With 20 teams gearing up for a fierce competit??ion, this event will mark a significant moment as the West Indies will host their first ICC World Cup since 2010, offering a global stage for the USA to also showcase its cricketing prowess. The buzz around the tournament, still four months away, is already palpable.

Martin Guptill’s semifinal predictions

New Zealand‘s white-ball stalwart, Martin Guptill, has weighed in on the early predictions for the T20 World Cup semifinalists. Guptill has confidently chosen India, New Zealand and Australia as strong contenders for the top four spots. However, the fourth spot remains undecided, with Guptill confused between England and Pakistan. In the p?revious edition held in Australia, England and Pakistan emerge??d as finalists, with England ultimately securing the title with a five-wicket victory.

“It’s a tough one but I would pick Australia, India and New Zealand. I can’t decide between England and Pakistan (laughs)…one of those two,” Guptill was quoted as saying by India.com.

Guptill’s T20 world cup legacy for New Zealand

Guptill has an impressive T20 World Cup legacy, having participated in a record seven editions for the Blackcaps. His contribut??ion includes 28 T20 World Cup matches, amassing 617 runs, with a highest score of 93 against Scotland.

A day after being released from his New Zealand central contract, veteran opener Martin Guptill has joined Melbourne Renegades for the upcoming Big Bash League? (BBL) 2022-23, starting December 13 in Canberra.

Guptill is the latest Black Caps player to play in the BBL after getting released from the contract. Earlier, fast bowler Trent Boult also followed the same route and joined Melbourne Stars in the overseas player draft in August.

Further, all-rounder, Colin de Grandhomme has also been released from New Zealand Cricket to represent Adelaide Strikers. The difference, however, is that Grandhomme has retired from international cricket while Guptill and Boult haven’t.

Guptill, who has accumulated almost 11,000 runs across 320 games for his country in ODI and T20I cricket, has been roped in at Renegades as a replacement for No. 1 draft pick Liam Livingstone, who withdrew from the season due to international commitments. Guptill will join the Renegades following Andre Russell’s four-game stint at the beginning of the tournament.

“I’m excited to be joining the Renegades and am looking forward to being part of the Big Bash this season. This is a new challenge for me, and it will be nice to call Melbourne home for the summer. I’ll be trying to make as many runs as I can to help drive the Renegades back up the ladder and push for team success,” said Guptill in an official statement.

“I’ve crossed paths with a few of the guys over the years on the international circuit and know this will be a great team environment to be part of. I can’t wait to join up with the team after Christmas and play in front of plenty of Renegades fans at Marvel Stadium and in Geelong,” he added.

Notably, Guptill’s only appearance in the BBL came in a one-off game for Sydney Thunder ten seasons ago. James Rosengarten, Renegades General Manager, said the club is delighted t?o have Guptill on board.

“We’re delighted to have a player of Martin’s calibre joining the Renegades, and we’re excited that he has chosen to play for our club. Martin’s record over a long period of time in the shortest form of the game for New Zealand and in domestic competitions around the world speaks for itself. We know Martin will add a wealth of experience and knowledge to our playing group and look forward to seeing what he can produce in red,” said Rosengarten.

betvisa888 betMartin Guptill – Cricket Times - betvisa login //betvisa68.com/2022/11/martin-guptill-released-from-new-zealands-central-contract/ Wed, 23 Nov 2022 05:57:39 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=66973

New Zealand veteran Martin Guptill has been released from his central contract, the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed on Wednesday (Nove??mber 23).

Guptill seems to have lost his place in both white-ball teams as New Zealand have started giving preference to their young opener Finn Allen. Notably, Guptill was part of the Black Caps squad in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia but wasn’t given a single game. Similarly, in the recently-concluded T20I series against India, the senior opener was left out of the squad.

G??uptill has not retired from international cricket and has even expressed his desire to continue playing. But the 36-year-old also admitted that he understands what the team needs and with this he will get a chance to explore other opportunities.

“Playing for my country has been a massive honour, and I’m grateful to everyone within the Blackcaps and NZC for their support. But, equally, I’m realistic enough to understand the need to consider my options in the current circumstances. With this release, I’m still available for New Zealand, I have the chance to explore other opportunities, and I also get to spend more time with my family – which is important,” said Guptill, as quoted by Stuff.

NZC chief executive David White termed Guptill a legendary cricketer and stated that the Auckland-born had earned the right to pla?y out? his career on his own terms.

“We understand Martin’s position. He’s been a fantastic batsman for us for a long period of time, and we certainly don’t wish to stand in his way as he explores other opportunities. Martin’s been a giant of the white ball game, a committed and well-respected member of the Blackcaps, and has earned the right to play out his career on his own terms. He leaves his contract with our best wishes,” said White.

If, by any means, Guptill doesn’t get to play again, he will finish his career with staggering numbers. He has scored 7346 runs in 198 ODIs, which places him third on New Zealand’s all-time list, with 18 hundreds and 39 half-centuries [including a double ton (237)] in the 50-overs format. In 122 T20Is, Guptill amassed 3531 runs – most by any New Zealander – and has two centuries and 20 fifties to his name.

