In 2024, several cricketers have showcased exceptional performances, marking themselves as the future stars of the sport. As each nation continues to nurture its talent pool, new players are emerging, ready to take their game to the next level. Now, cricket analyst Harsha Bhogle, speaking on his Youtube channel, has curated a list of players from each country whom he be??lieves w??ill perform exceptionally in 2025.

From exciting new talents to promising all-rounders, these players are expected to make significant strides in the cricketing world. Bhogle’s picks include individuals who have already impressed with their skills and are ready to dominate the international stage. Here’s a breakdown of the players he’s keeping an eye on for the upcoming year.

Harsha Bhogle’s top picks from each cricketing nation to watch in 2025

1. Afghanistan’s emerging talents

Bhogle is quite excited about Afghanistan’s future, especially the promising left-handed top-order batter, Sediqullah Atal, whose solid technique and batting prowess have impressed Bhogle. He also emphasizes Allah Ghazanfar, a young spinner, noting that Afghanistan’s consistent product?ion of spinners is a testament to their growing cricketing depth. Ghazanfar, according to Bhogle, could make waves, particularly in the IPL, as he continues to develop.

“Afghanistan’s emerging talent, Sediqullah Atal, has caught my eye. At 23, he’s already making waves as a left-handed top-order batter. His ability to score runs consistently and the way he plays with maturity for his age make me believe that he will be one to watch closely in 2025. I’m excited to see how he develops in the coming months. Allah Ghazanfar, the new spinner from Afghanistan, is someone I’m really excited about. Afghanistan has a rich history of producing top-class spinners, and Ghazanfar seems to fit right into that mold. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing him perform in the IPL, where the level of competition will give him the platform to showcase his skills and develop further,” Bhogle said.

2. Bangladesh’s future stars

Bangladesh’s promising young fast bowlers, Tanzim Hassan and Nahid Rana, have been garnering attention. Bhogle is particularly excited about Nahid, who has shown remarkable pace and wicket-taking abilities in domestic competitions. Along with Hassan Mahmud, a versatile bowler with a knack for both the short and long formats, these players represent the new wave of pace and spin for Bangladesh. Bhogle sees these players as pivotal for Bangladesh’s future, especially in conditions favorable to fast bowlers.

“Nahid is a fast bowler with something very few possess: genuine pace. I’m particularly keen to see how Bangladesh develops him in the coming years. His pace is a rare commodity, and if he can harness it effectively, he could be a real asset for the team. I’m excited to follow his progress closely. Hassan Mahmud is a bowler I really enjoy watching. He’s versatile, uses conditions to his advantage, and is incredibly clever in his approach. He’s got the outswinger, can be nippy when required, and strikes me as a bowler who thinks through every delivery. I’m excited to see how he continues to develop and how his cleverness will play a key role for Bangladesh in 2025,” Bhogle stated.

3. Sri Lanka’s bright future

Sri Lanka‘s emerging talents have caught Bhogle’s attention, with players like Pathum Nissanka and Kamindu Mendis standing out. Bhogle has high hopes for Mendes, who has been impressive recently, and he believes that Sri Lanka can nurture these players to fulfill their potential. Bhogle also mentions Jayasuriya, a new spinner, as a player to watch, hoping that Sri Lanka doesn’t let their talents stagnate.

“Let’s go south then, to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has thrown up quite a few players—Matheesha Pathirana, Asitha Fernando, and so many others. I don’t know if I can include Pathum Nissanka in that list because he’s been around, but I think he’s a mighty talent. And then there’s Kamindu Mendes. I mean, you just have to. You cannot have a list without Kamindu Mendes and the kind of numbers he’s thrown up this year, the kind of performances he’s delivered this year. Pathum Nissanka, Kamindu Mendes, and I just hope—I really do hope—that Sri Lanka develops these two, because over the last few years, there are so many players I’ve looked at with excitement, and I just haven’t seen them after that. There’s another spin-house coming through, remember Jayasuriya. He plays one form of the game I love watching well, and I think he can just be that allrounder. But again, as I said with Sri Lanka, I’d love to see these players ascend to the next level. Sometimes, the talent stagnates there. So, come on, Sri Lanka! I’d love to see all these players, but the two that I’ve picked are Nissanka and Kamindu Mendes,” Bhogle examined.

