England hopeful Ollie Robinson endured a nightmare over on Wednesday during the County Championship clash between Sussex and Leicestershire. Robinson, known for his aggressive pace bowling, found himself on the receiving end of a brutal assault from Leicestershire batter Louis Kimber.
The carnage unfolded in the 59th over of Leicestershire’s second innings. Chasing a daunting target of 464, Kimber was already well on his way to a blazing knock, sitting at 72 off 56 balls. Robinson, tasked with stemming the flow of runs, instead became an unwitting catalyst for an explosion.
Robinson’s woes began with a cardinal sin for a fast bowler – three no-balls in a single over. In county cricket, each no-ball incurs a penalty of two runs, adding immediate pressure to the bowler. Kimber, sensing an opportunity, unleashed his fury. He dispatched two towering sixes over the boundary ropes, while also finding the fence with six fours. Even a single snuck through, as Robinson struggled to find any control.
By the over’s end, a battered and bruised Robinson had conceded a staggering 43 runs. The damage breakdown is a testament to Kimber’s dominance: 6, 6nb (4, 2-nb), 4, 6, 4, 6nb (4, 2-nb), 4, 6nb (4, 2-nb), 1.

This nightmarish over for Robinson has been etched in First-Class cricket history. It now stands as the second-most expensive over ever bowled, only behind by the infamous effort of former New Zealand spinner Bert Vance in 1989-90.
Vance, bowling in a Shell Trophy match, conceded a mind-boggling 77 runs – an embarrassing feat recorded through a whopping 17 no-balls. While Robinson’s over survived to reach those many runs, it serves as a stark reminder of the fine line between bowling fire and getting burnt in the process.

]]>In the intense battleground of international cricket, rivalries often overshadow camaraderie, and compliments from opposing players are a rare sight. However, in the ongoing India-England Test series, England’s seamer Ollie Robinson couldn’t help but shower praises on India’s vice-captain and star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah.
It is worth mentioning that Bumrah is currently the top-ranked bowler in Test cricket and recently ?showcased his brilliance in the second Test against England, playing a major role in helping India level the series aft?er losing the opening encounter.
With a stunning performance that included nine wickets, Bumrah’s bowling left both fans and experts in awe, and one delivery that mesmerized cricket enthusiasts around the world in particular was his sensational yorker to clean up Ollie Pope that soon became a talking point, highlighting? the ability he possesses to deliver something extra?ordinary in every match.
Robinson, who is yet to make an appearance in the English lineup in the series, revealed his fanboy side in his recent column for Wisden. The English pacer confessed to repeatedly marveling at Bumrah’s skills, declaring him as the best bowler in the world.
Robinson further detailed his awe at Bumrah’s performance in Vizag, acknowledging the unpredictability and brilliance that the India vice-captain brings to each game. The dismissal of Pope with a pinpoint yorker and Ben Foakes with a slower ball added another layer to Robinson’s amazement, leaving him wondering if Bumrah could get any better.
“Jasprit Bumrah has been crazy good I must have said, ‘This bloke’s the best bowler in the world,’ ten times in Vizag. The way he got Pope out, I was like, ‘Oh my, this guy’s a joke.’ And then he got Foakes out with a slower ball and I’m like, ‘Oh my goodness, can this guy get any better?’ You watch him and you think, ‘Wow, he’s good.’ And then there’s something else where you think, ‘He’s amazing, can he do anything more?'” Robinson wrote for Wisden.
Reflecting on his conversations with fellow seamer James Anderson, Robinson shared their aspiration to emulate Bumrah’s success in subcontinental conditions. He emphasized the privilege of witnessing Bumrah’s magic on the field and credited him for providing inspiration with his extraordinary skills.
“And as a bowler 鈥?Jimmy and I were speaking about it and after the last game 鈥?to watch him ply his trade in India is really special because we’re always striving to put on a performance like that in these conditions. He’s really special to watch. Credit to Jasprit 鈥?he’s extraordinary. He’s definitely given me food for thought in the way that he bowls over here,” the England pacer revealed.

