West Indies stamped their authority on Day 2 of the second Test against Bangladesh at Sabina Park, bowling out the visitors for a modest 164 and putting up a composed response with the bat. By the end of the day, the hosts reached 70/1, trailing by just 94 runs, with Kraigg Brathwaite and Keacy Carty at the crease. The ??day belonged to the West Indian bowlers, whose clinical spells dismantled the Bangladeshi batting lineup.

Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph shine with the ball

The West Indies bowlers began the morning in perfect rhythm, maintaining tight lines and capitalizing on the assistance from the surface. Bangladesh resumed with overnight batters Shahadat Hossain and Shadman Islam, who extended their partnership to a promising 73 runs. However, the breakthrough came when Shamar Joseph bowled Shahadat with a delivery ??that straightened after a series of outswing??ers.

Jayden Seales, who had already bowled three maidens on Day 1, continued to pile on the pressure with another three consecutive maidens, showcasing his remarkable control. His disciplined spell earned him the wicket of Litton Das, caught in the slips, as Bangladesh’s middle order began to crumble. Jaker Ali became Shamar’s second victim?, miscuing a pull to the keeper, while Shadman, the only batter to show significant resistance with 64 runs, was dismissed by Shamar shortly after.

The collapse saw Bangladesh lose four wickets for just 15 runs in a span of 33 deliveries. Mehidy Hasan Miraz (36) and Taijul Islam (16) offered some resistance with a gritty 41-run partnership, but their fight was short-lived. Alzarri Joseph dismissed Taijul with a short ball, and Seales returned to finish off the innings in style, claiming the wickets of Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana in quick succession.

Seales ended with extraordina?ry figures of 4-5 in 15.5 overs, while Shamar Joseph’s 3-49 ensured Bangladesh were bowled out for 164, leaving the hosts in a co??mmanding position.

Cautious response from the hosts

In reply, the West Indies openers Brathwaite and Mikyle Louis adopted a cautious approach to ensure a steady start. Brathwaite was content to leave deliveries outside the off-stump while punishing anything overpitched, striking a few exquisit?e boundaries through the offside. Louis, on the other hand, took 28 deliveries to get off the mark, demonstrating patience against some fiery bowling from the Bangladeshi pacers.

After Tea, Rana bowled with pace and aggression, consistently clocking over 150 kmph. He found success when he induced an edge from Louis, dismissing him for 12. However, Rana’s fiery spell failed to unnerve Brathwaite and Carty, who steadied the innings with a composed 45-run partnership.

Brathwaite, unbeaten on 33, had his share of luck when Mehidy Hasan dropped him at short cover, and a successful DRS review saved him from an L??BW dismissal off Taijul. Carty supported his skipper well, reaching 19* by Stumps. The West Indies batters negotiated the final session carefully, ensuring no further damage and keeping the momentum firmly with the hosts.

In the 21st match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, Guyana Amazon Warriors took on St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in an exciting encounter. After being asked to bat first, Guyana posted a competitive total which St Kitts and Nevis Patriots failed to ??chase.

Shamar Joseph runs out Rilee Rossouw

One of the defining moments of the match came in the 14th over of the second innings when Shamar Joseph pulled off a spectacular run-out to dismiss Rilee Rossouw. As Evin Lewis tapped a good-length delivery to the right of Joseph and called for a quick single, Joseph sprinted towards the ball, picked it up in one motion, and delivered a ??laser-accurate throw to t??he stumps.

Rossouw, who was slow to react, was caught short of his crease, with Joseph’s direct hit sending him back to the pavilion for just 11 runs. The shar??p fielding from Joseph was a game-changing moment, halting the Patriots?momentum.

Here is the video:

Shimron Hetmyer powers Guyana Amazon Warriors to a decent total

Earlier in the match, Guyana Amazon Warriors?captain Shimron Hetmyer led from the front, smashing 63 off 33 balls, including 4 boundaries and 5 towerin?g sixes. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Hetmyer’s aggressive innings kept the Warriors in the hunt for a respectable total. His counter-attacking approach frustrated the Patriots?bowlers, as he single-handedly pushed Guyana to 137/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Ashmead Nedd was the standout bowler for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, picking up 4 wickets for 25 runs, but Hetmyer’s knoc??k proved to be the backbone of Guyana’s innings.