4. Pakistan’s promising duo

Bhogle is excited about Pakistan’s Saim Ayub, a player who has shown significant promise despite being overshadowed by established stars like Rizwan and Babar. Bhogle compares Ayub to Fakhar Zaman and hopes he will rise to the occasion. Salman Agha, an all-rounder, is also one of Bhogle’s picks, as he has shown impressive skills both with the bat and ball. Sufiyan Muqeem, another emerging talent, is also on Bhogle’s radar.

“Now, to our west, Pakistan. Two players stand out. Saim Ayub, for a long time, wouldn’t get picked because Pakistan had Rizwan and Babar at the top of the order. The last time a player excited me like that was Fakhar Zaman, and I know there’s a bit of turmoil going on around him as well. So, Ayub is the person I’m looking forward to from there. I know Pakistan likes Saud Shakil a lot, but when I saw another young player at the end of last year here in Australia, where I am at the moment, I just thought, “He can bowl and he definitely can bat more—more batter than bowler.” He’s some player, and I’m very happy to see that it started being reflected in the numbers. That’s Salman Agha. I think you’re going to see a lot more of Salman AA. I only hope that he doesn’t fade away like a couple of gifted spin-bowling all-rounders have in recent times—not going to name names just now, but these two really excite me. There’s also an exciting player coming through, Sufiyan Muqeem. I don’t know how far he’s going to go. I’ll be honest, I’ve not seen enough of him, but I just look at the scorecard and his name pops up every time. So that’s another name to look forward to in Pakistan,” Bhogle discussed.

5. Australia’s emerging players

Australia’s deep talent pool continues to impress, but Bhogle is unsure which player will make a significant impact in the coming year. Bhogle mentions fast bowlers like Lance Morris, Spencer Johnson and Xavier Bartlett, but questions whether they will break out. In batting, Sam Konstas and Josh Inglis are names Bhogle is watching closely??, though he’s yet to find a standout player who excites him as much as some of the current stars.

“Let’s move further—Australia. Normally, you think of Australia, and you think 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. But I’m thinking, “Who’s the young fast bowler that’s catching everyone’s eye? Is it going to be Lance Morris? Is it going to be Spencer Johnson? Is it going to be Xavier Bartlett?” Are they setting the world on fire? Who’s the next young batter coming through? Maybe Sam Konstas, who’s just been picked to play the Boxing Day test as I record this. But I ask my friends in Australia, “Who’s the next exciting young talent coming through?” Josh Inglis, maybe? So, that’s one player to watch for. What can you imagine? Here’s a team that’s doing well, and I can’t find someone to excite me next year from Australia. So, let’s move on,” Bhogle considered.

6. England’s standout talents

In England, Bhogle is most excited about Harry Brook, who he describes as having a rare skill set. Along with Brook, Phil Salt, who may not feature in Tests but shows great promise in limited-overs formats, is another name Bhogle is eager to see. Other players like Shoaib Bashir, Jamie Smith and Matthew Potts have potenti?al, but Bhogle’s focus remains on Brook and Salt.

“England threw up many fine young players this year—Shoaib Basher, Jamie Smith. I like Matthew Potts, actually. I’ve talked to people about him. Matthew Potts, I think, is a little down the pecking order. These three or four players did very well, but the ones that I find very exciting are Harry Brook, of course. I think he’s cut from a different cloth. And I’m going for someone who’s not going to play Test match cricket by the look of it, but gee, he’s some player. So, the two that I picked from England as the players I want to watch out for are Harry Brook and Phil Salt. As I said, I’d love to watch Smith and Atkinson and Shoaib Basheer, but these are the two that I just look at and say, “Oh!” As I said right at the top, something about them,” Bhogle examined.

