Amir, in a statement released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), expressed immense pride and gratitude for representing Pakistan on the global stage. “It has been a great honour to play for Pakistan across all three formats. The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 has been a rollercoaster of emotions, with thrilling matches and unexpected twists. One such incident unfolded during the 20th match between Trinbago Knight Riders and Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, where a controve??rsial decision led to a drama??tic scene on the field.

The controversial LBW decision incident

The match was evenly poised when Imad Wasim, the talented all-rounder from Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, was trapped LBW by Sunil Narine. The on-field umpire initially ruled in favour of Wasim, but the Trinbago Knight Riders immediately challenged the dec?ision. Upon review, the third umpire overturned the on-field decision, and Wasim was given out. However, the Pakistani star was far from convinced.

Imad Wasim’s refusal to walk off

Annoyed by the decision, Wasim refused to accept the umpire’s verdict. He engaged in a heated discussion with the umpires, expressing his belief that he had not been out. The situation escalated as Wasim became increasingly agitated, even walking off the field in protest. His teammates and support staff were visibly upset by the decision as well.

A rare occurrence: Wasim’s recall

The umpires, after reviewing the replays and witnessing the Falcons’ team’s reaction, made a surprising decision. They called Pakistani all-rounder back to the crease, allowing him to continue batting despite having already walked off the field. This was a highly unusual occurrence, as batters are typically not allowed to return to the crease after leaving the field.

Kieron Pollard’s disappointment over the umpire’s decision

The Trinbago Knight Riders were understandably unhappy with the umpires’ decision. Kieron Pollard, the team’s captain, engaged in an animated discussion with the officials, expressing his frustration and disbelief. The on-field chaos continued as both teams argued their case, creating a tense atmosphere.

Wasim makes the most of his second chance

Despite the controversy, Wasim made the most of his unexpected second chance. He played a crucial role in Antigua & Barbuda Falcons’ victory, helping his team upset the formidable Trinbago Knight Riders by six-wickets and an over to spare. Wasim’s innings was a testament to his resilience and determination, as he overcame the initial disappointment to contribute significantly to his team’s success.

The controversial decision involving the all-rounde?r added another layer of drama to the already exciting CPL 2024. It was a rare and unforgettable moment in cricket history, showcasing the passion and ??intensity of the game. While the decision may have been debated by fans and experts alike, it undoubtedly made for a compelling spectacle and will be remembered as one of the defining moments of the tournament.

Imad Wasim plucks a stunner

The incident occurred in the 8th over of the Freedom’s innings, with Mukhtar looking to attack the bowling of Nandre Burger. Pakistan’s disappointing exit from the group stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 has sent shockwaves through the cricketing world. After reaching the finals in? the 2022 ed?ition, this early dismissal marks a significant setback for the team.

Seasoned all-rounder Imad Wasim, who? came out of retirement for the global showpiece event, minced no words in expressing his disappointment. Imad, known for his aggressive batting and handy sp??in bowling, reckoned this is a rock bottom moment for Pakistan cricket in recent times.

A call for change

In a scathing assessment, Imad called for drastic changes within the team. He feels Pakistan have fallen behind other teams in terms of their approach to the game. Whether it’s batting, bowling, or fielding, a significant improvement is needed across the board.

Imad emphasized the importance of a mindset shift. He believed that the current mentality isn’t conducive to winning in the high-pressure environment of T20 cricket. A more aggressive and adaptable approach is necessary to compete with the best.

“In my opinion, the reason for our defeat [In the World Cup] was our mindset. We need to take the fear of failure out of our minds and try something new. It is all about mindset, other teams have also changed their thinking, we are behind them because we didn’t change our way of thinking. It’s not my domain but I think there need to be changes. There should be a drastic change so that we can move forward and fight with world cricket in the way that cricket is played now,”? said Imad in a press conference ahead of their last league match against Ir?eland.

Takes responsibility of the defeat against India

Imad explained that the strategy against India was to extend the match as the New York pitch was challengi?ng for batting. He acknowledged that he did not effectively implement this strategy.

“Our game plan [against India] was to take the chase deep. The wicket was tough to bat on. I let the team down because usually when I go in these situations, I stay very calm and finish the job. Finishing this chase was my job which I couldn’t do, and I am very hurt by that. But this is life, sometimes you make mistakes. I believe my planning was right but the execution wasn’t good,” added Imad.

Former Pakistan cricketer Saleem Malik has accused all-rounder Imad Wasim of deliberately wasting deliveries during Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2024 match against India in New York on Sunday (June 9). Malik’s claims came after Pakistan suffered a narrow six-run defeat despite dominating for much of the game.

Imad, who recently came out of retirement to join the World Cup squad, batted at No. 5 following Fakhar Zaman‘s dismissal. He scored 15 runs off 23 balls out of which 12 were dot balls. He could only scored one boundary during Pakistan’s chase of 120 runs.

Saleem Malik’s controversial remarks on Imad Wasim

Malik, speaking on Monday, accused Wasim of intentionally playing a sluggish knock to protect ?his batting average rather than taking risks to accelerate the scoring rate.

“He [Imad Wasim] made sure he doesn’t get out and keep bettering his batting average. If I’m a batter and I’m not getting runs, then I would try taking a risk, no matter if I get out. But he kept on eating up deliveries and then changed ends with singles,” Malik was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

“Imad Wasim didn’t get to play much cricket since the last PSL. Shadab Khan, who scored 40-odd against the USA in the last game, shouldn’t have been promoted up the order. Sorry, but I would like to question why he [Imad Wasim] was promoted up the order, given that he hadn’t got enough chances before [the World Cup]. The batter should at least have tried something instead of playing dot balls,” Malik concluded.