Joseph’s impact on the match didn’t stop with his fielding. With the ball, he delivered a brilliant spell, claiming 3 wickets for just 9 runs, completely dismantling the Patriots’ middle order. His bowling, combined with Moeen Ali‘s 2/9, restricted the Patriots to just 107, with Lewis’ 49 being the only notable contribution.

Joseph’s all-round brilliance—his key run-out and superb bowling—was instrumental in Guyana Amazon Warriors’ 30-run victory, solidifying their place in the tournament’s top ranks.

On Day 1 of the second Test between West Indies and South Africa at Providence Stadium, Guyana, Shamar Joseph delivered an outstanding performance that left the visitors struggling. The West Indian pacer showcased his skill with the ball, particularly with his dismissal of South African opener Aiden Markram.

Aiden Markram’s dismissal: A perfect delivery

Joseph’s dismissal of Markram was a classic example of skillful seam bowling, utilizing the wobble seam technique to perfection. On the third ball of the 11th over, Joseph delivered a good length ball with a wobble seam, a subtle yet effective variation that causes the ball to deviate unpredictably after pitching. The ball was pitched just outside off-stump, angling into the right-hander. Markram, misjudging the line and the movement, decided to leave the delivery, anticipating it to hold its line or move away slightly, as previous deliveries had done.

However, the ball, instead of moving away, continued on its inward trajectory due to the angle created by Joseph’s delivery and the wobble seam’s influence. The length was slightly fuller than a traditional good length, enough to tempt Markram into thinking the ball might go over the stumps. Instead, it crashed into the top of the off-stump, a perfect result for Joseph, who celebrated the wicket with visible enthusiasm. Markram, who had scored 14 off 30 deliveries, was left to rue his misjudgment, leaving South Africa in a precarious position at 20/2.

Joseph’s aggressive bowling dismantled the South African batting lineup, with key dismissals including Temba Bavuma and David Bedingham. In response, the West Indies faltered, losing top-order wickets quickly. Mikyle Louis was bowled for a duck, and Captain Kraigg Brathwaite was dismissed for just 3 runs. By the end of first day play, the West Indies were at 97/7, trailing by 63 runs, with Jason Holder at the crease with the tail, need?ing to mount a strong fightback on Day 2??.

In the ongoing second Test match between England and West Indies at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, the Caribbean side showcased a remarkable fightback. After a shaky start, losing three wickets for just 84 runs in response to England’s 416, the visitors managed to post a formidable 457, securing a 41-run lead over the hosts.

Joshua Da Silva and Shamar Joseph turn the tables

At one point, West Indies were struggling at 386 for nine, and it appeared they might not cross the 400-run mark. However, Joshua Da Silva and tailender Shamar Joseph turned the g?ame aroun??d with a remarkable display of resilience and skill.

A crucial partnership for the 10th wicket

The duo stitched together a crucial 71-run partnership for the 10th wicket, frustrating the England bowlers and extending West Indies’ innings significantly. Their stand not only helped the visitors surpass 400 but also put them in a strong position to challenge England.

Shamar breaks stadium’s roof with a huge six

During their partnership, Shamar grabbed the spotlight with a sensational six that caused quite a stir. The incident occurred during the 107th over, bowled by Gus Atkinson. Shamar launched a short-pitched delivery over square leg for a massive six. The ball soared high and landed on the roof of Trent Bridge, shattering the tiles into pieces. The fans had to quickly take cover as the broken tiles fell, narrowly avoidin??g injury.

West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph has set his sights on spoiling the farewell Test of England‘s legendary pacer James Anderson when the two teams meet at Lord’s starting July 10.

Admiration and aim

In a series of interviews, the 24-year-old Joseph acknowledged Anderson’s status as an amazing player and someone he looked up to. However, the young West Indian is determined to deny the 41-year-old Anderson a fitting send-off in his final Test match for England.

“He is such an amazing player. Someone I have looked up to. Someone who is very good at this level. You could say he’s perfect because he has a lot of wickets at this level. Definitely, I would want to ruin that farewell for him,” Joseph told reporters on Monday.

Joseph, who made his Test debut for the West Indies earlier this year in Australia, is excited to play at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground for the first time. He has fond memories of watching great fast bowlers like Jofra Archer and Mitchell Starc perform at the venue during the Ashes.

