strikes back with a sarcastic reply to Sanjay Manjrekar

Kumar, who has had a celebrated career in both domestic and international cricket, took to social media to address Manjrekar’s comments directly. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he sarcastically stated, “Sanjay bhai, with due respect, your speed gun requires urgent servicing. 120KMPH? Seriously?” This pointed remark highlights not only his pride in his achievements but also calls into question the accuracy of Manjrekar’s assessment of his bowling speed.

Kumar continued to assert his credentials, emphasizing that he is the first Indian pace bowler to take 100 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He expressed satisfaction with his career, adding, “With God’s grace, I take pride in my achievements. I am contented, satisfied, and happy with my life. Medium pacer like Vinay Kumar has worked really hard to become the 1st Indian fast bowler to take 100 IPL wickets also played for the country in all the formats. I take pride in my bowling. Anyways best wishes and regards.” This response underscores the hard work and dedication Kumar has put into his craft, countering any insinuation that he relied solely on favourable pitch conditions.

The context of the Manjrekar’s comment

Manjrekar’s comments came during a conversation about how domestic pitches have changed over the years. He noted that medium pacers like Kumar were successful when conditions favoured their style of bowling. However, many interpreted his remarks as dismissive rather than appreciative of the skill required to excel as a medium pacer. The cricketer’s response not only defended his legacy but also highlighted a broader issue within cricket commentary: the tendency to undervalue certain types of players based on outdated metrics.

This incident is not isolated; it reflects a growing trend where cricketers feel compelled to defend their legacies against critical commentary. Previously, players like Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja have also publicly challenged Manjrekar’s remarks. Such exchanges reveal an underlying tension between former players turned commentators and those still active in the sport.

Ben Stokes has been added to his list of accolades following a brilliant 2019 by being named as Wisden’s leading cricketer in the world.

The England all-rounder enjoyed an unforgettable year, playing an instrumental role in his side’s maiden ODI World Cup win in July with an unbeaten knock of 84 in the summit clash against New Zealand at Lord’s and then eight more runs in a thrilling Super Over.

Just six weeks later, Stokes then produced arguably England’s greatest-ever Test innings as his remarkable 135 not out secured victory over Australia at Headingley and kept the 2019 Ashes series alive.

The southpaw was then named both BBC Sports Personality of the Year and received an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List before claiming ICC Men’s Player of the Year honours.

Now named as Wisden Cricketer of the Year, Stokes has ended the three-year reign of India captain Virat Kohli, who had picked up ??the award for 2016, 2017 and 2018?.

Meanwhile, Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry was named as the leading woman player in the world while she also found a place as one of Wisden’s five Cricketers of the Year.

England? pace bowler Jofra Archer, Australians Pat Cummins and Marnus Labuschagne ??and Essex off-spinner Simon Harmer were the others.

Perry scored the highest runs and took the most wickets as Australia successfully retained their Women’s Ashes title against England last year.

Brilliant knocks from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli before the magnificent spells from Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya guided India to beat Pakistan by 89 run??s at the Old Trafford in Manchester on Su??nday.

With the win, India’s head-to-head record against Pakistan in the World Cup matches now sits at 7-0.

And post India’s victory, model turned actress Urvashi Rautela took to her Twitter handle to share a picture with the Indian skipper. Well, not the real one but his wax statue.

“#INDIAVsPAKISTAN #CWC19 @cricketworldcup #INDvPAK #love #india #cricket #lovecricket,” she captioned the picture.

But on a hilarious note, Twitter users couldn’t help but mention Anushka Sharma in their comments after seeing Urvashi’s picture with Virat’s wax statue.

Here are some of the Twitter reactions:

The wax statue of Virat Kohli will be on display at Madame Tussauds in London until July 15 – remain at the museum for the duration of the World Cup 2019.

Kohli’s statue is dressed in the official Indian kit – the shoes and gloves have been donated by the batsman himself.

During the ongoing World Cup, Kohli’s wax statue will stand alongside legends such as Usain Bolt, Sir Mo Farah and Sachin Tendulkar.

In a major boost for team India, captain Virat Kohli’s go to man Kedar Jadhav has been declared fit for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, scheduled to be played in England and Wales from May 30 to July 14.

Jadhav will now board the flight to Lon??don with the rest of the Ind??ian squad on May 22.

Jadhav’s participation in the 10-team tournament was in doubt after he suffered a shoulder injury in Chennai Super Kings’ final league fixture against Kings XI Punjab in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL).

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had asked team’s physiotherapist Patrick Farhart to return to India early from Australia and monitor Jadhav’s situation. He then submitted Jadhav’s fitness report to BCCI and was given the green signal.

Apart from adding steel through his bat?ting in the middle-order, the 34-year-old Jadhav offers a decent optio?n in the bowling department with his part-time offspin.

He has played in 59 ODIs so far, scoring 1174 runs at 43.48 alongside? two centuries and five fifties. He has taken 27 wickets as well and has an economy rate of 5.15.

India will open their World Cup campaign against South?? Africa on June 5. Before that they will play warm-up matches against New Zealand and Ba?ngladesh on May 25 and May 28 respectively.

Cheteshwar Pujara had been subject to a lot of criticism from several quarte??rs for not walking despite edging the ball in the second semifinal of the ongoing Ranji Trophy between Saurashtra and Karnataka at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium? in Bangalore.

Pujara was batting on just one run when the incident took place in Saurashtra’s first innings and went on to score 45 off 99 balls before being eventually dismissed by Abhimanyu Mithun.

A similar incident occurred in the second innings of the match wher?e he was once again given a lifeline by the on-field umpire despite being clearly out much to the anguish of the?? opposition.

In the 25th over of Saurashtra’s second innings bowled by Vinay Kumar, Pujara edged a full?er delivery into the gloves of Srinivas S??harath.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been ruled out of the remainder of the 3rd Test against Australia being played in Ranch?i.

It is a big blow to Team India considering that Kohli won’t be able to bat in any of the innings of the series deciding Test.

Well, Virat suffered a shoulder injury, when he dived to save a certain boundary at long-on in the post lunch session on Day 1. When Aussie batsman Peter Handscomb played a shot on Ravindra Jadeja‘s ball slightly wide off mid-on, Kohli ran after the ball.

He then dived near the boundary ropes in order to pull the ball back in. However, he landed on his shoul?der and in the process got injured.

The MRI scan on his right shoulder should be a tear which is likely to rule him out of t??he fourth and final test of the series as?? well, which is scheduled in Dharmasala .
