Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar celebrated his 55th birthday on Sunday (July 12) at his local resi??dence in Mumbai. Greetings and wishes from different parts of the cricketing world kept pouring in for Manjrekar on social media.

Man??jrekar made his debut fo??r India in 1987. For a career spanning over a decade, he donned Indian jersey in 37 Tests, and 74 ODIs. However, he has a far more successful and influential stint as a commentator.

As a batsman, Manjrekar has always bee?n considered as a talented, technically adept batsman who failed t??o prove his mettle in the international arena.

As the Karnataka-born batsman turned a year older, Lord’s Cricket Ground reshared an insightful video on their YouTube account where Manjrekar picked his all-time XI.

Manjrekar’s team looks absolutely lethal on the paper as it has a perfect blend of fierceness and flamboyance.

Manjrekar picked his compatriot Sunil Gavaskar and Kumar Sangakkara as th??e opening pair of his team, maintaining the left-right combination. He further stated that Gavaskar was the prime reason he started playi??ng cricket in his younger days.

The cricketer-?turned commentator chose the explosive Caribbean batsman Vivian Richards for No. 3 position. Following Richards in the pecking order is Sachin Tendulkar at No. 4 and Brian Lara at No. 5, respectively.

Former Au?stralian captain Steve Waugh sits at No??. 6 position. Waugh led Australia to the World Cup triumph in 1999.

Interestingly, Manjrekar picked the legendary Pakistani cricketer ?Imran Khan as the captain of his team ahead of anyone else.

Malcolm Marshall, Wasim Akram and Sir Richard Hadlee lead the fast-bowling department while Shane Warne is the lone spinner in Manjrekar’s all-time XI.

Here’s Sanjay Manjrekar all-time XI:

Sunil Gavaskar, Kuma?r Sangakkara (wk), Sir Viv Richards, Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Steve Waugh, Imran Khan (c), Malcolm Mars??hall, Wasim Akram, Sir Richard Hadlee, Shane Warne.

Former Pakistan cricketer turned commentator, Ramiz Raja recently recalled the ti??me when his captain Imran Khan taunte??d about him dropping a catch off his bowling. While fielding, out of the blue, Imran pointed out about the catch-drop of Gordon Greenidge.

Greenidge used to open the batting for the star-studded West Indies team. Raja, the famous cric?ket analyst and broadcaster, lately engaged in a chat with his Indian counterpa??rt, Sanjay Manjrekar.

“He (Imran) suddenly looked over to the backward square leg region and said, ‘Remember that catch from Gordon Greenidge you dropped off my bowling?” Raja told Manjrekar during the chat.

“But Imran, Greenidge went out for 16 in that match,” Ramiz said, to which Imran replied ‘No, but the partnership was worth 38’,” Raja continued.” He still remembers everything.”

Also, Imran often nagged about Raja’s shortcomings on the field while asking about him not diving on the field. “Yaar Rambo, tum dive kyun nahi maarte ho (why don’t you dive)?” recalled Raja.

Both Raja and Manjrekar reminisced about the golden period when India an?d Pakistan played hard-fought cricket matches.

India always possessed a ch?ampion batting lineup while Pakistan boasted one of the greatest bowling lineups, making Indo-Pak duels riveting.

Pakistan troubled several batting units with the likes of Imran, Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, and Abdul Qadir. The Indian team, on the other h?and, blessed wit?h genius batsmen, namely Sunil Gavaskar, Kris Srikkanth, Dilip Vengasarkar and many others.

“Our generation was in awe of Indian batting. India-Pakistan contests used to be so friendly off the field. We spoke the same language. We had freedom of culture whenever we played, so we never sledged,” Raja concluded.

However, India-Pakistan contests these days aren’t evenly matched, with India getting the better Pakistan in multilateral events. The two countries do not engage in bilateral series due to diplomatic issues.

India and Pakistan share one of the greatest rivalries on the cricket field. The encounters between the two cricketing giants live up to the billing every time with billions of fans around? the world cheering for their favourite sides.

Over the years, India and Pakistan have prod??uced some of the most thrilling contests on the 22 yards. The intense rivalry started in 1952 when the Pakista??n cricket team first toured India for a Test series and the two sides have since then been a part of numerous ODI, Test and T20I series. While India have had the upper edge over Pakistan in the World Cups, Pakistan have managed to outclass India on many occasions.

Overall, India and Pakistan have played 132 ODIs in which the Men in Green have won 73 while the Men in Blue registering win 54 times. However, in World Cups, Pakistan have never managed to get the better of India, who have won on all eleven occasions so far (7 times in ODI World Cups and four times in T20 World Cups). In ?Tests, India and Pakistan have met 59 times with Pakistan winning 12 games while India managing victory ??on just nine occasions.

Recalling his playing days recently, former captain and current Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, made a controversial statement. Khan said he used to feel sorry for Indian team during his playing days as Pakistan beat them?? quite often. He also said Pakistan regarded West Indies and not India as their rivals when he was the captain of the side.

“I used to feel sorry for the Indian team because we beat them so often. They were under a lot of pressure. When I used to go to toss with their captain, I’d look at his face & he would be looking scared. Our rivals in those days weren’t India, West Indies were our rivals as they were a fantastic side and I don’t think I have seen a better team than that,” said Imran Khan on a local TV channel.

Meanwhile, the last match played between India and P??akistan was in 2019 World Cup where the former ousted the latter. Rohit Sharma was the star of the game as he smashed 140 runs off just 113 deliveries. After amassing 336 runs on the board, India restricted Pakistan to 212/6 and won the match by 89 runs (DLS me??thod).

The two-arch rivals are slated to meet in the Asia Cup later this year. However, considering the current situation across the world due to coronavirus pandemic, the possibility of the t??ournament to commence looks slim. Fans will have to wait a little long?er perhaps to witness another exciting clash between the two neighbouring countries.

Despe?rate times need desperate measures as they say. In the absence of sporting action currently, t??he latest developments in the world of cricket are few and far between each other.

As a result, social media handles all over the globe are using innovative str??ategies to engage with their followers, who themselves are under house arrest due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Fox Sports of Australia diligently released the best XI of players, who never featured in the shortest format of the game on Monday. ‘We’ve picked an all-time T20 XI made up exclusively of players who never played the format,’ captioned their post.

Starting in the team are formidable opening p??airs of former greats, Mark Waugh and Sir Vivian Richards. Mark Waugh is known for his graceful strokes at the opening slot and is one of the best cover-drivers of the ball ever produced.

Viv Richards during his days revolutionized the art of batting by? striking the ball at the rates above 80, ??a feat unheard of during the yesteryears.

The man with a Test average of almost 100, Australian Hall of Famer Don Bradman, bats at ??number three in the star-studded team. Following Bradman, at number four, is Wind??ies great Garfield Sobers.

The golden quartet of all-rounders of the by-gone era, featuring Kapil Dev, Ian Botham, Richard Hadlee, and Imran ?Khan, occupy the four slots in the lower-middle order.

Interestingly, only one spinner in maestro Abdul Qadir makes it to the bes?t T20 lineup who never played the format.

Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Rod Marsh takes up the wicketkeeping duties, while Joel Garner is the only specialist seamer in the lineup. The 1992 World Cup winner, Imran Khan, was chosen as captain of the al?l-star side.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the cricket body’s office bearers, PCA treasurer Ajay Tyagi told PTI.
