In the first ODI of the three-match series, West Indies stormed to an eight-wicket victory over England under the DLS method at the Sir Viv?ian Richards Stadium, Antigua.

West Indies restricts England for 209

Put in to bat first, England faced steady early losses and were bowled out for 209 in 45.1 overs. West Indies bowlers kept the pressure on from the outset, with Gudakesh Motie leading the charge. Motie’s left-arm spin dismantled England’s batting lineup, as he claimed a remarkable 4 wickets for 41 runs in his 10 overs. His breakthroughs were complemented by impressive pace bowling from Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph, each grabbing two wickets. Seales was particularly economical, conceding only 22 runs in his 8 overs, whil??e Joseph’s aggressive spell yielded 2 wickets for 46 runs. Matthew Forde, bowling with con??sistent accuracy, claimed two scalps for 48 runs.

Despite some promising starts, England’s batsmen struggled to convert into big scores. Philip Salt (18), Will Jacks (19) and Jordan Cox (17) all looked in control but failed to capitalize. England’s innings was propped up by Liam Livingstone, who top-scored with 48 off 49 balls, including three fours and two sixes, providing a much-needed boost in the middle order. Sam Curran added 37 off 56 balls, helping push the total above 200. The Three Lions lost wickets at regular intervals, leaving West Indies a manageable target.

Evin Lewis and Brandon King gave West Indies a solid start

The West Indies innings started on a positive note, with opener Brandon King providing a stable start, scoring 30 off 56 deliveries. However, it was Evin Lewis who stole the show, launching a blistering assault on the England bowlers. Lewis smashed an aggressive 94 off just 69 balls, including five fours and an astonishing eight sixes. His knock kept the scoreboard ticking at a rapid pace and brought West Indies within sight of victory. Keacy Carty supported Lewis with an unbeaten 19 off 20 balls, and Shai Hope added an unbeaten 6 as West Indies reached 157/2 in 25.5 overs before the rain arrived.

England’s bowling attack, led by Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid, struggled to make breakthroughs. Rashid managed a solitary wicket, conceding 50 runs in his 7 overs, while Liam Livingstone too?k one wicket for 32 runs.? England’s bowlers were unable to stem the flow of runs as West Indies cruised towards victory.

Player of the Match

Gudakesh Motie was awarded Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance, which set the stage for West Indies’ win. The second ODI is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, at the same venue, where England will look to bounce back and level the series.

In the third and final ODI of the West Indies tour of Sri Lanka 2024, West Indies secured an impressive eight-wicket victory over Sri L?anka via the DLS method at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. With this win, West Indies prevented a clean sweep in the three-match series, which Sri Lanka won 2-1.

Explosive batting by Sri Lanka batters

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, West Indies faced an ex??plosive batting display from Sri Lanka. Openers Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando set a solid foundation with a 70-run stand. Nissanka was the top scorer, contributing a well-crafted 56 off 62 balls, including eight fours and a six, while Fernando chipped in with 34 runs off 50 balls. Following the openers, Kusal Mendis was instrumental, smashing an aggressive 56 off just 22 deliveries, laced with nine fours and a six. However, a slight collapse saw Sri Lanka finish at 156/3 in 23 overs.

The West Indies bowlers struggled to contain Sri Lanka’s batting lineup, with Matthew Forde and Gudakesh Motie keeping the economy under control but unable to pick up wickets. Roston Chase and Sherfane Rutherford managed a wicket each, but it was not enough to prevent Sri Lanka from posting a competitive total in the rain-hit encounter.

Evin Lewis was named Player of the Match for his scintillating century that led West Indies to victory. Despite this win, Sri Lanka clinched the series 2-1, winning the ??first O??DI by five wickets via the DLS method and the second ODI by the same margin.

West Indies opener Evin Lewis smashed his fourth One-Day International (ODI) hundred to guide his team to a five-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second ODI at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Friday. The second match win also helped Windies clinch ??the three-ma?tch series 2-0 with one ODI to play.

