Australia skipper Meg Lanning had a great start to 2023 as she first led her nation to their record eighth ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title and then went on to finish as the highest run scorer of the maiden Women’s Premier League. It was due to Lanning’s sensational performance and leadership only that the Delhi Capitals (DC) reached the WPL final. However, Delhi lost the summit c??l??ash to eventual champions Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Brabourne Stadium.

Notably, WPL was the first-ever event to be started for women cricketers at such a grand level, and the Indian league has now become a big hit with its worldwide exposure. The tournament was watched globally by cricket enthusiasts marking a new beginning for women’s cricket. With prominent players participating in the WPL, it has also opened the doors for young women athletes to gain experience and improve their game.

Speaking about the success of the WPL on the BBC podcast Stumped, Lanning shed light on the impact of the tournament other than its financial aspect. She talked about how WPL will speed up the competition and grow the standards of women’s cricket on a global level.

“One of the things we talk about a lot in the Australian team is trying to have an impact on the global stage. We play the game because we love it and we want to keep improving it and carry on growing the game,” said Lanning.

“Tournaments like this (WPL) will speed that up a fair bit. As an Australian team we think it is important the global game is growing. It is not just about us winning all the time. We want to win all the time. There’s no doubt about that, but there is more at play that just that,” she added.

Lanning has successfully led Australia to four T20 World Cups, one ODI World Cup, three Ashes and? the 2022 Commonwealth Games?? triumph in the past few years, which makes her the most decorated captain in the history of cricket.

The Aussie skipper even expressed her desire to play more cricket and stated: “I can’t see any reason why I can’t play for four or five more years, it is just whether that is something I want to do. I haven’t thought too much. But especially with new opportunities like the WPL coming up, you really want to be part of that.”

Australia captain Meg Lanning is all ready to lead the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise in the upcoming inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) that starts on March 4 in Mumbai.

Lanning ha??s a sensational captaincy record in the shortest format. Under her leadership, Australia have won a record four T20 World Cups, including the most recent one in South Africa last month after they defeated the hosts in the summit clash.

Lanning, who has already arrived in Mumbai for the WPL, has played 132 T20Is, in which she has scored 3405 runs with the help of two hundreds and 15 half-centuries at an average of 36.61 and strike rate of 116.37. The Singapore-born-Aussie star has led her team in 100 T20Is, which is the most by any women’s player in the format.

Notably, the Capitals will begin their WPL campaign on March 5 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Brabourne Stadium. Along with Lanning, India star Jemimah Rodrigues was named as the vice-captain of Capitals.

“It’s a very proud moment for me, firstly to be involved with Delhi Capitals and then to lead them. It’s about enjoying yourself, and getting the best out of yourself. WPL is a massive moment for the sport, it’s the logical next step and makes a lot of sense. Cricket in India is people’s lives, and the fact that WPL is up and running, and to be involved in something like this, is amazing. It’s only going to grow in the coming years,” said Lanning in an official statement.

Not to mention, Lanning is the third Australian player to lead a WPL side. Before her, Beth Mooney was named Gujarat Giants’ captain, while Alyssa Healy was appointed UP Warriorz’ skipper. When it comes to other sides, Mumbai Indian?s will be ?captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, and Royal Challengers Bangalore will be led by Smriti Mandhana.

“We are proud of Meg for acknowledging that she needs a break and will continue to support her during this time. Australia Women captain Meg Lanning, who recently led her team to the Gold medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022, has decided to take an indefinite break from the game citing personal reasons, Cricket Australia (CA) announced in a statement on Wednesday.

Lanning has decided to step back from the g??ame after a busy two-and-a-half-year period in which she led the Aussies to the T20I and ODI World Cups titles and the home Ashes series triumph.

“We’re proud of Meg for acknowledging that she needs a break and will continue to support her during this time,” said CA’s head of performance of women’s cricket, Shawn Flegler, as quoted by Cricketcomau.

Australia Women captain Meg Lanning has reclaimed her numero uno position at the ICC Women’s T20I rankings for batters by overtaking her team-mate, Beth Mooney.

The ICC released the latest Women’s rankings on Tuesday and Lanning jumped one place to take over Mooney at the top on the back of her spectacular tri-series against Pakistan and Ireland.

Lanning displayed her class to finish as the leading run s?corer with 113 runs from two innings against the Irish side. Her best effort came when she smashed 74 from just 49 deliveries to help Australia register victory in the fourth T20I. In that same match, Mooney fell for just 9, which proved crucial in the rankings re-shuffle.

New Zealand’s Sophie Devine (third) and the Indian duo of Smriti Mandhana (fourth) and Shafali Verma (fifth) complete the top five T20I batters.

After the 3-0 whitewash against South Africa, England’s Katherine Brunt, who finished as the joint leading wicket-taker in the series with five scalps, went up four spots (to No. 3) in the bowlers’ rankings, just behind her teammates Sophie Ecclestone and Sarah Glenn.

Australian left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen rose three spots (to No. 6) in the bowlers’ list, while Ashleigh Gardner advanced three spots to No. 7 in the all-rounders’ category.

Meg Lanning‘s incredible efforts with the willow steered Australia to continue their unbeaten run defeating South Africa by fiv??e wickets at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on Tuesday.

Chasing 272, Australia didn’t have a good start, losing the wickets of openers – Alyssa Healy and Rachel Haynes – to be reduced to 45/2 by the 11th over. However, Lanning led from the front and steadied the innings with her controlled play.

Along with Beth Mooney (21) and Tahlia McGrath (32), Lanning formed crucial stands of 60 and 93, respectively. The Aussie skipper smashed her 15th ODI century and stayed unbeaten at 135 to help Australia complete the run chase with 28 balls to spare and ??register their sixth successive win of the tournament.