]]>Mark Wood had a sensational return to Test cricket after missing out on the first two matches of the Ashes 2023 series due to fitness issues. The right-arm seamer turned out to be a game-changer for England in the third Test at Headingley as he stunned the Australian batters with his sheer pace and bagged seven overall wickets across two innings. In the process, he also bowled the f?astest ever over in the history of He??adingley.
Apart from his bowling prowess, Wood contributed with the bat as well. The 33-year-old scored valuable 24 and 16 runs for England in both innings, respectively. The all-round performance by Wood earned him the well-deserved ‘Player of the Match’ award as well.
Wood鈥檚 compatriot Ollie Robinson has now talked about the former鈥檚 dre?am return and his impact on the team in his recent colum??n for Wisden. Robinson highlighted the effect Wood had on the Australian batters in his article and pointed out the mark he left in the heads of the Aussie players with his lethal deliveries.
鈥淚鈥檝e never seen a spell like Woody鈥檚 on that first morning. I was at mid-off to start with, and first few balls, I thought, 鈥楯eez, that looks pretty quick鈥︹€?He carried on through the over, finished the job, and th??en someone ran past me from slip and said that they were standing past my bowling mark, which is 22-and-a-half metres back,鈥?/em> wro??te Robinson.
鈥淭he fact he was consistently getting the shape and movem??ent on it as well 鈥?at that speed 鈥?was just unbelievable bowling. It was just amazing to watch and be a par?t of. Though not so amazing for the batters, I鈥檇 imagine. Every batter during that spell was doing the same thing. It was awkwardly fast and awkwardly uncomfortable, and as a batter you鈥檙e trying to convey that you鈥檙e fine when you鈥檙e really not,鈥?/em> he added.
Robinson further even revealed some hilarious dressing room antics of Wood and stated that one might think he’s drunk after seeing his funny side. Nevertheless, he cleared that Wood doesn’t consume any alcoholic beverages. Robinson discussed a funny dressing room incident ten minutes before the match involving Wood in his column as well.
鈥淲oody鈥檚 just got this mad, unique energy. There鈥檚 no one else like him. You think he鈥檚 drunk half the time yet he doesn鈥檛 touch a drop. Bear in mind this is a bloke who, 10 minutes before we went out, literally at 10:50 am, was on all-fours barking on the changing room floor, going, ‘here鈥檚 a dog in the dressing room. There鈥檚 a dog in here, lads鈥?鈥?/em> wrote Robinson.

]]>In a thrilling conclusion to the first Test of the Ashes 2023 series, Australia emerged victorious in the final m??oments against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Captain Pat Cummins played a pivotal role, leading his team from the front with an unbeaten knock of 44 runs during Australia’s chase of 281.
However, it was Usman Khawaja who stole the show with his exceptional batting performance in both innings. Khawaja’s contributions proved instrumental in Australia’s triumph, as he scored a magnificent 140 in the first innings and followed it up with a brilliant 65 in the second.
While the match showcased several memorable moments, it was a verbal altercation between English pacer Ollie Robinson and Khawaja that took center stage. The incident began when Robinson dismissed Khawaja in the first innings, celebrating with an aggressive send-off. The tension between the two players carried ??over into the second innings, where they were seen?? exchanging words.
Robinson’s conduct drew criticism from fans and cricket experts?? alike, as his aggressive actions were deemed unsportsmanlike. However, the English pacer has since revealed that he approached Khawaja after the incident to clarify that his actions were a result of the intensity of the moment and not personal animosit??y.
“I didn鈥檛 realise the Ussie [Usman Khawaja] send-off was such a big thing until I got off the pitch to find my phone blowing up with mates texting me and it all going off. I just got caught up in the moment. I was desperate for a wicket; I hadn鈥檛 bowled that well in the first innings, I鈥檇 had that slip in my second over and lost a bit of confidence. And then I was trying to feel my way back in a little bit, having not played much for a while. And obviously Ussie was the big wicket, he was playing beautifully. It was nothing against Ussie, it was just one of those things, I got caught up in the moment and let myself go,” wrote Robinson in him column for Wisden.
Robinson pointed out previous instances involving renowned players such as James Anderson and Brett Lee, highlighting the history of heated exchanges in the Ashes series. He also referred to Khawaja as a “nice guy,” indicating that there were no lingering hard feelings between them.
“We鈥檝e all seen it with Jimmy [Anderson], Broady, [Glenn] McGrath, Brett Lee. All the bowlers do it when they鈥檙e fired up and trying to get a wicket for their team. I spoke to Ussie after as well and we were all good. He was just like, ‘Mate, just be careful what you say.’ It was nothing against him and we had a good chat. He鈥檚 a nice guy and I鈥檝e always gotten on well with him, having played against him a few times,” added Robinson.

