England are gearing up for a demanding five-match Test tour of India, commencing on January 25 in Hyderabad. The English team has encountered difficulties facing Indian spinners in recent tours, leading to substantial defeats. Significantly, England ????holds the distinction of being the last team to defeat India in a Test series on Indian soil, achieving this feat in 2012.

Graeme Swann’s memorable role in England’s 2012 triumph

In the historic 2012-13 series for the Anthony de Mello Trophy, off-spinner Graeme Swann played a pivotal role, picking 20 wickets alongside Monty Panesar. This partnership led to a surprising 2-1 victory for England, marking a rare achievement in the cricketing history. Prior to this triumph, England had last won a Test series in India in 1984-85, and Swann played? a crucial part in ending the 27-ye??ar drought.

England’s potential game-changer

Swann, currently collaborating with England spinners, has identified the uncapped Tom Hartley as a promising talent similar to Axar Patel. H??e believed? that the young Englishman possesses the potential to make a significant impact in the upcoming Test series.

“When I saw Tom in Sri Lanka last winter, he’d barely played any red-ball cricket, but he’s got control and sometimes in India you don’t have to be the biggest turner of the ball. You have to be an Axar Patel-type bowler, able to run up, be metronomic, put it on the spot, get a little bit of rotation on the ball, and let the pitch do the work. Let’s not beat about the bush, we’re going to play on some absolute square turners out there after what happened last time,” Swann was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

Rehan Ahmed’s threatening wrist-spin

Discussing wrist-spinner Rehan Ahmed, the 44-year-old acknowledged Ahmed’s ability to pose a constant threat to batters, even when not at his best. However, he emphasized the importance of Ahmed building confidence to enhance his performance in the series.

“He’s a young leggie and on his day he will get you five wickets. We have seen how good he can be already. There will be days when it might not come out quite right and he’ll be expensive, but he will always come out smelling of roses because he’s a brilliant character. He’s got a bit of swagger about him and I love that. I want him to start believing in himself more as a bowler. He believes in himself as a batsman but not as much yet as he should do with the ball,” the Northampton-born cricketer concluded.

As India gears up for the highly anticipated ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19, cricket analyst Graeme Swann has identi??fied the pivotal player for In??dia in this crucial encounter.

India’s unprecedented streak

Team India has scripted a sensational narrative in the tournament, securing victory in all ten encounters leading to the final. Their unbeaten streak positions them on the brink of history, as they aim to become only the third team, after West Indies and Australia, to win the World Cup undefeated.

Australia’s pursuit of a record title

On the opposing side, Australia, with a rich cricketing legacy, eyes a record-extending sixth World Cup title. The Aussies, after overcoming early setback?s, have displayed resilience, setting the stage for a compelling battle against the formidable Indian side.

Graeme Swann’s insight: India’s trump card

Swann, in a discussion on CNN News 18, singled out Ravindra Jadeja as the key player for India in the final clash against Australia. Drawing attention to Jadeja’s stellar performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final, the former England spinner emphasized the all-rounder’s ability to elevate his game on the grandest stages.

“I am always going to look for the X-factor player, the rockstar, and that has to be (Ravindra) Jadeja. He has had a fairly quiet backend to this World Cup, mostly because the batting order hasn’t really given him anything to do,” Jadeja said.

“I always look for big-time players, players when the pressure is on in the heat of the battle, times when even the world’s best fail, Jadeja absolutely lives for those occasions. Just look at the IPL last year, wins the whole IPL off the last two balls, a six and a four,” the 44-year-old added.

Graeme Swann’s bold assertion: India’s fearless approach decisive

Swann expressed confidence that if India maintains their fearless ap??proach, the contest will be decidedly in their favour.

“If India approach the game with the same sort of positivity and mindset they did in the semifinal, there is still no contest, India will win. But Australia are a team you can never ever write off, unfortunately, for an Englishman to say that,” the Northampton-born cricketer concluded.

As much as the nation is overabundant with fast-bowling talents, a skilful spinner has always been a rarity fo??r England. The condition makes it incredibly difficult for even the most adept?? spinners to survive.

However, Graeme Swann is an exception that English viewers often flaunt to counter the argument. He ?is? among the rare breeds of spinners who boasts of a better bowling average (28.94) in England than in away conditions.