7. New Zealand’s future stars

Bhogle has been impressed with Rachin Ravindra’s potential and is keen to see him channel his abilities in the right direction. Will O’Rourke, who has impressed Bhogle with his versatility as a bowler, is another player to watch. While Kyle Jamieson remains a standout, Bhogle notes the inj?ury concerns that tall fast bowlers face. Ravindra and O’Rourke are the two emerging players Bhogle is most excited about.

“New Zealand—what a player Rachin Ravindra is going to be for them. Now it’s just a question of controlling the flow, controlling all that he can do, channelizing it, not letting the river overflow its banks. So I like Rachin Ravindra, and I was mighty impressed with Will O’Rourke. I feel the same way about Kyle Jamieson, I must hasten to add, but tall, big fast bowlers are injury-prone. But Will O’Rourke, not just a fast bowler, comes and bangs it in short. He can bowl full. He can bowl quick as well. So, the two names I’ve picked from New Zealand are Rachin Ravindra and Will O’Rourke,” Bhogle talked out.

8. West Indiesfuture

Bhogle is most excited about Jayden Seales, praising his beautiful action and stunning bowling. Bhogle believes Seales has the potential to make a big impact and hopes the West Indies provide him with the right support. Other players like Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers and Shamarh Joseph are mentioned, though Bh??ogle feels the excitement around them is y??et to reach full potential.

“Then, the West Indies. I look at the West Indies and I think, “Where’s the next big fast bowler coming from? Where’s the big new attacking bat going to come from? Who’s the hard-hitting allrounder?” There are so many names in West Indies; they just come and go. You say, “Hang on, where were they?” Remember Kyle Mayers and Nkrumah Bonner? That great series in Bangladesh—I see Keacy Karti coming up, but I don’t know if there’s enough of them to get excited and look forward to with glee. Shamarh Joseph—really look forward to seeing what he has to offer. But if I had to pick one name from the West Indies, it’s Jayden Seales. You see his action—it’s beautiful. He’s a stunning bowler, and I just hope they look after him. Again, Alzarri Joseph was another bowler, but I just think Jayden Seales is the name to watch out for from the West Indies,” Bhogle considered.

9. South Africa’s rising stars

Bhogle is particularly excited about Kwena Maphaka, a left-arm player who reminds him of Kagiso Rabada’s early days. Bhogle also admires Tristan Stubbs for his versat??ility, as he can keep wickets, bat, and bowl. Stubbsall-round abilities make him a standout, and Bhogle sees him as a breakout star from South Africa in 2??025.

“Three names for me from South Africa. I haven’t got Marco Jansen because we saw him a little earlier. I look at where he scores his runs, when he scores them. Players like Kyle Verreynne or Ryan Rickleton, another player who’s scoring up there, but I looked at two players and thought: Kwena Maphaka came out of Under-19 cricket, and here’s a kid, left-arm, and that left-arm reminds me so much of Rabada when Rabada was starting out, so a bit of that. But I think the name to watch from South Africa is Tristan Stubbs. It’s an exciting player. He can bat, he can bowl, he can keep wickets. He is such a versatile player. And so that’s the name I’m looking out for—Tristan Stubbs. He’s going to break out,” Bhogle reviewed.

10. India’s emerging left-handed trio

Bhogle expresses admiration for India’s deep talent pool, particularly the new left-handed trio of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma. India’s future in international cricket looks bright, with many players possessing the potential to excel across all formats. Bhogle envisions players like Jaiswal becoming cornerstone figures in India’s batting lineup, while Sharma’s T20 prowess could make him a valuable asset in the shortest format. He also sees Varma developing into a multi-format star for India.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal… he’s going to do much more, but Yashasvi Jaiswal, across formats, I’m talking about. Abhishek Sharma—I don’t know if he wants to play too much red-ball cricket, but what he’s done in T20 cricket… he has finished the year at a ridiculous strike rate of 189 or 190, or thereabouts. He’s (Tilak) starting to look like the complete package now… he’s going to become a proper multi-format player. I just hope he continues to be a good fielder, becomes even better, and starts bowling a little bit more too,” Bhogle presumed.