New Zealand’s Martin Guptill pulled off an amazing c?atch on Sunday in the T20I series opener against Bangladesh at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

Bangladesh were set a target of 211 to chase by the hosts, and in the 19th over of the second innings, Shoriful Islam, the 19-year-old, tried to hit Hamish Bennett for a maximum.

Guptill, wh?o was fielding on the off-side, ran backwards and timed his jump t?o perfection to grab a blinder with both hands.

That wicket was the eighth to fall for Bangladesh as they were eventually restricted to 144 for 8 in 20 overs and lost by 66 runs. Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand? with 4??/24.

Earlier in the first innings, Devon Conway hit an unbeaten 92 off 52 balls while Will Young chipped in with a 30-ball 53. Opener Guptill scored 35 off 27 balls with the help of 3 fo?urs and two sixes.

The team total of 210 for 3 was enough for the Blackcaps to register a win.

The next two games of the three-match series will be played in Napier and Auc??kland on March 30 and April 1, respectively.

After facing two heavy defeats from Australia at an empty Sky Stadium, New Zealand came back strongly in the series decider on Sunday with the crowd roaring in favour of the home side. The Black Caps regained their confidence amid the presence of the fans and defeated Australia in the fifth T20I to win the Trans-Tasman series by 3-2.

After opting to bat, Australia could only manage to post 142/8 on the scoreboard in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to disciplined bowling by Kiwis. Matthew Wade, who struggled to score runs in the whole series, smashed his team’s maximum in the Sunday afternoon fixture.

The wicketkeeper-batsman contributed 44 from 29 deliveries and formed a crucial partnership of 66-runs with skipper Aaron Finch for the second wicket. Finch was the second-highest scorer for the visitors, with 36 off 32 balls. All-rounder Marcus Stoinis also made a valu??able contribution by ?making 26 as the touring side scored 142 with the loss of eight wickets.

Ish Sodhi was again the pick of the bowlers for the hosts after he bagged as many as three wickets for 24 in his quota of 4 overs. Apart from Sodhi, Tim Southee and Trent Boult took two scalps each, while Mark Chapman earned one wicket.

In reply, New Zealand had a tremendous start as the pair of Devon Conway, and Martin Guptill added 106-runs for the opening wicket to completely demolish Australia’s hopes for making a comeback in the game.

Although Aussie pacer Riley Meredith picked up two in two balls after he dismissed Conway (36) and Kane Williamson (0), but it was too late for th??e tourists to bounce back in the contest. Guptill went on to score 71 from 46 deliveries laced up with seven fours and four sixes as the home team chased down the target in 15.3 overs with seven wickets in hand.

Guptill was named Player of the Match, while Sodhi, who bagged 13 wickets in the series, was given the Player of the Series award.

MS Dhoni’s run-out during the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand at Old Trafford was the turning point, with India potentially looking like getting really close to the target before the veteran wicket-keeper batsman was found short by a direct-hit onto the stumps from Martin Guptill.

It was the third delivery of the 49th over with Dhoni on strike and Bhuveshwar Kumar at the other end when the former gloved the ball towards short fine-leg. Having a tailender along wi?th him at the other end, Dhoni wanted a strike?? and ran for the second run but was found short of his crease.

Guptill’s throw was perfect and Dhoni, who mostly has a superb judge of a run, was for once left short.

Millions of Indian fans’ hearts were broken after that run-out and clips showing Dhoni walking back after getting out were doing the rounds in which the Ranch-born seemingly burst into tears. It’s been one year since then, and Dhoni has not played for the Men in Blue.

Here’s the video:

Earlier, India we??re 92-6 and looking down the barrel before all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja joined Dhoni and raised hopes of a counter. In the end, their partnership of ??116 runs was the highest in the history of the World Cup for the seventh wicket.

But the start was a disaster for India as the in-form Rohit Sharma (1), captain Virat Kohli (1)??, opener KL Rahul (1) and Din??esh Karthik (6) were done in by some brilliant bowling of Matt Henry and Trent Boult.

With Dhoni at the crease, there was still a belief that India would be able to gun down the total and seal a ticket to the Lord’s final on July 14.

Jadeja (77 off 59 balls) used every ounce of his ‘bits and pieces’ skill but India could only get as far as 221 in 49.3 overs in pursuit of 240.

The much-awaited quadrennial ODI World Cup final lived up to the expectations of millions, as nothing could distinguish between England? and New Zealand, even after 100 overs of cricketing ?action.

To decide the winners, a high-octane Super Over took place and even then, the two teams scored the ??same amount of runs.

However, a bizarre boundary-count rule, which was scrapped later, helped the host being crowne?d world champions of ODI cricket.

During the Super Over, a maximum of three batsmen can be nominated by one side to face six deliveri??es from the bowler from the ??opposition.

New Zealand captain, Kane Williamson sent Jimmy Neesham and Martin Guptill to face the music in the middle. Now, Williamson has opened up about the reason behind sending the two batters to face Jofra Archer.