Meanwhile, Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s lethality in Indian subcontinent needs no introduction, but he always had a horrible time playing in SENA countries. He struggles a lot for every wicket, and his effectiveness declines significantly while playing away from Asia.

However, in a recent interview, Swann has stated that Ashwin is an underrated bowl?er who is equally effective in overseas condition.

“In England or Australia, the whole game is different. In India, there is less bounce and more spin. So there is a bigger margin of error for him. He doesn’t necessarily need a bigger margin of error, but Indian captains can control the pace of the Test match in India, making him extremely effective. He has struggled in England because the conditions are more batting-friendly while facing spin,” Swann said to the Times of India.

The former English bowler further remarked that Ashwin’s decision to bowl leg-spin for a brief period was something he never liked.

“When he came to England in 2018, he bowled beautifully in the first Test. But he had an injury before the Southampton Test and wasn’t able to finish his action.”

“To be honest, he is a much better bowler than people give him credit for in English conditions. He doesn’t need to do a lot different. I just didn’t like it when he started bowling leg-spinners for a brief period,” added Swann.

Former England off-spinner Graeme Swann was one of the finest spinners modern-day cricket has ever seen. Swann’s control over the delivery, the way he used to give flight, and his habit of continually dropping the ball at the right spot made him one of the most lethal spinners of the game.

The Northampton-born featured in 60 Tests for England in which he grabbed 255 wickets. Seventeen ??times Swann took a five-wicket haul, whereas fourteen times he earned a 4-wicket haul?.

Recently, he participated in a SkySports podcast hosted by Rob Key which also featured England’s current spin bowler, Dom Bess, where they discussed off-spin bowling.

During the chat, Swann talked about the pressure thing in Test cricket and said it is easy to bowl at an international level rather than in a county game, mainly if the?? batsman is the same.

“Pressure, the mental side of Test cricket actually makes it I think easier to bowl in Tests rather than in county cricket and especially against the same batsman you might bowl at in a county game.”

Swann gave the example of India legend Rahul Dravid and said he ma??de him feel like an 11-year-old off-spinner ?when he played against him in county cricket. Swann went on to add that he never saw a better player than Dravid.

“Rahul Dravid was a big one for me; I bowled against him in Kent, and he was unbelievable. I’ve never seen a better player in my life. He would never get out in a county game, and that’s Rahul Dravid, one of the best in the world, and he made me feel like an 11-year-old spinner.”

Rahul Dravid

It was in the y??ear 2008 when Swann debuted in the red-ball format against India, and in the very first over of his career, Swann d?ismissed Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid.

Getting Dravid was indeed a special feeling as Swann had played against ‘The Wall’ in county cricket. The offie even admitted that the delivery he bowled in that Test (which got Dravid) was a great ball, but it wouldn’t get Dravid out.

“I got him out, admittedly it was a great ball, but it would not have got Rahul Dravid out usually.”

The former English veteran also heaped praises on legendary South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis. He said that when you become an established ??bowler, most of t?he batsmen play you as a reputed bowler rather than focusing on the ball, but Kallis was not like that at all.

“Ninety per cent of batsmen, especially as you get more wickets, will start playing you as the bowler rather than the ball. But, there was one guy who never fell for it was Jacques Kallis.”

“He (Kallis) would just stand there, deadpan, play every ball on its merits, no matter how much you puffed out your chest. He looked like he was staring 50 yards over your head. I could never rattle him,” Swann concluded.

betvisa888Graeme Swann – Cricket Times - betvisa888 casino //betvisa68.com/2020/04/graeme-swann-spills-beans-on-his-rift-with-kevin-pietersen/ Sat, 11 Apr 2020 16:30:34 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=40103

Former England off-spinner, Graeme Swann, in a recent interaction, talke??d about his complicated relationship with former teammate Kevin Pietersen.

The two English greats took England to the Test summit after famous away wins in the 2011 Ashes series and 2012 tour? to India.

“We are a team that got to number one in the world, and in a team, there are always going to be individuals. Ninety-nine per cent of that side were all in it for the team,” Swann stated in a podcast called ‘Pink’.

Swann revealed about the two being direct about disliking each other. But as a pro??fessional, the two wanted each other in the English team.

