Facing a short-of-a-length delivery from Eathan Bosch in the last over, Dawson attempted a powerful shot, but the ball came off the outside part of his bat, flying wide of extra cover. Neesham, stationed in the infield, moved swiftly to his right. Anticipating the trajectory perfectly, he dove full stretch, extending his right arm. In an extraordinary display of athleticism and hand-eye coordination, he plucked the ball mid-air while diving forward, completing one of the most breathtaking catches of the match. Dawson, who was looking dangerous with a quickfire 25 off 11 balls, had to depart, thanks to Neesham’s heroics. This dismissal not only showcased Neesham’s exceptional fielding skills but also gave Bosch his third wicket, tilting the momentum firmly in favour of the bowling side.

Captain Aiden Markram leads Sunrisers Eastern Cape to victory over Pretoria Capitals

Sunrisers Eastern Cape defeated Pretoria Capitals by 52 runs in the 17th match of the SA20, held at St. George’s Park, Gqeberha, on January 22. Sunrisers captain Aiden Markram was the standout performer, earning the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten 68 off 55 balls.

Eastern Cape faced early trouble after losing three quick wickets within the powerplay, managing just 27 runs in the first six overs. Markram anchored the innings with a calm and composed approach, stitching together vital partnerships with Marco Jansen (24) and Dawson (25). Despite wickets tumbling around him, Markram ensured Eastern Cape reached a defendable total. Dawson’s late flourish lifted the team to 149/7, as Bosch (3/33) and Will Jacks (2/18) troubled the middle order.

The Capitals faltered early in their chase, losing four wickets for just 34 runs during the powerplay. Jansen was unplayable upfront, removing key batters, including Jacks (0) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (7). Though Marques Ackerman (25) and Keagan Lion-Cachet (28) attempted a brief recovery, Dawson and Jansen kept the pressure on. The Capitals’ lower order failed to offer resistance, and the team was bundled out for just 97 in 16.3 overs.

Pretoria Capitals (PC) faced Durban Super Giants (DSG) in match no. 28 of the ongoing SA20 2023 at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Sunday (February 5). DSG defeated PC by huge 151 runs in the contest.

PC won the toss and opted to bowl first, but the decision backfired on them completely as DSG put up a mammoth total of 254/4 in their 20 overs. Heinrich Klaasen slammed a blazing ton and was the highest run-getter for DSG in the match. Quinton de Kock (43) and Matthew Breetzke (46) also played a decent knock to power their team to a massive score.

Meanwhile, Migael Pretorius scalped two wickets for PC, with Joshua Little and James Neesham picking up one wicket each for the team. Neesham also pulled off a blinder inside the third-yard circle to send DSG’s Wiaan Mulder back to the pavilion.

On the last ball of the 15th over, Little produced an outside-the-off-stump delivery to Mulder, which the latter sliced towards the backward point, but Neesham there grabbed a sensational flying catch leaving the batter in disappointment. The 32-year-old all-rounder soon after the catch was seen celebrating the dismissal along with wicketkeeper Philip salt.

In reply to DSG’s gigantic total, PC failed miserably in the run chase and were bundled out for just 103 runs in 13.5 overs. Eathan Bosch (23) was the only PC batter to cross the 20-run mark. On the other hand, Junior Dala scalped three wickets to guide DSG to a massive 151 runs victory, with Mulder and Dwaine Pretorius also grabbing two wickets each.

Klaasen was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his exceptional 104-run knock. However, despite the loss, PC still sits on the top of the points tally, while DSG is at the fifth position.
