betvisa888 betJP Duminy – Cricket Times - betvisa login //betvisa68.com/2025/02/jp-duminy-predicts-the-finalists-of-icc-champions-trophy-2025/ Fri, 14 Feb 2025 12:39:14 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=177392

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to be one of the biggest cricketing events of the year, featuring the world’s top teams battling for supremacy in the 50-over format. Scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9, the tournament will be hosted across Pakistan and Dubai. With some of the strongest crick??eting nations participating, discussions around title contenders and potential matchups have already begun.

JP Duminy picks the finalists of ICC Champions Trophy 2025

With powerhouse teams like India, Pakistan, Australia, England, South Africa and New Zealand in contention, experts and former cricketers have already started predicting which sides have the best chance of lifting the trophy. One of the most exciting prospects for the tournament is the possibility of a rematch between India and South Africa in the final, a sentiment echoed by former South African all-rounder JP Duminy.

South Africa, historically known?? for their struggles in knockout matches of ICC tournaments, showed glimpses of their true potential in the T20 World Cup 2024, where they reached the final before losing to India. Duminy believed that South Africa has what it takes to challenge for the Champions Trophy if their key players can maintain consistency and deliver match-winning performances.

“I think that would be ideal. Look, I know that from a white-ball point of view, particularly in one-day cricket, South Africa hasn’t necessarily played its best cricket. But what encourages me about South Africa is that, in big tournaments, we seem to see the best of them-we saw that in the T20 World Cup in June,” Duminy said to Times of India in an interview.

Duminy’s thoughts on South Africa’s chances

Duminy further highlighted that despite their history of underperforming in ICC knockout matches, South Africa’s squad has the necessary firepower to make a deep run in the? Champions Trophy. He particularly emphasized how the team stepped up in the T20 format earlier this year, making their first-ever appearance in an ICC World Cup final, and suggested that a similar performance in the 50-over format could take them all the way.

According to Duminy, what separates championship-winning teams from the rest is the ability of key players to deliver under pressure. He believed that South Africa possesses a core group of match-winners who, if they maintain consistency, can make them a formidable force in the tournament. With the likes of Heinrich Klaasen, Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj and David Miller in the squad, he is confident that South? Africa has a well-rounded tea?m capable of going the distance.

“Heinrich Klaasen is in a league of his own right now, particularly in white-ball cricket. We’ve seen that across the globe in every tournament he has played. It would be ideal if he remains in good form. But the reality of tournaments-whether it’s the World Cup or the Champions Trophy-is that you need two or three players to be consistently performing. One player can win you a game here and there, but for sustained success, you need consistency with both bat and ball. So, players like Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj-especially in those conditions-Marco Jansen, and obviously Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller will be crucial. If two or three of them can find consistency, it will give us the best chance to win,” the 40-year-old added.

Road to Champions Trophy 2025 and leadership

Rohit’s leadership has been instrumental in India’s resurgence in ICC tournaments, and his experience of handling high-pressure games will be crucial in guiding the team through challenging matchups. Having played under Rohit’s captaincy for Mumbai Indians in 2018, Duminy heaped praise on the Indian skipper, calling him a “great leader” who remains calm and composed regardless of his form.

He emphasized that Rohit’s ability to stay consistent in his approach, irrespective of individual performances, makes him a great asset to the Indian team. Duminy fur??ther added that leadership in major? tournaments is about resilience, and he has no doubt that Rohit will bounce back stronger if faced with challenges during the Champions Trophy.

“Form is temporary, class is permanent (on Rohit). I was reminded of that a few days ago, and Rohit certainly fits that mold. I have no doubt he will come back stronger. I’ve had the privilege of playing alongside him, and one of his greatest attributes is his consistency in who he is-regardless of his performances. He’s a great leader, and he has enjoyed tremendous success with both the Mumbai Indians and the Indian team,” Duminy concluded.

In a surprising twist during the 3rd and final ODI between Ireland and South Africa, South Africa’s white-ball batting coach JP Duminy was seen fielding during the last over of Ireland’s innings on Monday (October 7). The retired cricketer, renowned for his sharp ??fielding skills during his playing days, came on as a substitute as several South African players were affected by the extreme heat in Abu Dhabi.