Earlier, half-centuries from Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus assisted South?? Africa to post a competitive total on the board in their allotted 50 overs. While ski?pper Luus scored 52 off 51 balls, opening batter Wolvaardt fell short of 10 runs from hitting a hundred.

“We thought it was a par score, and we certainly felt like we were in the game because the ball was coming on nicely towards the back end of the first innings. We felt like we could chase it. It was a fresh wicket today. There have been good wickets and had some world-class batters as well. We broke the back of it (chase) through the middle, which gave us nice little breathing space, I still think we gave away too many chances between batters, including myself, which we don’t need to, and that’s something we can work on,” said Lanning after the match.

Meg Lanning, Alyssa Healy shined with the willow for Australia during their thrilling six wickets win over India in the 2022 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup on Saturday.

The Aussies successfully chased down the massive target of 288 runs and smashed their own record of the highest successful chase in Women’s World Cup fixtures. Previously, Australia had completed a chase of 258 against Sri Lanka in 2017.

Australian captain L?anning led from the front and played a splendid knock of 97 (107) with the help of 13 boundaries. Similarly, opener Healy contributed with 72 runs from 65 deliveries, includ?ing nine fours.

With the fifth straight win in the?? competition, Australia have now qualified for ?the semi-final of the ongoing multi-team tournament.

Earlier, fighting knocks from captain Mithali Raj, batter Yastika Bhatia and power-striker Harmanpreet Kaur helped India in posting 277/7 on the board in their allotted 50 overs. Indian skipper Mithali scored 68 while Yastika made 59. Likewise, Harmanpreet went on to smash an unbeaten 57. Down the order, Pooja Vastrakar chipped in with a quickfire 34 to take India to a?? competitive total.

For the Aussies, Darcie Brown was the pick of the bowlers, taking a three-wicket haul for 30 runs in eight overs. Similarly, Alana King bagged two scalps for 52 runs in her?? quota of 10 overs.

“I think it was good to contribute personally, disappointing to miss out on scores in the last couple of games, but I have trained hard at the nets. It (the ball) came on nicely, not much turn, and you could play your shots on this surface. We have different game plans (on batting with Ellyse Perry), she’s very calm, it’s nice to have someone who’s very comfortable at her game. I just had to trust my hands and play through the line of the ball (on her drives),” said Lanning after the match.

On Sunday, Australia continued their domination over England and sealed the multi-format Women’s Ashes series with a brilliant win the in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match leg. All-rounder Ellyse Perry dominated the proceedings with both ball and the bat to help her side record a five-wicket victory at Junction Oval in Melbourne.

After electing to field first, the Aussies completely owned their English rivals, bundling them out for a mere 129 in 45.2 overs. Perry and Tahlia McGrath were the pick of the bowlers, with both bagging ??three wickets each.

In reply, the hosts chased down the target in 35.2 overs, with Perry again shining with the bat. She scored 40 off 64 deliveries, including five fours and a six. Although, Aussie skipper Meg Lanning failed to impress with the bat after getting out for a 4-ball duck off Kate Cross.

However, Lanning did contribute in the fielding as she grabbed a stunning catch to get rid of England’s star Danielle Wyatt. It all happened during the 25th over bowled by Annabel Sutherland when Lanning displayed acrobatic effort in the sli?p cordon.

Sutherland pitched the ball on a good length around the off-stump, and Wyatt stepped forward to defend only to get a thick outside edge. The white-leath??er flew towards the right of the slip where Lanning dived full length and plucked a blinder to send back Wyatt for a duck.

Here is the video:

“I thought it was an outstanding effort from the bowlers, the pitch was better than what we saw. We’d have liked to finish better with the bat, but it was a good job. With Darcie rested, Perry got the chance to take the new ball, and this is the best I have seen her in a long time. We haven’t played the game to our full potential as yet, going into the next match and the World Cup, I’d like to see a perfect game from the girls,” said Lanning after the match.

betvisa888Meg Lanning – Cricket Times - betvisa888 cricket bet //betvisa68.com/2021/10/watch-australian-skipper-meg-lanning-gets-out-hit-wicket-during-3rd-t20i-against-india/ Mon, 11 Oct 2021 04:46:16 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=59586

Australian captain Meg Lanning got out due to one of the unluckiest dismissals in cricket in the rec??ently concluded third T20I against India at Carrara Oval in Queensland o??n Sunday. The Aussie skipper hit the stumps while batting and lost her prized scalp.

It all happened during the seventh over of Australia’s innings bowled by left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad. On the last ball, Gayakwad bowled ?a short delivery asking for tro??uble.

Lanning saw the opportunity and connected the ball well that ran away to the fence for a four. But little did she know that while attempting to play the at?tacking shot, Lanning ended up hitting the stumps and was declared hit wicket.

“She would be devastated, she smoked that for four. It’s gone for four. The skipper, who was looking in great touch, has registered a boundary which will have to be removed. What a disaster for the skipper,” said former Australian cricketer Brad Hodge in the commentary for Fox Cricket.

Here is the video:

In the game, Lanning could only score 14, but opener Beth Mooney and tailender Tahlia McGrath shined with the bat to help the hosts reach a respectable total. Mooney co??ntinued her golden form, smashing yet another half-century. She scored 61 off 43 balls with the help of 10 boundaries. Similarly, McGrath chipped in with a valuable 44 from 31 down the order as Australia posted 149/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, the visitors could only manage to reach 135/6 in 20 overs, losing the contest by 14 runs. Smriti Mandhana contributed well, with a crucial fifty at the top. She ??scored 52 off 49 deliveries with the help of eight boundaries. But the middle-order failed to chip in as India fell 14 runs short of the total and lost the T20I series 2??-0.
