Cricket Ireland has officially announced their squads for the all-format tour of Zimbabwe, a series eagerly awaited by fans and players alike. Ireland’s squads will be led by experienced captains Andrew Balbirnie in the Test format and Paul Stirling in the ODIs and T20Is, showcasi??????????????????????????ng a blend o??f stability and aggressive leadership.

Ireland’s all-format tour of Zimbabwe

The tour kicks off with a historic one-off Test match at the iconic Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, scheduled from February 6-10, 2025. This match is particularly momentous as it marks the first time Zimbabwe will host Ireland in the longest format, underlining the growing camaraderie and competition between these two nations. Following the Test, the action shifts to Harare for three ODIs on February 14, 16, and 18, followed by an exciting three-match T20I series on February 22, 23, and 25. All six limited-overs matches will be played ?at the Harare Sports Club, promising thrilling cricketing battles in both formats.

New talent and key inclusions in Ireland’s squad

Ireland’s squad sees exciting new inclusions, with Morgan Topping earning his maiden call-up to both the Test and ODI squads. His selection reflects Cricket Ireland’s commitment to nurturing young talent for the rigors of international cricket. Gavin Hoey, who debuted in October, retains?? hi?s place in the ODI squad and is poised for a potential Test debut, marking another step forward in his budding career.

The return of paceman Joshua Little to the white-ball squads significantly bolsters Ireland’s bowling attack, providing both experience and aggression. Additionally, Gareth Delany and Barry McCarthy, returning from injuries, add depth to the side, while Craig Young’s omission ?from the T20 squad undersc?ores the competition for places.

Zimbabwe’s current form and historic test rivalry

This Test will be only the second meeting between Ireland and Zimbabwe in the longest fo?rmat. Their first encounter, held in Belfast in July 2024, ended in a thrilling four-wicket victory for Ireland, a matc?h remembered for its nail-biting finish and high-quality performances.

Zimbabwe enter this series after a demanding multi-format home campaign against Afghanistan, where they lost the T20I and ODI series 2-1 and 2-0, respectively. However, they showed resilience in the Test format, securing a draw in the rain-affected first match before competing in the ongoing second Test. With home advantage ?and the momentum from a hard-fought series, Zimbabwe will aim to challenge Ireland across formats.

Welsh Fire secured a convincing eight-wicket victory over Manchester Originals in the third match of The Hundred’s Men 2024 at Old Trafford.

The Originals, led by Phil Salt, experienced a batting collapse, with David Willey and Joshua Little leading the charge for the Welsh’s bowling attack. The Originals were restricted to a meager 86/8, and the Welsh’s batting lineup clinically chased the target in just 57 deliveries.

David Willey’s destructive spell

Winning the toss, Welsh elected to field, putting the Originals into bat. Willey immediately made an impact by dismissing Phil Salt with the second delivery of the match. Willey’s destructive spell continued as he quickly took two more wickets, leaving the Originals reeling at 4/3 within just 15 balls.

Joshua Little takes out Sikandar Raza with a beauty

With the Originals in deep trouble, Sikandar Raza joined Wayne Madsen in an attempt to stabilize the innings. However, Raza’s stay was cut short by Little.

On the second delivery of the sixth set, Little bowled a good-length delivery around the off stump that nipped back in, ca??tching Raza off guard. Raza attempted a defensive shot but the ball hit the under edge of the bat and crashed into the stumps, sending Raza back to the pavilion. This left the Originals at a precarious 19/4 after 27 balls.

Manchester Originals’ struggle and late-stage recovery

The wickets kept falling, leaving the team at a precarious 35/6 by the halfway point. Early dismissals of key players like Salt and Laurie Evans added pressure to the batting lineup. The Originals’ batting lineup continued to falter with Usama Mir‘s dismissal on the 54th delivery, exacerbating their troubles.

Despite the grim situation, Jamie Overton and Scott Currie stepped up in the final stages. Overton’s aggressive play and Currie’s steady support forged a crucial 36-run partnership, adding vital runs to the scoreboard. Their resilience under pressure ensured the Originals reached a total of 86/8 after their 100 deliveries, providing a semblance of hope for their bowling unit.

Welsh Fire’s commanding chase

In response, Welsh’s openers, Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Jonny Bairstow, got off to a flying start, quickly amassing 37 runs without loss after 20 deliverie??s. The Originals managed a breakthrough when Currie dismissed Kohler-Cadmore on the 21st delivery. Nevertheless, with only 39 runs needed from 75 deliveries, the Fire were in a commanding position.

Paul Walter then removed Bairstow on the 28th delivery, bringing captain Tom Abell to the crease. Abell, along with Joe Clarke, steadily guided the Fire closer to victory. The pair comfortably steered their team to?? an eight-wicket win, reaching the target with 43 balls to spare.