JP Duminy’s moment of brilliance on the field

Duminy, who played over 300 matches for South Africa across all formats, delivered a remarkable display of fielding as he dived in the final over of Ireland’s innings. The moment unfolded when Ireland’s Harry Tector attempted a reverse swat off Andile Phehlukwayo’s delivery. As the ball turned sharply after pitching, Duminy’s quick reflexes saw him dive to stop the ball, preventing the Irish batters from taking extra runs. Despite being retired, Duminy’s agility and instinctive reaction reminded fans of his exceptional fielding brilliance during his international career. His effort brought a sense of nostalgia, as Duminy was known for his fielding finesse, having taken 155 catches in 326 international matches.

Ireland’s strong batting display

Earlier in the match, Ireland’s captain Paul Stirling chose to bat first after winning the toss, and the Irish team capitalized on the decision with a strong start. Stirling and Andy Balbirnie formed a solid 101-run opening partnership in 23.2 overs. Stirling led the charge with a captain’s knock of 88 off 92 balls, supported by vital contributions from Harry Tector (60), Andy Balbirnie (45), Curtis Campher (34) and Lorcan Tucker (26), help?ing Ireland post a formidable 284/9 in their 50 overs.

South Africa’s struggle in reply

South Africa’s chase faltered early as they lost three wickets within the first five overs, reducing them to 10/3. Jason Smith fought back with a gritty 91, but the Irish bowlers, backed by Stirling’s clever field placements, kept the pressure on throughout the innings. In the end, South Africa was bowled out for 215 in 47 overs, falling short by 69 runs. Stirling’s all-around performance earned him the Player of the Match award, while South African pacer Lizaad Williams, with 11 wickets in the series, was named Player of the Series despite the Proteas’ 2-1 series victory.

betvisa casinoJP Duminy – Cricket Times - betvisa888 //betvisa68.com/2020/07/top-5-highest-t20i-average-among-batsmen-who-played-minimum-40-innings/ Tue, 21 Jul 2020 14:32:37 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=44685

The development of cricket in the modern era has always tilted the balance of favour towards batsmen. Whether it’s shorter boundaries, fielding restrictions or flatter pitches, the batsmen have gained an edge over bowlers in the last couple of decades.

If the era of 80s and 90s were known for predatory instincts of fast-bowlers who showed little mercy to the batsmen, t??he present age of the game is dominated by explosive, big-hittin??g batters.

The shortest format of the game, T20, is wholly built on the power-hitters capable of launching a no-holds-barred assault on bowlers. Despite all these advantages, very few batsmen are able to score runs with ease and consistency in T20Is. It requires different mindsets, skillsets and technicalities to succeed as batsmen don’t get enough time to settle.

H?owever, some players rise above these challenges and excel in all three form??ats of the game.

Let’s have a look at the top-five batsmen who played minimum 40 innings and boast the highest average in T20Is:

Virat Kohli – 50.80

Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli (Image Source: Twitter)

This is perhaps the most unsurprising name in the list. Virat Kohli is one of the rare breeds of play??er for whom the vagaries and intricacies of playing different formats never affect his performance.

As adept as he is in the other two formats, Kohli has manage?d to successfully replicate his dominanc?e to the shortest form of the game.

The 31-year-old made his T20 debut against Zimbabwe in 2010, and since then, there’s no looking back for the talisman.

In 76 ??innings, the Indian skipper has scored 2794 runs at an astounding average of 50.80.

JP Duminy – 38.68

JP Duminy
JP Duminy (Image Source: Twitter)

JP Duminy has been one of the most attract??ive players for South Africa in this format. Although he was an all-format cricketer for the Proteas, his real ability and usefulness came to the fore in T20 cricket.

Duminy made his debut against Bangladesh in ICC World T20, 2007. He opened the innings with the then skipper Graeme Smith and played a crucial role in South Africa’s triumph.

Duminy has?? featured in 75 innings for South Africa in T20Is and scored 1934 runs at an averag??e of 38.68

Aaron Finch – 38.25

Aaron Finch
Aaron Finch (Image Source: Twitter)

Aaron Finch is an aggressive opening batsman for Aus?tralia. He, along with David Warner, forms one of the most fearsome and menacing batting duos in the cricketing world.

It was his consistent exploits in the shortest format that earned him a spot in Australia’s highly competitive ODI squad.