]]>The Ashes 2023 series聽commenced in a grand fashion, with Australia winning the opening Test of the five-match series at the Edgbaston in Birmingham on June 21 (Tuesday). Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon pl??ayed a significant role in? the visitor鈥檚 famous victory over England.
It is worth mentioning that Cummins and Lyon stitched a 55-run partnership to get Australia through in the final hour of Day 5. The heroics of the Aussie pair not j??ust went down into the history books but is also receiving praise from the cricket fraternity and fans ??across the world.
However, England鈥檚 seamer Ollie Robinson is being subject to huge trolling after the Aussie duo鈥檚 exploit. Robinson had taken a jibe on the last thr??ee Aussie b??atters in the post-match press conference following the stumps on Day 4. Robinson had said that it鈥檚 easy to bowl out Australia after getting Cummins out as all the other batters lower down the order bat like no. 11s.
“It鈥檚 something we鈥檝e spoken about as a group. We鈥檝e said once we get past (Pat) Cummins, we feel like they鈥檝e got three No. 11鈥檚 (in Nathan Lyon, Scott Boland and Josh Hazlewood,鈥?/em> said Robinson in the interaction with media.
鈥淚t鈥檚 something we can target through the series and try to wrap things up quite quick and give?? us that momentum throughout the series,鈥?/em> he added.
The English pacer is now being targeted and called out for the statement as fans and experts are reminding him that Aussie bowlers contri?buted more with the bat to win it for A??ustralia than some of the proper batters.

Bit of a sad day for Ollie Robinson.
Khawaja getting the MOM. Australia's 3 11's winning it by scoring a 50 run partnership. Also Boland scored 20 runs, please dont forget.

Ollie Robinson's 3 No 11s jibes could be the biggest sledge that has backfired in #ashes history. But, one must understand the broader context. England's BAZBALL approach has worked while chasing mostly, not defending totals #ENGvAUS

Quite funny that No.9 and No.10 share 50+ partnership to win after Ollie Robinson said that ?"We feel like they have got 3 No.11s" (even if we grant that Cummins is not one of them, as Boland was promoted as nightwatchman).

]]>Former England captain Nasser Hussain issued a warning to Ollie Robinson after his unsportsmanlike behaviour towards Australian batsman Usman Khawaja during the ongoing first Test of the Ashes 2023 at Edgbaston. Although Robinson managed to dismiss Khawaja, who had scored an impressive 141 runs off 321 deliveries, including three sixes and 14 fours, his post-dismissal a??ctions, which invo??lved offensive language, drew criticism from Australian fans.
Furthermore, Robinson continued his aggressive behaviour off the field, stating in a press conference that he was unconcerned about how his send-off was pe??rceived. However, Hussain cautioned Robinson, sugges??ting the latter might face similar treatment when he comes out to bat.
Hussain recalled a conversation with Ben Stokes in Chennai, where they discussed Robinson’s statement of “hammering Australia.” Stokes responded by saying, “Ollie is a confident cricketer.”
Hussain acknowledged the preferen??ce for such confidence over the timidne?ss and mental scars of their era when playing against the Australians. However, he emphasized that words have consequences, and when Robinson goes to bat, he should be prepared to face similar behaviour from the opposition.
“I spoke to Ben Stokes in Chennai about Ollie Robinson saying ‘We are going to hammer Australia.’ We almost did a Glenn McGrath. And then Ben just went ‘Well, it’s Ollie being Ollie. He is a confident cricketer.’ You prefer it that way than in our era when the Aussies came and we were all timid and had mental scars and baggage. But words have consequences and when he goes out to bat, he is going to get it as well,” Hussain was quoted as saying to Sky Sports.
Robinson’s actions have sparked a debate about whether his celebration crossed a line or if he was within his rights. Hussain attempted to understand the situation from the player’s perspective and considered it fair enough, given the intense nature of the game.
“There are two strands to the argument. i will never ever have a go at someone who shows emotions in the moment. That’s the game we play. We can sit here with our Latte and our crossaints and go ‘Why is he doing that? Poor old Uzi,'” he added.
The cricketer-turned-commentator also shared his view from a spectator’s point of view and opined that there was no need for Robinson to celebrate the way he did.
“To give someone a send-off verbally when they’re out, I never really like it. You’ve got him out, he has got a 140 (141). Do you really need to give him a send-off? And then double it down in the press conference? You say ‘I got carried away in the heat of the moment.’,” concluded Hussain.