Bhogle’s top 5 overall picks for 2025

Lookin?g ahead to 2025, Bhogle is particularly excited about Jaiswal, Brook, Ravindra, Stubbs and Mendis. These players have all shown remarkable promise in the recent past and are expected to be crucial in their respective teams. Jaiswal’s maturity, Brook’s flair, Ravindra’s balance, Stubbsversatility, and Mendesall-around abilities are the qualities Bhogle looks for as the next wave of cricketing stars.

“I’m excited for these players… they’ve had strong years in 2024, but I see great potential for their growth in 2025,” Bhogle concluded.

In the wake of the ICC T20I World Cup’s embellishments in Indian cricket, experts in the cricket world sought to wait for some nerdy trivia and publishing. After the ICC announced their team of the tournament, well-admired cricket analyst and commentator Harsha Bhogle came up with his strong and unbeatable XI.

The team with five Indian players clearly shows the dominance of the Indian cricket team. Bhogle’s XI consists of some big names that are placed in accordance with the conditions and their performances when one looks at the competition in retrospect.

Beginning with a bang

The indomitable side ought to start with some zeal and statement; who better than the Indo-Afghan pairing of blasting openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and the undisputed captain of this team, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. The two shone in the tournamen??t with some really great knocks, ?paving the way for their great run in the tournament.

Stormy middle order

Well, the batting order of this team is too efficient, which will end the opponent team bowlers statistics on a really extortionate side, with Nicholas Pooran as the wicketkeeper batter at number 3, former number 1 ranked T20I batter Surya Kumar Yadav at number 4, and strong spinned finishers like David Miller, Marcus Stoinis, and Hardik Pandya trickling do?wn to the best T20 player of the recent decade, Rashid Khan.

All-rounders roundabout

With all the specialists in the team, Harsha’s best 11 also include players who are specialists to perform at all the specifications on the field, with Stoinis and Pandya being the fast-bowling all-rounders. and Rashid Khan as the spin maestro, the trio can turn the tide of the game from any situation of the game to their team’s favour, performing in all three tasks of the sport.

Dominating bowling trio

The bowling line-up of the team isn’t different from the firepower levels of the other departments, as the names of the fierce Indian pacersâ€?duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh make the list more difficult to face. Last but not least, the list caters to the breakthrough specialist in the form of a Chinaman bowler, Harsha named Kuldeep Yadav as one of the two spinners with Rashid; both being wrist spinners in the team, the middle overs of an innings will more often be ??collapse-prone.

In an unexpected move, Kane Williamson has decided to relinquish his captaincy of New Zealand‘s white-ball cricket teams and forego his central contract following the team’s premature exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Kane Williamson steps down: A shift in New Zealand cricket leadership

New Zealand’s campaign in the tournament came to an abrupt end after consecutive defeats against Afghanistan and West Indies, despite a final group-stage victory over Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wil??liamson, who has been a stalwart for the Blackcaps across all formats with 358 appearances, expressed his decision to step away from leadership responsibilities to expl?ore opportunities outside New Zealand.

He emphasized the limited international cricket opportunities during the local summer as a contributing factor. Despite resigning as captain, Williamson affirmed hi??s commitment to continue representing ??Blackcaps as a player.

Harsha Bhogle’s perspective

Following Kane Williamson’s decision to decline his central contract, Harsha Bhogle, a prominent cricket commentator at the T20 World Cup, took to social media to?? discuss the broader implications.

Bhogle highlighted how Williamson’s choice underscores the growing influence of franchise-based T20 leagues on international cricket. He pointed out that experienced players like Williamson occasionally prioritize participation in these lucrative leagues over national team commitments.

“The greatest effect of franchise based leagues on a national team is being felt in New Zealand where Kane Williamson has turned down a central contract because he will be unavailable for portions of the NZ summer. That is a major event and further evidence that NZ will have to navigate through this reality in the near future. With Boult coming to the end, Southee almost there and Ferguson contemplating not having a central contract, they will need to make the most of their small pool to stay competitive in bilateral cricket,” Bhogle wrote.