In 61 T20I innings,? Finch has scored 1989 runs at a terrific average of 38.25, including two centuries and twel?ve half-centuries.

MS Dhoni – 37.60

MS Dhoni

Taking MS Dhoni’s first impression in the account, it always looked T20 is a format tailor-made for the wonder kid from Ranchi.

Dhoni made his T20 debut against South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium in 2006. He got out for a two-ball duc?k in that match.

However, in a career spanning over 98 T20I for India, the for??mer Indian skipper accumulated 1617 runs at an average of 37.60

Brendon McCullum – 35.67

Brendon McCullum

Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum is easily o??ne of the finest wicket-keeping batsmen to ha?ve come out from a tiny island nation.

The batting pyrotechnics McCullum exhibited in T20 cricket needs no introduction to cricket fanatics. He has a distinguish??ed record of being the first man?? ever to reach the 1000-runs landmark in T20 cricket.

McCullum played 70 T20 innings for New Zealand, scoring more than 2000 runs at a commendable average of 35.67, in??cluding ??two centuries.

Amid coronavirus pandemic followed by worldwide lo??ckdown, many former cricketers are trying different things to engage with their fans. Some are naming their best XI featuring cricketers from all around the world while some are coming up with their favourite batsmen/bowlers. The latest name on this bandwagon ?is former South African all-rounder JP Duminy.

During an Instagram live session with former Zimbabwe pacer Pommie Mbangwa, Duminy picked up his favourite batsman of modern-day cricket. The 36-year-old named India vice-captain Rohit Sharma as his most liked batsman. Duminy said he loves Rohit’s pull shot.

“Rohit Sharma is my favourite batsman, I like his pick-up pull shot,” said Duminy.

Rohit had a terrific World Cup which was held in England and Wales last year. With 648 runs under his belt, Rohit was the highest run-scorer in the global showpiece? event. In nine games, the Mumbaikar scored runs at a phenomenal average of 81.00. Rohit also became the first ??batsman to score five centuries in a single edition of the 50-over World Cup.

Overall, the 33-year-old has played 224 ODIs, 108 T20Is, and 32 Tests so far. He has scored 14,029 runs across all formats. Rohit is the only player in the world to have scored three double centuries in ODI cricket. Not only this, but he also holds the record for the highest ??individual score in ODIs when he smashed 264 runs against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens.

Earlier, Rohit had reminisced about the India versus Australia contest in the inaugural edition of T20 World Cup in South Africa. The Nagpur-born had said he ‘couldn’t believe his eyes’ watching fans’ celebrations. The ‘Hitman’ also revealed how fans play an essential part in the game and help the team to win matches.

“You never realize you’re playing for the Indian cricket team until you witness the support of the fans. I still remember when we won against Australia in the semi-final in 2007, our hotel was full of fans, and they were all celebrating and dancing,” Rohit had said.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes as I hadn’t seen anything like this before. You always see fans in the stadium, but that day at the hotel, seeing all of those supporters, I felt that it is the fans’ passion and love that keeps the team going,” he had added.

South African veteran JP Duminy has picked his all-time IPL XI, where he ?made some interesting inclusions an??d omissions.

At the opening slot, he went ahead with ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle, and IPL-winning captain Adam Gilchrist.

Gayle has featured for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) an??d now Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).

Gilchrist, on the other hand, won the IPL title in 2009 with Deccan Chargers (DC) as a captain and donned the colours of ?KXIP later.

At number three, Duminy slotted in Mumbai Indians (?MI) captain Rohit Sharma who won four IPL titles with his home ground-based franchise.

Virat Kohli walks in at number four and also captains Duminy’s all-time IPL XI. Kohli’s RCB teammate AB de Villiers was placed at number five.

The Protean stalwart then went ahead with Caribbean firepower at the all-rounder’s slot, featuring Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard. The two have been marquee players for MI and KKR for a number of seasons, thus far.

Duminy, who played for Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils, did have any room for talismanic Chennai Super Kings (CSK) players MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina.

The bowling lineup of Duminy’s all-time IPL XI consists of Brett Lee, Lasith Malinga, Muttiah Muralitharan and Imran Tahir.

