Falcons’ solid batting effort

Earlier in the match, the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons had put up a respectable total of 168. Fakhar Zaman and Kofi James formed a solid partnership, scoring 74 runs together. Zaman’s 40 off 33 balls and James’ 37 provided a strong foundation for the Falcons.

Guyana Amazon Warriors put on a dominant display to secure a convincing victory over the Jamaica Tallawahs in Qualifier 2 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023. Dwaine Pretorius was the star performer for the ??Guyana-based team in their victory.

Asked to bat first, the Guyana Amazon Warriors started their innings with a strong intent to post a challenging total. Azam Khan was the star of their innings, scoring a blazing 54 runs off just 27 balls, including five fours and four sixes. Shai Hope (40) and Shimron Hetmyer (31) also made valuable contributions to help their team reach a compet?itive score of 182/6 in their allotted 20 over?s as the Jamaica Tallawahs bowler struggled to contain the Warriors’ batters.

Pretorius was pumped up after the dismissal and was seen celebrating the wicket in an animated fashion.

South Africa all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect on Monday (January 09). The 33-year-old made his international debut in 2016 and has represe?nted South Africa across all three formats, including 30 T20 Internationals (T20Is), 27 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T?ests.

The veteran all-rounder has played two World Cups for the Proteas. He holds the record for the best figures by a South African bowler in T20Is with 5/17 against Pakistan in 2021. ?? Pretorius als??o picked up nine wickets in the T20 World cup last year.

The right-hander has 261 runs to his name in the shortest format at a strike rate of 164.15, and his performance for the rainbow nation has earned him a lot of admiration across the globe. He has played in various tournaments, including Indian Premier League (IPL), The Hundred, Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and will be soon seen representing Durban Super Giants in the inaugural SA20.

In his retirement statement, Pretorius expressed his gratitude towards former South African skipper Faf Du Plessis and thanked him for his support.

“A few days ago, I made one of the toughest decisions of my cricketing career. I have decided to retire from all forms of international cricket.Growing up, my only goal in life was to play for the Proteas. I didn’t know how it was going to happen, but God gave me talent and a serious will to succeed. The rest was in his hands,” Pretorius said in a statement released by CSA.

“A special mention goes to Faf Du Plessis, who brought me back after being let go from the international side the first time and who backed me and helped me become a better player; thank you,” he added.

Cricket South Africa (CSA), on Wednesday, announced the replacement of Dwaine Pretorius for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022, scheduled to start on October 16 in Australia. Notably, Pretorius?? was ruled out of the global?? showpiece event after he had fractured his left thumb in the third T20I against India.

Left-arm pacer Marco Jansen has now been called up to replace injured Pretorius in South Africa’s 15-member squad for T20 World Cup. In place of Jansen, who was initially part of the travelling reserves, fast bowler Lizaad Williams has been included. Jansen had recently replaced Pretorius for the ODI series against India wher?e they lost to hosts 2-1.

Earlier this year in June, Jansen made his T20I debut for the Proteas tour of India. He took the wicket of Shreyas Iyer then and conceded 38 runs off his four ov??ers. That was the only T20I the left-armer has played so far. He has also appeared in seven Tests and three ODIs for South Africa.

There is no denial that South Africa will miss Pretorius but with Jansen’s inclusion, their pace attack gets more lethal having already a star studded fast bowling unit with the likes of Wayne Parnell, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi.

The rainbow nation will start thei??r campaign on October 24 against ??one of the qualifying sides from the first round.