NZC’s CEO Scott Weenink response

Responding to Williamson’s announcement, NZC expressed understanding and support for the veteran cricketer’s decision. CEO Scott Weenink acknowledged Williamson’s immense contributions to New Zealand cricket and emphasized that he deserves the opportunity to take a break and focus on other pursuits, including family commitments.

“This is a good way to help keep Kane in the international game so that he continues to play a major role for the Blackcaps – both now and in the years to come. We have very little international cricket in New Zealand through January and outside that period he’s still available for the Blackcaps. NZC has a strong preference to select centrally contracted players for the Blackcaps,” Weenink was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“However, we’re happy to make an exception for our greatest ever batter – especially as he remains so committed to the team. I know it sounds a bit counterintuitive, but I’m very encouraged by this development,” Weenink concluded.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 came to an exciting close on Sunday, with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerging as the champions under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer. The seventeenth edition of this lucrat?ive league saw outstanding performances from players, resulting in numerous records being shattered.

Inspired by the remarkable displays on the field, several sports personalities assembled their dream teams of the tournament, comprising standout players from various franchises who showcased exceptional skills. Joining them, renowned cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle als??o unveiled his selection of the best-playing XI of IPL 2024.

Harsha Bhogle’s IPL 2024 team of the tournament

In a conversation with Cricbuzz, Harsha picked his ideal lineup from the cash-rich league. Surprisingly, his selection did not include any player from the 5-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The dominating opening pair of Virat Kohli and Sunil Narine

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Virat Kohli, who finished as the leading run-scorer of the season, was selected alongside Sunil Narine, the Player of the Tournament, as the opening pair for the team. Both of these standout players recorded centuries during this year’s matches.

Sanju Samson and Dinesh Karthik as wicketkeeper-batters

Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR), was appointed as the wicketkeeper-batter for the team. The 29-year-old amassed 531 runs in 15 innings at an impressive strike rate of 153.47. Additionally, Dinesh Karthik from RCB was also chosen for the ??same role, despite his average performance this seaso??n.

Power hitters in the middle-order

Nicholas Pooran and Andre Russell, known for their clutch performances, were included in the team to dismantle opponents’ bowling attack and propel the team to competitive totals. Additionally, Riyan Parag, who showcased outstanding batting skills for RR, secured a spot in th?e lineup.

The lethal trio of pace attack

Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, and T Natarajan were enlisted to challenge the top batters of rival teams. These players demonstrated exceptional skills by asserting dominance over opposition batters right from the outset of the matche?s.

Varun Chakravarthy shines in the spin department

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction witnessed all ??ten teams bolstering areas they deemed necessary to address. While some teams relied on their core from the previous year, others opted to initiate a reset with significant new signings. As the tournament approaches, each team has devised strategies tailored to their specific needs and objectives.

Opening partnerships crucial in Modern T20

Given the critical importance of powerful batting in the modern T20 game, every team will prioritize solidifying their opening partnership. While most teams may stick with what worked for them last year, there are exceptions such as defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Unfortunately, they will need to adjust their opening combination due to a major setback caused by the injury to attacking batter Devon Conway.

Absence of Devon Conway

Conway’s impact over the last two years alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad for CSK has been truly profound. Their partnership has flourished, amassing an impressive 1208 runs in just 22 innings, with an average of 54.9 and a striking rate of 150.4. Notably, they also achieved the franchise’s best-ever partnership at the top of the order, scoring 182 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2022 edition of the IPL. Their presence at the crease brings a sense of calmness to the dressing room and the fans. However, ahead of the 2024 IPL, this tranquility was disrupted by Conway’s injury, which has ruled him out of the tournament until May.

Harsha Bhogle names a potential opening pair for CSK

Ahead of the upcoming season, speaking on Cricbuzz show, cricket analyst Harsha Bhogle has suggested his choice for Gaikwad’s opening partner in the absence of Conway. Despite their differences in experience and playing style, Bhogle believed there is a suitable replacement in Rachin Ravindra. Expressing his confidence in Ravindra’s abilities, Bhogle highlighted his impressive performance in white-ball cricket and even noted his recent century in Test cricket. With Ravindra flourishing in the conducive environment at CSK, Bhogle advocated for pairing him with Gaikwad as CSK’s opening combination for the IPL 2024 season.

