On February 7, 1999, Anil Kumble took 10-74 in the second innings of a Test match to become the second man in the ??history of the game to take all ten wickets in an innings, after England’s Jim Laker did it first against Australia in 1956.

In what was a two-match Test series against Pakistan, India lost the first one by the thinnest of margin, and they needed to win the last Test at the F?eroz Shah Kotla to level the series.? And what transpired in Delhi was incomprehensible sorcery from Kumble as Pakistani batsmen collapsed like a pack of cards.

Kumble reminisced that special day in his recent interaction with Zimbabwean commentator Pommie Mbangwa on Instagram. The leg-spinner stated that the pressure was on other bowlers to make sure they don’t get any wickets.

“After tea, I got 7, 8 and 9,” Kumble told Pommie Mbangwa in an Instagram chat. “And finished my over and Javagal Srinath had to bowl one, that was probably the toughest he had to bowl,” Kumble said.

The 49-years-old recalled how Javagal Srinath had to unlearn all his skills and just bowled wide outside off to ensure he doesn’t get the final wicket.

“He had to unlearn all his skills and bowl wide. But I didn’t ask him, believe me. I thought, ‘Let’s give Wasim a single.’ But I thought I had to get one that over, because it would have been embarrassing to ask one more. I was just destined. One down in a series, against Pakistan, just so special.”

The former Indian skipper further revealed that he was getting tired since he bowled non-stop between lunch and tea, but the thought of betterin??g his own record kept him going.

“It’s like it’s happened yesterday for me. It was special. It was pressure because Pakistan came to India after so long,” he said. “We had to win at Kotla to square the series. I think I am most effective when the wicket is two-paced and there is uneven bounce.”

“Till lunch, Pakistan had got off to a great start. I knew it was a matter of one wicket. After lunch, I changed ends. I got 1, then 2, and then it went on and on. I bowled non-stop from lunch to tea, but I was getting tired. I knew I had a great chance to better my previous best because I was six on six,” remarked Kumble.

The dressing room is a place overabundant with a plethora of emotions and actions exhibited by cricketers in the course of their journey. However, most of the incidents rarely make it to the public forum unless ??the players or staff involved ch??oose to speak up regarding the same.

Former Indian cricketer Hemang Badani had revealed an amusing incident from 2002 when Sachin Tendulkar decided to play a hilarious prank on Jagaval Srinat??h to lighten up his mood in what was the last one-day series for the Indian speedster.

Badani recalled that Srinath was unusually tensed before the match against England in Cuttack. Tendulkar sensed t??he uneasiness weighing down Srinath and decided to take this matter in his own hands.

“For some strange reason at Cuttack, he [Srinath] was extremely nervous, extremely wobbly, which he normally isn’t,” Badani said during an Instagram live session.

“Java is extremely vocal and very confident in his normal self, but for some strange reason, he was a little nervous that day.

“I wasn’t playing that game. Srinath, obviously being a 6-feet-2, 6-feet-3, had really long pants and Sachin, being about 5-feet-5, 5-feet-6 had shorter pants.”

“To just try and lighten the mood and to make sure that Srinath got back to normalcy, during practice before the game when the match hadn’t started yet, he[Sachin Tendulkar] asked me to switch trousers,” Badani revealed.

The 43-year old further said Srinath didn’t really notice the size of his trouser and fell to the prank set up by the batting legend.

“Srinath being Srinath doesn’t even care. He finishes his practise, gets back to the dressing room, puts his trousers on, gets on the field, bowls the first ball, and there are people laughing on the field. The Indian side was laughing on the field and little does he realise what has happened,” Badani remarked.

“Then someone points at his trousers and said, ‘Sri, look at your trousers, they’re so short.’ That’s when he realises that something is wrong. Actually, what has happened after that is, because of this banter and lighter moment, he gets back to being normal and bowls a brilliant spell.”

Although India lost that match by a paltry 16 runs, the plan worked well to ease up Srinath’s mood as the latter bowled remarkably well and finished the match with economical figures of 41-1.

betvisa888 liveJavagal Srinath – Cricket Times - betvisa casino //betvisa68.com/2020/06/javagal-srinath-reveals-what-forced-him-to-retire-at-the-age-of-33/ Mon, 22 Jun 2020 12:01:32 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=43327

At the age of 33, cricketers are in the vicinity of thei??r peak and to retire at the age, is unf?athomable. However, former Indian speedster, Javagal Srinath, had to make the difficult call to draw curtains to his successful period.

For many deca??des, the Indian bowling attack was more re??nowned for its quality spinners, rather than producing fast bowlers.

But it all changed with the debut o??f ?Karnataka pacer Srinath who could express pace, above 150+ kmph.

Earlier, Srinath expressed his dissatisfaction at being dropped during the 2002 England tour. He even denied Sourav Ganguly who insisted the pacer to come back in the side but opted to play County cricket. This time around, Srin?ath went on to reveal what caused him to retire at the age of 33.

“My hands and knees had gone down. At that time, Zaheer and Ashish were there. When I used to play, only one of them used to get a chance,” Srinath said Star Sports 1 Kannada’s new show ‘Diggajara Danthakathe’.

His international comeback was well ??staged with stellar performances in the subsequent New Zealand tour, followed by the 2003 ODI World ?Cup in South Africa.

