In a recent highlight of exemplary sportsmanship and fair play during Match 13 of ILT20 2024 between Desert Vipers and Sharjah Warriors, cricket fans witnessed a remarkable display of camaraderie between players. The incident involved Colin Munro of Vipers, who, despite successfully running out Martin Guptill, chose to prioritize the spirit of the game over a comp?etiti??ve advantage.

In a true testament to the gentleman’s ethos, Munro allowed Guptill to continue his innings, a decision that garnered widespread admiration. This act showcased Munro’s sportsmanship and reinforced the essence of cricket as a gentleman’s game.

Colin Munro shows big heart as Martin Guptill escapes run-out

The pivotal moment unfolded on the very first delivery of the 12th over when batter Joe Denly skillfully struck a flighted delivery from Shadab Khan down the ground. The unfortunate turn of events saw the ball making contact with Denly’s teammate Guptill, stationed at the non-striker’s end. Despite Guptill’s attempts to avoid the ball, it struck his right hand, causing a momentary setback.

In an effort to evade the trajectory of the ball, Guptill inadvertently ventured out of ??his crease, only for the ball to ricochet off ?his right glove and directly into the hands of Shadab. The spinner seized the opportunity, swiftly dislodging the bails and finding the 37-year-old short of his crease.

However, displaying a commendable act of sportsmanship, Vipers’ skipper Munro intervened, opting to withdraw the appeal and grant the right-handed batter a second chance, exemplifying the true spirit of fair play on the cricket field.

The 19th match of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-23, Sydney Thunder defeated Brisbane Heat in a nail-biting thriller at Carrara Oval in Queensland o??n Thursday.

Chasing the massive target of 183, the Heat batters looked completely out of touch and kept getting dismissed at regular intervals. However, opener Colin Munro had some other plans as he pl??ayed one of ?the finest BBL knocks to keep Heat in the game.

Munro took the game to the wire and kept his end alive until the final over when he was approaching a triple-figure mark. But unfortunately, the left-handed batter, in an attempt to clear the mid-wicket off Nathan McAndrew, failed to time the ball and Daniel Sams took a sensational outfield catch to dismiss Munro. The Black Caps batter ended up scoring 98 from just 53 balls with the help of nine fours and three sixes. Eventually, Thunder won the?? contest by 11 runs.

Earlier, Heat won the toss and asked the Thunder to bat first. Some vital contributions from batters inspired Thunder to reach a competitive total. New Zealand star Colin Munro smashed his maiden Big Bash League (BBL) century in the ninth match of the ongoing BBL 2021-22 between Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers on Saturday.

Munro’s record-breaking knock steered Scorchers to a massive 49-run win against Strikers at Sydney Showground Stadium. The Black Caps power-striker hit the highest ever score by a Scorcher. He made an unbeaten 114 off 73 balls, beating the previous highest 112 set by Craig Simmons more than seven years ago.

Munro smashed eight fours and 6 humungous sixes during his stellar knock that propelled Scorchers to post a massive 195/1 on t?he board in their allotted 20 overs after they opted to bat first.

Apart from Munro, wicketkeeper-batter Cameron Bancroft chipped in with valuable 45 off 37 deliveries. Bancroft f?ormed a stunning 132-runs opening partnership with Munro before getting run-out in the 16th over.

In response, Strikers got bundled out for 146, losing the contest by 49 runs. Opener Matthew Short, with 63 off 47 balls, was their top scorer. For the Scorchers, Jason Behrendorff and Andrew Tye were the pick of the bowlers. While Behrendorff took a three-wicket haul while conceding 22 runs in 2.5 overs, Ty?e also bagged three scalps for 21 in three overs.

“One of my best knocks”: Munro on his remarkable ton

On his splendid knock, Munro shared some thoughts after the match, stating it was a bit uneasy for him? during the start but was satisfying to finish the innings. The hard-hi?tting left-hander reckoned it was one of his best knocks.

“It’s one of those innings where I don’t think I’ve ever faced a white ball that moved that much so it was tough at the start, I probably didn’t hit a ball in the middle of my bat until the sixth or seventh over,” Munro, who was named ‘Player of the Match’, told Fox Cricket.

“It was just a sigh of relief (reaching triple figures), sometimes I can throw it away, and I told ‘V’ (coach Adam Voges) at the 10-over mark ‘, I promise you I’m trying to kick them over, mate. I’m trying to hit one up with chimney’. It’s funny how things turn, one or two good shots, and you’re away. I reckon it’s probably one of my best, to be honest. When you’ve got to fight like that and really scratch around and bat the full 20 overs, it’s really pleasing,” added Munro.

Perth Scorchers registered their second win in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2020-21 by crushing Me?lbourne Renegades by a ma??????????????????????????ssive margin of 96 runs at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

Scorchers posted 185/3 in their allotted 20 overs and bundled out Renegades for just 89 to claim the sixth biggest win in BBL h??istory.

Josh Inglis and Colin Munro shined with the willow for Scorchers. While Inglis scored unbeaten 72 o?ff 41 balls, Munro smashed 5??2 from 31 deliveries.

Munro looked aggressive as he slammed five sixes and a four in his 52 run knock. He was also seen risking out his wicket while try?ing to play a switch-hit shot.

It all happened in the 15th over bowled by Peter Hatzoglou when Munro sat himself up for the switch-hit, but Hatzoglou saw it coming and fired a short ball outside off stump. The ball did n??ot give Munro enough room to pla?y the fancy shot, and he ended up guiding the ball towards the short fine leg fielder for just a single.

Here is the video:

Munro is not a fan of bash boost rule

Munro isn’t an admirer of BBL’s new bash boost rule as his team was robbed of maximum points against Renegades. Scorchers only claimed three of the four points despite the huge win.

“We played in a win which is all that matters, but it would’ve been nice to grab that other point. I’m not a huge fan of that point to be honest because once a team is out of it, it’s not a great viewing spectacle for guys at home or even the fans to see guys going out there and trying to get that one point,” the Kiwi star saidย after the match.

Munro stated that it’s his personal opinion, and if his team were on the losing side in the match, he might have welcomed the extra point.

“But that’s my opinion; I think if we were on the other side today and we got the point I would’ve probably been sitting here saying ‘yeah I’m happy with the way things go and we got the one point extra’. It would be nice to see those games so a little bit deeper and a little bit further and for teams to give themselves every opportunity to win the game,” added Munro.