In a crucial encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are taking on the bottom-ranked Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 59 of the tournament. With playoff berths at stake?, bo??th teams are gearing up for a high-stakes clash.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s batting form a key factor

Leading the charge for CSK is captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, whose scintillating form with the bat has been instrumental in his team’s success this season. With 541 runs to his name in 11 games, Ruturaj trails only Virat Kohli in the list of leading run-getters. Today presents an opportunity for him to inch closer to Kohli’s tally of 634 runs and further solidify his position as one of the top batters of the tournament. In contrast, GT skipper Shubman Gill‘s underwhelming performance, especially compared to his stellar run last year, has contributed to the Titans languishing at the bottom of the points table.

Reason behind the absence of Wriddhiman Saha and Joshua Little

Ahead of the crucial encounter, both teams have made strategic changes to their playing XIs. Ruturaj, after finally breaking his toss jinx, opted to bowl first upon winning the toss. The inclusion of Rachin Ravindra in place of Richard Gleeson added depth to?? the CSK bowling lineup, although the skipper refrained from specif??ying the exact reason behind the change.

“We will bowl first. Looks a good wicket to be honest. It’s been a chasing ground, so we will look to chase. We had injuries in between, but happy now. Rachin Ravindra comes in for Gleeson,” said Ruturaj at the toss.

Meanwhile, the hosts Gujarat have also shuffled their lineup, making a couple of notable exclusions. Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha, who has been pivotal for the team, was sidelined due to a niggle, with Matthew Wade stepping in to fill the void. Ireland star Joshua Little also found himself out of the playing XI, making way for Kartik Tyagi as GT aimed to strike a balance in their team? combi??nation.

“Will be a good surface to bat on. Will score runs and try to restrict them. Wade comes in for Saha who has a niggle. In order to balance the team combination Kartik Tyagi comes in for Joshua Little,” explained Gill.

betvisa888 betJoshua Little – Cricket Times - betvisa cricket //betvisa68.com/2023/04/joshua-little-craig-young-return-as-ireland-name-squad-for-bangladesh-odis/ Sat, 22 Apr 2023 05:14:51 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=76067

Ireland have announced their full-strength squad for the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series against Bangladesh, starting May 9 in Chelmsford.

Following a prolonged injury layoff, Craig Young, who missed the 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup due to a recurring injury issue, is making his way back to the squad. The 32-year-old seamer has been selected in the 14-member team for the crucial ODI series.

Further, Joshua Little has also been included in the outfit, who is currently representing Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Little is now expected to miss a few games for the defending champions and may leave India following Titans’ match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 5.

It is worth mentioning that if Ireland manages to whitewash Bangladesh in the three-match leg, they will automatically qualify for the 50-over World Cup at South Africa’s expense. Ireland currently holds the 11th position in the standings with 68 points and has the potential to level with South Africa (98 points). However, to achieve this, the hosts must improve their net run rate and avoid any penalty points.

“The senior squad has a more familiar look, with much of the squad having been part of the set-up in Zimbabwe (January) and Bangladesh (March) ODI fixtures. We do, however, welcome Craig Young back into the senior side after his long journey of recovery from injury,” said Andrew White, National Men’s selector, in a statement.

“We are pleased to also have the services of Josh Little, who has been playing in the IPL over the last month. After a tough tour to Bangladesh last month, the lads will be keen to show their talent and skills in more familiar conditions â€?and with potential world cup qualification on the line, they will need no additional motivation to succeed,” he added.

Ireland’s squad for Bangladesh ODIs:

Andy Balbirnie (captain), Mark Adair, Curtis C??ampher, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Stephen Doheny, Fionn Hand, Graham Hume, Josh Little, Andy McBrine, Paul Stirling, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Craig Young.

Ireland pacer Joshua Little etched his name in record books as he picked up a sensational hat-trick in the T20 ??World Cup 2022 clash against New Zeal??and at Adelaide Oval on Friday.

Little is the second Irish bowler to take a hat trick after Curtis Campher. The left-armer accomplished the feat by dismissing Black Caps captain Kane Williamson, all-rounder James Neesham, and Mitchell Santner in the penultimate over of New Zealand’s innings.

Notably, Little is the second bowler after the UAE’s Karthik Meiyappan to register a hat-trick? in the ongoing multi-team tournament.

Here is how the hat-trick took place:

  • 18.2: Little to Williamson, a short delivery pulled by the batter but failed to get the desired distance and was caught by a fielder at deep backward square leg.
  • 18.3: Little to Neesham, a quick delivery which straightened up. Neesham tried to slog that away on the leg side but missed it and was dismissed leg before wicket.
  • 18.4: Little to Santner, another length ball that skids on and hits the pads. The batter did go for the review, but the replay showed three reds as Little recorded a brilliant hat trick.

Here is the video:

Williamson, who was the first victim of Little, went all guns blazing, scoring 61 off just 34 balls helping New Zealand post 185/6 in their allotted 20 overs. The Black Caps skipper smashed five fours and three sixes in his comeback knock. Apart from Williamson, Finn Allen and Daryl Mitchell chipped in w??ith valuable contributions of 32 and 31, respectively.

Little finished his quota of 4 overs with three wickets while conceding 22 runs. Spinner Gareth Delany also shined with the ball for the Irish side, taking a couple of wickets for 30 runs in 4 overs. Mark Adair picked up one scalp while giving away 39 runs.
