New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson will miss the upcoming Test series against England due to a back stress fracture and is doubtful to represent the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Jamieson, 28, has been o??ut of action since June last year, and the reports of his scans ahead of the opening Test in Mount Maunganui has revealed the recurrence of stress fr??acture. So now, he will return to Christchurch for further assessment.

“It’s really gutting for Kyle to have this happen after he’d put so much hard work in to getting himself back on the park,” New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said in his official statement. “Since the injury in June we’ve certainly taken a cautious approach to managing his return with regular monitoring by our medical staff which has included scans.

“While Kyle’s not feeling any pain, the evidence is pretty clear he has a stress-fracture and so he’ll return to Christchurch today and have a CT scan on Friday before we decide on the next steps.”

In the mini-auction for IPL 2023, the four-time champions CSK put their weight behind the acquisition of all-rounders in their squad. They roped in Jamieson at a base price of INR 1 crore, but his injury has forced CSK to address the succession issue. They will have to look for Jamieson’s replacement as soon as possible.

The IPL 2023 is likely to begin in the first week of April, i.e. after the conclusion of Women’s Premier League (WPL).

New Zealand fast bowling all-rounder Kyle Jamieson and wicketkeeper Cam Fletcher have been ruled out of the ongoing three-match Test series against England. Jamieson is suffering from a ‘stress reaction’ on his lower back, while Fletcher has been ruled out with a grade-two right hamstring strain.

Notably, Jamieson sustained the injury while bowling on Day 3 of the recently-concluded second Test at T??rent ??Bridge in Nottingham. The injury kept the lanky pacer away from the action for the remaining part of the match, apart from a short appearance for batting in the second innings.

Jamieson would require four to six weeks of rest before starting a rehabilitation program, and he is set to return home, confirmed Black Caps coach Gary Stead. Blair Tickner has been called into the squad as Jamieson’s replacement and will arrive in the UK ahead of the third and final Test at Leeds next week.

Like Jamieson, Fletcher suffered from the injury while fielding on Day 4 of the Trent Bridge Test and will require six to eight weeks to recover. Dane Cleaver has received his maiden Test call-up as a replacement for Fletcher??.

“It’s always sad to see players forced to leave a tour early with an injury. Kyle had played such a big role in the first Test at Lord’s, and I know how disappointed he was to have had his involvement in the second Test curtailed. He’s obviously a huge asset for us, and we’ll be making sure we are patient with his recovery to ensure he returns fully fit with plenty more important cricket still to come later this year,” said Stead in a statement.

“It’s exciting for Blair and Dane to be joining us for the final Test at Headingley next week. Blair was with us for the first part of the tour, and his skills will be a valuable asset to the squad. On Tuesday, New Zealand fast-bowling all-rounder Kyle Jamieson was slapped with a 15 per cent fine of his match fee for using ‘inappropriate language’ in the second Test against Bangladesh at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

It all happened during the 41st over of Bangladesh’s first innings when Jamieson bowled a short-pitched delivery to Yasir Ali. In an attempt to go for a glory shot, Yasir ended up giving an easy catch to Daryl Mitchell at the deep mid-wicket region.

However, after removing the batter, Jamieson used some words which according to match referee Jeff Crowe were inappropriate and fo??und the bowler guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.

As per an ICC statement, Jamieson had breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This article is related to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”

Additionally, one demerit point was also added to Jamieson’s disciplinary record. It was the third offence in 24 months, taking his total demerit points to three. Notably, Jamieson’s previous breaches occurred in March 2021 during an ODI against Bangladesh in Christchurch and in December 2020 in a Test match against Pakistan in Tauranga.

On-field umpires Chris Gaffaney and Wayne Knights, third umpire Chris Brown and fourth umpire Shaun Haig levelled the charge. Jamieson admitted his offence and accepted the sanction? proposed by match referee Crowe.

For the unversed, Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

Meanwhile, New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 117 ?runs to draw the two-match series at 1-1.

Captain Tom Latham (252) was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his splendid double century in the first innings. Apart from Latham, Devon Conway also scored a t??remendous 109 to help Black Caps declare their first innings at a m??ammoth 521/6.

So I don’t think it is necessarily just for him (Kohli),” said Jamieson at the post-day presser.

The 26-year-old mentioned that Kohli is a world-class batsman and his wicket made th?ings slightly easy f?or them.

“Oh, not really, I think, he is (Kohli) a world-class batter, and those guys don’t tend to have too many chinks in their armoury. He is obviously a massive part of their line-up, and to get him early certainly set things up nicely for us,” added Jamieson.