]]>England seamer Ollie Robinson faced a huge backlash for abusing the Aussie opener Usman Khawaja during Day 3 of the Ashes 2023 Edgbaston Test. The English pacer was captured fi??ring cuss words towards Khawaja after dismissing the left-??handed batter on 141 runs and gave him a send-off in a pumped-up manner.
After huge discussions and condemnation of the act committed by Robinson, Aussie greats Allan Border and Ian Healy have now also come forward and slammed the right-arm pacer for derogatory remarks on Khawaja. However, Robinson defended himself by citing the example of a former Australia captain who was famous fo??r aggression on the field.
Although Border confessed that such inc??idents happen in the heat of the moment, he further went on to reckon that Robinson will surely get a payback from the Aussies when he comes out to bat in the second innings.
“I have heard some send-offs and have given some send-offs myself. It is sort of heat of the moment sort of stuff. Generally, I think Robinson is a pretty fair bloke from what I gather. But, you get fired up as a big fast bowler, words are said and then afterwards it’s all forgotten about generally. The media will jump on it, of course, but you know what goes around comes around, he’s put a bit of a target on his head. When he comes out the bat, hopefully it’s early tomorrow, and the Aussies won’t forget that’s for sure,” said Border on SEN Breakfast.
Meanwhile, Healy said that Robinson must be fined for trying to incite Khwaja and termed h??is act very rude on the same SEN Breakfast show?.
“It is a lack of class like he’s been criticised for, but that’s ok, it happens in the heat of the moment. I think he should have been punished because it was shown so closely on TV and it does incite retaliation. If Khawaja retaliated to that and said something back to him, he’d probably get in trouble. He (Robinson) was trying to incite that, it was rude and it was rugged. There probably should have been a little fine handed down to Ollie,” Healy shared his views.
On the other hand, Robinson later during the post-match press conference stated that his action was ‘theatre of the game’ and justified his act by saying that Australian legend Ricky Ponting has done similar things in past as well.
“We all want that theatre of the game, so I am here to provide it. I don’t really care how it is perceived to be honest. It’s the Ashes, it’s professional sport. If you can’t handle that, what can you handle?,” said Robinson.
“When you’re in the heat of the moment and you have the passion of the Ashes, that can happen. We’ve all seen Ricky Ponting and other Aussies do the same to us, and just because the shoe is on the other foot it’s not received well,” he added.

]]>The ongoing first Ashes Test witnessed controversy as England’s Ollie Robinson faced widespread criticism for his unsportsmanlike conduct following the dismissal of Australia’s Usman Khawaja on Day 3 at Edgbaston. Robinson, who had made little impact in the ??Test prior to the breakthrough, used offensive language directed towards Khawaja, tarnishing the spirit of the game.
Khawaja, widely respected as one of the most beloved figures in cricket, displayed exceptional batting prowess, scoring a remarkable 141 runs before being bowled by Robinson. However, it was Robinson’s post-wicket behavior that drew attention and condemnation from both fans and experts.
Right after removing Khawaja, the right-arm pacer was captured on camera unleashing a verbally aggressive outburst, shouting expletives directly at the departing batter. The offensive language used by Robinson, including profanities and derogatory terms, has been widely criticized for its lack of sportsmans?hip and disrespect towards the opposition.

Earlier on the third day, Australia had resumed their innings at 311/5, with Khawaja leading their recovery from a precarious position of 67/3. Additionally, James Anderson, who had remained wicketless on the previous day, provided the first breakthrough by breaching the? defenses of Alex Car??ey and dismissing him for 66 runs.