“In the absence of Conway, there is, what I believe, a like-for-like replacement even though they are vastly different in terms of year and experience. I won’t be surprised at all if, in CSK, Rachin Ravindra comes out and tells the IPL, ‘Come look at me,’ because he has done very well in white-ball cricket. He has gone up and got 100 in Test match cricket. He’s playing the best cricket of his life, and he’s playing in a wonderful environment at CSK. So, my opening combination would be Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra,” Bhogle said.

CSK’s IPL 2024 campaign begins

Defending champions CSK will kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on March 22. As they embark on their title defense, CSK will aim to overcome the setback of Conway’s absence and maintain their legacy of success in the tournament.

Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli has once again found himself at the center of controversy, this time due to a candid statement made by renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle.

In his recent interaction, Bhogle expressed his opinion on Kohli’s approach to batting, suggesting that at times, it might be in the team’s best interest for him to get out and make way for big-hitting players. The remarks stirred up a storm on social media and the video of the same spread like wildfire, with Kohli’s supporters expressing their discontent and defending the batting maestro’s record-breaking performances.

The viral video and Harsha Bhogle’s controversial remarks

In the now widely circulated video, Bhogle articulates his perspective on the strategic aspect of dismissals in cricket, using Kohli as an example. Bhogle suggests that in certain situations, it might be in the team’s best interest for a batter, even a prolific one like Kohli, to deliberately get out after spending a certain amount of time on the crease and make way for big-hitters to add quick runs.

Bhogle further highlights how, in Test cricket, Kohli is expected to stay at the crease and not get out. However, when playing for franchises like Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) or in T20Is for India, the dynam??ics might change. According to Bhogle, beyond a certain point, it could be strategically beneficial for the team if a player like Kohli intentionally gets out.

“Virat Kohli is a great example. Virat Kohli is playing Test cricket for India and he isn’t supposed to get out. Now, he goes to play for RCB, for India; beyond a certain point, it might actually been the interest of the side for him to get out. How do you reconcile to the fact that I am one of the greatest who have played the game but actually at this stage, it’s in the team’s interest that I get out because the person who is coming in will probably hit 20 of 6 balls. Virat Kohli is an extreme example,” said Harsha Bhogle.

The massive backlash

Bhogle’s remarks did not sit well with many Kohli fans who took to social media to express their displeasure. Some criticized Bhogle for seemingly targeting Kohli consistently, while others pointed out that Kohli boasts a better strike rate than many big-hitting players in the death overs. The online backlash also included tweets reminding Bhogle of Kohli’s T20 heroics, such as the memorable innings against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2022 at the MCG, where the Delhi-born cricketer played a pivotal role in India’s sensational victory.

Here’s how Twitter reacted

Harsha Bhogle’s clarification

Amid the uproar, Bhogle wasted no time in issuing a strong clarification to address the misunderstanding and provide context to his earlier statements. Bhogle took to social media to explain that his intention was not to undermine Kohli’s abilities but to highlight the evolving dynamics of the game. He even called out the Press Trust of India for releasing a cropped video and not sharing the full conversation. Expressing frustration, he pointed out that the section where he praised Kohli and provided reasoning for his articulation was unjustly not shown.

Harsha Bhogle is one of the finest commentators in cricketing history. He has been part of many iconic matches, and his words have gone down as sweet poetry to the ears of cricket enthusiasts. Bhogle’s fast reflexes and wittiness have also sent a laughter bombshell among the viewers at times.

Popularly known as the ‘Voice of Cricket’, Bhogle’s commentating career started at the age of 19 with All India Radio. The Hyderabad-born ever since has been ruling the hearts of cricket lovers through his exceptional commentating skills. Being a university cricketer himself, Bhogle has a deep understanding of the game and his ability to impart that to others with enthusiasm and perfection is what sets him apart.