Moreover, the heartbreaking Indian loss to Australia in the finals of the showpiece event in 2003, turned out to be the final game for Srinath’s career, citing knee issues.

“Sometimes on the pitch, if there are only two fast bowlers, it used to become difficult (to slot in another). And I found it difficult to bowl on India pitches. I was already 33 at that time. I could probably play for another year, but my knees made it difficult,” the cricketer turned match referee reckoned.

Srinath bowled alongside the likes of Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, ??Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble, in the star-studded Indian lineup.

“But that became difficult because of the changes. Later on, Zaheer and Ashish came and ramped up quickly. At that time, we were able to produce results. Spinners Anil (Kumble) and Harbhajan (Singh) formed a terrific pair together. Fast bowling used to miss that a lot,” Srinath concluded.

Indian cricket was never renowned for producing express fast bowlers as they were dependent on their spinners for providing br??eakthroughs for many decades.

However, it all changed when the likes of Javagal Srinath started coming throug??h the ranks. The Mysore-born held the record for bowling the fastest delivery by an Indian (154.5 kmph) for a long time.

Since making his debut in 1991, Srinath had been an indispensable part of t??he Indi?an bowling front, claiming 315 wickets in ODIs and 286 wickets in Tests.

Moreover, the Karnataka pacer recently rev??ealed that he was unhappy with the way the selectors handed him a short sabbatical during the 2002 England tour.

So much so, that he even turned down a request from the then Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, who wanted? him to feature in the lineup aga??inst England.

“I think before the World Cup, we had toured the West Indies Without my knowledge, the selectors told me I had to take a break. Generally, we used to talk and then I used to volunteer saying ‘look I need a break’. But this time they just said ‘we’re giving you a break’ and that didn’t go well with me. Obviously, I was a little upset. I didn’t want my career to be played in the hands of anybody,” Srinath told Sportskeeda.

Instead, Srinath decided to play co??unty crick?et in England, rather than accepting the offer from Dada.

“I missed the England tour. Of course, Ganguly called me and said ‘look, you better be part of the England tour’. I was upset and told him ‘No, I wouldn’t be.’ Now when I think of it, I should have played for India rather than playing County. Later when things cooled down, I decided to come back. I wanted to play the World Cup. Every World Cup is like a generation,” added the cricketer turned match-referee.

But, the seamer, in the twilight of his career, made his way back into the Indian team? during the 2002 New Zealand t?our, and then the subsequent 2003 World Cup.

In ?the coveted t??ournament, Srinath picked up 16 wickets in 11 matches and hung his boots after the finals.

His best performance came against Sri Lanka where he ended up with figures of 4/35 in?? 8 ov?ers.

“My strength in India was diminishing and there were hungry fast bowlers. So, I did not want to block their way. I was happy. I did not regret anything. It’s always good to walk out with your dignity,” concluded Srinath.

betvisa888 casinoJavagal Srinath – Cricket Times - betvisa casino //betvisa68.com/2020/04/shaun-pollock-picks-11-best-pacers-across-generations/ Sat, 18 Apr 2020 16:30:00 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=40447

Former South Africa all-rounder Shaun Pollock is regarded as one of the finest cricketers in his era. The Proteas veteran was destined to become a cricketer as this game was in his blood. Shaun’s father Peter was the captain of the rainbow nation back in the 1960s. Similarly, his uncle Graeme was one of the most talented left-handed batsmen of his time.

Shaun followed the footsteps of his elders and went on to become the legend of South African cricket. The Port Elizabeth-born played 108 T??ests for his nation, in which he scored 3781 runs with two hundreds and 16 half-centuries.

When it comes to bowling, then Shaun showed his real skills. The right-arm-fas?t-medium pacer went on to take 421 wickets for the Proteas in the red-ball format. Sixteen times Shaun took a five-wicket haul, while twenty-three times he took a four-wicket haul.

Recently, he featured in the SkySports podcast hosted by Rob Key alongside legendary West Indian Michael Holding an??d veteran England pacer Stuart Broad, where they discussed greatest-ever seamers.

Shaun ??picked the top quality bowlers that he has seen during his cricket life. He started by naming the all-time legendary West I??ndian Malcolm Marshall and revealed how he changed his bowling.

“Marshall was the next level, and I was lucky enough to meet him early in my career as it made me think about fast bowling in a completely different way.”

Shaun then went with ??possibly the four greatest fast bowlers that the 90s ever saw. He chose the pair of ??Wasim Akram-Waqar Younis and Curtly Ambrose-Courtney Walsh.

“In my era, you had great combinations like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis for Pakistan and Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh for West Indies.”

Shaun picked Australia’s Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee as the greatest seamers and also named India’s Javagal Srinath in his favourite list. He added that Srinath didn’t get the credit he deserved.

The former South African then went wit??h the current genius English bowling pair of James Anderson and ?Stuart Broad.

“Australia had Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee, and I thought India’s Javagal Srinath didn’t get the credit he deserved. You now have James Anderson and Stuart Broad in this era.”

In the end, Shaun picked a bowler from his own nation. He went for the ‘fast and furious’ speedster Dale Steyn. Shaun hailed Steyn as the greatest seamer and said his ability to swing with such pace was unbelievable.

“But since I’ve stopped playing, l cannot have enough respect for Steyn. His ability to shape the ball upfront at high speed and then come back later and reverse it.

“He cranked it up on flat wickets and had such good action and variations. He is something special, and his stats back it up.”