Lee donned the jersey of KXIP during the initial seasons of the IPL, before making a move to KKR.
Malinga has been a constant for MI’s lineup over the years and is also amongst the leading wicket-takers in the history of IPL. The two spinners in the side, Muralitharan and Tahir, had their own impact at CSK.

Here is JP Duminy’s all-time IPL XI:

Chris Gayle, Adam?? Gil??????????????????????????christ (wk), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (c), AB de Villiers, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Brett Lee, Muttiah Muralitharan, Lasith Malinga, Imran Tahir.

When it comes to T20 cricket, the final over is what makes it count. A team might play well throughout the 19 overs, but one over of bad cricket can stil??l make them end up on the losing side,? and vice-versa.

The shortest format of the game has given additional weightage to the art of finishing. Over th??e vast history of T20 cricket, many have provided impactful performances during the 20th over of the tournament.

Let’s have a look at the three batsmen who have the best strike-rates during the 20th over in T20 cricket:

3. David Miller

David Miller
David Miller. (Image Source: Twitter)

The 30-year old South African middle-o?rder batsman is a renowned cosmopolitan when it comes to franchise cricket.

?The Natal-born cricketer has served Kings XI Punjab for a remarkable tenure, before being released before the auctions last year. Other clubs Miller represents include Hobart Hurricanes, Jamaica Tallawahs, Winnipeg Hawks, and Durban Heat.

Miller strikes the ball at a phenomenal strike rate of 227.35 during the 20th over, largely coming while sett??ing scores for the opposition. The T20 giant holds an impressi?ve tally of 495 fours and 300 sixes in all T20 matches.

2. Jean-Paul Duminy

JP Duminy

JP Duminy (227.64) carries only a marginal strike rate above Miller during the ultimate over of the innin??gs.

The former South African limited-overs batting mainstay at the middle orde??r has played for various teams for IPL, including the Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Daredevils.

Much like Miller, most of his heroics in the 20th over have come while batting first and setting targets. Duminy has smashed 463 boundaries and 221 maximums in glittering T??20 career.

1. Rohit Sharma

The Hitman holds the record for the highest strike rate during the final?? over in T20 cricket, with? his whopping tally of 269.56.

His abilities to finish games of cricket was displayed recently against New Zealand?? where he hit the final ball for a gigantic six to seal India’s win in a Super Over.

Most of these runs have come while donning the jersey of Mumbai Indians. Unlike in the Indian sid?e, Rohit comes at number four position, holding the responsibility to anchor the innings through dea??th.

Over the years, Rohit has accumulated a massive ??763?? fours and 361 sixes in his majestic T20 career.

Former South African captain JP Duminy has announced retirement from all f??orms of the game. He had retired from international cricket after the conclusion of World Cup 2019 but continued playing the franchise cricket.

Duminy featured in Global T20 Canada and Caribbean Premier League. The southpaw was also a part of Paarl Rocks’ squad in the Mzansi Super League (MSL), but due to an injury, he was unable to play for the team. However, he continued to stay with the Rocks as the mentor and guided them to clinch their maiden MSL title (2019).

After announcing the retirement, Duminy said that lack of purpose is the main reason why he decided to put final brakes in his journey as a cricketer. As per the left-handed batsman, he didn’t see any ambition for himself in franchise cricket.

“My drivers have always been if there is a purpose. When it came to South Africa, there was a higher purpose and the kids that look up to you. My ambition is to make it known to younger players about that responsibility,” Duminy was quoted as saying by IOL.

“It is great to be free and young, but to also be aware of what you do has consequences. With great power comes great responsibility. And playing international cricket you had a degree of purpose,” added Duminy.

“I am young enough to play and still earn money from the franchise game, but I am lacking a strong purpose with that. I played CPL and Canadian Premier League. I found at the CPL there is a hunger for young players to seek out older players. I don’t know what’s next. I had to take a bold step of closing a door before I could open the next door,” Duminy added further.

Duminy is the leading run-scorer in T20Is for South Africa, and o?verall, he sits at the ninth ??spot. In 81 matches, the southpaw scored 1934 runs with 96 not out being his highest.

The 35-year-old played 46 Tests and 199 ODIs as well, in which he amassed 2103 and 5100 runs, respectively. He wa?s also a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he scored over 2000 ru??ns in 83 appearances.