Oh, they’re great. Watching a lot of the Ashes with great fast bowlers—Jofra Archer, Mitchell Starc—all the great fast bowlers come out here and do well. That’s something I would want to do as well,” Joseph added.

The young pacer is confident that the West Indies can compete against England, having recently secured a historic Test win at the Gabba in Australia.

Since our last tour of Australia, we maintain our energy. That’s the mindset we come into this series with (that the West Indies can compete against England),” Joseph revealed.

Performance to back his words

The last time the West Indies toured Englan?d for a Test series, they managed to beat the hosts in the first of three Tests before going on to lose ??the series. In his two Test matches for the West Indies so far, Joseph has already made a significant impact, picking up 13 wickets, including a match-winning seven-wicket haul in the second innings against Australia.

As Anderson prepares to bid farewell to international cricket, the young Caribbean fast bowler is determined to spoil the occasion and secure a victory for his team. “Definitely, I would want to ruin that farewell for him,” Joseph said, showcasing his competitive spirit and desire to make his mark on the game.

Co-hosts West Indies made a powerful statement ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, crushing Australia in their warm-up match in Trinidad. The Australians, fielding a team with only nine players, struggled as the Windies batters asserted their dominance, posting a massive total of 257/4, thanks to explosive half-centuries from Nicholas Pooran and captain Rovman Powell.

Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell’s explosive batting

Pooran and Powell hit a combined 12 sixes, with Poo??r?an smashing 75 off just 25 balls and Powell adding 52 off 25 deliveries. Their aggressive batting set a formidable target for the Australian side.

Australia’s brave response falls short

Despite being shorthanded, Australia managed to score 222/7 in their 20 overs but ultimately fell short by 35 runs. Their effort was valiant but insufficient to cha??se down the huge target set by the West ??Indies.

Shamar Joseph removes David Warner

Veteran opener David Warner was the first wicket to fall for the 2021 World Cup champions. Warner, who has announced his retirement from Test and ODI cricket, is expected to play his last T20 World Cup, with high expectations resting on his shoulders. However, Warner was unable to make a significant impact in the warm-up match as Shamar Joseph bowled a spectacular delivery to dismiss him.

On the fourth ball of the second over of Australia’s innings, Joseph bowled from around the wicket, delivering an angling-in delivery. Warner attempted to hit the ball towards mid-wicket but missed entirely, and the ball went on to hit the stumps.

Warner expresses his plans on Champions Trophy 2025

While Warner is set to entertain fans in the T20 World Cup, he also shared his thoughts on the 2025 Champions Trophy. Warner suggested that Australia might not require his services for the tournament, given the rise of Travis Head and Jake Fraser-McGurk as opening options.

“They may not need me,” Warner told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Warner underscored the team’s ethos of fearlessness and collective contribution to their success. Regardless of individual roles within the team, their focus remains on giving their best and aiming to be match-winners. He emphasized the abundance of talent within the team, where any player can step up on any given day.

“We’ve always played fearless and I think that’s why we’ve been so successful over the last few years. We don’t care about our spot in a team, we just care about doing the best that we can, and making sure that whatever we’re doing, we’re trying to be that match winner. And the fortunate thing is that we’ve got so many of them. One might come off one day, the next day someone else will come off. So we just know that one person in that top six, if they can get anywhere between 60 to 80 runs at a good strike rate, we know we’re always going to post a good total,” added Warner

In a stunning display of bowling prowess, Shamar Joseph led the West Indies to a thrilling eight-??run v??ictory over Australia in the second Test at the Gabba on Sunday.

Despite facing doubts about his fitness after a painful toe injury from a Mitch Starc delivery on Day 3, the youn?g? lad was cleared of serious injury and delivered a heroic performance.

Shamar Joseph’s sensational 7-wicket haul

Resuming at their second innings at an overnight score of 60 for 2, Steve Smith and Cameron Green set a strong foundation, nearing half-centuries in the first 20 overs of the penultimate day. However, Joseph shifted the momentum with a superb delivery that dismissed Green and followed it up by sending Travis Head back to the pavilion for a golden duck.

Joseph continued to dominate, claiming the wickets of key Australian players like Mitch Marsh and Alex Carey. Registering his second 5-wicket haul in as many games, Joseph’s strategic prowess induced a lofted shot from Starc, caught brilliantly by Kevin Sinclair at point.