Adam Gilchrist’s response

Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist reacted to Malik’s comments with sarcasm, noting the irony of Malik’s accusations given his own controversial past. Malik, a former Pakistan cricketer who played in 100 Test matches and was a member of the 1992 World Cup-winning team, received a lifetime ban in 2000 due to match-fixing allegations.

“A bunch of ex-Pakistan cricketers haven’t missed their teams, at all. I mean Saleem Malik, of all people… I’m just reading the comments and paraphrasing, and I haven’t heard him say, but had I heard him, it wouldn’t have been to my benefit because it was in Urdu. He accused Imad (Wasim) of chewing up deliveries on purpose to make it a bit more interesting. Now I don’t know if there are other accusations which come with that,” Gilchrist said with a smile of sarcasm..

//twitter.com/nas?waaristan/status/18004928498611??90122

Rashid Latif’s reaction

Rashid Latif, another former Pakistan cricketer, expressed his disgust over Malik’s comments. Sharing Gilchrist’s video on X (formerly Twitter), Latif criticized Malik for making such controversial statements, calling ex Pakistan cricketers an international embarrassment.

“Adam Gilchrist finding it ironic that a convicted fixer like Saleem Malik is accusing Imad Wasim of “underperforming deliberatelyâ€?against India. Pakistani ex-cricketers are international embarrassment,” Latif wrote.

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2024 journey

Pakistan’s journey in the ongoing T20 World Cup has been disappointing so far. They lost their first game in a surprising manner against co-hosts United States of America (USA) and followed it up with a narrow defeat to arch-rivals India in a low-scoring encounter. However, they finally tasted victory by defeating Canada. Pakistan will face Ireland in their last gro??up stage match in Florida and will have to depend on the results of other teams in their group to qualify for the Sup?er 8 stage.

Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim demonstrated his exceptional fielding skills with a sharp and clinical direct hit to dismiss Nicholas Kirton during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 clash against Canada. The batter was caught well short of his crease, highlighting a pivotal moment in the match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday (June 11). Imad’s quick reflexes and precision in the field were crucial in shifting the momentum in Pakistan’s favour.

Pakistan asserts control

Pakistan gradually asserted control over the contest following a bright start by Canada. Despite an initial push, Canada finished the powerplay at 30/2, with runs needed quickly to build a competitive total. The Canadian side looked to capitalize on this start, but Pakistan’s fielding and bowling remained tight. Following early breakthroughs by Mohammad Amir and Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan continued to maintain their grip ?on the game.

Imad Wasim’s brilliant run-out

Aaron Johnson began the middle-overs phase on a positive note, as Haris Rauf conceded 13 runs off his first five deliveries, putting Pakistan under some pressure. On the last ball, Johnson stroked the ball towards cover, initiating a quick single. What followed was utter confusion, as Kirton was stranded midway. Attempting to scramble back to the crease at the bowler’s end, Kirton found himself well short, thanks to Imad’s direct hit. With only a couple of stumps to aim at, Imad’s precise throw hit the bull’s eye, resulting in a critical run-out that further dented Canada’s innings.

Here’s the video:

Canada’s resilience and Pakistan’s comeback

Despite the setback of losing Kirton, who had previously scored a match-winning 49 against Ireland, Canada showed resilience. Johnson’s half-century pushed Pakistan’s bowlers on the backfoot on a tricky New York pitch. Nonetheless, Pakistan made a strong comeback, eventually dismissing Canada for 104 runs in their allotted 20 overs

Pakistan’s steady chase

In reply, Pakistan’s chase began with the early fall of opener Saim Ayub. However, the experienced duo of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan stabilized the innings, adding a crucial 63-run partnership for the second wicket. After Babar’s dismissal, Fakhar Zaman fell cheaply, but Rizwan’s composed run-a-ball 53 guided Pakistan home in this must-win match, ensuring they stayed alive in the tournament.

Pakistan cricket fans rejoice as experienced all-rounder Imad Wasim and fiery fast bowler Mohammad Amir have been recalled to the national T20I squad for the New Zealand series. Both players recently reversed the?ir international retirement decisions, paving the way for their dramatic comebacks.

A mixture of experience and youth in Pakistan’s squad

Wasim, a seasoned campaigner with 66 T20I appearances under his belt, boasts an impressive bowling record of 65 wickets at a miserly economy rate of 6.26. He? also contributes valuable runs lo?wer down the order, with a career strike rate of 131.7. His last outing in the green jersey came a year ago against New Zealand in Rawalpindi.

Amir, known for hi?s devasta??ting pace, brings a wealth of experience from his 50 T20I matches. He has rattled opposition batters with 59 wickets at a decent economy rate of 7.02. However, his previous T20I appearance came back in August 2020 against England at Old Trafford.

The selection panel further bolstered the squad with two exciting prospects. Uncapped middle-order batsman Muhammad Irfan Khan and flamboyant opener Usman Khan earned their maiden call-ups based on their stellar performances in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL). Their inclusion signifies the team’s focus on grooming young talent.

Abrar Ahmed, the young wrist-spinner who was named in the earlier T20I series against New Zealand but had to withdraw due to fitness concerns, gets another chance to impress. He’ll be the second wrist-spinning option alongside Usama Mir in the squad.
