West Indies opener Evin Lewis smashed his fourth One-Day International (ODI) hundred to guide his team to a five-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second ODI at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Friday. The second match win also helped Windies clinch ??the three-ma?tch series 2-0 with one ODI to play.

Chasing 274 to win, the hosts got off to a flying start as Lewis shared in a dominating 192-run opening stand with the centurion in the previous fixture Shai Hope.

In the 37th over, Lewis reached his fourth century in the 50-over format. He made 103 off 121 balls with the help of 8 fours and 4 sixes before Lakshan Sandakan removed him. Soon after Lewis’ dismissal, Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera packed Hope’s inning for 84.

The Caribbeans lost a few more wickets in quick succession, but the damage was already done. Nicholas Pooran stayed unbeaten on 35 to take his team over the finish line in the final over with fiv??e wickets in hand.

Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first, but the decision went horribly wrong after they collapsed to 50/3 in the ninth over. However, Danushka Gunthilaka came to the rescue and scored a dazzling 96 to take his side up?? to a competitive score.

Gunathilaka, who was cont??roversially given out for obstructing the fi??eld in the series opener, slammed 10 fours and three maximums i??n his crucial? knock.

The eleventh game of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020 saw two bottom-placed teams in the table, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKP) and Barbados Tridents (BT), clash against each other at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad.

SKP captain Rayad Emrit won the toss and opted to field first. Coming out to bat, Tridents’ openers Johnson Charles (24) and Shai Hope (29) set the tone early with their 50 runs partnership. However, the Tridents found themselves in a similar situa??tion of losing wickets at regular intervals.

Five out of the top-six batsmen got starts but could not capitalize by scoring a 50+ score. As a result, the Tridents could only put up a par s?core of 151 for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs.

Moreover, the Tridents could only post some sort of a challenging score, thanks to contributions from Corey Anderson (31) and Ashley Nurse (25).

During the first innings of the game, all five Patriots bowlers used, picked up at least a wicket each, with Jon-Russ Jaggesar (2/19) being the stand-out bowler.

After the mid-innings break, the? Patriots were determined to open their account in the points table, with a target of 152 in sight.

The innings of the match came from Patriots�?opener Evin Lewis who scored a brilliant 89 of 60 deliveries at a strike rate of 148.3. The powerful southpaw‘s entertaining knock consisted of two boundaries and nine sixes.

Ramdin (20) gave ample support to Lewis at the other end. The right-han?d-left-hand combination added 78 runs for the third wicket.

The Tridents bowling attack tried their level best to make the Patriots sweat for their runs, with 31 needed off the final three overs. Kyle Mayers‘ spell (2/14) added excitement to the match as he dislodged the two set batsmen.

In the end, Ben Dunk (22* off 11) kept his composure with 13 needed off the final over. The Aussie swashbuckler smacked a cou?ple out of the park in the ultimate over of the game to seal a win for Patriots.

Lewis was adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’ for helping Patriots win by six wickets and open their account in the points table with the first win of the tournament. They meet St Lucia Zouks next on Thursday, August 27.

The West Indies announced their 15-member One-Day International (ODI) squad for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka? on Monday. The board left out power-hitter Shimron Hetmyer and opener Evin Lewis on fitness grounds.

Left-han??ded-batsman Darren Bravo has been recalled into the squad along with Rovman Powell and Fabian Allen.

“Evin Lewis and Shimron Hetmyer missed out due to the fact that they came up short in the fitness test. They will be missed; Lewis was the team’s best batsman in the recent Colonial Medical Insurance ODI Series against Ireland where he batted with great composure and proved the bedrock for the team’s series win. Hetmyer appeared to be getting his act together and was an integral part of the team’s batting group,” Roger Harper, CWI’s Lead Selector, said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Harper said that they are looking forward to the Sri Lanka series as their side seems quite promising. They had a good tim?e in India and grabbed lots o??f learning experiences from there, which will eventually help the team.

“Sri Lanka are a very good team in their own conditions. I do not expect it to be easy but our team has shown that it is very capable. These are the series we will have to win in order to move up the rankings,” added Harper.

About the inclusion of Bravo and Powell, Harper said that their recent performa??nces in the domestic tournaments is the reason the duo has been picked for?? Sri Lanka ODIs.

“Darren Bravo and Rovman Powell owe their recall to their outstanding performance in the recent Colonial Medical Super50 tournament. Bravo brings good form, a renewed appetite for runs, and lots of experience, which will benefit the team tremendously. Powell, who is back from injury, will add batting firepower to the lineup, increase the team’s bowling options and strengthen the fielding unit,” Harper added further.

The opening game of the three-match series will begin from Febru?ar?y 22 at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. The second contest will take place on February 26 in Hambantota, followed by the final match on March 01 in Pallekele.