“I had a very brief discussion with the coach Gary Stead. We had a few guys in my mind who could go out to bat as we were going to bat second in the Super Over. The decision to send out batsmen was dependent on how much we were chasing and who the bowler is probably going to be,” Kane Williamson told Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube show ‘DRS with Ash’.

Williamson credited Neesham’s hitting form throughout the tournament and Guptill’s ability to take quick singles as the primary reason behind the decision of sending them to chase down the English total.

“It was about giving yourself with the best possible opportunity. Neesham was hitting the ball very well throughout the World Cup, and we all know how capable Guptill is of hitting the ball out of the park, there was a short boundary on one side of the ground. They are both quicks between the 22 yards, so this helped too.” Williamson added.

The Black Caps’ skipper persisted with Guptill despite his lean patch with the bat in the tournament.

The only prominent contribution from Guptill was the direct-hit ?from the deep which dismissed MS Dhoni in the semi-finals of the tournament, eventually helping New Zealand book their berth in the final.

“I was padded up to come in at three. It was a different experience to be a part of, both Neesham and Guptill did a good job. Jofra Archer is a remarkable bowler, emotions were so high after the final, it was a long tournament when the time comes, and it finishes, it’s like a draining feeling as all of it finishes. The guys were filled with emotion after what really transpired,” Williamson concluded.

betvisa casinoMartin Guptill – Cricket Times - betvisa888 live //betvisa68.com/2020/03/top-5-longest-sixes-in-international-cricket/ Wed, 25 Mar 2020 04:41:26 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=39243

Ever since the T20 format came, it changed the entire dynamics of cricket. Although the Test format still remains a vital one, limited-overs cricket,? especially T20, has b?ecome more and more popular.

Due to the shortest format of? the game, even One-Day Internationals (ODIs) have become aggressive these days, and one would have noticed teams posting 300+ scores more often.

The last 15 year??s have witnessed a lot of fresh innovations in run-scoring. Players like Brendon McCullum, AB de Villiers, and Jos Buttler have shown glimpses of such exciting shots. Due to it, ther??e has been a significant increment in sixes as well.

The fact is that six-hitting is an art, and not many cricketers have excelled in it. Players like Sanath Jayasuriya, Shahid Afridi, Adam Gilchrist, ??????????????????????????Chris Gayle, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, and Kieron Pollard are some names that come to mind straight away whenever there is a discussion of six-hitters.

As per the data in The Cricket Monthly ?a digital magazine from ESPNcricinfo ?let’s have a look at five players who have smashed longest sixes in the history of international cricket

5.) Yuvraj Singh – 119m

Yuvraj Singh (2007 T20 WC)

The 2011 World Cup hero, Yuvraj Singh has been a valuable asset for Team India. He single handedly won many international matches for his side. In the inaugural season of the T20 World Cup, Yuvraj registered history when he smacked six sixes in Stuart Broad’s over against England.

But apart from six sixes, Yuvi also reached another feat when he smashed a gigantic six against Brett Lee at Johannesburg. T?he Chandigarh-born scored 70 off just 30 balls. During his blistering knock, Yuvraj flicked a delivery by Lee over square leg for a maximum. The distance was counted as 119 meters and therefore, it became one of the longest six in international cricket.

4.) Shahid Afridi – 120m

Shahid Afridi (2013 ODI against SA)

Known as a specialist in six-hitting, Shahid Afridi has smashed 476 sixes in h?is international career, which is the second-highest after Chris Gayle (534). Afridi was undoubtedly the most destructive batsman of the modern era.

In his massive list of sixes, Afridi smashed a 120 meter maximum against South Africa in the third ODI at Johannesburg in 2013. The Pakistani genius smacked it so hard that the ball went over the roof of the stand at ?the Wanderers Sta??dium.

3.) Mark Waugh – 120m

Mark Waugh

Mark Waugh, one of the elegant and stylish Australian batsman, struck some mighty hits during his playing days. One such hit came against New Zealand in a Test match at Perth where Waugh sent a Daniel Vittori’s ball straight down the ground for a massive six.

The epic hit covered a distance of 120 meters, and it still remains as one of the biggest maximums in the inte???rnational circuit.

2.) Martin Guptill – 127m

Martin Guptill

New Zealand’s destructive opening batsman Martin Guptill is quite famous for his attacking cricket and taking the bowlers to the cleaners. In 2012, Guptill struck a mighty hit at Westpac Stadium in Wellington during a T20I against South Africa.

Guptill smashed a Lonwabo Tsotsobe’s delivery for a six that travelled 127 meters over the midwicket boundary. The ball hit the roof of the stand and landed back in the ground.

1.) Brett Lee – 135m

Brett Lee

Believe it or not, in international cricket, the longest six has been hammered by a bowler, and that is Au??stralian speedster, Brett Lee. In 2005, during a Test match against West Indies, Lee smashed a humongous hit at The Gabba, which went over the roof and travelled between 130-135 meters.

The thing to note here is that Lee was using a non-standard carbon-fiber-reinforced bat th??at was banned soon afte?rward.