Chasing 274 to win, the hosts got off to a flying start as Lewis shared in a dominating 192-run opening stand with the centurion in the previous fixture Shai Hope.

In the 37th over, Lewis reached his fourth century in the 50-over format. He made 103 off 121 balls with the help of 8 fours and 4 sixes before Lakshan Sandakan removed him. Soon after Lewis’ dismissal, Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera packed Hope’s inning for 84.

The eleventh game of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020 saw two bottom-placed teams in the table, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKP) and Barbados Tridents (BT), clash against each other at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad.

SKP captain Rayad Emrit won the toss and opted to field first. Coming out to bat, Tridents’ openers Johnson Charles (24) and Shai Hope (29) set the tone early with their 50 runs partnership. However, the Tridents found themselves in a similar situa??tion of losing wickets at regular intervals.

Five out of the top-six batsmen got starts but could not capitalize by scoring a 50+ score. As a result, the Tridents could only put up a par s?core of 151 for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs.

Moreover, the Tridents could only post some sort of a challenging score, thanks to contributions from Corey Anderson (31) and Ashley Nurse (25).

During the first innings of the game, all five Patriots bowlers used, picked up at least a wicket each, with Jon-Russ Jaggesar (2/19) being the stand-out bowler.

After the mid-innings break, the? Patriots were determined to open their account in the points table, with a target of 152 in sight.

The innings of the match came from Patriots?opener Evin Lewis who scored a brilliant 89 of 60 deliveries at a strike rate of 148.3. The powerful southpaw‘s entertaining knock consisted of two boundaries and nine sixes.

Ramdin (20) gave ample support to Lewis at the other end. The right-han?d-left-hand combination added 78 runs for the third wicket.

The Tridents bowling attack tried their level best to make the Patriots sweat for their runs, with 31 needed off the final three overs. Kyle Mayers‘ spell (2/14) added excitement to the match as he dislodged the two set batsmen.

In the end, Ben Dunk (22* off 11) kept his composure with 13 needed off the final over. The Aussie swashbuckler smacked a cou?ple out of the park in the ultimate over of the game to seal a win for Patriots.

Lewis was adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’ for helping Patriots win by six wickets and open their account in the points table with the first win of the tournament. They meet St Lucia Zouks next on Thursday, August 27.

The West Indies announced their 15-member One-Day International (ODI) squad for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka? on Monday. The board left out power-hitter Shimron Hetmyer and opener Evin Lewis on fitness grounds.

Left-han??ded-batsman Darren Bravo has been recalled into the squad along with Rovman Powell and Fabian Allen.

“Evin Lewis and Shimron Hetmyer missed out due to the fact that they came up short in the fitness test. They will be missed; Lewis was the team’s best batsman in the recent Colonial Medical Insurance ODI Series against Ireland where he batted with great composure and proved the bedrock for the team’s series win. Hetmyer appeared to be getting his act together and was an integral part of the team’s batting group,” Roger Harper, CWI’s Lead Selector, said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Harper said that they are looking forward to the Sri Lanka series as their side seems quite promising. They had a good tim?e in India and grabbed lots o??f learning experiences from there, which will eventually help the team.

“Sri Lanka are a very good team in their own conditions. I do not expect it to be easy but our team has shown that it is very capable. These are the series we will have to win in order to move up the rankings,” added Harper.

About the inclusion of Bravo and Powell, Harper said that their recent performa??nces in the domestic tournaments is the reason the duo has been picked for?? Sri Lanka ODIs.

“Darren Bravo and Rovman Powell owe their recall to their outstanding performance in the recent Colonial Medical Super50 tournament. Bravo brings good form, a renewed appetite for runs, and lots of experience, which will benefit the team tremendously. Powell, who is back from injury, will add batting firepower to the lineup, increase the team’s bowling options and strengthen the fielding unit,” Harper added further.

The opening game of the three-match series will begin from Febru?ar?y 22 at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. The second contest will take place on February 26 in Hambantota, followed by the final match on March 01 in Pallekele.
