India’s strong batting display 

Yashasvi Jaiswal led the charge with a dynamic 40 off 21 balls, showcasing his aggressive stroke play. Shubman Gill also made a notable contribution with a brisk 34 from just 16 balls. Captain Suryakumar Yadav anchored the innings with a commanding 58 off 26 balls, demonstrating his explosive batting style. Rishabh Pant provided a crucial boost with 49 from 33 balls, incl??uding several boundaries.

Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag and Axar Patel made valuable lower-order contributions, with Pandya scoring 9, Parag adding 7, and Patel finishing unbeaten with 10. Despite a series of wickets falling at key moments, the Indian batting li??ne-up’s depth and aggressive intent ensured they set a daunting target for Sri Lanka.

Matheesha Pathirana’s memorable delivery to Hardik Pandya

One of the standout moments of the innings came from Sri Lanka’s Matheesha Pathirana. His delivery on the 4th ball of the 17th over was a jaw-dropping inswinging yorker delivered at a searing pace of 151 km/h. Pandya, trying to create room by stepp?ing away from his leg stump, was left stranded. The pace and movement of Pa?thirana’s delivery crashed into Pandya’s pads and deflected onto the stumps, resulting in a spectacular dismissal that had the crowd roaring in appreciation.

Sri Lanka’s bowlers faced a tough challenge against India’s aggressive batting. Dilshan Madushanka and Asitha Fernando struggled, with both giving away significant runs. Maheesh Theekshana also found it challenging to contain the Indian batters. Wanindu Hasaranga was relatively more economical, taking a wicket and conceding fewer runs. Ahead of the white-ball series against ?India, Pathirana expressed his gratitude towards CSK and Dhoni, highlighting how their support was pivotal in his cricketing journey. He mentioned that after his under-19 career, he was not part of any Sri Lankan squads. However, his debut with CSK provided him with significant exposure and opportunities, leading to his selection for Sri Lanka’s main team. Pathirana considers playing for CSK a divine blessing, as it brought him recognition. He also emphasized the special experience of sharing the dressing room with Dhoni, which is invaluable for young cricketers like him, especially those from Sri Lanka.

“After my under-19s, I was not in any squads in Sri Lanka. But since my debut for CSK, I got those chances and got selected for Sri Lanka’s main team. Playing for CSK is a gift from god for me. Until I played for CSK, not many knew me. Sharing the dressing room with Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) is very special for youngsters like me, especially coming from Sri Lanka,” Pathirana said as quoted by Sportstar.

Pathirana grabbed the Player of the Match award for his deadly bowling. He took four wickets in his spell, giving just 20 runs with an economy of 5.2, out of which three were in the same last over, sending Maheesh Theekshana and  Jeffrey Vandersay ?to the dugout on successive yorker deliveries for ducks.

The first over of Pathirana’s spell was a decent one, as he was sent for a six and also given a wide delivery, but later on, in the 16th over, he opened his wickets account with Sahan Arachchige. Colombo Strikers beat Galle Marvels

The match took place at R. Premadasa Stadium where Colombo St??rikers won the toss and opted to bowl first.

The Galle Marvels struggled to post an above-par score, with only the impactful batting of Tim Siefert and Bhanuka Rajapaksa contributing to at least a match-prevailing total. Both managed to score 44 and 35 r??uns, respectively.

In response, the Colombo Strikers got a good start thanks to Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s attacking approach. Muhammad Waseem scored 50, whereas Glenn Phillips played an anchor role alongside Sadeera Samarawickrama, which finally took them to steady victory, with them stand?ing third on the table.

In the 12th over of South Africa’s innings, Pathirana unleashed a magnificent swinging yorker at a speed of 151kph. The delivery homed in late on Klaasen’s pads, causing the South African batsman to lose balance and tumble on the pitch.