“We were actually very similar in that way, and we actually got on me and KP professionally better than most people because we were very honest with but openly disliked each other. But wanted each other in the team,” continued Swann.

“I wanted KP in the team because he was scoring a lot of runs and playing really well, and simply he was one of the best batsmen in the world.”

During the 2012 tour, KP smashed a sparkling double-hundred in a turning pitch at Mumbai, which is still regarded as ?the most significant knock by a visiting batsman in India.

Also, the star-studded England lineup did what no other team could, with the 2-1 series win over India. England breached India’s fortress, breaking their undefeated streak at home since 2004.

However, England’s dominance in world cricket was cut short with their 5-0 humiliation down under during the 2013 Ashes series.

Pietersen was snubbed shortly after the infamous ‘text message scandal’ with the South African players during the Headingley Test in 2012. KP criticized former coach Andy Flower and captain Andrew Strauss in front of his friends in the South African team.

“There were times when it was all exterior things like the texting against Andrew Strauss. When you get to the point when you’re having these team meetings and discussing what you’re going to do about these text messages but the player is saying ‘I didn’t send them’. And then subsequently he says he did but only because they’re my mates, that certainly didn’t help things,” concluded Swann.

Pietersen was not considered for the England squ?ad since, with Andrew Strauss taking up the directorship role in the England Cricket Board (ECB).

betvisa cricketGraeme Swann – Cricket Times - betvisa888 casino //betvisa68.com/2020/02/no-team-in-the-world-want-ravindra-jadeja-in-indian-side-graeme-swann/ Sat, 01 Feb 2020 06:56:50 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=36897

Former England off-spinner, Graeme Swann, has stated that no team in the world would wa?nt bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the Indian side in t??he upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.

Since his international comeback, the Saurashtra cricketer has been unstoppable in all the three fronts o??f the games. Jadeja prov?ed to be quintessential for the Indian side in the absence of marquee all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who is recuperating from his back injury.

With the loss in the Champions Trophy final in 2017 in England, the off-spinning duo of Ravi Ashwin and Jadeja went out of favor in the white-ball cricket, paving the way for the wrist-spinning duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendr?a Chahal.

Fans witnessed a magnificent turnaround for Ravindra Jadeja since the Asia Cup held in 2018. Since then, the southpaw has been a key featu??re for the Indian team in all three formats of the?? game.

“All the other teams in the world do not want Jadeja to be playing in that India team. He’s very very important player. From an English point of view, we’d be very happy (if he doesn’t play),” said Graeme Swann in a Star Sports show.

Jadeja, in the ongoing T20Is aga??inst the Kiwis, constantly chipped in with wickets at? an economical rate. As a matter of fact, since 2019, the left-arm orthodox bowler holds the most economical figures in T20Is, after Mujeeb-ur-Rahman and Imad Wasim.

Having done ??well against the Black Caps at their grounds, Swann remains confident that the Rajkot all-rounder would do well, Downunder, in the all-important multilateral tournament in October.

“He’s doing well in New Zealand conditions on smaller grounds; in Australia, it’ll be the exact opposite; those are big grounds. If you as a spinner can bowl well on smaller grounds, then you can do better on the big one,” added the former English offie.

Former Sri Lankan skipper and one of the best wicket-keeper batsman of all times, Kumar Sangakkara, ??has recently revealed the name of the most difficult bowler he faced in his I??nternational career.

Speaking on the Howie Games podcast, Sangakkara revealed Pakistan great Wasim Akram as the ??most diffi??cult bowler he encountered during his 594-game international career.

“I think I’ve faced Wasim Akram only a few times (but he was) immensely difficult,?Sangakkara said.

“It’s strange you know, when you pick your bowlers or the people think, if you take Akram on the Test wicket tally, he’s nowhere near the top. “He’s 12th, but you ask any batsman around the world and his name always comes up. “He was an absolute genius.”

Sanga also rated Australia’s  Shane Warne, India’s Zaheer Khan and England’s Graeme Swann among the toughest bowlers he had faced.

“I’ve never faced Murali, luckily, in international cricket, or Chaminda Vaas. “Shane Warne, incredibly difficult. “I’ve had problems with Zaheer Khan. Graeme Swann. These bowlers have been very, very difficult,” Sanga added.