One of the best football commentators, Peter Dury, recently expressed his admiration for Bhogle as well. On that note, let’s have a look at some of the best quotes from Harsha as the ‘Voice of Cricket’ turns 62 on July 19, 2023.

Top 10 quotes by Harsha Bhogle:

1) To be a commentator, you must have a life outside cricket, too. If cricket is all?? that you know, then you would not be a great commentator.

2) Cricket, like all sport, offers glory to few and a lifetime of it to?? even fewer. For the investment it d??emands, it offers short careers that end when people in other professions are starting to flourish.

3) Like an author, a cricketer sign?s his name on every innings he bats or bowls in; indeed for every cricket ball that challenges him on the field.

4) Sometimes your greatest s??trength can emerge as a weakness if the context changes.

5) Change doesn’t always mean progress, but the status quo isn’t always the best result either. It is merely the most convenient.

6) A monk’s extraordinary patience can be a hindrance to desperate decision-making.

7??) Cricketers are made to feel that they are very special. That is okay as long as cricketers realise they are only as good as their last innings.

8) Across professions?, consistency i??s a direct product of work ethic.

9) Sometimes, quite out of the blue, sport will throw up a te??nder moment, when? hostility ceases and an opponent is acknowledged.

10) Sports teaches you there is always a second innings in life. If you fail today, there’s a second innings maybe two days later. Maybe there’s another opportunity coming up three or six months later. If you look at mistake as learnings and commit never to make a same mistake again, then you actually get better with every mistake that you make.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 15th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday (April 10). The Lucknow-based team emerged victori??ous in the contest by one wick?et. During the nail-biting thriller a controversial incident took place which soon became a major talking point on the internet and drew the attention of the likes of Harsha Bhogle and Ben Stokes.

Asked to bat first, RCB put up an impressive batting display, with skipper Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell all scoring big runs. While Du Plessis played a brilliant knock of 79 off 46 deliveries, Virat and Maxwell contributed 61 and 59 runs to the team’s total. The power-hitting from the trio helped RCB post a massive total of 212/2 in their allotted 20 overs.

In response, LSG didn’t start well and lost their opener Kyle Mayers for a duck. However, Marcus Stoinis (65) and Nicholas Pooran (62) then played some breathtaking shots to keep the team in the hunt. Ayush Badoni also contributed valuable 30 runs in the run chase. Despite the explosive batting display of Lucknow batters, the game went down to the final over, where LSG chased down the set target with just one wicket in hand on the last ball. Although there was a chance for RCB to win the game on the last delivery of the 20th over, Harshal Patel failed to execute the non-striker’s end run out, and the Bangalore-based team eventually lost the contest.

On the sixth ball of the final over, Harshal attempted to run out non-striker Ravi Bishnoi, who left his crease before the white leather was delivered, but he missed. Soon after the failed effort, he stopped out of the crease and threw the ball back at the stumps. The ball hit the target, and Bishnoi wa??s short of his ground, but unfortunately, Harshal had completed his bowling action, so the run-out did not count as per the law.

After the match, Bhogle, who has advocated the non-striker’s end run out in the past, took to Twitter and pointed out the incident taking a dig at the critics that oppose the law and consider it against the spirit of the game.

“Bishnoi was leaving his crease early. Any silly people out there still saying you shouldn’t run the non-striker out?,” tweeted Bhogle.

England Test Captain and Chennai Super Kings‘ (CSK) member Stokes was quick to respond to Bhogle and wrote: “Thought’s Harsha? Umpires discretion.. 6 penalty runs if obviously trying to gain unfair advantage by leaving the crease early? Would stop batters doing it without all the controversy.”

Bhogle commended the Engl?ish cricketer for his perspective on the matter and expressed interest in having a discussion with him. Additionally, the veteran cricket commentator also wishe?d for Stokes to recover quickly.

“Happy to get your perspective, Ben. I am doing a game in Chennai if you have a few minutes. And hope you are fit and playing again soon,” replied the 61-year-old.
